Fantastic Experience at the Hair Salon I have been coming to Amelia's salon for exactly a year. My friend recommended me. I went to someone else who charged a lot of money and I didn't love my hair. Hatice has cut my hair for a number of years, I have followed her from another salon in Riverdale. She never disappoints! The salon is small and welcoming. The shampooer gives a wonderful head massage and is so relaxing. Hatice always makes time to take me, the salon is on a busy road but parking is always plentiful. However, a few months back the stylist made a real blunder with my very precision bob haircut..but rather than being apologetic and reaching out to make it right...I was gaslit, not just by the stylist, but by the salon's receptionist too that I was imagining there was an error...and all n all made me feel awful. I had my hair done for my 27th birthday and I couldn't have been happier. My hair was cut and colored by Linda. Her work is nothing less than perfection. For starters she is very meticulous and detail oriented, there was not one strand of my hair she did not pay attention to. I have never had light hair before and my natural hair color is very dark almost black. She created the most amazing honey caramel blonde color. I've never been happier getting a haircut then at Amelia's. All the staff from Blondie the receptionist, hair washing, and hair stylists are engaging, and more then pleasant. When Tina washes my hai, the way that the shampoo, and conditioner are massaged into my hair is so relaxing I start to doze off, and have fallen asleep. By the way Tina is related to the owners Lina, and Pavlina. I have been getting my hair cut by Linda since 2013 or 2014 when it was owned by someone other then Linda, and Pavlina. The Salon is much brighter, and the decor is a huge improvement then before. I've never had a better haircut, and Linda is like family. Who by the way cuts my son, and cuts, and colors my wife's hair. It's a great family run business. I can't say enough about this place, and would recommend it to anyone. Jeff G read more

Awful place for people with curly hair who want to lift their hair with blower. I think it was the most terrible experience that I could have with my hair, I know that I have long, curly hair but never in my life had my hair been so spongy, shapeless at the ends and even wet at the root. I take good care of my hair so I don't use an iron to lift it, I never need it but the lady who was trying to dry my hair wanted to use the iron to be able to lift it, I tell her that I never liked using the iron but she insisted in that that was the only way to leave straight hair. obviously I didn't let her finish her job and I decided to go somewhere else, even with my half wet hair the lady charged me $ 25 dollars. terrible salon read more

This place is located in RIVERDALE. Riverdale is known for all the friendly businesses that cater to families with children. I've been wanting to go here to do my hair,however I will never step foot in this place. I was waiting for my daughter who was at a piano lesson when my son got the urge to use the bathroom. I kindly explained to the woman in the second chair that my FOUR year old son needed to use the bathroom. She looked me up and down and stated " I'm sorry it's only for customers". I said wow he's four!!!! She just shrugged her shoulders! So I went next door and the manger of the other business said "of course he can use our bathroom" My son asked "why is she mean"...that mad me really upset! read more

I'm on the fence about my review so I'll break it down and hopefully it helps. The staff were wonderful and super friendly and nice. I went in for a major cut of my long locks, and some sectional highlights. I wasn't sure what kind I wanted and they were very helpful in giving me options. I chose a red color for my streaks and was very, very happy with my cut and color when I left the salon. By the end of one week, however, my color had turned orange. I didn't want orange, I wanted red, and wish I'd known this would be the case. So I've been living with my orange streaks which are increasingly fading. I don't hate them, but it's not what I wanted and I don't love it. I LOVED it when I left the salon. Maybe this is normal, but not being something I frequently do I wouldn't know. So I leave it to you all to decide. Staff was wonderfully helpful and nice, and I did love it when I left, it simply became rather quickly and increasingly with each wash something I do not like. I do, however, still love the cut. read more

I have the curliest hair you've ever seen but in 15 minutes I can straighten w/ a blower and it's fine and thin. My curls can be intimidating and I have only ever gone to Dominican salons b/c they know exactly what to do w/ my hair... except cut it. I hate the haircuts I get at Dominican salons, they never cut enough, the cuts too blunt, uneven and they'll just do what they want w/ your hair... but not here. I went to Maria and even though she's Russian, and she was afraid of my hair, she gave me the best cut I've ever had. It's a small space but it's very clean and the staff is nice. read more

I went to Maria for a blow out and I was not happy at all. My roots were as frizzy as could be. I almost begged not to us the curling iron because of the excessive heat on my hair and she insisted because she could not tame my hair. My hair is not course at all however is frizzy. A real professional stylist can blow dry hair and tame frizz without ironing it down. Not happy and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Still on the hunt for a good salon read more

This is the best place to get a haircut in riverdale. I used to go to aria, but they charged me like $80 for a haircut. crazzzy expensive. then I decided to give shear bliss a shot, and it was really great. They washed my hair, and cut it for $ 45. In addition it's decorated really cute, so I highly recommend shear bliss next time you need a haircut. read more

I went to get my roots done, scared that they wouldn't be able to match the color. I was in spinach because I couldn't get to my regular hairdresser who is in new jersey. Yes, that's right I go all the way to jersey to get my hair done even though I live in Inwood. That's how women are with their hairdresser. But Maria did a fabulous job! She matched my roots perfectly, made my hair look healthy and fabulous. The salon was welcoming and friendly. They offered me coffee, tea, bagels. I will definitely return. SB was recommended to me by a colleague whose hair always looked good and well groomed. Her stylist, Linda, did a color job on me and was wonderful in demeanor and professionalism. When my timer was up for the second application, I couldn't find her and asked the stylist next to me if she saw her anywhere. She responded incredulously as if I had offended her, shrugged as if she didn't know who Linda was, and then when Linda came, gave a stern and lengthy "reprimanding" to Linda in front of me, and then turned back at me to punctuate the exchange with an angry glare. I was taken aback at the whole episode - she wasn't in the middle of speaking to her client, and I racked my brain for anything I may have done that seemed inappropriate. Eventually I felt disgusted. A customer would have to do something egregious to deserve any of that. I asked the woman at front desk if I could speak to the manager, and she told me that the woman with the attitude was THE OWNER! Well, that settled that. If she's overworked, that's a blessing. She should not harm other stylists' business by putting their customers in an uncomfortable situation. And expect them to come back and keep giving her their money? The color seems drab and lacking dimension too and a blow dry was an additional $40?! I'm sticking with my normal place even if its all the way in Brooklyn. read more

She's very funny and smart and chatting while getting your 'do is something I usually dread at a salon but with Terri, it's a delightful experience. I would say she is definitely my favorite hair stylist of all time! She has a warm personality and is truly an artist with her scissors. Blondie and Tina, the shampoo gal, are both very welcoming. I have been to every hair salon throughout Riverdale Avenue up to the border of yonkers. I always left with a smile on my face, but was never 100% satisfied especially being that once upon a time I had the money to drop upwards of $500.00 for a cut with 5 star service. Well, being unemployed and now a single parent was how my journey began in search of a place. I found Shear Bliss on yelp this morning and based on the other review figured I had nothing to lose with fingers crossed since I have an interview tomorrow. The place is absolutely wonderful! The owner Terry is out of this world and went out of her way to ensure the correct color was selected. The hair stylist Maria gave me a phenomenal cut and as far as I'm concerned took 10 years off my face. From the front desk person to the shampoo girl they all made you feel as if they have known you forever. I have found my new salon and have no intention of going any where else regardless of how much money I make again in the future.
