I probably should give this place 5 stars based on the fact that it was the only non-Asian vegan friendly restaurant that I was able to find the last few days. I give it 4 stars, because I didn't get to try more than two things on the menu and thus cannot evaluate it fully. The menu is built on some very basic plates and dishes. If you are from LA, think Real Food Daily's meals where they provide several types of vegan staples on one plate. Their appetizers looked great, I wish I had actually been hungry enough to eat a 3 course meal so that I could try them. Unfortunately, I wasn't and I really hate wasting food. I chose one of the plates for my entree. It included brown rice, fried tofu, seitan, a cabbage salad, steamed veggies and a veggie burger patty. Everything was cooked very well, and though I am not normally a fan of plainly cooked tofu, the way they cooked it made it have a great deal of flavor, it even tasted a little like sausage. I finished off my meal with a piece of apple pie, which was a good balance of tart and sweet. The location is a little hard to find, but the outside is adorable, very quaint and covered in vines. Once you walk in, the restaurant is small, and has two levels attached by a VERY small spiral staircase. AVOID HIGH HEELS if you come here, had I worn mine, I might have broken my neck. I think the best asset of this restaurant was the staff. It was by far the best service that I received during my stay in Paris. They were very attentive and very kind. The pricing was not too bad, especially compared to other places in the area. Overall, I had a great experience at Le Grenier de Notre-Dame and will be back on my next trip over! read more

Great little vegetarian restaurant right near Notre Dame cathedral. It's a small place, but is always full because the food is fresh and great quality. They have everything from basic soup to vegetarian/vegan platters. Their fresh juices are simple, but delicious. I mean you cannot ever go wrong with carrot and ginger, in my opinion. We discovered this cozy & adorable restaurant while walking around the Notre Dame area. The decorations inside are all green and covered in vine- it's a very earthy feel. The staff was all very friendly and welcoming. Completely vegetarian restaurant with some vegan options. The food was very flavoursome and the portions were large. I got the L'éscalope de seitan dish that came with vegetables and a salad type side and really enjoyed it. It had a lot of flavor. My husband had the Les Spaghettis A l'ail et au fromage and he really enjoyed that as well as a meat-eater. We dined at Le Grenier de Notre-Dame last week. As vegetarians, being able to choose anything on the menu was a welcome relief from the meat heavy menus of Paris. The restaurant is just around the corner from the Seine and the Shakespeare and company bookstore but is itself located on a quiet side street. It was open early enough (6:30pm) and service was quick enough for us to eat and make it to an 8pm show at Theatre du Chatelet. The atmosphere was lovely and the waitress was very friendly. I can't remember our appetizer- I'll add it when I remember but for a main course I had the Assiette Royale which included Quinoa, vegetables, and poached eggs. It was pretty good but the eggs were very overcooked- having runny egg yolks as poached eggs are supposed to probably would have made it great, . My husband had the vegetable cous cous which he thought was pretty good but not amazing. This is coming from two people who eat out a lot in Los Angeles where there are many competing, creative vegetarian and vegan restaurants and a lot of cous cous so we are pretty spoiled and picky. But in Paris we were very happy to find this place and their salads look amazing, I would like to go back to try one. read more

We've been walking around Paris sampling vegan food options for several days, we discovered Le Grenier de Notre Dame this afternoon and it is definitely our favorite. We arrived 3 minutes before the kitchen closed at 2:30, but the gracious staff seated us and took our order quickly. We took the servers recommendation for popular vegan dishes, and we were not disappointed - the two plates they prepared were extraordinary. So good that we decided to return in the evening to try their 5 vegan cheese plate. Enjoying that now, I cannot overstate how good it is. We have tried 'a LOT' of vegan cheeses (albeit in the US, not France), and the flavor and refinement of Le Grenier's are unsurpassed. This place is a treasure, great staff great food great location and vibe. Not sure why it's so hard to find a salad in Paris that has a ton of vegetables, but it is. But not here. A local tour guide made the referral and I was so glad he did. Yes! There is good vegetarian and organic food in Paris! I love Paris restaurants, but I live in Northern California. I'm used to (and I enjoy) food variety. I have raised my children on organic food almost exclusively with an emphasis on fresh vegetables and small portions of meat. Just when we thought we were going to turn into bœuf ou canard, we stumbled across Le Grenier...... Nourriture biologique et végétarien! We jumped for joy! We were there at five minutes to closing and they were packed. They still squeezed us in, and we weren't disappointed. They even had organic wine... and it was good too! The service was great and the price reasonable. I've paid much more for organic food at restaurants in Berkeley, Marin county and San Francisco with worse service. We found this place by accident, we really wanted to go to Hank burger, when we realized we got off the bus way too early we then search out this restaurant. So we were all hungry and a little cranky and not sure what to expect. Tiny little restaurant but I guess we came at the right time as there was no waiting . This is a real find. Whether you are a carnivore, vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free there is something for you. I have come twice and I'm sure I'll eat there a few more times before my stay in Paris is over. I tried the cous cous the first time and was not bowled over by it but my dinner companions all raved about their meals so I gave it another try. This time I had the spaghetti aux gigembres, carrottes, et fromage which came with a small green salad. It was a deliciously seasoned rather large plate, and my dining companion had the Assiette Gourmand and said it was great. The service is very good for the few waiters in the cozy space upstairs and down. There are lots of interesting looking drinks of fresh squeezed fruits and vegetables. The tofu was under seasoned, and the rice and farro(?) were sauced the same. However, it was a good amount of food, and they don't charge for the water. *blush* This place is like walking down the street holding hands with your new beau only to run into your ex. Uncomfortable to say the least... I first went here way back in the 2008 vicinity while being swept up in my new-found love of Paris. I thought it was great. I was on a high from seeing Notre Dame at dusk and walking along the Seine while French lovebirds kissed in the shadows. I had stars in my eyes and my head was so full that what I was eating was an afterthought. This is what I attribute all of the great reviews of this place from tourists to. I'm now a "local". And, well, this place is suffering. The food is boring and comes too quickly. There is no oohing and ahhing as expected with a real Parisienne meal. There was so little effort in the food that I think it shrugged its shoulders at me. The primary issue is location. The place is overrun with tourists, so expectations are lower. There are limited (known) options for veg food in the area, so this is a solid "it'll do" when you've not eaten protein for a week. Vegetarians can subsist on baguette and fromage for only so long, you know. And the price tag here is on the border of outrageous. But you won't know that if you're a tourist and don't know where the good places are to go (hint: leave the tourist trap!!! head towards the 10th!!!) 1 point for the ambiance. 1 point for the fact that their bio/organic wine isn't horrible. Since we were looking for restaurants with more vegetarian choices, we thought this will be a good place to try. We felt the waitress covering too many tables. She came late to the table, brought soup and bread after the main dish. Never came to ask for water etc. We saw the other table person walking over to her for their needs. Now coming to the food, we felt that it is too bland. There was no salt, spice in the food. I understand that there are many types of customers. Love this place! We have gone every time we have been in Paris. Everything I have tried has been really good. I had seen this place on many must do vegetarian lists so we decided to give it a try the first time we were in Paris and it turned out to be really good. This is a really nice vegetarian restaurant in the Latin Quarter. Our server was very friendly and accommodating with our less than perfect French. i had another address for this place: 18 rue de la bucherie, rive gauche de notre-dame. it was the 3rd place i went to in paris for a vegan meal, the first two were closed. not a shocker. after many days of wine, bread, salad, espresso, i knew a full course meal was in order... its off a side street, super cute, and the staff is more friendly than a lot of other places. the food was good. not amazing. however it may have tasted amazing as it was the first non-makeshift meal i had in days it was french peasant food & macrobiotic. the tofu was good and they did a nice job with the eggplant/ aubergine. i'd go back but don't need to hit the spot multi times as it was pricey and not spicy - i love spicy. oh, they also had soymilk shakes on the menu which most places in paris don't even know what soya is :) read more

We first discovered this cozy vegetarian restaurant right around the corner from Notre Dame a couple years ago on our first trip to Paris. The food is so delicious and a great value. We have been back several times since. The menu can be a little overwhelming. I find its easier to order the dinner special. You get your choice of veg pate or miso soup, the main course and some dessert. Last time I was there I had the L'Éscalope De Seitan for my main course. The waitstaff are friendly and service is speedy. I can't wait to go back next time I am there. If you are a vegetarian like me you should put this on your list of places to dine. read more
