    Part of Tomato course

I dined with my wife and we were not compensated in any way for the meal or this review. Le Mousso takes an unconventional approach to Price-Fixe fine tasting; it's not stuffy. Each course of the tasting is served when the kitchen is ready, to all of the 20-30 diners. The staff wear white t-shirts under dark denim aprons. The extremely high quality and consistency of mis-en-place, sauces and garnish placement was notable. Further departing from fine dining standards, front of house and kitchen staff all participate in table-side service for each course. Sometimes Antonin explains the dish from a perch, other times Chefs come table-by-table to develop their front-of-house skills. We enjoyed the opportunity to engage with the kitchen staff! Chef Mousso clearly cares deeply about mentoring and his staff and the kitchen works smoothly and quietly (other than the joyful 'Pair!' or 'Saaaante'). We were offered a wide range of wines and spirits by Maestro James, including a coastal Japanese sake, a Columbian unfiltered meade, a Canadian sauvignon-blanc, a German riesling, and several others. Each time, the balance of flavor, acidity, and sugar matched perfectly with the dish. Several courses were served over ice to maintain temp, others used a broth/sauce for warmth. We did not experience warmed plates... which may be a reflection of the dining approach or their streamlined kitchen; an opportunity for the kitchen to further raise the bar. Lack of a deep wine-cellar may also be considered a departure by Michelin, however we felt the pairings were right on target. We will gladly return when next in Montreal. I would hope Le Mousso receives Bib Gourmand next year. Even if it doesn't, the experience was worth the price. Course Highlights: The Asparagus dish, with delicate oysters, a fine cremuex, and an aspagarus jus was a standout hit both visually and to the palate. The flavor complexity along with fresh ingredients and varied textures was a lesson in nouvelle cuisine. We also loved the stonewear the restaurant uses, from a local potter in Quebec. The Tomato dish, which had flowers and tomato on a shrimp-flavor infused milk-toast briquette which we dipped into a tricolor sauce centered around a rustic shrimp chau-mushi in a deep dish bowl. Underneath the chau-mushi was an additional thick dark sauce adding a smokey sesame flavor. I almost licked the bowl it was so good. The lobster two ways, first as a ravioli in a green brodo poured at the table, and secondly smoked tail meat on a natural pine-tree-branch skewer. The ravioli was served hot (one of the only menu items at such a temp) and was marvelous. The skewer was good as was the grill and smokey flavor, but lack of temperature in the meat made it less appealing to me. The Amuse Bouche included three elements; all were very tasty and well prepared, if slightly oversized. Tiny flower decorations clue you into the level of detail in the food. The fresh scallop en-shell was the standout for me.

Food was wonderful, as good as we remember from our first visit (pre-COVID). We were a bit surprised by the change in service approach, where each course and wine pairing was explained to everyone at once, in French and English. Though it seemed strange at first, t it did create a feeling of camaraderie with the other guests as the courses progressed. The rationale for the change was to keep servers safer during COVID (less standing table side), and one seating enabled all staff to have a better quality of life as they were not working so many hours per week. I would have liked to have taken a closer look the wine labels as the wine was poured, but they were all lined up at the host stand as we were leaving. I was glad a half pour option was available.

My husband and I love tasting menus so it was only fitting to dine at Le Mousso on our first night in Montreal. Everyone arrived slightly staggered on purpose and enjoyed a cocktail while we waited for everyone to arrive (that cucumber drink was unreal). Like a show, the meal began at the same time for everyone with the chef describing each dish as we went along. Even though we didn't interact with the other patrons, it was neat experiencing the meal together with 20 others throughout the night. Everything was described in French (rightfully so) but they made sure to come over to our table afterward to translate everything into English. I'm also pregnant and they were more than accommodating with delicious mocktails, described what was in each course and made sure the meat was cooked through. I was very impressed and appreciated of the high level of service we received! Then the food - wow! We tried some very unique combinations and tasted a variety of local ingredients which is always fun when traveling to a new destination. We had 8 savory courses which were heavy on the seafood (my favorite!), 2 dessert courses and then finished with 3 dessert bites. I was very full but very satisfied with our meal! We've dined at several Michelin restaurants and kept saying Le Mousso was competitive was many 1 stars that we've been to. Michelin hasn't traveled as far north as Montreal (only to Toronto) but if/when they do, they need to discover Le Mousso because the chef is certainly deserving of the accolades! His creativity is unparalleled.

One sitting per night for 30 people, 250$ per person plus the option for a full wine pairing or half wine pairing. My boyfriend took me here for my 30th birthday and to celebrate wrapping up a month in Montreal for work. It was UNREAL. I have never experienced a culinary evening like that before- it was a real journey of food and every single bite was unique, creative and delicious. The chef and sommelier explain each dish as it's served. While obviously a pricey night out, to us it was worth every penny and something we will never forget. For a special treat, I would HIGHLY recommend. Thank you le mousso for one of the most magical nights ever!

When we were making reservations for this place we were unsure of what to expect. They have a limited capacity per night and reservations are only available at two times: 6.15 and 6.30pm. We later found out that this was so diners would enter in a more staggered pace vs all at once, but the entire dinner begins at the same time as a grand presentation for everyone. It was very funny and cute arriving at the restaurant. When we got out of the uber, we could not find the restaurant. Then, I hear a voice yell out "LE MOUSSO???" and I turned to see a gentleman waving us over who I later found out was the chef and owner of the restaurant (if this isn't super cute I don't know what is.) He was so excited and explained to us to the run-down of the evening. We were then escorted to our table by one of the staff, Leslie, who also happened to be their sommelier. Each course is brought out to each table at the same time by the entire staff and introduced by the chef in both French and English. Our menu that night: starter - cotton candy foie gras lollipop - light, textureful, melting middle (they tell you to eat it in one bite and you dont think you can but you CAN) huitre - poached oysters in cucumber soup - creamy, savory, paired with a "crouton" with baby asparagus cream asperge - asparagus w razor clam and mussel, using the last asparagus of the season oursin - sea urchin turned into cream, caviar atop, on brioche, with vinaigrette, hazelnut oil and maple syrup. this was definitely one of my top fav dishes of the evening omble - sous vide arctic char smoked hay, peas, onion oil sanglier - 3 wk aged wild boar, porcini mushroom stuffed w sausage stuffing, black garlic (might have been my favorite. that porcini mushroom was to die for) homard - lobster, burnt chive flower, bone marrow foam, horseradish leaf, capers canard - duck breast, fermented plums, rhubarb, burnt strawberry dusted w pepper, donut fried in duck fat stuffed with foiegras (um, yes??????) miel - ice cream bar of milk parfait, honey, chamomile, and cocoa butter champignon - mushroom cocoa crumble molasses stout beer, candy cap mushroom, hint of maple mignardises - cream puffs (I forgot the flavor of cream filling they used) and some sort of wild gooseberry/blueberry turned into a jelly I personally had a wonderful experience because of Chef Mousseau's hospitality. It was truly refreshing to see someone so passionate about their work. I highly recommend this restaurant to everyone who loves great food, and wine.

Everything about this place is amazing! Service was top notch. Very knowledgeable staff, which is what you expect from a restaurant of this calibre. Very modern vibe and interesting table service! Music was to my liking as well. We will return to try the Summer Season menu. Merci!

8.5/10 This place was not just a dinner, it was an experience from start to finish. I had never eaten at a restaurant where the chef was this intentional about the ingredients, plating, and overall dining experience. The flavors were experimental and the wine pairings complimented / enhanced everything. This dinner was one I will never forget. It was definitely expensive (~$400 with the wine pairing), so it is likely a restaurant I would only recommend experiencing once.

A great tasting meal at Michelin quality! It is seafood heavy and definitely hit the spot for me! Price is very reasonable for this quality! 150/person (Canadian dollars!) Le Mousso is innovative, a depth of flavors and well balanced! I was so ready to write this place off because the reservation process was slightly irritating. I booked this about a month in advance and had to call to make the reservation. The staff was polite but be aware they will easily try to push you to their sister restaurant next door which is a la carte and not a tasting menu. I had to repeat multiple times that I want to eat at Le Mousso and not something else! We were kinda put off by this and almost wanted to cancel but luckily we did not! The food was amazing! This meal is 90% seafood but even the vegetables and meat (we had duck) were cooked and flavored perfectly! THIS is what I imagined Noma 2.0 seafood season would be but got extremely disappointed at Noma's one note flavor profile! Le Mousso does what Noma was unable to do with their seafood meal! They enhance each seafood instead of overpowering it with weird ingredients that sounds nice but taste horrible! My favorite were the grilled lobster on a stick! It had the perfect smoky flavor and the sauce balanced the lobster well. The most memorable was the tuna in raspberry shoyu sauce which was super refreshing! The uni, caviar and hazelnut was very unique and worked well especially with the endive! The peas 3 ways with saffron chip and egg yolk was amazing, fun and crazy appetizing! The bread with aged whipped butter was so good! Crunching outside, tender and soft inside and hot - how bread should be served! It came with a rose water whip to clean your hands after. The cod was perfectly cooked and so tender! The trout was probably my least favorite but still cooked well but slightly more salty than I would like. I thought the seafood would be the highlight but they seem to also really impressed me with the duck and mushroom! The mushrooms were cooked to a crunchy yet tender texture which I have never encounter before. The duck was seasoned well and was so good! The deserts were a good finish but I was so blown away by the seafood and duck, I thought the desserts were overshadowed. Another plus is that they offer half pour wine pairing which is great for the Asian glow people like us. It's 55/person for 1 oz pour instead of 85/person for 2 oz pour. I felt she was pretty generous with the pour - I almost couldn't finish all the alcohol! FYI for parent, they allow kids (my girl was two) but will be very persistent in trying to convince you to go to their sister restaurant instead. Make sure to call and let them know if you are bring your child. No high chair. The environment is upscale yet relaxing with moderate dance music to cover any minor unwanted noises . Must try if you plan to come to Montreal!

Every so often you go to a place with absolutely no expectations, but come out surprised. One of the more well cooked balance seafood tasting menu I've had. Few options for wine pairing $55 for an ounce or $80 for 2oz. The dishes, only highlighting the ones I admire Shrimp gazpacho so clean to start the meal of and setting that seafood taste for the rest of dinner. Of course you had to follow with a little veggie in the way of grilled, blanched and raw peas combine giving you the char the crunch and the cooked taste. Lobster on a stick not much else to say right?!?!?! and what do they do with the better half of the lobster? Of course they purée the guts and make a broth with chunks of claws. Tuna with raspberries was an added dish. Beautiful presentation dark red and the contrast of the raspberry to show the tuna. Little soy and slice thin to perfection. Duck was fantastic tender and the combination of the mushroom. Every bite you get that awesome smoke and not dry. Wine pairing worth it, I think the $55 is not bad couple wines are pretty good. I'm not a wine connoisseur. So that's for someone to find out and tell us. If I'm ever back in Montreal, I know where I'll be dining. Until next time. repas délicieux

Le mousso is currently doing takeout for covid-19. We ordered their thanksgiving menu and 28 day menu this week. I love the unique flavor combo's, platting and use of techniques and I wasnt sure how they would be able to replicate this as a takeout menu. Le menu's they have created are extradordinary and with just a little of preparation at home deliver just as good a meal as being in their restaurant. The only thing missing is their ambiance and service. The thanksgiving menu: -milk bread, very generous portion of 6 buns --chicken liver mousse green salad with curry mustard dressing - most inventive vinagrette I've had in a while! -charcoal brocolli with fennel -squash salad -cornbread with whipped honey butter mixture -Dauphinois patatoes with incredible creamy fine herb sauce- one of our favorite dishes! -tuna and daikon shaped as a rose with a soy dipping sauce - beautiful! -poultry ballotine with a supreme sauce -one dessert: chou pastry filled with cream and blueberries, The 28 day menu: -Tuna burger , so delicious! -tomato and sweet habanero salad -chips 2 desserts: white chocolate pudding and a cannele Highly recommend ordering from Le Mousso !!

4.5 stars (if I could) as the flavor palette for several dishes overlapped a bit too often, and the price (250 CAD) is the highest for any tasting menu in Montreal, while not being the best restaurant in Montreal (Bouillon Bilk would get my vote there). That being said, Le Mousso is still a treat and an experience, and a really solid fine dining option for Quebec at large. What I liked the most: 1) In 138 Michelin restaurants, I have never ever been to one in which the chef and the sommelier will come out and make a speech in front of all diners about every single dish and drink you are served. I loved the theatricality of this! 2) Some of the dishes are completely eye-gasmic. 3) Even more importantly, several dishes are completely taste-gasmic! The onion cream caviar dish was one of the most delicious dishes I have ever had anywhere. The lobster taco, the cotton candy foie gras on a stick, and the 1st dessert (I forgot the name though the milk cream/custard was infused with a smoky-ness that was amazing, especially for a dessert!), were also exceptional. What I liked the least: 1) We arrived on time for our reservation, and the first course did not get served until nearly 1 hour later. The reason for this is the meal couldn't start until all diners were present in the restaurant, as diners are all served each course simultaneously. Not only did this delay the start, but throughout the meal, we would wait and wait for slower diners to finish their courses. When some diners are seemingly more interested in conversing than eating, that especially becomes a bit annoying. 2) As mentioned earlier, some of the flavor palettes across dishes were too similar. Both of the desserts were similar white cream/custards (one milk focused, one corn focused), and I would have liked to try something different for the 2nd dessert (something fruity, or chocolate-y). Several of the mains also had the same savory bourguignon sauce/taste, and I'm not sure why each dish wasn't more unique. 3) Each dish that just had one stand alone item (a piece of meat, a piece of fish, duck) was lacking. Clearly, the chef's intent is for you to focus on that item (since there are no sides), but when that item doesn't blow you away, you end up eating one block of meat or fish that isn't that special, and wish there was more creativity and ingredients in the dish. Overall, this still gets 4.5 stars from me, and I don't regret eating here at all, I just wish Le Mousso did a few things differently to go over the top.

3* is given because of the price is way to pricey for what you get. This restaurant has been on my to go list for the longest time. I remember that when they opened a few years ago, their tasting menu was something like $65 or so. Now you need to pay $140/ person + $80 for wine pairing. Went there to celebrate my birthday and had high expectations. First 3 items on the menu (amuse bouche) was SOOOO good that I was really excited about the next dishes to come. Basically, my excitement stopped at the amuse bouche. Got served a scallop fish with some broth. They had cut a whole scallop into 4 slices and have us each 2 slices. Scallop was fresh so can't taste bad...there was nothing special to the broth except that it tasted very butter heavy. I can go on and on about the other dishes...really nothing special to them besides the fact that they are tiny. They are really one biters! And the wine...not even half a glass if given per pairing. Desserts were good...I guess the meal started and ended on a good note but nothing in between was worth mentioning. The worse is that they served bread and butter as part of one of the tasting menu dish! They are homemade but come on..:lots of restaurants serve in house baked bread with butter for FREE!!! Don't get me wrong...I'm not saying the food wasn't good. It was decent good but when you charge $140/person, you really expect it to blow your mind. Total for the night for 2 with wine pairing, taxes & tips included came down to ~$600. If money is no object and you want to give it a try, go ahead but if you simply want good food, then skip this place. Might be worth it for $70/person + $40 wine pairing but not more than that! I have been to much better restaurants and for a fraction of the cost.

OMG Wonderfull 12 services, very original. The staff is amazing and so friendly. Everything was good but I especialy like the the Bettrave et gras de boeuf, the smoke and grill lobster humm so good. A gem to discover. The Morue et chou fermentė the combination just perfect. One of the 2 dessert Miel Sarrasin was a big surprise. Le Mousso as an Urban style but its very simple. I think they can do a little bit better for the deco... For the rest im satisfied. Make sure to have a reservation was almost full a wendsday evening

Got to try some delicious food during my short weekend trip to Montreal Quebec…read more A friend organized a lunch for everyone before we all headed to the airport and funny enough this restaurant was in the hotel my friend and i stayed at. The restaurant was super quiet when we went as it was a Monday afternoon when most people were probably at work. The interior was quite elegant very clean and royalty looking. The service was 10/10. Waiter was very attentive and we could tell he paid attention to detail. He gave great food recommendations and definitely had knowledge of what's on the menu. Now as for how the food and prices were? Prices i'd say are pretty standard and reasonable. The squash soup was so yum and comforting. It had a puree texture to it. Good serving size. I would order it again! We obviously had to have some mimosas and yes we paired it with orange juice. The duck confit may have been a bit too much for me. Large portion and i couldn't even finish half of it. But it wasn't dry and the veggies had a nice crunch and the lentils were very filling and healthy. The flavour notes all went together but i'd definitely say the dish was more on the healthier side. The chicken supreme on the other hand .. although healthy it was still cheesy and buttery. Considering it was chicken breast it didn't even taste dry so i definitely appreciated that. The risotto paired with it was the star of the show! The restaurant takes resos online and they do have brunch on the weekends, happy hour menu looks promising. If i'm ever in town again and in the area i'd want to try their happy hour or chacuterie spread!

(Hotel restaurants, can be good/bad) We were definitely not dressed up which I was worried about but it wasn't an issue, we started with beef carpaccio and charcuterie, the pate was absolutely amazing as were all the cured meats. The beef carpaccio, was for me a little bland, I would have hit it with a touch of salt, but once you got a piece th at had balsamic drizzle it really opened it up and changed my mind. (I wish there was a little more of the balsamic. My husband had the Cornish hen, and I had the filet mignon, both were absolutely amazing, I even stole a little of his Bleu cheese for my steak. Steak was cooked perfectly, the sides were amazing. Our server was on point, his name was Pedro, I had asked him to send out a dessert privately and it was our 1 year anniversary, even though we were not dressed for the occasion as we were both exhausted from travel, We will probably be in for lunch tomorrow!

There are 2 sides of the restaurant: the more casual order what you want brasserie side and then the fancier multi-course chef menu side. I chose the brasserie side, where I had a reservation for a bar seat - turns out that wasn't really that necessary as there were several individual bar seats open; A group would probably have a difficult time getting a seat on a Friday evening though. For drinks, I had a paper plane and a last word. Those are my two go to cocktails for nicer bars, and they pulled them off fantastically (they also knew what I was talking about which is kind of rare for the last word). For an extra nice touch, they clipped an actual paper plane to the paper plane drink. Fun! For food, I ordered the Duck Confit. It was super crispy on the outside, but the meat was super tender and juicy and melted off of the bone. My mouth is watering while thinking about it. It also came with bread service. For dessert I had the tiramisu. I would give it a 4/5 - it was a little more bland than others I've had - not bad at all, but not my favorite one of all time. They seem to be serious about their coffee (see pictures). Since I was sitting right in front of it I had to order one to go with the tiramisu. I had a basic americano, and it was a great addition. My only real complaint is the bar seating felt a little bit exposed as the main walkway through the restaurant goes along the bar seating. Drinks 5/5, Service 5/5, Food 5/5, Ambience 4/5

We also had as appetizer their foie gras parfait and tomatoes from our garden. Both we wonderful choices. The tomatoes were perfect for the season with a beautiful balance of tomatoes, stracciatella and focaccia. Foie is a classic and loved the grilled bread and pickled vegetables to accompany it. Our entrees were the lamb rump, braised shoulder and butcher cut steak and frites which was the hangar steak. The lamb was delicious and very hearty in a good way. The steak was perfectly prepared and the frites stayed warm the entire meal with their presentation. We ended with their house fav passion fruit pavlova. Light and airy texture with lovely flavor. Nice way to compete the meal!

Dining at Bar George was one of the highlights of our quick 24-hour layover in Montreal. We stayed…read moreat Le Mount Stephen Hotel without doing much research on dining options, assuming we'd just find something nearby. But before even checking in, we had to walk through Bar George ~ and instantly knew we wanted to eat there. We were lucky enough to grab a last-minute reservation, and Julien took a good care of us throughout the evening. His recommendation of the Beef Wellington was spot on (it's already one of our favorite dishes), but this was hands down the best we've ever had. I ordered the lobster risotto, which was excellent with just the right amount of spice. My son had the 10 oz striploin steak with homemade fries (chips), and it was absolutely delicious. I also loved the Canadian touch of coarse salt on the steak, plus the option to choose between Béarnaise or peppercorn sauce. Julien also mentioned their pastry chef placed second in a NY competition, and the desserts absolutely lived up to that reputation. We tried the pineapple and coconut pavlova and the "lick me hazelnut" ~ both beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. We also ordered iced coffee and a latte, and noticed something interesting: this was the second place where we found Canadian coffee to be smooth and mild ~ such a nice change from the often bitter, over-roasted American coffee. Yes, dinner was a bit steep ($300+), but it was worth every penny. Between the rich history, stunning design, outstanding service, and unique cuisine, I would highly recommend Bar George. I would absolutely love to come back!!

I really enjoyed my meal here. I had just arrived in Montreal QC on a long haul flight, and…read morecouldn't check into my hotel yet and found this gem just around the corner. The matcha latte with almond milk really woke me up. And i was hungry and needing some vegan protein, since the airline food I got was mostly salad. Their braised tofu with a lovely optional creamy coriander sauce, and cooked with mixed vegetables absolutely hit the spot. It was served with warm fluffy basmati rice. The tofu serving was substantial, the braising sauce was very tasty, and the tofu was firm and chewy and filled with saucey flavor. The optional coriander creme sauce and fresh limes were a great complement to the braising sauce. Around me i could see servings of chili, their vegan poutine fries, and the chesesteak come out of the kitchen, and noticed other tables were also complementing their food. I finished with a tangy lemon tart slice and vegan whipped cream - very nice. The tables are fairly close together as it's in town center. They've got several two top tables. This was great for me as a lone traveler, as I easily struck up a conversation with the couple sat on the table next to me, and we had a great chat about how good the restaurant was and then everything under the sun. They were there to celebrate a birthday and the friendly owner who'd come over to talk to them a few times, sent them home with an extra dessert. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. I plan to go back during my week here and try some other dishes.

Big downside is that the bathrooms are not handicap accessible and you have to climb a flight of stairs to get up there.
