The 5 minute wait was no big deal on a Sunday afternoon, and we were seated at one of the tables that looks directly onto the street. While it's not a busy street, it was a nice spot to people watch or just breathe in the fresh air (while staying warm). On a similar note, Chic Shack has a great interior that's a little industrial and a little chic. It makes for a great vibe. Our waiter took awhile to appear, and while he was friendly, the service was consistently slow. I got Le Robuste with a side of maple chips. The food was really quite good--the burger, while cooked medium-well (I prefer medium or medium-rare), had plenty of juice and the flavors of the pickles, cheese, and the arugula gave it a fresher note. The maple chips were out of this world--it seems like everything is better with maple syrup, and the chips were no exception. I'm not one to write reviews ( sounds cliche, but I really don't), but thought this place needed an honest review. We went to the Chic Shack with the excitement of burgers, milk shakes and poutine. We ended up ordering a burger called petite dej, the classique poutine, Coq au Vin Poutine and a salted caramel maple milk shake. unfortunately we were very disappointed. The burger tasted over cooked and not very flavourful. The two poutines had NO CHEESE CURDS on them. I literally searched for the cheese thinking it was at the bottom, only to find a few parmesan shavings here and there. IF you're going to have cheese curds in your description, you should deliver. I asked one of the servers if I could have more, thinking that maybe they all melted and ended up with more parmesan! They either, don't know what cheese curds are (which would be shocking) or they ran out and didn't bother telling us, which is a disappointment in itself for customer service. The milk shakes were too melted to the point where it's just drinking melted ice cream. I personally like my milkshakes to be thicker with still some frozen parts, so unless that's what you like. Also, the salted caramel maple milk shake tasted like vanilla ice cream. I confirmed with the server if I was given the correct milkshake and he said "yes". Again, another disappointment. The only upside to this place was friendly service and their poutine sauce, but other than that, I would eat somewhere else for burgers. This is a cute spin on Shake Shack (for my fellow Americans). It sits right below Cheateau Frontenac so the view is great. We opted to sit outside so it's also great for people watching and listening to the street musicians. The food was good. Since Canada is known for their poutine, I tried their braised beef version. Was rather disappointed with this place, and had high expectations based on the positive reviews. First, it was the off-season (early Nov) and there were less than 10 customers but service was very slow and decidedly lax. We ordered one chic burger, on ricoco salad, regular poutine and one chic cola. Cola came first. Overabundance of ice but flavor was decent. Had a particular citrus note to it and wasn't too sweet. Rest of order took forever and this is not complicated food. Poutine was probably the better of the items, which isn't saying much. As others noted, they use diced home fry wedges. If that's not your thing, and your here to try traditional poutine, I suggest you go somewhere else. Cheese curls were good and squeeky/rubbery in a good way. Gravy was very much like that of KFCs, thin but not overly salty. All in all, filling and mildly satisfying. The salad was mediocre. Chicken was cold and dry. Avocados were bitter. Greens and dressing were average. Burger by far was the worst. Apparently you can't choose how it is cooked so "hockey puck" seems to be their default. Bun was bad as well. My boyfriend and I stopped by here after a walking tour through the city. They seated us on barstools next to an open window overlooking one of the cobblestone streets. I settled on the original poutine, of which I absolutely loved the flavor! What I didn't care for was the cut of the potatoes. They were small russet-type potatoes cut in half and then fried. Too much potato which seemed to overwhelm the poutine topping. This was not their fault, I should have read the reviews as well as the menu and I would have realized, this is what they serve. Again, the gravy topping was absolutely amazing, the flavor was off the charts, but the potatoes were a little off-putting. OMG GUYS GUYS GUYS If you're in Quebec City you have gotta try this place. We were hungry and looking for a bite and assumed everything by the boardwalk would be touristy-overpriced. Using my trusty Yelp app I found this place right next to (and I mean literally right next to) the boardwalk and area by the shops and stalls. We ordered a burger (brie) and a poutine (mushroom) and they were so good that I was upset there wasn't a sister restaurant back in Montreal. The poutine's toppings looked good, and then we discovered that there was essentially a mushroom stew at the bottom of the bowl. We could literally have ordered a serving of fries and used surplus toppings to make a second poutine. They even have beer flights (try out smaller sizes of multiple beers). For a place that everything is made fresh/local to be that good and that price is one thing, but then you gotta think that they're doing it in a super great location too. After seeing Le Chic Shack on "You gotta eat here" I knew this was a place worth trying. I am not a big fan of poutine but when you're in Quebec... Reached here in the afternoon while the restaurant was still packed with people enjoying their lunch. We were seated and looked through the menu before we decided to go for poutine and Le Shack Burger. Unfortunately they were out of the braised meat for La Fumée, which we really wanted and instead suggested the La Braisee. Food came out quickly and we started digging into it. The burger tasted good but was dripping in fat. The poutine surprised me. It had a nice gravy and big shreds of cheese with perfectly fried potato cubes. The pickled onion complemented these flavours perfectly. Now to the facilities. Staff were very quick to clean up the tables before seating the next customer, which is as it should be. Cutleries are served in a box on the table but unfortunately the box on our table was filled with food scraps, so no matter what fork we picked it was covered in old food. Not what you want to see just before eating. Maybe they should make sure to clean out the boxes regularly too. Another minus is that to my surprise there seems to be only two (!) washrooms (one for men and one for women) with two booths each in the whole establishment. This is surprising considering the size of this restaurant and the amount of clients we saw. In addition, the washrooms were so tiny that there was barely room for one person in there, let alone two. To summarize I would give the burger 3 stars, poutine 4 and the establishment a 2, which gives a total rating of 3 stars. read more

My wife and I came to Quebec City for our first wedding anniversary and were staying at the Chateau Frontenac in the heart of Old Quebec. One of the first things she wanted to do when we arrived was get authentic Québécois poutine and lucky for us the Chic Shack was at the bottom of the hill right outside the Chateau. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was fantastic! Everything there is made in-house, including their soda pop. No Coke or Pepsi here! Not being much of a poutine person myself I opted to try their chicken burger and parmesan/truffle oil fries which were absolutely to die for. I also tried their "Chic Cola", a homemade cola that was quite interesting. It had a nice fruity citrus flavour that wasn't expecting (though don't expect it to taste like Coca Cola, this is one of a kind). My wife on the other hand had a maple and salted caramel milkshake which she is still talking about, and of course poutine, with smoked meat (another Québécois classic) added. She assures me it was delicious. The prices weren't unreasonable, and the location certainly couldn't be beat. While you could definitely find perhaps more "authentic" and cheaper poutine elsewhere in the city, this is a great option if you want to have something unique and memorable. read more

It was good. However the poultine was repeatedly described as a baked potato. However it was actually deep-fried chunks of potato. We each ordered one dish and one drink and then one person got their food but no drinking the other one to drink but no food.
