Menu en Francais!

We stopped here for a late lunch/snack after a brief visit to the nearby Pompidou. This area is flush with restaurant options and, generally speaking as folks with particular dietary interests (1 vegetarian and 1 gluten free) who like to do tons of research before stopping into a place to eat, we tossed aside that sensibility and thought, can any place in Paris be that bad? Well, it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't great either. I had a cheese plate. My general fantasy in life is to eat cheese in Paris and in this case the cheeses themselves were a bit of a let down. Not as flavorful as we wanted. Not our favorite cheeses and not much of an assortment. My wife enjoyed the plate of assorted vegetables, or salad she got, everything was fresh. The place was fairly empty when we arrived and we we asked to sit in the non-smoking section. They accommodated, but then our server, on her break, set just on the other side of the barrier from where we were seated and proceeded to smoke which had us wanting to leave as soon as possible. We wouldn't rush back here and with so many options next door and in every direction we don't think we'd have to.

Fois gras - delicious

We wandered into this cafe after much walking. It's an ok place but not overly wonderful. The fois gras was good I will say but the wine list isn't very extensive (at least for French standards). Wait staff is just ok. The boy had grilled sausage and fries (lord know why he orders like this). He usually cleans his plate of anything but this time, he left half the sausage and most of the melancholy fries. He was unfortunately, very displeased with his meal when I was content with my fois gras. We were not in meal equilibrium and he wanted to leave much sooner than our intended "long lunch" idea.

We came here as a group and absolutely adored the authentic food. If you come here I highly recommend Aligot! I ordered the seared tuna steak which was perfectly cooked with some amazing salad. My side was the aligot which was so GOOD that I kept talking about it the rest of my trip. The rest of of group ate meat dishes I'm not sure what they were but we all pretty much loved this place and highly recommend it. The location is also nice in a line of French restaurants where there are plenty of options

Tartiflette

Dined with colleagues and sat outside in the heated, enclosed patio. Chose a house special (plat du jour), Tartiflette (French-style cheesy baked potato dish with onions), and a French specialty: Hanger Steak (Onglet). House Merlot wine. Desserts were to die for...borderline decadent: a Moelleux Chocolat. Good value too at 31€ per person including VAT and service charge.

The potato aligot was so good with the crispy sausage. The sausage was not overly fatty and was perfect with the garlicy cheesy. The bone marrow was very rich. The French opinion soup was good.

So f&@ing good! While visiting, I was invited here and it was so so so tasty. The cheese is something we cannot get in the states. The meats as well. I had an amazing coffee and the French onion soup was the best I have had. Set in the coolest neighborhood which feels to be the equivalent of boys town for in Chicago.

Escargot

5 stars - Great location, not far from the Pompidou - Excellent French Onion Soup - Great Sangria 2-3 Stars - Escargot - "young beef" Stopped here in our question for something near the Pompidou and before heading over for a cruise on the Seine. Loved the location and seemed quite cute. We sat in the non-smoking section of the patio - and was thankful they had one. We quickly learned everyone smokes in Paris. Service was....eh. Forgot to bring the wife's Escargot until we reminded him. And to remind him, my wife, after several unsuccessful attempts to wave down the waiter, got up and grabbed him. There were several other Luke warm service items as well. The "young beef" - whatever the hell that is - is not something I recommend. And the Aligot - essentially cheesy mash potatoes - was not something I enjoyed. And I love cheese and I love mash potatoes. But the consistency of this dish was.....yucky. Best part - was on Rue Nicholas Flamel Road - which allowed us to take a picture for our Harry Potter/Nicholas Flamel loving daughter!

Sausage of the Aveyron & aligot (cheese and mashed potatoes). The aligot is tasty - thick and rich.

The service was nice. The waiters were very nice and tried to speak English as we also tried to speak French. The food lacked salt and pepper, but that was standard at most places we ate at. The beef carpaccio and French onion soup was our favorite meals out of the three of us. The bone marrow that came with the steak was also melt-in-your-mouth good! We loved sitting on the patio.

Food just comme ci comme ça, service quite inattentive and unfriendly, which seems to be the fairly standard in Paris. It should be 2 and 1/2 stars, hey YELP when are you going to implement this small change on mobile?

We ordered the Saucisse D'Aveyron Grillee with Aligot, and honestly, that Aligot stole the show.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

THE FOOD ------------------…read more= Fermier - Cheese gratin with chicken was good. Didn't blow me away, but was solid with the creaminess of the sliced potatoes and emmental cheese combined together with mixed vegetables. The cheese was very strong though, so anything else was unfortunately pretty much overpowered by it. Arrived with bread, but it DEFINITELY could use other carb options to sop it all up (e.g., rice???)! = Landais - Cheese gratin with duck. Same comment as the above, except the Landais had egg and goat cheese also mixed in with almost the same ingredients as the Fermier. THE SERVICE ----------------------- + The lone waitress, who also worked the role as greeter, cashier and bartender was friendly. + Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------------ = Small, tight restaurant. = Not many tables inside - 6 in total. + Located a few blocks away from the more touristy restaurants, towards the East, on a much quieter street. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS -------------------------------------- = Nada.

So many delicious escargot at au doux raisin that you won't regret going here…read more We ordered escargot, bone marrow, and beef bourguignon. The escargot. Wow. It's their specialty and it sure is special. I've never had escargot with this kind of flavor coming from the snail itself. It's a must have. The bone marrow was good too, nothing too memorable, definitely not like the escargot. The beef bourguignon was so good too. Tender beef and such good flavors. This was the perfect way to end our Paris trip.

We ordered a few dishes to share: - escargot was so flavourful, it blew our minds. This was the best snails I have ever hard. - foie gras - delicious!! - bone marrow - unlike other places, they didn't add a lot of sauces and etc. onto the bone marrow, but the taste was so fresh and delicious that you didn't even need anything else. Amazing. - beef stew - this was very tasty but we couldn't finish it so we take it to go. - sausage - probably my least favourite but still very favourful. Our server Olya was amazing, always checking up on us and making sure we were happy! She gave us a lot of recommendations which turned out to be amazing. She speaks French, English and Russian, which is a great asset which made communication and ordering very easy. Overall, this restaurant is a must visit for anyone who is looking for delicious homey meal.

THE FOOD ----------------…read more+ Six Snails from Burgundy - Very good! Unlike in the States, these escargot (as most in Paris) were served in their ACTUAL snail shells and they were addictively deeeelicious - like I can have 95 of them addictive! = Duck Breast - Duck was tender, but I thought it was just OK. The orange honey sauce made for a good dipper sauce, but without it, the duck was relatively ordinary. The aligot was quite cheesy and tasty though. = Chicken Supreme - Solid chicken and well cooked. String Beans were excellent! Like the Duck Breast, presentation was simple and elegant. However, for me personally, the chicken was OK. Nothing wow'd me on this dish. + Toasted Ham and Cheese Sandwich and Fried Egg, Salad - Good for what it was - a ham and cheese sammie with a fried egg. Definitely fancier than your stateside version - it wins that hands down. Bread was toasted and buttered very well, which to me, was the key to this sammie. THE SERVICE ------------------ + Alllll of the food came out very fast after we ordered. + All of the employees were super friendly to us, despite us not speaking a lick of French. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------- = Interior and exterior are tigggght. The interior consists of a 2nd level, which has a few tables. = Exterior has outdoor seating for what seems to be customary at most restaurants - people watching while day drinking. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS ------------------------------------- + We had a resy for 6:15 PM on a Saturday evening and were seated immediately, which is always a good thing. + Outdoor seating area was packkked, but there was always an open table or two inside.
