Part of a chain of French bakery/restaurants, Le Pain Quotidien is all about the bread and pastries. Not much of a breakfast menu, especially for those on Atkins. I went with the two soft-boiled eggs, which were perfectly cooked and extremely hot.Served with a small stack of dippy soldiers (thin sliced bread for dipping into the yolk). I don't know how they expect people to peel these eggs. Don't get me wrong, I love me a soft-boiled. But I think I might have burned off my fingerprints. On the table were three jars - nutella, apricot preserves and something in French that might have been blackcurrant preserves. All went nicely on the slices of baguette that came with my eggs. Specials board changes constantly with different mains, soups and desserts every day. Today the soups were a tomato bisque and gazpacho. Excellent coffee. Rather than a latte, I had a "pot" of coffee which was about two cups of coffee (with an interesting bowl rather than a mug) in a French press. Great "wake up" juice, this will cure what ails ya! Note: they have a couple of individual tables, but the center of the dining area is dominated by a very large table. Communal dining. Very Continental! All told, an excellent simple breakfast. I love Le Pain Quotidien. The only thing I don't love about it is my American self still can't pronounce it. I literally say to my husband... lets go to "Pain". Sad. Hahaha anyway. This place is wonderful. It's got wooden tables, soft lighting, pretty little lamps and a loooong table in the middle of the restaurant that multiple people can sit at but it still feels cozy and intimate. The food is also very tasty. They have multiple options for breakfast that makes it pretty difficult to decide what you want, but you can custom put together just about anything. I also really appreciate that they have their fair share of very healthy options- multiple salads that are humongous but very healthy, and light but delicious soups. The wait staff is also very kind. It can get very busy during brunch and lunch time, but we have never been neglected or pushed to make a decision. I've also fallen in love with their Matcha Latte... though I have a very difficult time believing they didn't add sugar- even though I asked twice. Ha! Another special thing about this Le Pain in particular, is the location. Walking up Marleybone high is a truly great experience, and Le Pain is just waiting to greet you at the end! read more

This is a lovely cafe and restaurant on Marylebone's trendy high street. It has a delicatessen and takeaway counter in the front with beautifully arranged items on the shelves, including some home-made preserves. A large cafe in the back serves some of the best food to be found in London. These include an unusual pear salad, sweet and a little bitter. Most of the desserts to die for... and the smoothies are also fantastic. I really like the atmosphere here, of a warm french cafe with a lot of light, wooden tables and interiors. Its always busy on the weekend, popular for brunch with the locals, so you might end up having to wait a while for a table. It is a little more expensive than most cafe's in London, but the quality is far superior. I loved the hot chocolate here, not too sweet and served in a cup that could be a soup bowl. read more

Our local friends told us we simply have to walk down this street for a fine breakfast place. Surely, we passed many of such, but Le Pain Quotidien attracted us the most, so we entered this little breakfast "boutique", styled with wooden walls which gives it a extraordinary atmosphere. At the moment you enter this location, you are caught by its comfy style, friendly staff and, especially, the food displayed on the counter. Surprisingly, the waiting time was just a couple of minutes. Alright, the menu offers too many awesome options on which I wanted to start at the top left and eat myself through to the bottom right. My choice felt on the mushroom toast and the Belgium waffle. The toast was awesome, the mushrooms gave a perfect balance. Also the Belgium waffle was a good decision. It was supersoft and the just a little bit bitter chocolate sauce mad this choice even more special. My friends choose the petit dejeuner, a fresh scone (wohoo!) and some other delicious brunch food. Even after the food, we just stayed a long time because it was so comfy. This little restaurant does not want you to leave and we neither felt a rush to leave here. I'm a recent convert to the joys of La Pain Quotidien and frequent the location in Notting Hill Gate, often just to grab coffee. I'd never been to this location before, but my friend wanted to come here as she works in the area and is obsessed with all things French and pseudo-French. We both ordered salad (mine was tuna, my friend's was smoked chicken), which came with a portion of really tasty French bread. Everything was really fresh with well-judged portion sizes. We left feeling full, but not stuffed, which was nice. This service was terrific. Our waitress was a sweet French girl who knew to leave us alone to chat and seemed to magically appear at all the right lulls in our conversation. Hopefully, she wasn't listening too closely to what we were talking about! read more

This cozy coffee and tea spot is a great place to take away the icy chill of the winter. They have a large selection of caffeinated drinks and fine breads. I love to sit inside and have a nice hot chocolate. They have a large communal table in the center of the room, where you can sit and enjoy a meal with other random guests. If you want some privacy, there are also other tables available to dine at. Their sandwiches are good, but not great. I love the apple crumble dessert and the raspberry lemonade. read more

The cafe/bakery looked so cozy with the wooden tables and with the fresh bred displayed so beautifully so decided to pop in there for lunch today. This Belgian place serves traditional bakery products like pastries and pies, and during lunch time sandwiches and salads. I ended up having salad with grilled vegetables that was fresh but nothing spectacular, and regretting that I didn't go for the sandwich option as having it made from fresh bread in London is a rare treat! Over sweeten desserts & amateur coffee The best description I can think of is 'food uniformity'. Everything not only looks, but also tastes uniform. I mean, if you like loads of sugar & carbs that's ok.. Even my plum tart offered that.. I felt over sweeten after eating just a half.. Not to mention, I was hoping to taste the really juicy, slightly sour plums with a hint of bitterness, but got none of that... The dominating taste was the superbly sugary pastry with a little crunch. Cappuccino was nothing special either. It wasn't strong, very milky and with way too much milk foam (more than a third of the cup). Service was super nice. read more

Usually I prefer cafes to be quite small but 'Le Pain Quotidien' has certainly made me rethink my view on large cafes. Whilst it holds a large number of people it still manages to retain the relaxed atmosphere which all coffee shops should have. And of course the most important thing is the coffee which i'm pleased to say is very good, I recommend the Machiatto. read more

A friend and I had arranged to meet for coffee at Nani's of Wigmore, but it was closing when we got there (5pm). We decided to try somewhere on Marylebone High Street, but as we chatted and walked down the street, we managed to walk all the way down and realised we'd walked past about a dozen coffee places, so decided to try Le Pain Quotidien. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the surroundings comfortable with furniture reminiscent of shaker style design. We sat at the long communal table and ordered large americanos and a cheese board. Our waitress enquired if we would be sharing and I answered in the affirmative. Our coffees arrived in soup like bowls - now I've had coffee in large cups, but these really were more like bowls. This meant our coffees cooled rather quickly so we weren't able to enjoy them. The cheeseboard held a delicious variety of soft and hard cheeses, but the portions were tiny and though the waitress had acknowledged we were sharing, there were only three pieces of bread for us to share. So the bread was quickly consumed, but much of the cheese remained and when we asked if we could have just a couple of extra pieces, the waitress threw us a sympathetic look, apologised and told us we'd have to buy more. Seeing as their speciality is bread, this was a little disappointing. I think Le Pain Quotidien is a tad expensive for the measly portions they provide, but they are tasty portions nonetheless. read more

It is nice if you don't mind sharing and sometimes, if you're lucky and it isn't too busy you can have a table for yourself (or your party). This location of the globally-growing chain is smaller than some of the others in London. They're all in busy foot-traffic locations, though, and so they're all as busy as this one is. We had to queue for about 10 minutes on a Sunday at 10:30am. If you're after bread then this is the place for you. I love bread, so a bread basket with lots of jams and other preserves and a large cup of coffee is a perfect breakfast. If fancier grain options like croissants or pains au chocolate or Belgian waffles or muesli and fruit or porride and honey are your thing, you're set. The fruit salad's good too. Like all the locations it's very open, loud, and there's a good chance you could be sharing a large table with others. Great for takeaway bread and pastry. If you're looking for carb-free options, look elsewhere. read more

I was greeted especially friendly, although I am packed with a load of stuff and am obviously a café laptop worker, the pot of coffee - basically two cups of an Americain - is good tasting and woth the price (2.20), and the chocolate square I am eating with it very dense and tasty. Busy at lunchtime, you might have to wait for a table, but you'll not have to wait long; the service is quick and efficient, verging sometimes on the hasty - one gets the impression that lingerers are not looked kindly upon. However, the place has a generally friendly ambience, no doubt helped by the long communal table taking up a good portion of the space - though there are also smaller, private tables. The food, though certainly a worthy lunch, isn't massively special; mostly bread-based, as befits the name - 'The Daily Bread'. They sell a range of preserves and breads as well as just serving them, and the prices aren't excessive. Overall, Le Pain Quotidien is certainly pleasant, and makes an agreeable change from simply grabbing a sandwich from Tesco's. But I wouldn't go so far as to call it special. read more

I love this place. Perfect place for breakfast or lunch. I usually get the spinach and ricotta pastry- delicious! The cheesecake is very good too (and I'm a cheesecake snob). My only complaint would be that it gets pretty crowded at lunchtime and you might have to wait for a table sometimes (however it never takes longer than 15 minutes). Also, the large coffee comes in a bowl, which is quite uncomfortable and also kind of weird. read more

This used to be my favorite place to eat. BUT they have changed their menu. They went from serving breakfast meals all day to now stopping it at 12pm. It was what made them special to me. Knowing you could get anything on the menu whenever! Oatmeal, eggs, salmon, pancakes, fruit salad and yoghurt. I asked if I could have a fruit salad it was 5pm they said no as its past 12pm, so saw in their take away section the had fruit salads for sale and If i could buy one and eat it there.They said no. I could buy it, but not eat it there. It's a very sad day. I reckon I have eaten here 2-3 a week for years for My business meetings and social. I am no longing going anymore, lost its appeal for me now. I saw people leave at the door as soon as they too discovered they no longer serve breakfast anymore. read more

This is a cozy cafe situated in the centre of Marylebone. Coffee is served in a bowl. Bread is fresh. Fruit Yoghurt is very yummy. Staff are slightly difficult to communicate with but great service. Going here when you're on a wheat free detox is not a good idea. Seems like their speciality is bread, bread and more bread and I couldn't touch a crumb. The smell of the fresh bread was delicious and utterly torturous for me. For starters I had a soup which was lovely but not very hot. This was followed by a main course salad which actually wasn't that exciting and I suspect the ingredients wouldn't have been very expensive yet it cost £8 which is their cheapest - they go up to £10.50. Don't think the menu at this branch is as extensive at other branches. Would like to go back and try the organic bread as that is supposed to be a winner. read more

This is a particularly good place to go for breakfast or lunch but expect to queue. It's child-friendly which is good or bad depending on your situation. They do fantastic breads, really good fruit, delicious pastries and the most amazing pastes made of chocolate, hazlenuts etc. They also do very good salads and it's easy to eat healthily but enjoyably at the same time. You can also buy bread, jams and spreads to take home. It's ok for a chain, better than most. I found the prices slightly on the high side for the quality and size of the portions. The coffee is not the strongest so I'm glad I added an extra shot to my cappuccino as it would've been undrinkable otherwise. The service was a bit hit and miss with one particular waiter just amblimg aimlessly around doing nothing.
