There were tons of games planned for his guests and there was plenty of space to do them. Not once did anyone feel cramped at any given time. Since there were a lot of peeps who came through, fam and friends came together and brought extra tables and chairs to accommodate everyone. The entire set up was also close to restrooms. Park provided a lot of trash bins, so that was never an issue. Out of respect for the park's staff, we made sure to do our part and cleaned up as much as we could when the occasion concluded. (The group brought extra trash bags as well and made sure they were sealed and piled by the bins as neatly as possible.) It's the least we can do, eh?! Dog friendly so long as they're leashed. Parking on the lot can be a challenge, but street is also available. Nephew was happy and clearly had a great time. And that's the most important take from this stop. Highly recommending, especially for summer events.

With additional encouragement from my Yelp friend, Lilah J, who also encouraged FTR of Lee Ware Park, here goes another FTR of another park in the City of Hawaiian Gardens. Did I mention what city Pioneer Park is in? Did I mention it's on the northeast corner of Pioneer and 223rd? If you are traveling southbound on Pioneer, it's three blocks south of Carson Street, and you'll want to look to your left. There isn't a designated parking lot for Pioneer Park, and actually, when I first drove around the area, I couldn't find even one spot on the street that was within reasonable walking distance! That's when I decided to call it quits and visit Lee Ware Park that day. I waited another day to visit Pioneer Park, and it's honestly a pretty low key park that it absolutely pales in comparison to Clarkdale, which isn't that far away. I mentioned in my Lee Ware Park review that it took me about 5 minutes to walk from Pioneer to Clarkdale in 90-degree weather, and it wasn't as bad as it sounded. Good exercise for the family or maybe a good route to walk your dog! What Clarkdale Park has that Pioneer Park does not have: Basketball court Restrooms Splash Pad Picnic shelter with a roof Swings, including a tire swing And a Skate Park?! Yup, a skate park nestled in the midst of blocks of houses and houses. What Pioneer Park has that Clarkdale Park does not have: An American flag on the City of Hawaiian Gardens park sign Fence between the grass and the sidewalk And that's pretty much it lol. The American flag decor on the Pioneer Park sign does look pretty cool and is worthy of some family photos, but other than that, if you visit Clarkdale or even Lee Ware Park, but bypass Pioneer Park, you're honestly not missing out on much. The playground at Pioneer Park is designed for children ages 5 to 12, but is quite small. Hard to compare to the other parks, but I'd say it's about the same size as the one at Lee Ware. A couple of picnic tables reside at this park, but as alluded to earlier, there isn't a roofed shelter. Depending on the time of day, you might get some shade anyways from the neighboring trees. There's also a walkway that cuts through the park, but it's not really much of a shortcut if you want to round the corner at that intersection. In other words, you'd only be saving a few paces and seconds by strolling through this park. And that's just about it lol. It would be difficult to hold a family gathering here like the one I saw at Clarkdale that day. I'd say it can comfortably fit about three families at any given time, but any more, and I'd call it pretty crowded. But if Clarkdale is crowded, and you want to visit a quieter park nearby, this will suffice, assuming, of course, there aren't kids running with abandon. On my visit, I only saw one other person in the park sitting at a picnic table. Compared to Lee Ware Park, which I gave 3 stars, Pioneer Park is no better. However, I don't see any reason to give 2 stars, so 3 it is then! Just don't come here with a basketball unless you're trying to extricate a kite from a tree.

This is unfortunate, because playing pickleball on a sunny day is bound to work up a thirst or appetite. At virtually all other pickleball parks I've been to, you're free to dine & drink at the courts. 7/2025: + Pleasant place for a family & friends picnic. + Of the four tennis courts here, one has been converted into four permanent nice pickleball courts, - but without shade for spectators. - Courts are free to play, but reserving is an option. There didn't seem to be anyone patrolling to verify reservations though. + Restrooms and water fountain right by the courts. - Restroom doesn't have paper towels. + Free street parking. The nearest is on Hedwig Rd. - No parking lot.

There isn't a ton of seating on the wading pool side but there is plenty of seating outside of it on the grass. The area is fenced off since it's right by a main street. The parking area is tiny and is always full but there is neighborhood parking. The playground is brand new.

It's much too small compared to Rynerson Park, just steps away in terms of displacement, but over a mile away in terms of distance. However, the trail both inside and outside the park can provide a nice place to blow off some steam and perhaps "go and smell the roses" as alluded to in those Travelocity commercials. You might find some roses somewhere along the nature trail outside the park, but you won't find any inside this park. In fact, the plantation within the grounds isn't as abundant, which shouldn't come off as surprising since I previously mentioned how small the park is. However, there is plenty enough open space to hold a nice summer camp, which the City of Lakewood does annually. I personally think Rynerson Park would be a better place to hold a summer camp as it would allow for so much more activities in the wider, more open space just on the other side of the San Gabriel River. But then again, Monte Verde does have an amphitheater and even a fire ring, neither of which is found at Rynerson. The park has a lodge called the S. Mark Taper Foundation Vista Lodge, which I suppose you could compare to a ski resort lodge minus the fact that you're not skiing in the park lol. I also suppose it's used pretty frequently for special events, and you'll know that from a sign at the entrance indicating that there is a private event going on. The nature trail inside the park is about a quarter mile long. There's a fair amount of vegetation, but not a whole lot that you'll likely see more on the nature trail outside the park instead. So far, I've been to the park three times. The first time, the front gate was closed, so all I could do was explore the West San Gabriel River Parkway Nature Trail. The second time, there was a baby shower at the event, and I didn't want to intrude. The third time, there was another private event, but it had just ended, so I got to take a couple laps on the nature trail inside the park. It was nice to explore for once, but like I alluded to earlier, don't expect a whole lot. In fact, one of the placards was completely worn out, and I could barely read the title of that placard. There's also a barbecue/picnic area by the lodge, which would be perfect for those summer camps that I mentioned earlier in this review. I can also see the grounds being used a lot by organizations like boy scouts and girl scouts. However, it'd be hard to play a pickup game of soccer there; that's more of a Rynerson thing if that makes sense. Overall, it's not a bad park to go to, but depending on your interests, you may find it pales in comparison to your neighborhood park. I believe it could use a revamp because the park looks like it has seen better days. Hopefully, that will happen sooner rather than later!

Happy Easter, YELPers!…read more Rynerson Park located in Lakewood, CA is a total hit with friends and family! From the spacious grounds, plentiful play areas, and even a dog run area, this park has it all. Today, Easter Sunday 2026, our group of 40 has been having a blast since this morning. The area is clean and well kept, with city workers on site doing light work in the background. Many families are enjoying picnics with one another, sharing dishes, and having a blast looking for Easter eggs. Just as we did last year, we engaged with a neighboring family for a fun game of volleyball. This has been great! There is plenty of parking available in the lot, with several spots being designated for handicap parking. No stairs or steps are needed to access the park and there is an abundance of street parking, as well. For being an outdoor enjoyment area the sound level has not gone above mid and the grounds are well kept and clean. I look forward to our annual picnic for next year, already! xx

The park is huge with a nice play area for kids, a bike path along the riverbend, and plenty of parking. It looks like they also have a dedicated area for you to take your dogs if you choose to do so. They also have a baseball field here too!
