I was really excited about this place, and unfortunately had a pretty disappointing experience. Price: this tiny bowl that could pass as a side was $20. The bowl was also half gravy and was weak on fries and curds. Quality: the gravy looked and tasted like it was from a mix. The "smoked meat" addition was tiny shreds with little flavour. Service: I wasn't allowed to get takeout, which is not good in a covid world. I also has to wait a long time around my bill. Quality poutine and good burger. Definitely prefer the poutine to the burger though. Perfect place to stop in and warm up on a cold day in the old town with a nice view of passerby's walking up the hill. Recommend the la forestiere poutine. Lots of mushrooms on the bottom which complement the smashed potatoes and sauces. Parmesan is a nice addition to the cheese curds with a sharp hint of some sort of truffle flavored sauce. Burger was okay. Probably too full from the poutine to really enjoy it. One thing is that all these foods are quite heavy. Good for a cold day, but definitely schedule a walk afterwards. I had the maple shake and it was soooooo gooood!!! Definitely the best shake I've ever had. It's super busy and very popular. Even though the staff looked really stressed and were rushing, they were still very kind. Also they can speak English. The burger was super juicy and the condiments on it was unique. The poutine was really good too. everything was amazing. I could understand why it's so popular. When the food was taking too long because of how busy it was they gave us a free bowl of poutine. When they accidentally mixed up my mothers salad, giving her the one without chicken, they immediately gave her a bowl of chicken to add to the salad and offered us a free desert. So as of Dec 20, 2021, I came to the store at 5:30 Pm hearing a good review. The server said the room is full and due to the new Covid rule, I have to wait outside 25-45 mins approx where it's -15C. So I was cool, that's fine, and went to a coffee shop to wait for 40 mins as he told me. Came back at 6:15 pm, same guy telling me their supply chain was scrapped by new Covid rule so they have to close early. It sucks, but I am cool too. Here's the irony, they have ingredients to provide me a take out order???!! (weird) I look at the available space in dining room asking if I can eat in place quick since I spent all the time waiting and they can just hang the close sign. He said nope despite many existing customers still taking their sweet time there, and just left me standing there confused. Call me an idiot, but this is an awful experience. Within that 40 mins timeframe he could just let me know don't wait since they are running out of food or otherwise, give this guy a chance to dine in considering there is capacity. I am just one guy who wants to eat a burger quickly. This is far from their closing time at 9pm too. Feel like the server just be pissed with the new rule and I become the accidental punching bag for all his upsets. Le Chic Shack is a great place to grab a burger in Québec city. To top it off, the drinks are good too! I had the simplest burger on the menu, but the buttery bun and homemade pickles were just what I needed. Others in my party enjoyed a salad and other burgers with fancy toppings like eggs or bacon. The food was quite good but WILDLY expensive. My partner and I each had a burger, side, and milkshake and it ended up being $69 before tip??? We later went to Le Ciel (the rotating restaurant at the top of Hotel Le Concorde) for brunch and each had an appetizer, latte, and entrée for $58. Please tell me why Chic Shack is more expensive than a fine dining restaurant with a chef and sous chef, and fresher, more high quality ingredients?? Anyways, go to Le Ciel instead! Full disclosure: I've never been a fan of poutine. So I wasn't planning to sample much of this regional dish on a recent trip to Quebec City (though we did on our first night there and I wasn't impressed). A friend and I signed up for a food tour and Le Chic Shack was the first top on our tour. Color me surprised, this poutine was PHE-NOM-ENAL. We had just a small sampling of their basic poutine, with potatoes, pickled onions, brisket, aioli and curds. It was probably the best meal of the entire tour and left me wanting more. I made sure to come back our last evening in town to get a full version of this and it totally hit the spot. Lunch on a Thursday was fairly busy. We ordered the Classique poutine and a Le Shack burger to share. Firstly, we were pretty surprised at the presentation of the poutine: fried potatoes in a more "rustic" style with a fairly thin gravy. Lots of cheese! It all tasted really good, with a nice balance of pepper and salt and onion, but the texture of the potatoes threw me off from the poutine I typically know and love. The burger was fairly small for $13, but it had tons of flavour! The patty was juicy and felt and tasted house made. Garnishes (pickles and sauces) were on point and helped to cut through the meatiness and grease. As a tourist, this was very close to the Quebec Sightseeing buses in front of the Fairmont. During lunch, it is a bit busy, and there was no server to guide my family and I to our table, so we took it upon ourselves to sit after a few minutes of waiting. However, the servers took our order right away. I ordered the Le Robuste, which contains bison - my first time ever trying bison in fact. This was amazing, definitely much more unique than a burger in the states. The sweet potato fries were crispy, just the way I like them. Another fact about this place is they don't use any of the commercial brand sodas, they make their own. I decided to try the mango soda. I am not getting the high rating for this place, apart from a good milkshake and a decent braised beef burger, this place is a disaster! There is a quite a bit of lineup to eat here, so you'd think the food actually delivers. We were a group of 5 seated in different tables of 2 and 3. The poutine had a lot of cheese which is a good thing, but it also was literally swimming in sauce and it was made with home fries and not french fries, end result was pretty tasteless soggy poutine. Venison burger was dry and BAD, had to eat it with ketchup. Braised Beef burger was decent and juicy, but not worth the wait at all. The worst part comes when the server brought the bill, she included the tip already in my bill and said the tip is already included. I am not confrontational anymore so I accepted it but I shouldn't have been put on the spot, you can't enforce tips on legal ground even if you're in a designated tourist area, then she started talking to me about where I am from and how do I like the city etc ( This is like my 5th time in the city, so I am hardly a tourist). It was really good not super amazing or anything but good! The interior of the place is pretty cool a bit industrial but the kept a lot of the bones of the original building. We stopped by here during off season when the air was just starting to chill the last week of October. Based off the menu, it sounded very much like shake shack (as Dana R. mentioned in a previous review) so we were also intrigued. The service is friendly, but not attentive- however, being a burger joint I can't really fault them on this as it's not the traditional dine-in experience. We were seated right away, and the waiter took our order promptly. We ordered some forgettable burgers, the malasa poutine, the salted maple caramel milkshake, and the dark chocolate milkshake. Honestly, I could have done without the burgers at all. In hindsight, we could have honestly just shared one burger and filled up on the delicious and original masala poutine. We were just here in Quebec in November for the Christmas markets. My sister-in-law had been in the spring and told me about Le Chic Shack. I didn't know if I wanted America-style food but it was great. It still feels like Québec: warm, friendly, fresh food, tasty beef in the burgers and real ice cream in the shakes. The poutines here are nice. The first thing you notice is that they use smashed potatoes instead of the typical french fries most places use. Secondly, they pile on a ton of cheese curds. Half the poutine seems to exist of squeaky delicious cheese curds. Then when you eat it, you notice the gravy isn't too salty and actually is rather peppery. Delicious. There was quite a line up outside but it moved quickly and we found ourselves at a the communal table next you a very friendly bunch. We took the safe bet and ordered the classic poutine with a side of burgers haha. The regular sized burgers are like $14 -$16 but our primary focus was the poutine so we only got the smaller $7 burger. There's only one option for this small burger though. The quantity was just appropriate for the two of us. The poutine was definitely a hit and something very different from what I am used to.
