We enjoyed a lunch of Canadian cuisine here last month. I loved the thing, it felt very Canadian without being too gimmicky. Our waitress was great as well! I had the fish and chips. The fish was moist, but the breading was a little soggy on the inside. Also they didn't have malt vinegar to go with the fish and chips, but the brought me a bottle of white vinegar. My dad had the Effet Boeuf poutine. The braised beef on it was incredibly tender and flavorful. The mushroom sauce, bacon, and mayo on top were tasty but definitely pulled it away from being a classic poutine. Overall a very enjoyable lunch. read more

Amazing place to grab beer in Petit Champlain. There was a wait to sit inside so the hostess gave us a lovely heated table outside. Didn't try the food as we had a reservation coming up at Bello on the other side of Old Quebec and the Chateau Frontenac where we were staying but our two flights of beer were wonderful. read more

Great place to stop for a quick bite. Plenty of seating inside and outside. The outdoor seating also has fire pits and heat lamps. The food was good, typical bar food. Portions were on the small side. 4 instead of 5 stars because while the servers were lovely, service was slow. Onion soup, not French Onion soup. It is good but it will fill you up with gas later. No need to fill up your car after coming here, the flatulence this soup will provide you will give you enough mileage to get you from Quebec City to Montreal without stopping. The shrimp tacos are good but the portion is tiny. They have nice zing but something is missing about these. Eh, not too sure what it is. Maybe it will come to me later. In the meantime, you might wanna open some windows after your meal is over. read more

A little disappointing. I ordered the Fish and Chips and it was not well prepared. The portion of fish was small, and it did not taste fresh. And the "Chips" that came with it were not fresh cut. We were able to get a discount since we stayed at a partner hotel, so after reviewing the menu we decided to give it a shot. We ordered the shrimp tacos, goat cheese pizza, and fondue. The server explained that it wasn't the fondue Americans typically expect, but it was very tasty either way. The shrimp taco was also good, but three tiny shrimp per taco was a bit weak imho. It was unfortunately the same with the pizza and its scarce prosciutto pieces. That being said, the Valkyrie beer was phenomenal!A very solid 3.5 stars imho, so I'll bump to 4. read more

We stumbled upon this restaurant when exploring the lower city. We showed up with a party of 8 (2 high chairs) right when they opened and were seated immediately. I adventurously ordered the Blood Pudding with a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon, and it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The blood pudding itself had a nice crispy exterior and was popping with flavors of winter spices. It came on a plate of mashed potatoes with brussel sprouts, pickled onions, and cauliflower, all of which worked really well together. My wife had a pizza topped with prosciutto, and my sons ate a bowl of spaghetti and popcorn chicken. The staff was very attentive to one of our party's extensive food allergy issues, and they made sure that to "stack" the delivery of the childrens' meals before the adults' meals, although everything came out relatively quick. The ambience was a blend of fresh decor in a very old building. I believe they have their own (extensive) brewery selection, though none from our party were drinking beer during this visit. We'll definitely be back again the next time we are in this part of Quebec City! read more

The octopus and the flavor were good, but the pork belly was literally a slab of fat with just a sliver of meat on the end. This place (the city in general) has definitely suffered due to the pandemic. While we are really patient and understanding of slower service right now, communication and friendliness can really make up for it. If we weren't just passing through town on the busy Friday lunch hour, we would have skipped this place and gone somewhere else. It's one of the first cafes after the seaboard so it gets packed. The host really turned us off. She just looked out of place and uninterested in being there. She told us we'd have to wait about 15-20 minutes as the kitchen needed to catch up, so we were fine with that since it was likely the case at the next place. As people came up after us, she began letting them in while we waited outside of the patio area. After the the third group was let in, I finally confronted her and asked why we weren't being let in. She looked confused and told me the kitchen was backed up. I asked why we couldn't just sit on the patio to wait and she didn't really say anything. Finally she made a face, told us to come in, threw menus on the table and just walked away. She didn't seem overly friendly or interested in serving other customers either. And for the record, I was speaking French so it's not because of speaking English. While we did have to wait a while for food, which we were warned about, the server was very friendly, the food was ok and the beer was pretty good. Lots of beer options on the menu. If you need a washroom, it's not accessible. It's down the stairs into the underground restaurant which was completely dead inside as everyone was on the patio enjoying the weather. read more

It took 5 minutes for any of three bartenders to make eye contact. (We were the only two not already served out of 7 total people at the bar). Cocktails are "pre-measured" with a gun. Had an excellent lunch here. Everything was terrific. My vegetarian burger, the chickumi burger, was made from scratch--not a given--and great in every way. Especially delightful was the Valkyrie Cheesecake (photo below)--definitely not your ordinary cheesecake. What made the meal exceptional, though, was our amazing server, Magalie. She was the quintessential server, gets five out of five stars in all the dimensions of what she did for us, really went the extra mile to make sure we were happy with what we ordered, etc. Thanks, Magalie, for making our first meal in Quebec City such a showstopper! read more
