I'm a blue belt. Dropped in for a Gi class while on a business trip and had a great experience. Actually, I did two classes fundamentals and advanced one. And the latter, I felt a bit like a newbie with only me and another white belt. The rest were purple and up. However, my brown belt partner was very supportive. The gym was clean, well-organized, and welcoming to visitors. The coach ran a structured class with solid technical details. Training partners were respectful, skilled, and supportive--perfect mix of intensity and safety. Definitely a spot I'd return to if I'm back in the area. read more

I've been attending regular Tuesday/Thursday advanced BJJ classes for a little over a year and a half. Classes are typically run by 2-3 black belts, though it's not uncommon to have additional visiting instructors. Typical class attendance is 10-20 students of various levels. Classes are structured well, instruction is scaffolded so that you're usually building off techniques introduced the previous classes. Come ready for a workout--from warm-ups all the way through sparring at the end, expect to be challenged physically. I've experienced nothing but positivity and support from instructors and senior members, many of whom take special care to provide additional instruction to make me a more effective grappler. There is strong camaraderie among members and a strong team atmosphere. I'm proud to be a member of the team. read more

I have had nothing but an amazing experience in naperville & here. The teachers and classmates are generous, sincere, and they want to see you succeed. Theyre talented, focused, and positive individuals. Those that complain about the billing have to understand that this is a gym and not a paymemt processing company. They're on point for MMA and don't have access to the same tools a fortune 500 company has access to. Youre meant to set up your billing & forget it. I've never once witnessed someone making fun of someone else in any class. Gentle ribbing? Yes. This is MMA. Most join the gym to get tough, lose weight, or push themselves. If you cant (or dont want to) defend yourself or help in your own training you may not want to join. The work cant be done for you. If you ask for help with something youll get it. Its that simple. After every class everyone is asked if they want extra help. You're made aware in advance that you must give notice to cancel in a certain format....just like every other gym. To put it simply...99% of the battle is showing up and it appears to me that others lost that battle before they started. The reason they lost it has nothing to do with the gym. read more

I trained here for over a year, and I would caution anyone against joining this gym. First: incredibly disorganized. The owners do not update or maintain the schedules online to reflect what is happening in the gym on a given week. A good number of times, I wasted my time driving down to find no one was there even though we were supposed to be open. Nobody lets you know of the change. As that Anthony C. reviewer mentioned, I have witnessed new people being made fun of by the coaching staff, too. Also, it appears some of them are friends with the students, which wouldn't be bad if it didn't mean those people received extra attention at the cost of those who aren't hanging out with the staff. And, to again reinforce what Anthony C. has said, there are the issues with the membership fees. I call to cancel, which I was told we could do at any time. I call, the guy there tells me to bring in a letter. Wow, I have to waste more of my time? Ok. I write a letter, drive down to deliver it--and guess what? No one's there to receive it! Big surprise. Go to one of the coaches, explain what's up, and he tells me to call the owner. Gives me his number, too. I explain to him my situation and how I won't be able to attend the gym anymore. They tell me to send a certified letter. Then, the very next day, they charge my account--days earlier in the month than they had previously. And this is how they treat people who have been going here for awhile. Oh, and I should also mention the state of the equipment: most of it is broken, and there's not enough functional stuff lying around to facilitate a decent sized class. read more

I was overcharged for 3 months that I didn't even go. Unbelievably unorganized, no structure. Also, read through the reviews- "Danny T" is the Danny that owns the gym that Anthony references. Jiu Jitsu will make you crazy. If you really get into it you will find yourself doing squats while you brush your teeth in the shower, running to the gym in -5 degree weather, day dreaming about the proper technique to choke another person, secretly stretching while in meetings at work and possibly even putting on a little make-up to cover a black eye before you go into a board of directors meeting at work. You will also likely end up being crazy healthy, crazy in-shape and maybe even crazy ripped. There are all sorts of crazy in life. Sitting on the couch eating chips and watching TV is a different kind of crazy as is scores of other unhealthy habits. What kind of crazy are you? Over the past 6 months I have embraced this mental disorder. And I think if you dedicate yourself to it - you can be crazy too. I have always wanted to try Martial Arts and finally I found the time and found Evolution MMA and the Alliance Jiu Jitsu team. Training at Evolution MMA has been one of the best decisions I have made. I was hesitant training Martial Arts because I didn't know what to expect from "fighters", but the group of Alliance Jiu Jitsu grapplers at Evolution MMA have become a second family to me. Evolution MMA has some of the best fighters in all Belt classes. Everyone has been welcoming and willing to teach a Newbie like me, it makes going to train an easy decision even if I'm tired from work. And class availability are perfect times for me. Horrible gym. Horrible. I went in there with no experience with a desire to learn muay thai. the instructor would dole out combinations he wanted everyone to do, but I had no idea even how to throw punches properly. At no point did they try to teach a beginner, it was just (punch, kick, switch kick, punch, punch) then the instructor would go and pal around with someone. sometimes he would stop you, show you that he knew how to do it, but wouldn't teach you how to do it. I stuck with it and after 3 weeks, I had enough. Him and the other instructor were making fun of the way I threw punches VERY loudly. The kept laughing and laughing. The "owner" (or the guy who claims he is the owner) was there, same guy I signed up with, and I told him that I wasn't going to deal with that and I wanted to cancel my membership. He offered to give me a month for free, but I told him no, that I didnt want to learn from someone like that. How are you going to make fun a new student who doesn't know how because you didn't teach him?? Here comes the nightmare: I emailed him. he said he needed me to, so I could cancel my membership. so I did. I went on his site and emailed him like he asked. fast-forward to January: I notice I got billed by them. I called Danny. Danny said he cancelled my membership months ago and he would call his "billing girl" and have her send me the money back. couple weeks later, I called my bank and filed a dispute cause nothing was ever refunded. Fast-forward to today: The bank gives them the money back because they claimed I never cancelled. They also submit a copy of the contract that says they can continue to bill me. I call Danny. Danny says he remembers cancelling my membership, and he will call his billing girl. I asked for her contact info, and he says he doesnt know her desk number, that she works for another company. Since she just handles their billing, she will be in the office around 1 PM and she'll call me. Around 1:30 I get an email. She says she was never told to cancel my account, and therefore my card continued to be charged. She said I was supposed to send them a certified letter to cancel. No one told me this. She said she was at the mercy of the bank's decision. That was also a lie. Surprise, surprise! Guess who wont answer my calls anymore? the so-called 'owner'. Now I have to get the police involved cause I'm done playing games. As far as I'm concerned, they stole 150 dollars from me. This is a terrible muay thai gym, and a terrible business to lie and deceive someone like that. Turns out (googled it) his 'billing girl' works for him! She's his Administrative Assistant and a recruiter for that gym!! First time I have ever run into people like this. So much for making this right. Think about this before you sign up read more

The gym has terrible management and business operations! My son was signed up for lessons and I canceled them twice after he got in an unrelated injury 5 months later. I contacted the gym to cancel my membership via email and certified mail in compliance to their "contract" but have been charged far more than a fair share after. They have dished out of me hundreds of dollars knowing my son doesn't go to their class anymore. After calling and trying to dispute this for months the charges finally stopped, but my money was not returned. I would not recommend this gym to anyone due to their lack of responsiveness and poor business ethics. read more

This place sucks, Danny is a lying piece of crap. My son was taking muay thai and every time I took him, there will be different instructors and were very disorganized. When i first signed up my son, Danny told me that he had approximately 150 students (kids) but after 3 months taking my son, I've only seen approximately 4-6 kids. I tried canceling the service but I was told that I needed to send a certified letter, but I went a step further, I personally gave the letter to Danny but he refused to accept it and insisted I send it certified . I asked Danny to whom do I send the letter and he said to send it to him. I asked if he was kidding, why will I send it certified to you when I am right here giving it directly to you? he replied that the letter had to go to canada for processing, I told him that doesn't make sense why does it have to go to canada?. His answer was "The letter goes to canada and pretty much around the world before I get it". Not only was Danny mocking me, he was making it difficult to cancel the membership so he could continue charging my credit card, but as soon as I left the facility I canceled my cc with the credit company. If you want to try martial arts I understand that getting started is the most intimidating part, but there's no reason to be self conscious here. Everyone is super friendly and welcoming!!! The quality of the instruction is superb, and the intensity of the workout will bring you to a whole new level. If you're already in great shape that's fantastic, but I appreciated that when I gassed out in the beginning there was no judgement. Everyone understood and before I knew it I could keep up. I trained here for a little over a year. I decided to train elsewhere and tried to cancel my membership. They required that I send in their cancellation form via registered mail and give them 15 days notice. A little excessive, I thought, but I complied and sent in my cancellation request in mid November. Here it is 2 months later and I'm still being charged. What a scam. Find a better gym that doesn't try to rip you off. read more
