Last Saturday afternoon a friend and I stopped by the LCBO's historic, flagship location as we were in the area. The store was originally Toronto's rail station hub, which accounts for its tremendous size/layout. This vast location offers very small samplings of a wide variety of finer quality drinks for 'token' prices and comp. beer/cider samples with small finger food. My friend and I partook in both and we enjoyed comparing the different flavours and styles we discovered. I'd visited this location a couple of times before but quite a few years ago, and my overall impression hasn't diminished - if anything, I appreciate it more now perhaps due to my abstinence from visiting. Several Staff Members present greeted us and provided helpful information and answers to questions, and were quite friendly and polite while doing so. Obviously they have a very wide variety and quantity of beverages available including those in their fairly massive beer fridge, and as beer is my main drink of choice I consider their fridge quite impressive. Given everything I've stated above, it practically goes without saying that I recommend a visit if you're fairly nearby. read more

You'll be Dazzled by this LCBO. It felt like walking into an old Fairmont hotel. The grandeur of the historic building they occupy, and the beautiful layout and lighting inside make it feel like everything should be more expensive here. Obviously, the prices are the same as any other LCBO, and that is what makes this whole experience so much more remarkable. read more

My favourite LCBO in the city. Situated in an old train station, they have kept many of the architectural features and have the different aisles labeled as Tracks. Absolutely massive Whiskey selection as well as wine and beer. If they don't have it , they probably don't have it in Ontario. They also have a fun little tasting bar where you can get some interesting and rare whiskeys. Don't know what the hours are for the tasting bar post-Covid, but I started a few fun nights on the town pre 2020 with some fun sips with the Lads. Recommended. read more

This Summerhill location is my favourite LCBO store and just happens to be one Toronto's largest and best stocked liquor stores. What I love is the sites architecture and history. Between 1915 and 1930 it was known as the North Toronto Railway Station. It was the Union Station of Toronto and the reason it closed in 1930 was because Union Station opened in 1929. When you enter through the main entrance, you'll find yourself in the Great Hall. It was the original waiting room for the train station and has 44 foot high ceilings and original light fixtures that were built to replicate train wheels. Leave yourself time to visit the entire store. As you meander from section to section, you'll find a piece of history in each room. Look closely in the Great Hall and you'll find the original ticket wickets among the wine. What I enjoy best is the wine, bourbon and beer selection at this location. I will always find something new to try. Don't feel shy about speaking to the staff as they always have great recommendations! read more

This has to be one of the most visually stunning LCBO's there is! My family owned a few stores in the area and this was the LCBO location my parents always shopped at for special occasions when i was growing up. Naturally it was where i needed to find the "hard to find" Vintage i was looking for. This iconic building is situated in the former North Toronto subway station at the North/West Corner of Yonge Street a 5 minute walk from Summherhill Station. Hints of the former station are seen throughout the sections and the architecture as you browse through the largest liquor store in Canada. Just after the holidays i was looking for a limited release (Karas Red) Vintage. Every store that had the wine sold out in a matter of hours/day. About a month after that i decided to look up the wine at this location and sure enough, they had 1 case available! I called the store, talked to their customer service team and they held 10 bottles for me. Pick up was to be within 7 days - which was no problem for me! Normally you can request items to be shipped to a store near you, but they don't offer that during the busy holiday months. When i arrived at the store, staff was very helpful in helping me locate the bottles saved for me. They were very courteous, friendly and offered some great suggestions for other wines while i waited and had a few questions. I didn't mind the wait because it also gave me the chance to walk through the building and admire the beautiful architecture that housed thousands of wines & spirits. I was on my way to a party with Sully, Fat Michael, and the Old Man... Should've been perfect, right? Everyone knows that I have a slur and my face drops a bit... That's how God made me, but I do get some teasing and most of it is harmless. I have to stop into this ritzy LCBO to buy refreshments... The manager refused service to me after claiming I was already intoxicated... I get back to my car and this woman has called the police to have one of their dark grey ghost cars pull me over... I cooperate and blow 0.000 for the Officer. "Just doing my job" doesn't involve calling the police on people with disabilities because you think our capabilities must mean they're drunk! The LCBO is the largest or 2nd largest alcohol buyer globally, yet their customers pay the highest prices in the world because of all the waste and bureaucracy of their management and unions... Alcoholics purchase 80% of the total sales and basically pay for the pensions and bonuses of these people... If you're a fan of Corporate Social Responsibility, you should support the LCBO directing more of their profits to save the lives of the alcoholics that their business model exploits! read more

This LCBO store at Summerhill is the Mother Ship. It is perhaps the largest and nicest liquor store I've ever been to, anywhere. The building, an old train station, has lots of character that has been preserved and integrated into the current design. It's gorgeous and all the displays are beautiful. There are two entrances, north and south. Parking is limited but there is easy and close access to the subway system. One of my favourite features, although not exclusive to this location is the tasting rooms. For a very nominal fee, sometimes free (sponsored), you can taste wines and/or spirits before committing to buy a bottle. I recently sampled an $87 bottle of El Dorado rum for only $1.50. It's cheaper than going to a bar! LOL! read more

This is certainly one of the best liquor stores I have been into. We came out of our way to this store because of the unique building it is in, an unused train station. They have used every aspect of the architecture to its best advantage. It is spacious, well-lit and has kept details from its previous life, like train signs and platform directions and the clock tower is now a tasting room. I wanted some local product to try and the staff went out of their way to find someone who knew about Canadian Whisky, which that person did, to find a product I loved. I am impressed by the product selection and, the polite cashier that served me (I think that she was black but very polite and, called me "Sir"). I always enjoy buying a product or two however one employee has not been as nice for more than a year. Other than that it was a pleasant experience and, I usually shop there for my selection or the store at Queens Quay. I must say that the new store at Sugar Warf is beautiful and, the management at both is great as it is at all stores but I have no idea why this employee was rude to me as usually for the most part all lcbo employees are polite and, I was surprised. Keep up the great work!!. If the employees were under pressure during Covid-19 that is totally understandable as I am sure they were as many were working between 5 and 6 days per week with one day off as is the St. Lawrence Market which I commented to one person-it is not healthy to have one day of rest-to be healthy a person needs 2 days to rest in order to function properly and, to be a productive worker so hats off to the lcbo and, the St. Lawrence Market. read more

Today was my first time at this Summerhill location. Pulling in today the parking lot around back may have been a tight squeeze but what awaited me inside was something truly spectacular. Aside from the courteous staff and the seemingly endless rows of alcohol (ya ya, I know standard LCBO stuff) the vintages section here and general architectural layout of this building were mind blowing. What an experience today! I was invited to this LCBO for an exclusive event hosted by Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch where a bottle of rare Glenfiddich Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve 55 Year Old Scotch was unveiled. Unbelievable! The bottle is one of 15 in existence and the 7th of 11 to be auctioned off with all proceeds of this bottles sale going to benefit the Wounded Warriors (a NPO which helps wounded and injured members of the Canadian Forces). This auction takes place at the new Trump Hotel in Toronto on October 19th, 2012 where this bottle is expected to go for over $50,000 (the previous bottle auctioned in the USA sold for $96,000 USD). Ya that's roughly what I make in a weekend...Not! A Brinks Truck pulled to the front and two armed guards unloaded the bottle from it's rear, a procession of bagpipes and drums lead the bottle to its resting place inside the Grand Hall inside the LCBO (this location is THAT amazing - it's got a GRAND HALL). Once the procession had ended the bottle was removed from its special case and placed on display. Attendees took their seats and heard speeches from a member of the LCBO, Wounded Warriors and two representatives from William Grant & Sons. The second of two representatives Ms. Beth Havers led us all through a nosing and tasting of Glenfiddich's 12, 21, 30 and 50 year vintages. (the 50 year old is actually sold at this LCBO location and retails for a mere $26,000 - meaning the taste we had was worth roughly $500). I should note I've never eaten a meal worth $500 let alone had a drink worth that much - I felt like a King! The tasting was followed by an assortment of snacks provided by Rock Lobster a Toronto based Seafood Food Truck. They decided to take inspiration from Scottish Culture for the meal and we were provided with: Lobster Rolls, Oysters on the 1/2 Shell, Scottish Smoked 8 Year Cheddar cheese and a Beef appetizer which had been braised in Glenfiddich 12 year - the taste was unmatched. While this sort of red carpet experience is not the norm at this location it certainly has quite a few extra elements which cater to this sort of exclusive event. A truly magical and breathtaking experience, one that I am sure to not forget anytime soon. I know where I am going for my bottle of Glenfiddich 50 year the day I win the Lotto 6/49. There are a few things in this world that just have to be seen to be believed. There are just certain sites that words or pictures cannot do justice, for example: The Pyramids at Giza, Niagara Falls, the Grand Canyon etc. Well, we can just go ahead and add the Summerhill location of the LCBO to that list. I had heard many great things about this LCBO but nothing did it true justice. This place is simply magnificent, my own personal Mecca! This place puts all other LCBO's to shame both in its size and vast selection. The beer selection, MY GOD THE BEER SELECTION! Their beer section is basically the size of a small liquor store in itself. They have virtually any beer my alcoholic heart desires, with a great selection of local, international and seasonal beers. For the wine drinkers they have the equivalent of a large LCBO for their wine department including a whole room of vintages and a sampling bar. In addition as one would expect the liquor selection is top notch as well. If you cannot find something at this location then it is probably not available in Ontario. I'm so in love with this place, even though I don't live anywhere close I will venture here the next time my beer fridge is empty because why go to the rest when you can go to the best. The building itself is really interesting as it used to be a train station and I love how they kept a lot of the details and have them integrated into the existing design. The cashier area used to be the waiting/ticketing area is exceptional nice with the high ceilings and the huge windows! There are so many beers here I could not find in my neighbourhood LCBO! My go to and favourite lcbo! Not only is it close by for me, but they also have the best variety. They have an amazing vintage section and awesome staff who are always knowledgeable and friendly. I also love how they are open a little later than other LCBOs! They have some classics that are always stocked but I love how they always have new stuff and huge section of vintage Bordeaux's (my fav)!! Love this place! read more

My exposure to this LCBO goes way back. My reference points are two large locations i.e. The original flagship on Cooper street and the one in the Bayview village mall. I started out with exploring the cooking/tasting classes offered here (wagyu, tapas and Bordeaux!) which are good if you want to learn to cook a few dishes and try out wines without breaking the bank. Then I seldom visit this location as the old flagship next door makes it hard to justify the visit here. Since the tasting by the shot concept is offered other location it's hard to come up here. However after a opportunity to attend a yelp event came up I decided to revisit. Glad to report there have been a few improvements since my last visit. There is a dedicated beer tasting area as well now. In addition the selection is second to none in Canada. I am referring to wines that are sold on auctions only, Bordeaux wines that are pre-sold before the season one can just walk in and pick them up without a hitch. The staff seems knowledgeable when I needed their help. I think I will start visiting them more as the old flagship next door is set to close soon. read more

OK, so on principle I can never give an LCBO 5 stars. For better or for worse, this is the fanciest LCBO you're going to get in Ontario. I have to admit that it's actually a pretty cool concept. A former train station has been transformed into a pretty thorough liquor store with the cool concept of different areas being "tracks". If there's something you want in Ontario alcohol-wise, here and the Queen's Quay LCBO are the two places that you might find the more exotic items. This LCBO has everything from the cheapest beer to the most expensive scotch you can imagine. They also have a very cool tasting room, where you can taste products for relatively cheap prices prior to purchase. The staff here are maybe a little notch above LCBO's, although expect your standard mix of surly and unhelpful and knowledgeable and helpful. There's a parking lot if that helps with your mas spurchases. read more

I've learned that not all LCBO's are built equally. This is the biggest and most luxurious LCBO I've had the pleasure of coming across. The building itself reminds me of Grand Central Station. From the clock tower, and the train tracks on top of the building, it just has a nice feel to it. When you first enter (from the North entrance) the store looks like any other LCBO. The regular wine, coolers and party section. Then you enter what they call the "Premium Spirits" that you get into the really hot and heavy stuff. This is where you find the really expensive bottles seen in rap videos!! I'm not a big alcohol drinker, and I have an addictive personality, so maybe it's for the best. Trust me when I say that if there's anything you are looking for, you'll be able to find it here for sure. Just imagine your locale LCBO and multiply that by 3, and you have the size of this one. Heaven... If your idea of heaven is rows and rows of booze. OMG, I love this location!!! This store has an extensive collection of wines, this store is stacked. Samples as you peruse, it's like shopping in a candy store. What is standout about this location is that they offer tasting classes. There aren't too many LCBO locations that offer classes or a good variety of them. Also, being so close to Summerhill subway station, you can stumble back to the metro and feel at ease. I'm a big fan of tastings...okay, big fan is an understatement, I'm an addict. I just attended a Scotch (single malt) class, so admittedly, I'm sort of hammered right now...surprisingly I can still type). It was a pricier class at $125 for 1.5 hours (the classes range in price depending on if it's a single class or a series of classes, and also the alcohol served affects price). We sampled 7 scotches, reviewing the distinct regions of production. The instructor was awesome. He really knew his stuff. The pace of the class is lightning fast. They chose scotches that were noticeably different and served them with small samples of complimentary foods. The instructor went through methods for tasting and we were given a list of what was served so we could make notes. I had a GREAT time. I'm not just saying that because I'm drunk. I can't wait to sign up for thier wine courses. Classes sell out fast, so you need to act fast. I'm excited for my next class here! read more

The LCBO evokes a certain ire from me when I think of all the wonderful beers that I could be drinking if not for their restrictive import policies. But I put it aside when I visit the Summerhill LCBO, which is often as it's only a two minute walk from my front door. But fear not, if you aren't as close as I am, there's a spacious parking lot and it's only a minute from Summerhill station. This is the temple of the spirits, the holiest of booze holies, a divine shrine to fine wine. The building has been exquisitely restored and is absolutely stunning, worth the trip just to see the historic architecture. The vintage spirits room has single malt for all wallets, a thirty-two thousand dollar bottle of Louis XIII cognac, and a blown-glass bicycle bottle full of whiskey. If you can't find it here, you probably won't find it in Canada. The vintage wine selection is unmatched, you can get lost wandering just around the Bordeaux. The seasonal beer releases always get stocked at Summerhill, and they generally have plenty available. The staff here is friendly and helpful, they happily found me some honey wine and also fetched some of my favourite Baco Noir from the stock room. There are samplers during peak times, guided wine tastings, and a giant kitchen with a new cooking demonstration every week. The Summerhill LCBO has everything you need, so go get wasted! read more

This place us awesome! Being American, I was extreme impressed at the size and selection at this store. In the US, you can buy alcohol in most stores, so we don't tend to have many stores completely dedicated to booze. I know it's government owned and controlled and it's probably annoying if you live here, but I was impressed! We were able to find some really unique, hard-to-find bottles. My fiancé travels to Belarus for work on occasion, and since his first trip, he's been looking for a source for Belorussian vodka. Here, he found his hook-up! We also found Hungarian champagne. There should be the sound of singing angels everytime someone enters... just saying. Been checking out the Summerhill area for a while, but never ventured into the LCBO... Boy was I missing out! This place is spacious and beautiful - from the architecture, interior layout and pristine displays. Everything seems to have a tint of gold and sparkle, like walking into the Louvre of everything Liquor - they even have signs and arrows for each section so you don't get lost. I was on the hunt for the elusive Sommersby Blackberry Cider - it's always out of stock at the LCBO near my place. Since I was in the area, I made sure to check ot this LCBO. JACKPOT! Got my few cans and there were so many check out counters, paying was a breeze. I'm not big on alcohol (Obvs!! since I was going for a wussy cider), but this place looks like Heaven - I'm pretty sure you'll find whatever your boozey heart desires. read more

Don't get me wrong, this is probably the classiest liquor store in the country. It's huge, has a good selection, helpful staff and it's in an old train station which is pretty cool. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. It's the closest liquor store to where I live which is way too far. I hate having to make almost an hour long roundtrip journey just to buy a bottle of Moosehead when I live in the middle of Toronto. Also, the fact that you can't buy any alcohol (except at a usually overpriced bar) after 9 or 10pm is just ridiculous. Manitoba's system is nowhere near perfect, but you can at least buy beer at a few places until 2 a.m. I do NOT support the government monopoly on liquor sales. I've spent too much time in the States to realize independent liquor sales aren't a bad thing. It's fine that there are government stores, but why can't ma and pa make some money off it too? read more

As LCBO stores go, this one is the best and biggest. People come from other parts of Ontario and if they want booze I have to take them here just for the spectacle. The selection is fantastic, whether you want wine, beer, or harder stuff, and whether you want to spend $10 or hundreds on a bottle of wine. There are cooking and tasting classes available in-house. I do have a love-hate relationship with government-run liquor stores. On the one hand, they can get some great stuff in. On the other hand, they often get it in once and not bother to get it again even if it sold like hotcakes, because there's no competition. read more

The original building (The Summerhill-North Toronto CPR Station) was finished in 1916 and the tower was inspired by Saint Mark's Square in Venice. Who says you can't buy your liquor with class & style? Also it would make sense they would build the Summerhill Subway station a minute away from this previous train station, no? So it makes it very accessible for your liver-killing needs This used to be my local store when I lived in the hood for about a year a while back, walking to it and seeing it come into full view always made me smile. It is a very nice building. Okay, now to the booze. Since this is the LCBO flagship store, the place is huge! With a consumer choice to match. You want to try wine from Belarus or Tunisia? Sure, they got it too. Also, thanks to the selection you can get some really good vintage wines as gifts and special occasions without having to break the bank (hint, hint). Although you can if you wish. Also some weekend afternoons they will have Liquor and Spirits Tastings on their, (I guess you could call it) 'party room' at the west end ($2-$3 per glass) just off the middle of the store plus regular wine sampling in the middle of the store (free) right past the main room, walking from the south side. They also offer Wine classes, a product consultant and are bilingual. Go LCBO! Oh, and how could I forget? They also stay open late,10:00pm everyday except Sundays, 6:00pm. This store has scratched many a wine itch and saved many impromptu get-togethers. If you are/live close, this is all the LCBO store you need. I came to this location to pick up two bottles of higher-end whisky, and was not disappointed at all. this location used to be an old train station, which has been repurposed into an LCBO. looking this location up on a map led me to believe this location was a lot further south from the summerhill TTC station then what I expected by walking. within about 3 minutes of brisk walking I was inside a LCBO version of heaven. this location is what gorgeous looks like, everything is well stocked, Very organized(to the point where I got lost about 3 times) and immaculately clean. this location has a brand new "craft brewery" section, which is stellar to say the least, this location also has a tasting area, with tasting classes. suffice to say, if this location doesn't have what you are looking for, no one in Ontario does. lots of parking, TTC within minutes of walking, and super friendly-helpful staff makes this location absolutely legendary. a definite must to come and see. read more
