I grew up a mile from Lee's,so I go back to 1948, not sure it was there,then but in the 50's remember it,then they only had hot dogs foot long Kayem I think to this day and may be hamburgers. now they have lobster rolls clams,scallops and fishermans platters,chowder and such and ice cream. I went to Lee's tonight, based on a recommendation from a friend. I had been craving shrimp, but, sadly, they only partially filled the need. The two shrimp offerings included an appetizer or a plate. I chose the appetizer, adding fries and a drink. I will say in their favor that the food was lavicularly hot and crispy on arrival, a nice change from another establishment in the area who placed gorgeous shrimp in closed up plastic, encouraging the crust to slough off. But, I digress. Back to Lee's. Their carry out tray was the old gray carrier. The shrimp were okay, but the coating was way too thick and the fries lackluster. A bright note - the cocktail sauce was great! They should market that stuff. Just enough horseradish to zing a bit. Maybe next time I'll stick with the dogs. read more

This was my first visit to Lees. Although this place offers lots of fried seafood, lobster rolls, pulled pork and ice cream, etc, I only tried their hot dogs. I ordered the 2 hot dog and a drink special. The dogs were oversized in length and excellent, perfectly grilled. I enjoyed them thoroughly. The drink accompanying the dogs was in a small cup. It was surprising that this was the drink offering, disappointing. The service was friendly and it did not take too long for the order to arrive. Ambience, well it's all take out, not fancy, been there for decades, I suspect. May try the seafood before they close for the season. Dogs again? Of course. read more

I have a24 year old son with Autism and intellectual disabilities. He loves to go to Lee's. It's our Saturday date night. The chicken and fries are his favorite. And chocolate ice cream with rainbow sprinkles. I get anything from haddock sandwich, Tom boat, salad to hamburgers. We always are treated like family. And they all are so good to my Jack. It's always decorated nicely and clean. Being a solo mom of a child with disabilities is hard financially. But we are grateful that they are also priced within our budget. Don't take the girlfriend for a romantic night out, and don't take the Joneses if you're looking to impress them with ambiance. Most of the dinner patrons I saw were either ordering takeout or just getting food to eat in their cars. But I do recommend going for a quick meal and satisfying fish and chips!! **Best fish and chips** I've had since I was a kid, and that includes on recent trips to Kennebunk, Maine. I took my large family and it was a bit difficult to make our order. The lady ringing us up didn't really help me out too much when I had questions as to portion size, etc. (it's hard to judge how much you need when you're feeding kids! I appreciate guidance from a place in this regard, and just didn't get it here.) In the end, I had to order some more at the pick-up window, and the lady on that end was quite helpful and nice about it (not clear whether the mis-order was my fault or theirs). But everyone was satisfied at the end of the meal. Hamburger - meh. Hot dogs - didn't taste them but they were long and properly dressed and my son enjoyed them. Mac n cheese was a hit with the kiddos although unremarkable to my adult palate. But the fish and chips!! Yes. One note: they have "fish and chips" and they have "fish nuggets and chips." Now that I know, it's no big deal. But for a first-timer, that was a little annoying/confusing. The "Fish and chips" is a large fillet, all one piece. If you want more crusty/crispiness, you'll want the nuggets. I would have given 5 stars if the ordering process had just been a bit easier and if the surroundings were more pleasant. read more

We wanted to take my folks out for their anniversary and originally planned to hit Kimballs out in Lancaster, but my mom kept talking about "this little place in Baldwinville that has really good food, so we jumped on Rt 2 West and headed to Lee's. Note that this review covers their food, service, and above and beyond customer service by Jaelynn (apologies if spelling is off). I don't think I had ever ventured to that part of Baldwinville before, so it was nice checking out a new area. When we got there, we had no problem getting a parking spot, and there were a few open picnic tables to eat at, so good start. The food fare is the expected fried food options, burgers, dogs, etc, with a few specials available. I guess we are pretty simple eaters, as we got a couple chicken finger and fish and chips dinners and some onion rings (my mom always needs to try the onion rings everywhere she goes). Prices were quite reasonable ($20 for a lobster roll on the menu is a deal and a half nowadays, almost got that actually). It took maybe 10 minutes for our food to be ready, and we were off to our picnic table. My dad, the ultimate connoisseur of fish and chips, said it was one of the bigger pieces of fish he's had, and one of the best. I concurred, even though I think I should have gone for the lobster roll deal (next time maybe, but I kind of have this thing about getting lobster rolls near an ocean, I dunno). Out two year old daughter didn't have much of an opinion on the food since she kept checking out what other people were eating. My wife and mom both enjoyed their meals, and the onion rings were a two thumbs up. In short, good meals, good prices, and a nice little spot for a meal. This is where things got interesting and where the customer service part came in... When we got home to Westminster, my wife couldn't find her wallet, and we started searching everywhere, with no luck. I just jumped back in my car with my trusty sidekick doggo Larry, and we headed back over to Lee's, fingers crossed. We called Lee's initially and they hadn't had anyone turn it in, so I figured I'd at least do a look around. I took a look around where we ate, ordered, picked up, and threw trash away, with no luck, so I checked back inside and asked again if anyone left a wallet with them, which is where I talked to Jaelynn (again apologies if I misspelled name). She showed sincere concern for the missing wallet, and took down our info in case someone returned it. The last thing I could think of was that maybe we accidentally threw it away with our trash, so I asked her if I could maybe take the trash bag home to search threw. She actually came out with me to figure out which trash we used, and because she knew what we ordered, she helped me identify the likely trash container based on the containers the food was packaged in (she's good). Although she offered me gloves and was going to help, I just opted to take the trash home instead of sifting through everything with diners around. I thanked her and left, and within 15 minutes I was back home again digging through the trash remnants (my dog looked like he was helping me but really was trying to find any morsel he could. Nothing... Well, I came back inside to tell my wife the bad news, but then I saw her purse on the island and decided to check one last time (note my wife never loses stuff, it's usually me). It had to be somewhere, and wouldn't you know it, her slim black wallet was in a slit of the purse that evaded our searches. All is well that ends well, so we called Lee's and Jaelynn happened to answer, and was so happy for us that we found the wallet. I know this was too long of a review, but for me it is worth the time noting our overall experience there. I came to Lee's after reading about top hot dog stands in the area. It's been a while since I've had a kraut dog so that's what I ordered. The dog was undercooked and barely had the scorch marks of the grill. The dog seemed to have been made by someone who doesn't like sour kraut as there was barely a forkful on the bun. You're only given one chance to make a good first impression and I was not impressed so therefore I won't be back. read more

I tries the two dogs small coke,the price was a bit much for what you get, the drink was more a kiddie size than small. The hotdog was ok. Used to love their seafood chowder. Now, seems as if they have substituted the seafood with 75% imitation. I don't mind paying for real seafood, but not imitation crap at real seafood prices. Probably ate as many hot dogs from here as everyone else that lives in the area. Always enjoyed them until recently. Last year I felt the quality was lacking. It seems to have carried over to this year.When I placed my order I literally walked around the building to The pickup window and my order was already waiting. The hot dogs seem to be pre cooked and stockpiled. A little slimy, a little odd tasting, and really wrinkled. Buns were somewhat toasted and a little greasy. I've been here throughout the years multiple times and there isn't much that can be expected from this place. They offer full foot-long hot dogs and a seafood menu. Nothing exotic just the usual hot dog/seafood place menu. There is also never a shortage of girls behind the counter because that's all the owner will hire. I decided to try the 2 Hot dog and a drink for $5.80. It didn't come with fries so I had to order those extra and my total came to 8.08. Everything was cooked well including the perfectly toasted buns. French fries were not recently fried and had been sitting under a heat lamp for who know how many hours. Also, the drink was tiny, think maybe 8 oz. The interior and exterior could use some fixes with broken/dirty windows. It needs paint and sweeping of the exterior as well. This place could do well with a little music and a POS system as well but they do not currently accept credit cards. read more

A Lee's special (2 hot dogs and a large fountain drink), 1 chili dog, chili cheese fries, 9 piece chicken nugget and an additional large fountain drink were $34+. The food is awful. If you're going there solely for the dogs (foot-longs), you'll be fine, the dogs taste good and the buns were toasted nicely. Don't waste your money on anything else from the food menu though; you'll be sorely disappointed. The chili, clearly from a can, tasted passable in the dog because it had something else to help make it taste better but on the chili cheese (sauce, not real cheese) fries, it couldn't be disguised. The fries under that mess could've used about another 30 seconds or so in the fryer. As for the chicken nuggets...just don't. They were McDonald's-style McNugget-type nugs, only the real things taste way better and I'm no fan of those at all. Im really can't understand why they're such a local legend. They could take that reputation, start serving better food, and draw many more repeat customers as well as those who just happen to wander by and try it out because as it is now, I doubt many folks come back a second time. We've been going to Lee's for 20 years or so. We go for the dogs. I've had the other stuff, but the dogs are why we go. After 20 years, you know what you will be getting. We went for the dogs last week. There used to be like 10 cars there when we would go, there was one there when we went this time. We order 2 dogs, onion rings, fries and drinks. We used to come about once a week and order 4 dogs, but they were slipping. I think we went twice last year in total. The good news is the onion rings and the fries were the best I've ever had here. Not the best I've ever had anywhere, but way better here than before. The bad news is, the dogs were not like they used to be. They had it down to an art form, right to the little squiggle of mustard on top. The dogs we got, the buttered rolls were barely grilled, the squiggle not to attractive looking. The dogs looked ok, my gf thought they were not the same. The big problem is the fluorescent green crappy tasting relish. I noticed this when the new people took over, they changed the relish. Anyways, there's like 1/8 cup of this crap in our rolls. the amount of relish in the roll was equal to, or larger than the size of the dog. You couldn't taste the dog, just relish. I ended up pulling that puppy out and chucking the relish filled roll. There's just no love in these things here anymore. I mean, there's no business and you can't get the dogs right? I did say we go there for the dogs, right? The place looks better, it's painted better, the tables are better. It was a long wait for fast food and we were the only customers. Lee's Hot Dogs in Baldwinville, MA is the best hot diggity dog I have ever eaten, and that includes Nathan's and other Coney Island dogs, and Chicago Red Hots and other Chi-town dogs. Buttered and toasted split New England buns, Kayem franks, foot long, thin, cooked to order on the grill (about a ten minute wait after you order) with relish on the bottom, add mustard, and you're good to go. Delish! The prices have been going up recently. My brother and I ate there in September 2014 and a Lee's Special, which is two dogs and a small Coca-Cola (little more than a dentist cup) was nearly six smackeroulians! And we eat two Lee's Specials--each! Geez, we could have eaten at The Ground Round for less! The little shack that is Lee's is poorly kept. Seriously, they don't even weed-whack the leafy green weeds growing up in the parking lot and around the edge of the paint-peeled building. It's pathetic, actually. It's such a crummy place, to put it mildly. The parking lot is where everyone eats, no inside dining. You sit at one of two sticky wooden picnic tables back by the dumpster and an unkempt storage barn with the doors wide open (you'll blow chunks if you look inside, so skip it), or you eat in your clean car by the dusty railroad tracks and watch other hapless customers negotiate the gauntlet of overflowing trash cans and Jolly Green Giant-sized weeds to get into the door of Lee's. Frankly, that's half the fun, watching people trip on the curb and dump their box of greasy vittles right onto the asphalt. By the look on their face, you'd think someone just stole their wallet. Then they go back inside and grab another fifty dollar bill and order again, hoping the family didn't see their little tragedy; little do the kids know, there goes this weekend's candlepin bowling money on the duplicate order! On a hot summer evening, the upturned ice cream cones dumped in the parking lot are more numerous than pylons in Route 2 roadway construction. It's a gas! You order in a cramped, spider-webby galley area toward the front of Lee's "stand", where you are elbow-to-elbow with some of the most strange people in all of Massachusetts--real local yokels. Then, someone you can barely see takes your order from inside a sliding screen window, they snatch your money while you squint to see if it's someone you know in there (it never is unless you happen to be the mayor of Baldwinville), then bam, they slam the window down hard. Man, they love slamming that little window. You mill about in the tiny waiting space, jockeying to breathe amongst the people that reek of cigarettes, while you pray for them to call your number (never anything as personal as a name, Lord forbid!). Suddenly, the window will slide open a few inches and they'll holler "6682. I said, 6-6-8-2!" and you step up like that fellow in A Clockwork Orange: "viddy a wee bit of the old ultra-violence, me brotha?" that guy. As if a prisoner retrieving gruel from a cell door, the faceless will shove your oily, six-dollar cardboard box of two foot-longers and a Coke at you. You're so ashamed by then at the ghastly upkeep of this once-loved hot dog shack that you skiddaddle back to the parking lot with your tail between your legs, but only after grabbing a fistful of those playing card-sized, see-through paper napkins from an often-empty chrome dispenser. It's your goal and intention never to enter that ordering galley again, but your success will be short-lived: once the kids find out there's no catsup on their dogs, you'll be back in the thick of things, creeping around looking for catsup packets and getting elbowed in the gut by people a lot bigger and scarier than you who eat A LOT more catsup than your five-year old. I'm making it sound real cute, eh. Well, it's not a place you're going to take the bride for your anniversary, I'll say. Unless she's the bride of Frankenstein--and that would make you a monster. So, how in the name of heaven and heck can I give it four stars? Did I mention the hot dogs?! Fried haddock. Lobster rolls. French fries. It's all on the menu. It's no good. You should get the hot dogs. Period. Unless you want a belly ache from "red tide", stick with what they've been known for--hot dogs. For fifty years, it's been hot dogs that have kept this place in beeswax. Have you ever heard of anyone saying "Let's hit Lee's for some more of that awesome haddock?" Of course not. Why? Myself, my husband, my toddler and newborn went here for lunch. We ordered a tom boat and 2 kraut dogs with the works. When we got home we realized we were given 2 plain hot dogs. I called and they said they were out of kraut. So I requested 1 chili dog and 1 cheese dog with the works, including onion. My husband drove back down there and had me speak to them again so they knew the order. When he got home the hotdogs were still incorrect. 1 plain chili and 1 plain cheese. I called and spoke with a very rude gentleman who said I got what I ordered. I explained I ordered the works. I sad with a newborn and toddler we couldn't keep driving down to get new hot dogs. He hung up on me. My husband called and the same gentleman yelled at him that he got what he ordered and proceeded to hang up on him when my husband asked for a credit. Clearly, they cannot get orders correct and suck at customer service. We were hoping for a quick, good lunch.
