I was passing by and I saw this salon had a lot of clothing ON sale and Valentine's Day is in 2 days so I wanted to grab something for my girlfriend. I watched multiple people get let into this establishment and when I, a black man, wanted to go shop, the receptionist with the short light brown hair was EXTREMELY rude and lied about them not being open. UPDATE: I've reached out to my bank to confirm the amount I paid in October 2021 (which your reception mentioned over the phone was $185 when I asked for confirmation, and was the quote for last week's service). However, yes to the owner's suggestion - I will either find a less expensive salon in upper Manhattan or travel downtown to Bumble & Bumble in Soho or similar if I am inclined to pay those prices. I went to this salon last week Tuesday to re touch my blonde roots. I had a wedding to go to 4 days later (this past weekend). I don't understand how as a stylist you put a different color on my roots. The owner Lisa and another stylist put a strawberry color on my roots! Hair dye has numbers on it and I'm sure the blonde color numbers are way different from the red colors so they should of realized that something wasn't right BEFORE APPLYING IT. After washing out the strawberry color, they proceeded to try and bleach my roots which did not pick up the strawberry color much and then dyed some blonde highlights to make it "blend." I was there for 5 hours, left with my hair wet and with a huge migraine. Not only was the owner unsympathetic to the situation, she didn't offer a discount or even an honest apology. The next morning, when my hair was dry, I realized how bad and patchy of a job they did with my hair. Absolute horrendous. I would of done a better job myself with a box dye and saved myself $120!!!! I will never go back to this salon. Little did they know, I am a beauty consultant for a luxury hair and skin care company. If it wasn't for my products I truly believe my hair would of been in such a worse state. The products you put in your hair truly matter! The next day I bought a box dye and dyed my hair dark brown to fix what they did so not only did I lose my blonde but I lost time and money in the process. read more

She's warm, gracious and always does a great job. My favorite is also Iris. I love to watch her treat the elderly with such care and love while washing their hair. I refrained from going on YELP for six months, hoping to hear from you. I delayed writing this painful letter to ensure I was not just 'reacting' to bad behavior, but it involved three separate incidences, and I still feel sad and cheated. 1. I was one of your first customers to return after the COVID shutdown. I have been Vicky's customer for years and liked her work. This day was awful for me: - I was told that Vicky had only one other customer. I arrived, and Vicky was finishing putting color on another customer. I took a business phone call as my business was also critically hit by the virus too! Vicky ignored my hand up to wait before choosing the color. Vicky quickly applied a color. Unfortunately, the color looked drab and made my skin look yellow. Vicky said to come back next week if I remain unhappy. - 2. Remained unhappy, feeling ugly, I returned 4-5 days later. I explained to Vicky, and she disregarded that she had made the error. Suggested highlights (more expensive). I accepted as I couldn't leave with horrid color. She started applying, then went to your longtime receptionist, Kathy, and did a few highlights on her hairline. Then still not completed with one section of my highlights, did a blowout, and a cut on two further customers. I had to GO TO VICKY AND ask her to complete the unhighlighted section and check the back of my head. Your receptionist was sitting with her wet head waiting, as was I, and she saw me getting upset. Instead of saying something to Vicky, she turned her head. 3. BOTTOM LINE ON THIS DAY: I paid full and suffered from nearly two months of hair breakage because Vicky had left the highlighting solution on my hair too long. 4. Liking Le Chic and past work, I went to Liza and explained the situation. My appointment with Liza was in a chair on the other side of the salon to avoid, apparently, Vicky. So, there I sat with dye on my hair while Liza hung out on the other side, laughing and chatting about what I had said to Vicky. Tears came to my eyes, but I was trapped. Then to add pain, Vicky did a fake 'tip toe' to the register and out. These experiences at Le Chic have caused me emotional pain, and I PAID for this pain. Lisa, I know you are a fair person and will discuss this bad behavior with your staff. However, I also expect some sort of reimbursement. read more

Over priced for the services offered. I tried it twice and had the same experience both times. Let me start by saying my 1st visit was great & my 2nd was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! I went to this salon a month before my wedding to dye my hair light brown & everything was great, she told me to come back a week before my wedding to touch up my roots. I went back a week before my wedding & when she touched up my roots, they came out blonde! She said all she needed to do was add something to make it darker, it didn't work. Then she said she wanted to add highlights to somehow fix it, it didn't work. Then she tried to fix that, of coarse it didn't work. I was literally at the salon from 2pm-8pm, she let me leave the salon with my hair 3 different colors, charged me $75, then wants to offer to fix it at no charge in a few days. I trusted her, not only was she the owner of the salon, she told me she has 25+ years experience. I went to another salon the next day & literally had to beg her to fix the color on my hair. She said my hair was so processed, damaged, & had too much breakage at that point & didn't want to risk processing my hair further. What could've been an easy hair appointment at Le Chic, ended up being a complete nightmare. I would never go back there or refer anyone to them. read more

I was there going on three weeks ago for a cut and to have my hair dyed and it was a waste of my money. When I left the salon I got home and my husband was looking at my hair and saw a few long strands of gray hair that were not even covered by the hair dye. Two weeks later I noticed that a lot of my grays were showing and it was just not the root it was over half an inch. The dye had faded and when I called the salon to ask if there was anything they could do they told me "No because you should have came back within a week since that is our policy and it would be $80.00 just to cover the roots". First of all where in the salon does it state that a customer can return within a week and why are they going to charge me $80 to cover the roots when I paid $70 to dye my entire hair?? Such a shame since the people that work there are very nice, but I paid a lot of money for a professional hair dye job that faded within two weeks. I moved to Riverdale almost 2 years ago and it took a few tries at other salons until I found the right place. Happily, I found Silvia at Le Chic Salon, and I am so glad that I did. Silvia is a master colorist. She really needed to do a color correction after those few tries at other places, but now my hair color is so soft and natural and so complimentary to my complexion. She really knows what she is doing. And I flat out love my haircut. I had been wearing the same style for so long, then Silvia suggested that I cut it a bit shorter and I can't believe the difference. It looks fresh and young and stylish and it makes me feel great. Maybe most important of all, Silvia is just the most lovely, kind, and sweet person. She really listens and she does her work with a full heart and its always just so nice to be around her. read more

I always had a mildly negative view of Le Chic only because the average customer age seemed to be octogenarian. Get your hair cut here and you won't regret it. Vicki is amazing. She now cuts my hair and my daughters. Her cuts are modern and up to date and she truly listens to her customer. Liza, Lisa, and Ivette are also amazing. The bridal styles they do are beautiful, and you can't beat the atmosphere. Cappuccino or espresso while you wait? You can't get this kind of service in this price point in manhattan. . The behind the scenes staff are so wonderful, Camelia and Rosa will wash your hair and make you feel like royalty. Don't judge this book by its cover. read more

Recently went to get a hair cut and a blow out. I went there a few days before and I was told by the receptionist that it was going to be $65 for both. This is the first place I have been to that charges more for a blow out (usually it is always included in the same price as the haircut) I was very simple, got a few inches off... no angles, no layers.... anyway it definitely took longer than it should have, but that didnt bother me. What bothered me was going to pay and a different receptionist charged me almost $75 for my hair. So not only was I lied to about the price, but the blow out wasn't anything special. I found Le Chic online and was so charmed by the experience I walked into and the good hair I left with. I came in on a Saturday afternoon for highlights and a trim. The place was abuzz with friendly staff and neighborhood clients, including lots of spry elderly folks that told the funniest stories. The cappuccino they offered was such a lovely gesture. Vicky is a total pro. I showed her a model photo with the shade of blonde I wanted, and she knew exactly what to do. Between Vicky's precision with the foils, and attention to processing time (as well as the shampooer's hard work rinsing my hair as nimbly as needed) I felt well-taken care of. In addition, I'm so thankful they offer a student discount. If I wasn't moving soon, I'd be a customer for life. Highly recommend! read more

20 minute wait after my appointment time is fine, but they did not tell me they changed my person from Lisa to Vikki until I got there. My birthday is this week so I didn't really have an option but to go ahead with the appointment since my lob had really grown out since I moved to Riverdale (I was nervous to try someone new so I wanted to book with the owner/master stylist according to their site) Never before had someone confuse a shoulder length lob with a chin length bob until yesterday. My fault for getting my hair cut by someone random the week of my birthday, I guess. The haircut when wet was the length I wanted but way too short when dry. I immediately went to CVS to buy hair vitamins and product to keep a "wet look" which is how I'll be wearing it until it grows. I also asked for a textured cut but she used blunt scissors and used a razor in random parts at the end making it even shorter but in a visibly uneven way making it hard to change my part (compared to when razor scissors are used on the whole cut as it should on thick hair like mine). She did ask to razor the back more when she saw I wasn't happy but frankly I was afraid to have her cut my hair even shorter. They do not include blow out in the price of a cut which I was told after my haircut so I left with damp hair not knowing what it would look like styled. The people were nice, the place was clean and wash was good. My hair doesn't look horrible (so I won't let my feelings bring it to a 1 star) but it is the worst cut I've gotten in terms of ask v results, and with a place that changes the person you book without notice, I won't be back. read more

Im not sure why people have given low ratings to this place. I go there for waxing with Jane and she is awesome! I can always get a last minute appointment when needed, and one time I missed my appointment by an hour, they were totally helpful and fit me in later that same day. In addition, they have a parking lot in the back, which makes life much easier! I think their prices, at least for waxing, are about average. The only reason for 4 stars is that they have an app for appointments which never works, so thats a bit frustrating but its not the end of the world to call. After visiting other salons in the area, I finally decided to give Le Chic a try. It is safe to say that I plan on being a regular customer from here on out! I scheduled my appointment with Lisa and loved how she took the time to find a cut that fit me. She was very friendly, patient and conscientious of exactly how I wanted my hair to look. I was very happy with how my cut came out! The atmosphere of the salon is very modern and clean. Each of the staff made an extra effort to make me feel welcome and comfortable throughout my visit. You even get a complimentary hot tea, cappuccino or espresso while you wait! TIP: College students receive 20% off all services and 10% off the purchase of any of Le Chic's products! I loved how I was able to get such a great wash, cut, blow-dry and style without burning a hole through my wallet. When I moved to the Bronx someone recommended that I go to Le Chic. Perhaps I'm generalizing here, but women seem to care more about their hair than guys do. I consider myself lucky that I still have a full head of hair, and as long as it looks alright, I'm fine with it. I been going to Le Chic for 2 -3 years now, and Yvette cuts my hair. I like her very much, but overall, the place is only OK. I feel like the $60 I pay for a wash and cut is a lot considering how little time I spend in the chair. Go see Sokol! I have followed him to 3 salons now and he is the best of the best. As a master stylist he gives a fantastic cut and I wouldn't allow anyone else ever to do my highlights!!!! He has done my hair and makeup for multiple special occasions and his formal looks are always as unique as they are classy. The salon has plenty of easy on street parking and is well maintained. My hairdresser went out on leave and Tina charged me more than double what she normally charges and did not apologize for taking advantage of me. I've been going here since I moved into the neighborhood (Riverdale) over 6 years ago and think it's one of the best salons in the area. I've been going to Violet who does a great job with blowing out my very curly (sometimes kinky and unruly) as well as color. When she's not available Vicky has also blown out my hair. They are able to manage it and blow it out in a way that other stylists (including those in Manhattan) can't by leaving it frizzy after a blowout. I agree with other ratings that the atmosphere is a fun one - offering you cappuccino or coffee while you await in a social, comfortable setting. The girls who wash your hair are also very friendly. If you are a bride in need of accommodating your wedding party, this salon seems to be the go-to place - they're a one stop shop for the party including hair and make up.
