Came here twice in 2 days because holy crap it is amazing. This restaurant is located right on the beachfront in the middle of the Nice coastline - if you're walking along the beach from the side closer to the airport this is one of the first restaurants you'll meet. I saw so many people stare at the menu and walk away and I so badly wanted to yell at them 'no, you /must/ eat here, it's amazing!' The first time I had a special menu item the crab avocado salad for 15 euros. It was SO fresh and in ample portion. The avocado was creamy, and the house mayonnaise was delectable and not in too large quantity. The crab was also very fresh and didn't have any fishy taste at all. If they happen to have this when you walk by, I'd definitely recommend it - it's a nice refreshing lunch. The house rose was also a nice touch. They have several tables outside with parasols - I really recommend it as you have a nice view of the pristine waters of Nice. The second time I had the mussels which come in a scrumptious truffle sauce with fries on the side. The portion was ENORMOUS. As one person I ate 2/3 of it and was bursting at the seams. The mussels themselves are small (about 2/3" - 1" in diameter), but very fresh - again no fish taste. It's the sauce that makes the dish. The fries are thick and has a nice crisp on the outside, fluff on the inside. Definitely recommend this as well for 19 euros it's a steal in France. The complimentary bread is also amazing - a very traditional hard crust on the outside and soft fluffy amazing bread on the inside. They'll provide you with some pats of butter if you ask. Service is amazing - as always ask if they speak English first before assuming that they do out of courtesy (although they do). Fast and efficient and pleasant. read more

I highly recommend this restaurant if you are in the Nice area. I was first attracted by the romantic decor but I was extremely surprised by the quality of food. My husband had their fish soup and the muscles- both were extremely delicious. I opted for gnocchi and they were amazing. We arrived and it seems the bald man hated because he had no smile talked down so us and was very unpleasant and racist. He brought every table bread except us. I'm giving it five stars because the food exceeded expectations and the portions were large. This is the French Riviera and based on car/taxi service upon arrival, it's a shakedown. Some parts of Europe include tip and service sometimes reflects it. We walked on the Promenade de Anglais and stopped at several restaurants before choosing Koudou (African Antelope, not on the menu! Lol). It's Sunday night, extremely busy and waiter seemed a but harried as the night progressed, but still good service, once engaged, but it took awhile to get started. First thing first, their food is good (pricy but good) but their service is not as good (let's say it's "special treatment" mostly for non-french speaker aka tourist). Secondly their dinner open at 7pm, NOT 6pm. Someone please change that mislead operation hour! @_@ Ok, now is the details. I ate their twice when I was in Nice. The first time, I and my boyfriend went with grandma. Grandma is French and lives in Nice. It was her birthday so we went in for a birthday lunch. The reservation was made days ahead, they also said they would bake her a cake for her birthday. The birthday lunch went rather well if we exclude part of the server keeps making fun of the way we eat mussels with forks (according to the server, we should eat in French way which mean one should pick up the mussel by the shell. It's not hard to do and we mastered it at first try but to finish the big plate of mussel with that method is to torture your fingers). The food was good. I and grandma had the sole dover and it was delicious. The mussels were also very good. However, my boyfriend's steak and the escargot is alright, not bad but nothing special. The oyster is fresh and good. Another minus point in service is that after lunch, we waited more than 45' for grandma's birthday cake (maybe they just start baking the cake when we finished lunch). We don't know if there was any special day the day we had lunch but every woman and girl in the restaurant was given a rose but somehow they "forgot" to give one to me or grandma until I asked while we were waiting for the taxi. Since I'm in love with the dover sole here, despite the pricy menu, I and my boyfriend decided to go back for dinner. Yelp says Le Koudou open at 6pm, so we be there at 5:50pm so that we can catch the last bus home. When we're there, they only open at 7pm everyday so we have an hour wandering not too far away from the restaurant with our empty tummies in the cold autumn ocean wind. When they finally open at 7:10pm, we were the first to come in and also the first to order. After that, several other customers come inside but we're still remain the only english speaking customers. This time, there's only 3 occupied tables in the whole restaurant and all these 3 tables are next to each other. Though we were the first to come in and order, the two other tables got serve first with water and bread. Even their orders came out and are served before us. Also, though I order the dover sole, the fish doesn't taste the same delicious as the firs time. All in all, I would say 2 stars for service and 3 start for food because it's pretty pricy and depend on what you order, the food can either be good or so so. read more

This is really an excellent restaurant which is located smack dab in the middle of the Nice beach front promenade. I came here during lunch, and the view was devastatingly beautiful. I wound up ordering pasta, which was pretty good. We also had a large bouillabaisse to share, which really seems to be a regional specialty, since I saw this dish all over the place in France. I also had a really good creme brulee at the end of lunch, and coupled with good service and good prices, I thought this was an great choice. For the best dining experience, definitely come here for lunch, order a wine with whatever you get, and make sure to bring your camera for taking photos of the beach. read more

Le Koudou was amazing!! The food was spectacular and had a great variety of options for vegetarians and meat lovers alike! We had the warm goat cheese salad, the French onion soups, and the spring risotto. Everything tastes delicious and the state was very knowledgeable. This is by far my favorite restaurant in Nice, France. We were looking for a place to eat near the promenade and happened to come across Le Koudou. First off, there aren't any workers standing outside trying to lure you in by handing you menus (those restaurants always turn out to be the worst!) The amazing service, atmosphere, and cleanliness all made for a better dining experience. Not to mention, the food was so tasteful! We had to come back twice in order to have the frog legs and oysters all over again! I highly recommend those two dishes as well as the mussels and salmon. For dessert we had the fresh apple pie and chocolate cake- both of which left us licking our fingers! If you're ever in Nice and are looking for a place to dine after a day at the beach, make sure to stop by Le Koudou! read more

Disappointed at best. Though the reviews shouted amazing, the meal was underwhelming and unsatisfying. We ordered the goat cheese salad and did not experience what others claimed it to deliver. I had a steak, and though I asked for medium rare, I got well done and my wife ordered calamari salad which came greasy and sans the salad. She was extremely upset and though only ate two bites they made no attempt at rectify the situation and left it on the bill. With all the options here in Nice, this was a mistake. read more

My bf and I decided to pick a restaurant for dinner by walking around the promenade, we came across Koudou Lounge, we walked inside to oversee the menue and decided to eat here, from the beginning the service was extremely helpful, nice, and energetic. My boyfriend and I decided to try a new city casualty dish in every place we travel to, so being that we are visiting France we decided on the Frog Legs- we had no idea what to expect, and to our surprise it was one of the best dishes we have tried in France, or anywhere quite frankly. The view was beautiful and the food was very good. I had the lobster risotto and, given the chance, I would've gone back to the restaurant just for that. Service wasn't quite as friendly for us being English speakers, but not poor service by any means. I can't believe this place is categorized as fast food. Definitely not a joint to grab a quick meal. I had the platter with oysters, razor back clams, shrimp, and sea snails. Amazingly fresh and delicious in their own rite, the sauces provided were nice, mayonnaise based and a house cocktail sauce which was my favorite. The reason for reserving the 1 final star is that the staff actually brought me the wrong dish. I pointed on the menu and had the waiter repeat back my order which contained the word lobster. Homard. Yelp did me wrong with this suggestion! We were staying a block or so away and it was our last night in Nice. We wanted something really close and we knew that we were risking a touristy place with bad food. We should have known better! Our least favorite meal of the entire trip. Lackluster servers, the food was boring and they offer too much on the menu, so you know they can't get it all right. The only plus was sitting out on the sidewalk and watching the tourists walk by. On our first trip to Nice France our friend sent us to Le Koudou. After learning the location of the restaurant we were afraid it might be touristy and not authentic French, but were proven wrong. We were so impressed with the food and service. It was a limited menu with the wine pairing included. The food presentation was very well done and the wine was outstanding with the food. The restaurant is amazing. The décor is beautiful, the ambience is amazing, and the staff are friendly. The food was divine. Absolutley wonderful. However, this is not a fast restaurant. The speed is slow and solid for a nice evening out. Be careful when you go though, because during the summer (as when I went) the restaurant is quite hot and you should try to sit outside. The worst restaurant ever......period.....also beware if you take your kids along, extremely rude staff- one of the waiters put up a fight with a couple we saw with kid just because they ordered a pasta sauce.....as if they committed a crime....they had a kid with them and this guy created a scene in front of all the people.
