Truly enjoyed my dinner here with three fellow travelers. We tried the onion soup and escargot. Escargot were cooked with fine herbs and oil, no breadcrumbs or garlic like in the states; onion soup was deliciously sweet and smooth (significantly less salty than states side). For main plates we ordered the duck, steak filet and braised beef. All were very well prepared, and portions were appropriately sized. You get a choice of sides: fries, salad, mashed potatoes or mixed vegetables/beans. We most liked the fries and mixed vegetables. We also ordered desserts: creme brûlée, brioche, and chocolate lava cake. All three were wonderful. The waitress recommended a beautiful wine too. In total for four our bill came to 180 euros. Great place to eat away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Found in a nice quiet corner this was the first place we ate in Paris. Both my husband and I had the special of the day, mine a white fish with veggies and my husband the filet migon with pasta we followed it with a dessert of strawberry creme pie(tart) and a cheese plate with cherry marmalade and salad. Just no. Service was an all time low for this place and was let down by the great Yelp reviews. We waited outside for 45 min with previously made reservations and saw others being let in before us. Had to flag down the water three separate times with twenty minute waits in between for: our menu, water, and our bread and radishes. The bread and radish starters were good. Got the escargot which came out sizzling and smelled delicious. Unfortunately the escargot was under seasoned so the flavor wasn't maximized but the butter and herbs was great for dipping our (asked for) bread in. Our bottle of rosé was fine. Got the sea bream special and the filet was cooked quite well but the tomato cream sauce on the side was ice cold and mashed potatoes were completely under seasoned. Partner's risotto was OK but some of the clams were rotten. Additionally the tables were extremely jam packed and made getting in and out for the people around us a hassle. This place was absolutely wonderful. My mom ordered French onion soup, duck, and chocolate mousse and she ate every bite. I ordered French onion soup, risotto with bacon wrapped scallops, and creme brûlée and it was amazing. We would both recommend this place to anyone and everyone. The staff is extremely friendly and speaks English very well. The menus were in French, but the staff was more than happy to explain everything to us. The staff was also very attentive. What can I say?! This place surpassed our expectations. Make sure you have a reservation because it's a tiny spot. The staff did not speak a lot of English so the menu was a bit tough to decipher but they had wifi which they we're happy to share with us so we simply used that to make sure we we're interpreting the menu correctly. After reading the reviews I decided this place is a must try. We made reservations, but was not necessarily needed on a Sunday night. There aren't many tables, so I can see where a reservation is strongly recommended. I'm a freak for radishes so when I saw a plate of them with salt I was a little over excited. I got the duck with bananas for dinner, which was out of this world delicious! My boyfriend got the steak, which was okay, but very fatty. Everything that was ordered around us looked amazing. Asian flavors in some dishes were interesting. I recommended asking the waitress what to order, they are good at giving advice and even pointing out specials that aren't on the menu. Really good french food in Paris. Yeah this sounds odd, but so many people when visiting hit pure tourist traps that only loosly interprit the french classics to turn a quick buck with the hightest margin possible. This place is not one of those establishments. The food was quality and I believe the locals would agree. We went in for lunch, and this neighborhood restaurant was packed with locals. We were the only foriegners int he joint. One big recommendation though: If you go for lunch, look at the chalk board for the lunch special. You get so much more for you euro than if you just order straight up off the menu. They have very good lunch specials. BTW, no one seemed to mind that we were two Americans diving in for lunch with a bunch of locals. read more

A truly splendid little dinner spot. Quite small and quaint, so I imagine it might fill up quickly, though was relatively quiet when we visited late on a Thursday. Mix of locals and a couple foreigners like us. The appeal of this place is it's a little off the beaten path of the more bustling La Marais -- expect a lower-key vibe and charm in spades. Menu is in French but the waiter was very kind to walk us through it in English. Entrees here are traditional -- had the escargot while the gf had french onion soup. Both were outstanding! Mains are french-asian fusion (heads up if you're not expecting it!) My duck breast had a sesame glaze that was very nice, but if you're looking for strictly traditional takes this is perhaps not the spot. For dessert we shared the Creme Brulee which we both agreed was one of the best we'd had. Great wine list as well. Bet we'd definitely return on a future visit! read more

This is a great local spot! Their food was excellent and traditional and frequented by the locals. My wife and I came with our 8 yr old and 11yr old children, and everyone loved the meal. The kids enjoyed the charcuterie and escargot appetizers, and after 1 week in Paris eating escargot daily, it's the #1 favorite this far. Everyone enjoyed their main course (lamb filet, steak, and burger). Don't skip dessert...profiteroles were untraditional and excellent, and the crème brûlée represented the country's delicacy well! This place was great. At first, it looks very sketchy, but the inside is alright. Do not be seated upstairs. That entire floor is literally a hole in the wall. The waiter (who I think was also the owner), spoke fluent English, and translated the menu for us. The food was all amazing. The swordfish ceviche was flavorful, even though the sauce texture was a bit mushy for my taste. The veal was (as the waiter advertised) extremely tender. The aji tuna was seasoned well. The scallop rissotto is a great example for how rissotto should be done. The burger was very juicy. One of the first places my friends and I visited in Paris, we loved it! We got there before they started serving dinner..around 7pm and good thing we got there early because it seems like a popular place and it filled up right away! None of us speak French that well but our servers were very helpful with the menu and answered all of our questions. The food was phenomenal, service was great and they even gave us little French candies at the end of our meal. I would definitely recommend eating here if you are in Paris. I'm giving this place 3 1/2 stars (rounded up to 4) because the servers are super nice and the radishes they bring to the table are a nice start. My girlfriend LOVED the duck so there is the three stars and they don't bother you if you happen to be in the middle of a conversation so that's great as well. But the fish was damn awful (the one with yuzu) and it's swimming in butter with a bunch of vegetables so if there was a bit less sauce it might work. But as is the norm with fish in a citrus sauce it's not super easy to pull off so I might possibly have gotten the wrong thing. The prices here are really reasonable and my girl and I had come back because we got a bomb cappuccino a few days earlier (the additional 1/2 star which was inherently rounded up). It's a charming spot and one of the oldest restaurants in Paris (i think since 1830 or something) so it's a nice place with some history. But the food just doesn't add up to some of the other top restaurants and being half French and having lived in Paris for many years I speak from experience. It's worth going to and patronizing just stay away from the fish. read more

Very overrated. The upstairs is so hot you cannot enjoy your meal, the kitchen clearly vents up and not out. The entrees were quite nice but the main plates were a mess. A number of items were sold out which we were not informed of until after we had spent some time translating (no English menus) and deciding on what to order. Two of three of the vegetarian dishes were sold out and my vegetarian daughter opted for the spring salad with chicken which was delivered with cold, chewey pork cutlets. My veal had a delicious herb spread on top but the cut itself was lack luster, rather chewey. My other daughter had the filet which was fantastic and the saving grace of the meal. The low rating here is mostly for the cost of lackluster dinner plates, and poor wait service. The gentleman who took our initial order never showed up with water, the lady who took our main order was very nice and brought extra water but did not give us new silverware with our main plates and nobody showed up after delivery of the meal to check on us, clear our plates or bring us a check. Given the heat and lack of attention we had neither cheese nor dessert. When I came downstairs, the third waiter appeared to be far more engrossed with sipping his wine and conversating with a client while his two coworkers seemed to be hard at it serving and clearing tables. Clearly he wasn't working hard for his tips. We tried Chez Margot around the corner which had excellent service and a veal kidney to die for and overall costs that were more inline with the quality of food. Overall I'd avoid this place, I left pretty annoyed at the entire or experience lack thereof. read more

Quite simply, this was my favorite meal during my week in Paris! The magret de canard is a duck breast which looks and tastes like a very rich, succulent steak. I am not normally a steak person, but this piece of duck was just absolute perfection. They also cook it to your preferred temperature like a steak, i.e., I had mine cooked medium. I always believed that you couldn't do that when cooking birds, but I cede to the French on this one. The mashed potatoes and sweet banana (similar to a sweet plantain) completed this mouth watering dish. The staff was very friendly; humored my poor french; but also spoke English (as does seemingly everyone in Paris!) This is an affordable, can't-miss restaurant while in Paris! read more

They were out of duck (at 9:30 pm on a tues, not ok) so i settled for the overpriced, fatty, and gristly steak frites. Salad and frites that came with it were very good by the way. My wife ordered risotto with scallops which was way way too creamy and again overpriced by a mile. Too many good places in la marais. We will not be coming back any time soon. read more

A Parisian friend recommend this restaurant and she didn't let us down. Very small place with good food and French wine selection. We were surrounded by mostly locals and returning Americans. They don't open the kitchen for dinner until 7:30 during the week. I recommend arriving a bit early and enjoying a glass of wine before being able to order dinner.
