I was completely naive on replacing the worn out upholstery in my vehicle. I asked three independent sources (2 full service car washes and a body shop) their recommendation. They all didn't hesitate in recommending Leather Menders. I stopped by to try and get a bid and an appointment, 90 minutes later I was leaving with my seat reupholstered and my console leather replaced. These folks are fast, fair, and competent. The black on the armrests of my 2006 350Z was almost gone on the driver's side and half gone on the passenger side. A really lousy job by Nissan. Anyway, I've decided that I still like the car and it drives well. So I'm keeping it. Terex Auto Body which is in my neighborhood said I should contact Leather Menders. I went to see Paul and while he was not sure how he would handle it he was sure he could do it. Eventually, I was able to get the car to him. It took longer than he thought but I was fine with that as I just wanted it looking better. Communication with Paul and Tammy was difficult as calls were not returned at all. I told them as much when I picked up my car. They seemed to acknowledge as much. Anyway, the work was perfect. Paul made the armrests look better than new. He also touched up sweat stains on the leather seats and scratches on the dash. Seriously, the interior of my car looks as it did when I bought it 12 years ago. I had a very highly positive experience with Leather Menders in Austin. I worked the owner, Paul Gibbs, and he went to great lengths to understand what I wanted and what I actually needed. He worked late on a Friday evening during good weather to make sure that the leather was cleaned, dyed and stained on a schedule that worked for me. He very much took ownership of the job and educated me on what can be done in preservation of existing leather. It would have been too easy to look at the dirt, stains, etc. and conclude that it is time for replacement. To the contrary. In the hands of an experienced leather reconditioner, there is very little that cannot be salvaged. I just read Paul's reply to my awful experience with his shop Leather Menders. There is no policy stated or written concerning subsequent damage that may occur. He broke the convertible top, he stained the new leather he installed, he damaged the rear trim trying to clamp the convertible trim cover down, he tore the carpet in 2 places, he did not put the driver's side front seat back into it's original position and it rocks and he messed up the seat warmers. Everytime I get in the car I find something else he messed up. There is something wrong with this guy. He had the car in his shop from Dec 2019 until March 2020. There is no way I would ever bring this car back to him, for what to do more damage. read more

I found these folks through Yelp. They did a great job on the seat of a Subaru Legacy that got spliced open. I was able to drop my car off in the morning and it was ready by the afternoon. The seat looked exactly like the original - he did a great job matching the color and texture of the leather. You can't even tell it was replaced and worked on. You can also tell by the work that the owner really takes ownership of and pride in his work. Paul, Tammy and the Leather Menders staff are the best! They've done two jobs for me. The first was a 100-year-old leather scabbard for a Masonic sword that had been passed down through 3 generations of men in my family. I was preparing to give it to the 4th generation Mason but the scabbard was so old and dry, it was nearly turning to dust, and the stitching which held the front and back together had completely disintegrated. Paul made the leather look and feel like moist, supple leather again and the new edge stitching used the original holes! It will never be as strong as new leather but for ceremonies, it's perfect. The sword's new owner was thrilled! The second was an emergency job on the leather back seat of my Subaru Outback. Someone spilled a yard treatment chemical, which soaked through the leather and into the foam padding. Chemical fumes permeated the car and gave me headaches, and two days of my surface cleaning had no effect. Paul took out the back seat, removed the leather cover, washed, neutralized and treated that, then replaced the foam underneath. The leather seat looks like new, and no odor. Just in time, because Paul assured me that leaving the chemical in the leather any longer would have broken down the leather itself. And I was able to have the car in the meantime! Both jobs were very reasonably priced, and they stuck to their estimate. Leather Menders' work was timely and professional, done by very pleasant and helpful folks. Now, in Oct 2020, I need the exact same repair on my vehicle (same make car and type of seat) and the quote more than doubled! When I queried them about the massive increase in price...no reply. Leather Menders is awesome! Paul is an artist and Tammy is very sweet and helpful as well. I had a damaged driver's seat that had been badly discolored. Tammy assured me that they had the color to match it and guaranteed they would get the seat looking back to normal. It took Paul about 30 minutes to make his color concoction and about 10 minutes to spray it on. I was out of there in exactly an hour and the seat looks brand new. I was shocked at how reasonable the price was as well. Lexus wanted to charge me $600 to fix the seat and other repair shops wanted to charge me a lot more than you guys. Thanks so much. I have 2 leather sofas about 10 years old that had wear on several seat cushions as well as cat claw scratches all over them! Expensive sofas that were still in very good shape otherwise! I am beyond ecstatic over the amazing work Paul and his technician (Steven I believe) did on them. Paul explained the process and time frame to finish. They taped off the nail head trim and prepared the sofas for a thorough cleaning of the leather as well as a vacuum between the cushions. The sofas looked better just after the cleaning! Paul blended and layered several colors to match the original color of the sofas. After he was done I just couldn't believe they were the same sofas that were covered in scratches and had visible wear! He truly is an artist. Color matches perfectly and I can't see any scratches or wear. I wish I had done this sooner. Well worth the investment to bring my sofas back to like new condition! Went by Leather Menders to get an estimate and arrange drop-off. Owner said he had some free time and asked if I had a few minutes to wait, which I did. Don't waste your time. This post is not at all related to quality of work, which could very well be amazing, however the unresponsiveness is what forced me to take my business elsewhere. The woman who answered the phone asked me to send an image of the damage (which I did), then never responded to me until I called back to ask if she even received it. When I replied back to her email with a couple of questions I never got a reply and at that point I was done. The lack of customer service was enough to send me elsewhere. read more

I took my seven (7) year old two-seat sports car to Leather Menders on 04/17/14. A couple of days prior, I had been by the shop and received a general bid to re-foam the two seats. Meaning that the seats would be pulled and new foam inserts were to be placed in them using Tempurpedic foam. The bid was $150 per seat. I thought, no problem, sounds like a good deal. Well, there is more to it. When I arrived, the bid only covered the bottom of the seat, not the seat back ... not the whole seat. Hummm, I was told I would have to pay an additional $150 for each seat back, doubling the cost. But .. there's more! They agreed that if I paid $300 for each seat they would restore them to new or like-new condition and clean them up and make them look great. I thought about it for a few minutes. The seats in this car look great to begin with and there were no cuts or tears to them. But I went ahead and authorized the work. This was Thursday at 9:30 a.m. They estimated the vehicle would be ready by 2 pm the next day. I waited...patiently. I didn't call or go by. They called at 2 on Friday and said they were behind but to come at 4. I arrived promptly because it was Friday and beginning Easter weekend. One seat was complete and the other was still being worked on. But oh boy did the first seat looked and felt GREAT! It had been re-foamed and cleaned and it sits so comfortably!! About an hour later, around 5, the second seat was ready and installed. It looks great too! So did I get a good deal? I don't know. Possibly, but possibly not. Make sure you get an all-inclusive bid. It can be somewhat of a shocker when you find out the bid is not inclusive, but the work was first class and I'm pleased. On long trips this new foam insulation should improve my attentiveness and comfort. After all, I had the original seats in the vehicle when it arrived at the shop. Oh, one more thing. I asked them to re-paint and touch up the dash and doors. Wow, what an excellent job; the interior looks brand new. This was probably somewhat time consuming and tedious work. It had to be completed by hand. Charge? Of course, another $235.00. Worth it? Probably not, but I could not have done what they did, so again, I'm pleased that I have a virtually new interior which really shines and the seats will now last me for another 7 to 10 years. I plan on keeping this car for a long time because it's paid off, so I have many years of happy driving ahead. Rafael Trevino was the installer. Leather Menders does good work: they put new life into our couch and chair, which would otherwise been sent off to the Salvation Army. The problem came when it was time for them to come back for the second treatment. They kept making and breaking appointments; several times over a period of a couple of weeks. We finally had to go without the second treatment, so we're living with it: much better than it was, but with the feeling that it doesn't look as good as it should. read more

I've used them twice on two different cars and the repairs were fantastic. My only problem the 2nd time was that there was red dye all over my seats from another car they were working on and my car was left outdoors overnight and somehow got wet, leaving water spots all over it - which did not come out by waxing. I live quite a distance from this business. I made a specific point of going there to have a few repairs done. I spoke with their assistant as the owners were not there on the day I was. He took pictures of the damaged handbags I was asking to fix and promised they would call me. Three days later I left a message on the owner's voicemail repeating what I wanted done. No reply at all. I took my 10 year old Chevy truck over to get a quote on repairing some rips in the leather and getting the steering wheel in shape. The quote was reasonable...the project was done in 2 days...and the quality of the leather work is impeccable. Took 1 star off because they forgot the steering wheel part of the job, but they did it promptly once I noted it as I ate lunch down the street. There was over-spray on the windshield from the steering wheel last minute fix that I needed to remove with alcohol when I got home. read more

Based on seeing the work they did on the leather seats of a friends old mercedes, I paid them a visit. Not very chatty on the phone, the owner was very personable at the shop. They looked at my car (an 11 year old Lexus GS400 with tan leather), tested a spot on the seat for cleaning and it looked great. Gave me an estimate, explained what they would do and we set up the appointment for a few days later. Only thing I had to decide was whether to use leather or vinyl to replace the torn, worn cover of the center armrest. Even though leather was 100 bucks more in their pocket, they convinced me to go the cheaper way..vinyl. Turned out to be a perfect match and hard to tell its not the original leather part. At 1/3 the price of the Lexus replacement part it was a real bargain. As far as the rest of the work, the seats look new again. What was beyond cleaning, they dyed to match. Perfect match!! After 100K miles and 11 years of daily use, it was time to treat the car to something special. I was completely satisfied and would recommend them highly. And if you are debating whether its worth fixing up the leather seats in your car, DO IT!! Well worth the money. read more
