This was a random stop for a light dinner after a walk nearby. This diner certainly had a…read moreFrench-Canadian feel to it with smoked meat sandwiches etc. I ordered a small spaghetti (love that they had 2 sizes) and a small Caesar salad. The salad had a little more going on than a typical US diner Caesar salad. Instead of a flaked Parmesan style cheese they used a softer grated cheese plus there were good sized pieces of bacon or chewy pork in the salad. It was very interesting and flavorful. The spaghetti was good, served quickly and nice and hot. The sauce seemed like a bolognese style minus any dairy. I say that because it had finely minced carrots and celery (I think) in it which I've seen in recipes for bolognese but don't typically see in home or commercially prepared spaghetti sauces in the US. I would have appreciated some grated cheese on top of it or available to add myself but none was offered and I opted not to ask. Overall I think this is a good example of a mid-level cafe type eatery. Not fine dining but not a greasy spoon either.

I would definitely recommend the club sandwiches and salads. To be honest there isn't much in town but at least this place serves good diner-style plates that will leave you satisfied.

There was only one other couple dining. The french onion soup was ok... but everything else was great! I especially appreciated the warmth of the owner and of our server (Mary?). I'm guessing our experience was a little different than the 'norm' as far as being the only folks there - we closed the place - but it was amazing to have such attention (not hovering, just attentive and caring) and such a wonderful quiet atmosphere. (On night #2 we headed to another restaurant that had been very highly reviewed and were incredibly disappointed. We found our fellow patrons to be on the border of being offensive. Its the crowd, I get it... folks were up there to snowmobile, not necessarily fine dine. But, when you're having, and paying for a decent meal, its nice to hear your companion's conversation and not have it be peppered with f-bombs from the adjacent tables. OK, rant over) I guess I'm getting old. But, 5 stars for Pittsburg, definitely

Finally spoke to someone and was told she couldn't help me and to call another number. Called that, left a message and nothing. Drove 3.5 hrs to go to dinner and was told they couldn't help me as they only had enough room for 2 and couldn't move our table. Will never try to go there again.

They were able to take us with no prior reservation which was great! Really authentic ambiance, it feels like the place has been there for a long time. The staff is very welcoming and friendly and spoke both French and English. The menu also was in both languages which was uber convenient. We went with combo dinner that included (1) a choice of an appetizer, (2) a soup or small salad, (3) main course, and (4) coffee/tea. The pricing for the whole thing was very affordable - 38 to 52 Canadian dollars which is a steal if you are in the US. The desserts are at extra cost - 7-9 Canadian dollars... Both my friend and I enjoyed our food. The highlight was the melon with blue cheese appetizer - very elegant and eclectic dish that doesn't compare to anything I tried before. The rabbit leg with prune sauce was also unusual and a must-try. Definitely coming back when I'm in the area next time.

The vegetables were boiled to insipidness. Our waiter was up-beat and very attentive, describing the menu in glowing terms and making a valiant effort to raise our dining experience from the dead. But when you're dead, you're dead. We really wanted to like this place as a friend, who knows food, had recommended it. He enjoyed a meal there several years ago. I hope that they rediscover their glory days.
