The beef wasn't as tender as I thought it could have been. This was a repeat visit to France for us...our first visit here 10 years ago was lovely. Our visit tonight not so much. Our food: The entree we ordered was Os a Moelle (bone marrow). To my taste, it seemed undercooked with an unpleasant gelatinous consistency. My Agneau de Sept Heures also seemed undercooked and not falling off the bone as I expected. My dinner partner's Boeuf Bourguignon was passable but we've had better. Dessert was a great disappointment; my dinner partner's Clafoutis was actually burned BLACK on the bottom and basically inedible. My Tart Tatin was okay but nothing special. As always this tiny restaurant was crowded. While we were warmly greeted by our host, service during the meal was at best perfunctory and even a bit chilly. Sadly this will be our last visit to a Bistrot I used to dream about and look forward to visiting. read more

What a fantastic meal! This is slightly off the beaten path and well worth the trek. We had a salad, the holiday chicken special (likely the best dish of our trip), the chateaubriand with dauphinoise potatoes, and the tarte tatin. All were just spectacular. Three of us randomly found this place on Google maps looking for a decently rated French restaurant. It turned out to be a great choice. It's a small place on a quiet side street with only inside seating. At two in the afternoon on Sunday it was nearly empty and seating was easy. They have an English menu full of good options. We ordered marrow bone for appetizers and duck breast, slow cooked lamb and bourguignion stew with a bottle of house red wine. All were excellent. My husband and I discovered Bistrot Henri on our first trip to Paris together 5 years ago. We loved it so much that we visited it twice on that trip. We were excited to return recently, and thrilled to find that the food was just as good as we remember. The dishes are French classics that include beef bourginone, chateubriand, dauphine potatoes, etc. The menu is filled with French comfort food, and they offer specials as well. On our visit the other night, we ordered bone marrow with toast, chateubriand with green peppercorn sauce, flank steak with onions, and a cheese plate. All were delicious and the mains were served with the best potatoes I have ever had in my life. We paired it with a nice rose', and couldn't have been happier with our meal. Best of all, we got a table outside where we were completely comfortable. We hope to return again in the not-too-distant future!!! read more

This place was recommended to me by a friend. We visited for dinner on a Thursday. It's pretty small and started to get crowded after we sat down. I ordered the steak tartare, and we also ordered the lamb chops, roasted duck, and sea bass, and shared a salad. Everything was pretty good and seemed pretty affordable for the portion sizes. Service did seem a little weird, we got English menus but they brought over a chalkboard with the specials written in French (I can speak French, but it was written so lightly and kind of rubbed off that it was difficult to read), but they seem to bring chalkboards over to every table regardless of whether they can read French or not. Also interestingly saw a table accidentally given English menus when they needed French, so just ask if you need a different menu or translation of the specials. read more

The ambience here is about 3.5 stars, but the service, food, and hospitality is what made me lean towards 5 stars. The ambience is very casual overall. We didn't have a reservation but we were eating very late (about 9:30), and this place was near our apartment and stayed open later for us, which was greatly appreciated! As for the food... I ordered the risotto with shrimp, which was very tasty and rich- super cheesy risotto with massive prawns. I don't recall the names of the other dishes my friends ordered, but they were also well prepared and they were not disappointed. Not what we expected. We planned for an upscale, cloth napkin experience and found a tiny, crowded place on a street with numerous bars whit people literally stuffed in and hanging out of them. There was even a bar called, Temple Bar. After a little disappointment, we squeezed our way in and the wonderful owner made us feel comfortable. We actually went for the Lamb and prunes that every positive review referred to but it wasn't on the menu. However we had Beef Burgundy and Lamb Chops, both of which were wonderful.. wine list quite extensive and fairly priced. Deserts no great shakes. So, after initial disappointment, we loved our meal, we loved the owner. Too bad we missed the bus both ways and had to add 25€ in cab fare which took our 96€ dinner cost up a notch read more

We were ushered to our table which was so close to the next table that we were practically thigh touching thigh. We ordered wine and entrees and they were brought within 1-2 minutes even before water or bread were offered. We felt rushed and uncomfortably tight in our seats-- far from a relaxed romantic dinner. I ordered the chicken and the sauce was so heavy with cream, I'm worried about the outrageous calorie count. The potatoes gratinee were similarly heavy with cheese. My husband's Beef Bourguignon was so fatty that he fears heartburn tonight. In an era of Covid, I fear the tables were so close together that there were literally 8 people sitting and breathing within 6 feet of me. Just know what you are getting into.... It is run by two attentive sweet gentlemen very accommodating to tourists but definitely has a local vibe. I had the organic chicken and my husband had the steak. We arrived and while we had reservations about staying decided to as it was recommended by our hotel. only Americans were eating there which should have been a clue. The other great restaurants we had eaten at had as many or more locals than foreign people. If you really want good food this is not the place for you. read more

Ok so yesterday we had lunch with a friend in Saint-Germain...we booked on line but never received a confirmation from the restaurant...but it didn't matter, we got there early to check & they knew (but then it was mostly empty at 13.30...what if it had been in the evening?)...then went for a walk around & found a fantastic men's shop called Victoire a couple of streets away (of which more later under Victoire)...oh and 2 other places obviously also owned by the Henri people...until it was time to meet & eat Friendly welcome, seating fine...its a cosy place that's for sure...the food was pretty good - see the photos - and I would have given 3.5 but for the fact that my steak had no taste whatsoever...cooking and texture fine but no no taste...I start from the beginning So we ordered the lentils & lardons...very good, one to share while we waited...with water & 50cl of Cotes de Rhone And we waited... Eventually the most amazing dish - the 7 times cooked lamb came...wow; and the saucisse de Lyon made by Bobosse (apparently a name in those parts) and which was studded with pistachio..also pretty wow; and my steak with a gratinois... No room for dessert so just coffee gourmand, a single and a double espresso...oh and well we had to have another 50cl..total 101€, which frankly I thought was very good value Yes I would go again but not choose the steak. Our neighbours had the tarte tatin...we just couldn't manage to even share one. Desserts & cheese looked very good. All in all a worthwhile expedition to the other side of town On the other hand, every other building is a restaurant and they all look pretty good; there is an amazing covered food market...oh and M&S is next door & Uniqlo opens very soon. Definitely one of our favorites in Paris - we've been here at least 10 times in the past 10 years and the food is consistently great. Delicious comfort food in a rustic setting. Not fancy just soo good. I don't think they accept reservation's for dinner via the Fork app (lunch they do) but you can call - they speak English if you're worried about that. Had dinner here our first night in Paris. We found some good recommendations for it online and decided to try it out. It's on Rue Princesse, an adorable cobblestone Street with a lot of evening activity! We sat at a bistro table outside though the windows were wide open so it was basically a n open air restaurant. Service in Paris in general is slow, since it's more about the experience no one is ever in a hurry. But that's just what we're looking for. I got the foie Gras which was to die for!! Finally found myself eating a traditional French dinner. While I've been in Paris for three months, I successfully managed to avoid eating typical French dinner plates. But tonight, I found myself at Le Bistrot d'Henri and ate my weight in duck filet, au gratin, bread and creme brûlée. This place, a little on the pricier side, is cozy and the staff is friendly. The menu is versatile, and the place features a ton of specials. I do highly recommend this place not only for its food, but for its perfect location (sandwiched on a street with trending bars and pubs). Get the creme brûlée. It's a must. read more

We ate here 2 times this past week. They have menus in French. I never saw a "menu" only a la cartel food. It's really good food! We had the endive salad, boeuf bourguignon (twice!), pork with pasta, chateaubriand, and zucchini with tomato coulis. My hubby, who hates veggies, loved the mushrooms and carrots in the bourguignon! That means it was amazing! The zucchini was cooked in with eggs and what seemed like ricotta, so it was quiche-like. Not bad, but I loved the tomato coulis (marinara). My chateaubriand was cooked exactly how I wanted it - medium rare. The potatoes were also good. The salad was light and refreshing. Yummy blue cheese. Sadly the pork was over cooked and dry, so the mustard sauce helped. You've definitely got to go here! It's tight fitting, so get there when they open. They filled up fast both nights. Established in 1980 this bistrot is not to be missed while in Paris. Reasonably priced, exceptional French home cooking and a staff that will great you with open arms. Almost as if you were walking into someone's kitchen. Highly recommend the Salad d' endives, les escargotals, bistrot salad to start with and all main dishes were amazing, boeuf bourgignon, châteaubriand, salmon, agneau and let's not forget dessert, mousse is my #1 vote, followed by the creme brulée and tarte tatin. Have I been to this restaurant many times, never miss when I am in Paris. Check the paintings on the walls by Margot, Henri the founder and his son Julien who runs the restaurant. I'm willing to spend a decent amount of money on food, but when the food is just good and 60 Euro for lunch, I find that to be a poor value, which was my experience at Le Bistrot d'Henri. I enjoyed my steak tartare, which was standard, but well executed. They had just run out of boeuf bourguignon, which is what my boyfriend wanted, but he instead tried the lamb stew and we both liked it. I also tried the lentils with lardon, which was good, but a huge portion and I got tired of it after a while because I thought it needed a contrasting flavor or texture. The service was friendly and helpful. I don't really have much else to say about this place because it was one of those very middle of the road meals that I wished I would have used just eating charcuterie, cheese, and bread picked up from a local shop. read more

I love everything about this little bistro. First off, the owner is very charming. He was very helpful with suggesting wine, and was an all around great host. My friend and I ordered the escargot to share, which was delicious. Came already out of the shell, and was some of the best escargot we've had! The bread was incredible - owner said he got it from the local boulanger. You could tell how fresh this bread was - perfect crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. Now we get to the serious stuff - the main meals. I got the beef bourguignon and it was absolutely delicious! The meat was tender, the sauce was so flavorful! My friend ordered the chateaubriand and it was exquisite. Had so much flavor and the sauce that was served on top of it was SO good!! Will definitely be recommending this place to friends who are visiting Paris and will be back myself!! read more
