This place is INCREDIBLE. An absolutely delicious experience from start to finish, all complete with fantastic service.
Went here for lunch today. The outside could really use some decor. It doesn't stand out and I'm sure I've walked by countless times without giving a second glance. Upon entering we were immediately greeted with a warm "bienvenidos" and all the staff from the bartenders to the servers actually looked excited that we were there and happy working there. We went around 2:00 and the place was buzzing (of course tables separated enough for Covid measures).
We were seated immediately (I'm so glad we called ahead for a reservation) and just a little bit after we sat, a little taster of chicken wings in a passion fruit aji amarillo sauce came to our table. They were spicy, tangy, super zippy! I hope that they will become a regular menu addition. This little bite is a great business move, it really got us excited as we looked over the menu.
We started w the ceviche mixtura:
fish of the day, mixed seafood (we had scallop, mussels, shrimp), "rocoto leche de tigre", sweet potato, peruvian corn, "chicharróns" (basically really flavorful fried strips of fish). Omg. I've had a lot of ceviche in my life. I've had excellent ceviche done in many different styles. This ceviche has got to be the best I have had. Everything was just perfectly cooked. The flavors were bold, bright and all in balance. €22
Then we shared the Piquello Criollo:
a trío of: crispy yet tender pork belly with tari sauce on top of sweet potato medallions, green "tamale" with peruvian creole sauce, and traditional peruvian skewers. Again, just absolute perfect execution. My favorite thing on the plate was probably the skewered meat. It was super savory and smokey. My least favorite would be the tamale. The pork belly was crispy but not hard or dry at all and the meat/fat was tender and very well seasoned. Together everything complimented each other and I found myself scraping the plate clean. €29
For drinks my partner had beer while I had a chicha morada which is a type of water stained with blue/black corn. The corn kind of looks like a long blackberry. It was fresh, sweet and refreshing. I haven't had this drink before so I can't really compare but I loved it. Also loved the fun tiki glass it came in! The €3.50 was well deserved.
Throughout our meal, we had fast, attentive and friendly service from the entire staff despite the fact that it was pretty busy when we went. This is a rarity in Barcelona, but even compared to the US the service we got today was notably a step above without feeling fake or pretentious as some more expensive restaurants can seem. It truly seemed that the servers all really cared that we enjoyed our time there.
The atmosphere is fun, young.. sort of a "hip, polished, street grafiti" feel. Definitely a fun place for a date or to get together with friends.
During Covid times it seems that they aren't doing a menu del dia so it is a la cart. The prices are higher than other spots in the barrio, but the portions are large and the quality is top notch. I think the prices are more than fair.
All in all, it was about double what I usually pay for a lunch out in Gràcia but it was well worth it. I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu. I've lived in Gràcia for 3 years now and I am kicking myself for just discovering Leche de Tigre now. If you aren't in Gràcia, this place is well worth the trip. The one star review below is about delivery so I can't speak to that but it sounds like more of a logistical issue rather than a food issue. read more
