We had used Leashes & Leads for boarding and daycare for our previous dog and were very happy with them. The employees seemed to really enjoy and care about dogs. However, last week was a terrible experience. We left our two Border Terriers with Leashes & Leads to stay for several nights while we were a couple hours away for business meetings. Our dogs are a 5-year-old brother and sister pair who are very bonded; they'd never been apart and were supposed to be kept in the same kennel. I told the staff that our dogs wrestle and play-fight several times a day--they love to do that and if you have Borders, you know what I'm talking about. I also left Benadryl for the staff to give them if they were anxious while we were gone. They've been fine being periodically boarded since they were one year, so they have a track record of doing fine in kennels. A few hours after we left them, we got a text that the staff had fed our dogs some other dogs' food, which we appreciated their letting us know. Then the next morning, we got a text that the staff was separating our dogs due to fighting. No amount of explaining that our dogs just play that way got through to the woman who called. I know how anxious our dogs get when they're apart from each other, so I drove two hours back to get them. (No one had given them anything for their anxiety as I'd instructed.) A surly, hostile woman named F***h checked us out, overcharging us by a lot. We finally got some of the wrong charges removed but still got charged $66 as a late fee on top of their other charges. I had to ask several times for an itemized statement before she grudgingly gave me one. She also seemed like she did not like our dogs, which was especially concerning. Our dogs are HIGHLY motivated by play and food, but for many hours after I got them, they refused to eat treats or play--they were really stressed. I don't know if they were just traumatized from being separated or if something else happened, as well. Like I said, Leashes & Leads was great in the past, but unless the owner can assure us that F***h and any other employees who are hostile to dogs and people are no longer employed there, we'll not use them again. read more

I've had nothing but troubles and have heard nothing but bad things about them. I applied here 4 TIMES. And every single time I was "forgotten about." As an applicant. I did 2 tours of the place (because they couldn't even remember that I had done one previously.) both times I toured (months apart) the entire back room reeked of urine and feces, too many dogs in one area with not enough staff to adequately care for the dogs, dogs humping each other, fighting, handlers shocking the crap out of dogs with e-collars to the point they were yelping and jumping in pain. (They never mentioned training for their employees on these devices so I assume they just slap them on and hope it does the trick), dogs frightened in corners of the room and a "jail" as they called it for dogs to go when they are aggressive. I've worked at other kennels and I've never seen one run like this. I was told recently that they are under new management so hopefully that helps but this place seems like a train wreck. When I went for my first interview I was approached by one of the groomers who offered me a position (I had no grooming experience at the time) and she said that they hated their jobs and were basically wrestling dogs to get them in the bath. I've heard horror stories of dogs coming back with broken or lame legs and paws, dogs not getting medications, staff putting senior dogs with rowdy teenage dogs, and many accounts of infections, parasites and illnesses contracted here. Staff are allowed to sit on their phones during playtime and when I toured, that's EXACTLY what all of them were doing. Sitting in chairs, on their phones, and when a dog misbehaved they would throw it in jail or shock it with an e collar. read more

We have boarded our two dogs at Leashes and Leads several times and every time they our two come back tired from all the playing! Highly recommend this business. Love that the workers share playtime with social apps. We've had them groomed and bathed as well and they do a FANTASTIC job. Leashes and Leads not only knows how to treat their dog friends, but fur babies of all kinds! Only wish they would have video monitors in the kennels, or maybe FaceTime/video chats for those longer trips. read more

Turns out our dog didn't throw up the entire tennis ball he'd eaten at Leashes and Leads. $500.07 later, the vet confirmed 3.13.23 through radiographs and a physical exam that remants of the toy remain in my dog, causing him discomfort, vomiting and loss of appetite. Now we're combing through his solid waste products hoping the remainder of the tennis ball works its way out. Not looking forward to the possibility of surgery to remove what's left of the tennis ball. Not cool L&L. read more

I am usually not one to complain, but I feel that this needs to be shared publicly. Yesterday morning, I took my dog to Leashes and Leads to be groomed. Around 1:00 pm I received a call from them that I thought would be my notice that they were done grooming him and I could go pick him up. Unfortunately, the call was from the groomer saying that there had been "an accident," and that my dog had been cut. I was told that "the bleeding has stopped, and our vet looked at him, but he will need stitches" and to come get him. Mortified, I rushed over to Leashes and Leads to pick up my dog and although he wasn't bleeding at the time, he was shaking and appeared terrified. I was told I "wouldn't be charged for this grooming" and would receive "50% off the next grooming appointment." This, in itself, was laughable considering the horrific hack job my dog was left with. Not only did he have a gash in his neck, but two of his legs were shaved, random spots had been shaved around his body, and he had one single strip of shaved hair down the middle of his back from the base of his neck to his butt. To be told that I wouldn't be charged for this "grooming" was a giant slap in the face. I alerted the grooming receptionist that I was taking my dog to the vet for stitches and would be sending the bill to them because I would not be paying for the damage to my dog. She vehemently agreed and verbalized that the manager would be calling me very shortly that day to check in on me and my dog. The vet sedated my dog for the procedure, gave him an antibiotic injection, and placed 7 sutures in his neck, right over the jugular vein. He stated that my dog and I are very lucky, because if the cut had been only a few millimeters deeper, his jugular vein would have been nicked and he could have easily bled to death right there. Furthermore, my dog has raw patches of skin and small cuts where he was shaved much too close around his penis, anus, and two spots on his legs. I was advised by the vet to keep these clean and to try to keep my dog from licking them to avoid an infection. Needless to say, I am mortified. I am upset, incredibly mad, and sad that my sweet dog, who used to love getting groomed, has had to endure this traumatic experience. I never received a call from Leashes and Leads yesterday asking how my dog was doing or apologizing for what happened. In fact, I had to reach out to them myself in order to speak with the manager and inform her how bad this situation really could have been, in the hopes that nothing like this ever happens to another pet. The manager apologized, but noted that "these things happen." If that is the case, one would think that Leashes and Leads would be more equipped to handle the situation. I'm not a business owner, but I know that this is not how a business should be run. There was zero follow-up on their end, I had to go to a different facility to have the horrific grooming job fixed, and I can say that I will never EVER take my dog back there again. So no, I won't be needing the "50% off the next grooming appointment," thank you very much. They have yet to pay the vet bill, but I'm hoping Leashes and Leads will do one thing right and pay the $300 bill once this is all said and done. Pet owners, please be advised that grooming accidents can be fatal, and I will only be trusting my beloved pet with a company and dog groomer that takes this seriously. read more

We took our dog to the dog play care for half a day. He was fine when we dropped him off, but he had an injured leg that he couldn't put any weight on when we got him back. When we picked him up, they said he was fine, but when we went back and confronted them, they admitted they noticed him limping "a little bit." But when he got home, he was not limping "a little bit" - he was limping so bad we had to take him to the ER! And it was so bad that he might need surgery! No more. So let me preface this by saying that I have high regard for the equine park here (both me and my kiddo have taken riding lessons there), and I love the attached vet (Meadow View), but I've had nothing but bad experiences with the pet boarding/kennel part of the Leashes and Leads business. I dropped my two dogs and one cat off there for a five-day out-of-state trip and when I arrived, the worker who took them appeared completely disinterested and displayed no affection for my pets, and I could hear another female worker in the kennels yelling at and cursing at the dogs. Unfortunately we had to leave the state in a few hours and there was no time to find another boarding solution, or I would've, because this gave me loads of bad vibes. When I returned to retrieve them, I once again heard a worker shouting and cursing at the dogs in the back, and after I got them home it turned out one of my dogs had contracted giardia (an intestinal parasite) AND conjunctivitis (pink eye) when she was there, and the other, a senior dog, now has kennel cough. So far the giardia has cost around $700 in vet fees and my poor pup has had the worst week trying to recover from it. Now, I know that it's always a risk for critters to contract stuff anywhere they're boarded, but for them to contract three separate sicknesses between the two of them, and most especially the fact that none of the workers seemed to be treating them well--that's just not okay in my view. Added to this, the fees for boarding were more than I was originally quoted--nearly $800 for 5 nights, with the two dogs sharing a kennel and the cat in a separate area. (Note: the cat came home fine and seems to have had an okay experience there.) I definitely will not board here again and can't recommend it to anyone else. read more

Not only did they wait until I showed up to cancel said appointment (they never are available when you try to call them or return a call), they didn't even have one of my dogs down for the appointment when I clearly scheduled both at the same time and had email confirmations. I had my sweet little senior rat terrier board there for approximately 5 nights and the staff did not follow any of the directions I left I had them written out and I spoke with the people at the front desk in person I was told that she did not have to go out with the rest of the dogs and I clearly expressed my concern that she cannot be out with the rest of the dogs because she was a senior and had a lot of arthritis . The people at the front desk told me that she would not have to be out with the other dogs in the run as they put it I was also told that I could bring Chloe's blanket and special treats for her and none of which had been used the blanket was still in the bag and the treats were never opened also when I picked up my dog after five nights she was a different dog and she never was the same I think that something happened there and I don't know what happened but I will never bored there again or anywhere else because of this incident if it was ever an emergency situation and I had to board my dog again I would choose a place that had 24/7 cameras for me to watch my dog this was heartbreaking for me because Chloe was never the same. read more

I adopted my puppy 4 months ago and decided to choose Leashes and Leads for our puppy training classes based on a recommendation from a co-worker. The six week puppy I class began in July and was a great experience. The trainers were knowledgeable, friendly and spent a lot of time working with each of us and our dogs. It was nice getting the chance for my puppy to interact with other dogs her age (and size). After Puppy I class was over I enrolled her in an late August Puppy II class with different trainers, and again I had a very positive experience. Not only did they teach obedience and a few tricks, they give training tools and advice for walking on the leash, potty training, and socialization. The class also gave an introduction to puppy agility. I visit Leashes and Leads country store because they carry high-end dog food and treats that are not available in any other pet store in the Rochester area and because each of the staff members are very friendly and get to know the dogs and owners personally. The groomers at Leashes and Leads are always able to get me in short notice if we need a nail trimming or grooming and they take great care of my puppy. I speak very highly of Leashes and Leads with other dog owners and would recommend to anyone looking for a great training program here in Rochester! read more

We have used Leashes and Leads off and on for many things over the last few years. Most recently, we have had or dog attend weekly 1 day/week playcare and use them for boarding as needed. Recently, I found out they were kenneling our dog over 1/2 the time they were there daily. That, based off of feedback received, was happening for months. I was unaware and would not have taken her there if I knew I was paying for her to sit in a kennel. Also, fun fact, to kennel her for a day is much cheaper than what I was paying for playcare that she was not receiving. When I asked they said she just gets so excited and barks and wants to play. It is disruptive. Well, that is what I thought play care was for. Then when I asked for a call back they said to "follow up with our previous discussions.." There was NO previous discussion. Flat out LIE. For everyone looking and dropping off there dogs in the drive through lane, there is a reason the note says you cannot come in. Ask questions. Be direct. I was lied to in email, on vm, and on the phone. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Very unfortunate. The thing is, if they would have talked to me and told me I would have been ok with it. Instead, they flat out lied to me every time I picked her up weekly. They will take your money happily and, in my case, WERE NOT PROVIDING the services they said they were. read more

We board our dog at Leashes and Leads every time we go out of town but this is the last time I will board her at this kennel. Every time we have picked her up from here, even for a short two night stay, she has poop either smeared throughout her tail, all over the backs of her legs, or on her feet. This has not happened anywhere else we have boarded her. She is a healthy dog with no pre-existing conditions and I do not know what's going on here, if they aren't letting them out often enough or cleaning up the kennel but it is simply unacceptable. I even checked her over when I arrived at pick-up today, knowing what happened last time I boarded her, (and mistakenly put her in my car before I noticed) and sure enough, there was poop all over her hindquarters. I asked the gal to please go and wash her off, and said, "She has poop all over her coat. This happened last time too." The gal took her back to the grooming area, then brought our dog back out and apologized. However, upon arriving home I discovered more poop smeared throughout our dog's tail. This is simply unacceptable. I know that dogs experience anxiety when being boarded and can have upset stomachs, but please, it is part of the boarding kennel's responsibility to keep your dog clean and well cared for when in their kennel. I have no problem with picking up my dog if she's a little muddy or dirty from playing with other dogs, which is to be expected in a boarding situation, but being covered in poop is a different level of neglect. If letting a dog be covered in her own feces is the level of care that Leashes & Leads finds to be appropriate, they're running a bad business. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. Boarded my dog there about a month ago and gave them a paper copy of all vaccines for them to keep. Came back today to drop my dog off (we had a reservation), and we're told there was no record of vaccines and were turned away. Put us in a huge bind. Obviously she was vaccinated, as they could see she had stayed there before. Someone on their end screwed up big time. Apparently I should have gotten an email telling me there was no record, but didn't. They have lost a pretty good customer. read more

We really wanted to love leashes and leads. We have been bringing our dog there for training which has been ok. We decided to try play care. Thursday went well and our pup seemed very happy going there and after. Saturday we dropped him off at 8am and planned to pick him up at 6pm. We called to confirm earlier in the week that 6 was ok, they said yes. We left for the cities so we were quite a way away. Well they called us at 430 as we were getting ready to leave to pick him up. They said they close at 5 and if someone can't be there before 5 then they will be keeping our dog. They said they would charge us for boarding and he had to stay overnight. I understood when signing him up that if we were late we would be charged a boarding fee but no where does it say they will hold our dog hostage. We begged to pick him up and they said they just can't let us pick him. We said we don't care we will pay the fee we just want our dog. They said no he has to stay until 8am. We called a friend to go pick him up but by this point it was 450 and they live 10 minutes away, couldn't guarantee she could make it before 5. So we were stuck and had to leave our dog there. We felt sick to our stomach all night long and it felt terrible not having our puppy with us. He's never stayed away from us and never slept in a kennel. We knew he would be distressed. He is our baby. We picked him up in the morning when we were ALLOWED to get our own dog back. He was so happy to see us. Well today he has been very sad all day. When he got home we washed his paws and they were very obviously coated in urine and feces. He must have been standing in poop for quite a while because underneath his nails there is hardened poop. We even had him groomed yesterday so there is no reason he would have hardened poop under his nails. We are extremely disappointed and disgusted with how they handled this. We were misinformed and not allowed to pick up OUR DOG. That's a disgusting policy and they should be ashamed that they do that to people read more

Reviewing Leashes and Leads is a bit difficult for me. In the past, we had our schnauzer groomed there by a very talented woman who, after a couple of years with our dog, left that job. For grooming, we were very happy with Leashes and Leads. So now we are planning on attending a wedding out East later this year and decided that boarding her at L&L would be a good idea while we are to be away. Our daughter drops her schnauzer at L&L quite regularly when she is out of town for a couple of days. Since daughter's was scheduled to spend two days there this week, we brought our schnauzer there for one of those days so she could be with her familiar "cousin" while the facility was brand new to her. I dropped her off at 8 a.m. and picked her up at 3 p.m. She was very anxious to see me, but otherwise she seemed fine. We were told she was "shy" during the day, but did get together for play with her "cousin." The next morning, our schnauzer showed signs of diarrhea. By afternoon, she had serious diarrhea. She was no better by evening and had been outside with diarrhea seven times. Early that night, she began to vomit. I stayed up with her until 1:30 a.m. when by now she had been outside for the ninth time - still diarrhea. During the night, she vomited on the rug at our bedroom door. My wife took her out twice more that night until 5:30 when she vomited for the last time. The vet directed us to give her no food or water for 12 hours after the last episode. She was quite lethargic throughout the day but did take some boiled egg and rice twice before bed time. By the bed time she seemed better. The next day, she was pretty normal. Then my daughter called. Her schnauzer had just finished her third day at L&L. Now her schnauzer has diarrhea and is vomiting. We like Leashes and Leads, but something was wrong out there this past week. read more

Leashes & Leads is a difficult to do better than as it is an all-complete business with pleasant employees. You definitely are left knowing your pet will be well taken care of right at drop-off and when you return to pick them up, they are absolutely crazy wild like a kid that is being picked up from a wonderful birthday party. They appear to get plenty of exercise during playtime as they are usually quite worn out the rest of the event. Maybe one area they could be working on is when you come at certain times to pick up your pet, there can be. 5-6 owners waiting for their pets and not every one is asked to fetch an owners eat. Maybe just a bit better system there. Otherwise Leashes and Leads are doing a good job at a fair price scale. read more

They do a great job taking care of her, especially important because she has pancreatic insufficiency that requires extra care mixing food at feeding time. Now that I'm reminded daily from my two young girls how they miss there 4yr old golden retriever this was our experience with this crap hole. Last Labor Day weekend we took our dog there for a bath and groom I showed up to pick him up only to find out he couldn't walk on his front right leg. I asked what happened and was told he jumped off the grooming table (and why wasn't he harnessed when he was on the table) so I brought him home an hour later took him to the ER vet to find out he had a bad sprain and do to the fall it progressed bone cancer that we didn't know he had, leashes and leads vet said the fall is what brought it to surface within a couple weeks from the fall we had to put him to rest cause they neglected my dog and didn't take care of him when he was in there hands. I took my puppy to be groomed here because I had heard great things. But I must admit I'm extremely disappointed. I specifically asked for them to leave her length where they could, and they shaved her completely. I was told that she had fleas and they had to shave her face to get rid of them. I understand that they were attempting to make her more comfortable, but I would have appreciated that to have been communicated with me before they shaved her as I had given specific instructions and there are other more efficient ways to get rid of fleas. I was in total shock. In addition to the terrible cut, she was unable to fully open her eyes when I picked her up. I called and the groomer assured me that it can be common to experience discomfort from the chemicals in the shampoo. The next morning when she was still unable to open her eyes we took her to the vet. Our baby has two corneal abrasions and We now have a $200 vet bill thanks to the groomers at leashes and leads. I trusted this place, and I expected so much more. read more
