    Cured fishes, cod.

One of the best small-plates meals we had in France. We had lunch outside under the umbrellas, with periods of light rain. This was after a 3 hour walking tour of Nice including treks up and down hundreds of flights of steps to see the old castle. Needless to say we worked up an appetite. We started with light white wine and proceeded to order many small plates including the assortment of cured fish, the friture of the day (which were little fish lighted fried), cod fish acras, mussels cassolette, white fish ceviche, grilled octopus, grilled corn on the cob, sweet potato, and roasted whole sea bream (which may have been our favorite). Everything was fantastic. The service was attentive and helpful. Our table was good for people-watching, as they say.

I could take it or leave it off my to go to resto list because this was the attitude I got from the service staff. My waitress (the heavy set one) was impatient and left me with a lack of interest to order more. My beef with this seafood restaurant is it's NOT cheap so give up the attitude of a one buck chuck shop. Scallop ceviche starter was 17 Euro ( basically one scallop sliced thin). Good but more is expected at this price point. The artichoke mousse had an indistinguishable taste and had a weird artificial aftertaste. No ambiance. Staff are in t-shirts. I recommend coming, if you must, for their weekday lunch menu for 20 euro except for holidays.

Food. Service. Location. All great. Excellent choice for fresh, nicely prepared fish. Their wine selection is also well paired with the food choice. Be mindful, the portion sizes are smaller but enough to keep you satisfied. The ambience is lively and they're located near the main downtown area in Nice. Loved it.

Giving this place a 3 star rating not because of the food quality but because it did not really compare to other places we tried in Paris and Nice. We were hoping for local Nice dishes, but they were mostly seafood and Japanese fusion food. I'd greatly recommend the clams cooked in wine. The tom yum fish was also really unique. (also my partner got the fried chicken: TBH I knew I would regret it. I don't know why I did it. Don't do that. Just suck it up and eat the seafood even if you're not a seafood person. You'll have less regrets.)

Fantastic food, I'd recommend making a reservation beforehand though because it's very busy. Some tables are on the side of the road and it's a bit slanted but we didn't reserve ahead so we didn't get a good pick for tables. Even though our seating area wasn't optimal, the food is just amazing that you end up not caring .. Highly recommend!

Some dishes were good like the tuna sashimi snd some less as the shakshuka with rice, eggs and octopus. It was just ok and not much flavor. Service was not amazing and actually one served was not friendly as soon as we arrived.

Looking for seafood in Nice and checking with the bib gourmetan list, peixes was open and available. First off, they do not take reservations and are first come first serve. We ordered nearly everything on the menu. Everything was good but nothing mind blowingly great. We started with oysters which were all fresh, served with a slice of lemon. For the ceviches (which were more of crudos), we did the scallop and octopus/sea bream. Scallop was soft and tender with a nice pompgranite and orange glaze. The octopus/sea bream in more traditional lemon citrus. Sashimi the bonito was fine. Nothing special but not anything better quality wise that i couldnt get at the fish marlet at home. Clams were great in an excellent white wine sauce. However, the clams were pretty tiny and maybe only 20 total. A little sparse but lots of flavor. We shared the pollock, octopus, and tempura chicken as mains. Tempura wasnt any different from a chicken karagge. Octopus couscous was faily bitter and unenjoyable. The pollock had good flavor and would order again. All in all, abit disappointed but food in Nice over all has been pretty disappointing. If you are in the area try it, but if you need to wait, likely move on.

It amazes me just how few reviews there are for Peixes. My party came for the food which I tasted and was fabulous. I came for one thing, the Oysters Fine de Claire No 3. I personally believe that the best Oysters come from France. I'm proven right with every visit. I have read alot about these Oysters and everything I read was true. The first thing is pass on the cocktail sauce, horseradish, or vinegrettes. Try it alone or with a few drops of lemon. I opted to enjoy them alone. Every oyster confirmed what I already expected. Heavenly! You can taste the environment they were cultivated in. The sea salt, an earthy nuttiness and soft flesh. If you are an Oyster liver like me. You will not miss this fine opportunity in Nice.

Perfection. Perhaps the most flavorful meal I have ever ate!!!! All of the different flavors blended well together. The ceviche was served in passion fruit juice with peppers for a little kick. The meringue was served inside a lime! What presentation! It tasted like a mojito! I thought the portions would be too small but it actually was super filling! I also had a mocktail which really tasted like a cocktail. If I hadn't read "sans alcohol" on the menu, I would have never known it! They serve plenty of real alcohol too! Ambiance was beautiful. Theme was ocean-themed in the restaurant which fit well for the seaside city. Lighting was warm and welcoming. Both indoor and outdoor seating is offered. Two servers checked on me frequently to see if I needed anything. Service was on point! I was never left needing anything. This is officially my favorite restaurant!!!!!

Amazing ceviche, best place in Nice for lunch hands down! We ordered the lunch special with a side and dessert. Great amount of food, both ceviches were delicious. The whitefish had an umami, spicy flavor profile. The scallop ceviche was more fruity and tangy. The almond dessert was so delicious as well, I believe it was an almond cake with strawberries. Next time I am in Nice we will define be coming back. This place is a must try!

This was the best meal we had in Nice - you must go and it's worth the wait! We ordered 2 mains (both ceviches), a side and a starter. They also provide bread and hummus. The side of patatas bravas helped round out the meal and made it a bit more hearty, otherwise I think we would have needed another dish. I have not stopped thinking about the scallop ceviche. The scallops melted in your mouth, but not before treating it to sweet heat from the passion fruit and chilies. One thing I wish they had: merch! I would have totally bought a t-shirt, tote, literally anything with that cute fish logo.

One of our favorite meals during our trip to Nice. Absolutely delish. The oysters are like none Ive tasted before. The ceviche and fried chicken are a must. Excellent service. The line goes quickly so don't be intimidated.

The server we had was a bit rude, but the food was amazing I think probably my favorite meal during our 4 day stay in Nice so I would definitely come back. If you're looking for seafood, this is the place. We had sea bream ceviche, oysters and tuna tartare. They started the meal with bread but it was a croissant type bread instead of the classic baguette, it was delicious. My only Rec would be that the tables are small so if you plan to order multiple items order them in 1 or 2 because they bring everything at once and it makes it difficult to eat with all of the things on the table at once. The oysters are amazing!! Must try!

Great meal in France!…read more This was a fantastic first dinner in Nice right off the main drag. We had reservation for 7pm and arrived a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes while they prepped our table and we were seated promptly. The vibe was cool, very French cafe feeling on the streets. The waiters were kind and attentive was you settled in. They patiently answered all our menu questions. We ordered the fois gras (because when in France), the duck and the octopus. All the food was excellent, the fois gras was perfect (although probably wouldn't order it again for ethical reasons). The octopus was absolutely perfect, very very easy to screw up, but they nailed it; every bit melting in our mouths. The duck breast was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfect. All the dishes were served with plenty of accompaniment. Great meal for a great French experience. Would highly recommend.

Maybe not fair for them, but on our previous night, the previous chicken dinner was 5 stars for her. I got the beef stew over gnocchi. Not bad, but even for a light eater, it was NOT enough food for me?!?! Got a glass of Bordeaux which was good, until I noticed the locals got twice as generous of a pour?!? The second time I noticed this while dining out... Happy for them, but to see the inconsistency affects me... Ambiance - Small local business/restaurant. Prime tourist location/area. Plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. One unisex toilet. Service - Welcoming. Made online reservations, but because we are NOT tech savvy, it booked the wrong time. So since we were in the area, we just walked by and asked them to change the time and had no problems. Price - 49 Euros, $57 USD. Expensive for what we got IMO. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

I was sooo looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, I was left with cheese on my face (sorry no eggs here, only cheese, cheese, and more cheese). We arrived a bit early for our reservation (15-20 minutes), but we were seated immediately, which was nice; the table was stuffed into a corner, but at least we were seated. Unfortunately, that was about where the niceness ended. The restaurant is supposed to be housed in a former cheese cave, which I thought would be exciting and romantic, instead it was just hot and cramped. This is one of those restaurants that tries to accommodate as many diners as possible, so we were basically eating right on top of another couple (who were incredibly displeased, even stating, "this service is abysmal"). We could literally hear every word spoken up to two tables away, so don't expect to have any privacy, except from the servers that is. Service was unpleasant and extremely minimal. Our server took our food and drink order, delivered our drinks, another server apologized for the delay in receiving our meal, and our original server delivered our meal...and that was it. They didn't refill our water bottle, ask if I wanted another glass of wine, stop by to see if we liked our meal -or needed else (which we did), or even bring a check. After waiting too long for our check, table full of finished plates and empty cups, we eventually just got up and headed upstairs. Apparently you're supposed to head upstairs to pay, but we'd have never known since our server was doing they're best David Copperfield impression. Now for the food. The kitchen was tiny tiny, so it's no wonder the menu consists of cheese for the starter, cheese for the entree, and cheese for dessert. Sprinkled in-between the assortment of cheeses was a steak masquerading on the menu as "Aubrac Bib", whatever that means, and the Tartiflette, think pork belly scalloped potatoes and the only thing you should order here. The Tartiflette was microwave-lunch small, but it was hot, rich, and pretty meaty for the size. I got the Camembert (takes 30 minutes) and it was pretty awful as a meal. It's not even really a dish. They literally opened up the wooden wheel of cheese, peeled back the paper, sprinkled a few things on top, then baked for 30 minutes, so it was more of just a cheese dish. It arrived-paper still covering the top, and was served with some under-seasoned fingerling potatoes and a salad. The salad was good and potatoes were okay, but the cheese was so one-note, it needed meat or veggies to dip in it. Unfortunately, I only had the few potatoes and two small bits of baguette to dunk, so my only option was to eat it like soup, which I did not-so half remained wasted and uneaten. We would have liked to have eaten dessert, but after the poor meal, and lack of even offering dessert, "How could we?". I'm giving 2 stars for the Tartiflette because it was delicious. I would not return and DO NOT RECOMMEND.

The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later.
