The staff provided a good service but the food was too cold and there were not many choices of seafood. Average.

I found myself in the area around Square Victoria metro recently and knew that there was a Brit &…read moreChips in the area (but wasn't sure where) on McGill Avenue but since I knew that there was also a Five Guys in the area, I felt that if I didn't find Brit & Chips, I would just go to Five Guys if I found it. I did find both Five Guys and Brit & Chips (they are on opposite sides of the street) on McGill Avenue south of St Jacques. I had eaten at a Brit & Chips location before when they had a restaurant near Guy-Concordia metro (maybe about ~10 years ago) when I worked in a building which was close to the Green line so convenient to go there for lunch since it was less than 10 minutes away from my place of work at the time whereas for me to get to this location from where I worked would have taken about twice as long since it would have meant transferring from the green line to the orange line. On the day that I went to that location back then, I did remember that it wasn't that busy and I was the only customer. Unfortunately, that Brit & Chips restaurant did not survive. I did remember that the fish was very good so decided to go to this Brit & Chips since they had a lunch special. The staff were very friendly and greeted me in French and while I'm bilingual, I answered in English and the server replied to me in English. I was asked whether I was eating in or wanted something take out. I told the person that I was eating in and he told me that I could sit "anywhere" so I picked a seat in the back. I went to the washroom to wash my hands and then returned to my seat. I was asked whether I was ready to order and I mentioned that I was so the person motioned to the server and she asked me what I wanted. I asked her what I could get for their $19 lunch special and she told me that it was any of the 3 fish and chips dishes on the menu. I quickly looked at it and made my choice based on the server's recommendation (cod) and also decided to have a beer. The beer was brought immediately to my table and the food was put on my table a few minutes later (maybe 4 minutes later). The battered fish wasn't as good or prepared as well as I remember from the other location nor was it the best battered fish that I've had. The fries (chips) were good. The dipping sauce was also very good. What I didn't like about the way my battered fish was prepared was that when I cut into it, the hollow or "air pockets" of the fish/batter was dripping with oil. I know that the battered fish is deep fried so some oil is to be expected but I felt that it was "a lot" of oil that came out when I cut into my fish. The restaurant wasn't too busy at the time that I went (it wasn't empty nor was I the only customer there throughout my meal since as people left, others came in). I also didn't feel rushed. I showed up about 15 minutes before 2pm (their lunch special ends at 2pm... which I interpret to mean that the customer needs to enter and order before 2pm). In terms of whether I would return, I'm unsure since I'm rarely if ever at Square Victoria and for the orange line in downtown Montreal, I'm generally either at Place D'Armes or Bonaventure. If I exit Square Victoria metro, I would have no aversion to returning if I felt like fish & chips but would also just be as likely to try a different restaurant in the area. When downtown, I'm generally around the green line area. Yes, I know that in the underground city/tunnels you can get from McGill metro to Square Victoria metro without taking the metro but it is a very long walk indoors (from McGill metro station to Eaton Centre to the tunnel to Place Ville Maria to Central Station to the tunnel at Bonaventure station and a long walk indoors, one winds up in Square Victoria metro and exiting Square Victoria metro and going outside, walking a few blocks, less than 5 minutes or so away is Brit & Chips. Depending on the weather, if one didn't want to take the metro but was at McGill metro, it might be faster to just walk there directly above ground (outdoors) but then again with the traffic lights, it might not save that much time but would save a lot of walking (and perhaps going up a few flights of stairs since some escalators generally don't work). I would rate this place as 3.5 stars which I've rounded up to a 4 since I don't feel right lowering it to a 3.

Po boy shrimp sandwich was on my mind, my friends are in New Orleans and that's one of their specialities. I INSTANLY wanted to have those delicious fried coated shrimp with all the fixings. I searched on yelp "po boy sandwiches" I got a few hits but OFISH stood out. They had exactly what I wanted and it wasn't to far. Called for a pickup as we wanted to go by the water on this glorious +8 sunshine day in Montreal. We got two sandwiches and 1/2 of bang bang shrimp. DELICIOUS is the first word that came to mind as soon as I unwrapped my sandwiches and mmm was second after my first bite. Sandwich had all the fixings... crusty bread, lettuce, mayo, tomatoes PICKLES and of course delicious little shrimp which were battered perfectly. It was not messy it was fresh and made with love. I highly recommend grabbing one. The bang bang shrimp are delicious covered in a mayo dressing reminded me a bit of the Big Mac sauce with shredded lettuce and sesame seed you can't go wrong. Fantastic shrimps I tell ya. You will also be pleased to know there's 15% off when you take it to go. Students get a little freebie as well free fries and drink so you can't go wrong. What a great find ! Will be back soon :)

The fish and chips here is easily one of the best fish and chips I've ever had. They have breaded fish and battered fish. The battered fish is the way to go. It is so crispy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. The batter is seasoned and looks like it has specks of dried vegetables and/or spices in it. The fries are also amazing. They are not battered yet so incredibly crispy and sweet. The fish and chips plate is about $12 taxes included and comes with a salad and a fountain drink as well. You have a choice of garden salad, spinach salad or coleslaw. I chose the the garden salad (because the spinach salad looked really wilted and sad). The garden salad is just a regular iceberg salad, but it does have cucumber, carrots, and tomato in it. The house salad dressing is oil-based and very tasty. I think it has roasted onion and/or garlic in it. You can also get two sides instead of fries if you want to be healthier (but the fries are really good, so I think it's worth the calories and artery clogging - just do an extra workout and eat really well for the next few days afterwards). Some choices for sides are couscous, rice, stir-fried veggies, some other style veggies, and roasted potatoes . They have other stuff too, like shrimp salad and other seafood stuff, but I always only get the fish and chips because it is soooo good.

Unfortunately it didn't deliver. Every dish (I mean every dish) came in a bed of brown (bean?) sauce and had a pile of coriander on top. Fish, bean sauce and coriander. Eggplant, bean sauce and coriander. Beef and broccoli, bean sauce and coriander. The duck wraps, no bean sauce but the main accompaniment is coriander. There was really just one flavor profile across the entire meal, bean sauce and coriander. The service was slow (we had to cancel a second drink order because we were done eating before they arrived), and the music is waaaay too loud. I love their sesame noodles and the garlic fried rice, and the duck is great to share with a small group. Everything is always delicious and high quality. However my last visit was very strange - the waitress brought out a candle on a little figurine saying "well since you didnt order dessert, but happy birthday" - I was really confused, and even asked her if my husband indicated it was my birthday in the reservation (she confirmed he didnt), but she had noticed our other friend at the table had given me a gift bag. Anyways, I reacted with polite confusion and a "thank you" and thought that was that, but was very disappointed to come up from the bathroom and hear her openly trash-talking me to the other staff in the kitchen adjacent to the stairs to the bathroom, about how I wasnt nice about the candle? Like lady, I had a small bag that was a condolence gift, on my way back from putting my dog to sleep, and never was rude even once? Its not like we asked for it or wanted it. We'll ask for a different waitstaff next time and continue to come in - we do really love the restaurant, just had a very bizarre evening with our waitress.
