We had a great experience at KRO's to celebrate a birthday. We needed a location that would take a reservation for 8 people that was a good central location between Boston and Western Mass, and this was perfect. The space and atmosphere inside the restaurant is cozy and welcoming, as are the staff. Our waitress, Sheena, was very friendly and patient with us the whole time. We brought our own cake to surprise the birthday guy, and she kindly helped me hide it and brought it out when it was time for dessert. Half our table ordered pancakes and they were delicious! I highly recommend the maple bacon whipped butter because that is just something you don't see on a menu everyday. The other yummy plates on the table were the Hungry Man plate (eggs cooked perfectly sunny side up - really good potatoes!), the crispy fried chicken sandwich, and the chicken wrap (not photographed). It is a beautiful drive along route 2 and they have picnic tables outside for a sunny day. Great selection of drinks and we took home a couple of their handmade blueberry pop tarts to enjoy later. Food: I order the shrimp special of the day. Service: Before I ordered I asked the waitress what kind of sauce was on the pasta, she said "a cream sauce ". When I received it, it was very dry and not very flavorful. There was no cream sauce, just a light coating of sun dried tomato oil, no garlic. I mentioned this, but didn't have her bring it back as we were in a hurry. My friend enjoyed the turkey panini, Ambiance: My friend and I were seated in the patio room, it was crowded and very loud. We usually sit in the fireplace room. We did ask to be moved, but there were no tables in the fireplace room available. We usually stay for coffee & dessert, but it was too noisy. I did buy a whoopie pie "to go". I was disappointed in my meal, based on the "cream sauce" that I was told would be on this dish. I would have spent my $17 ordering something else had I known there would be no sauce. Prices reflect the current state of the economy, around $17 - $18 for a sandwich or lunch portion entree. I've been here many times and had a great dining experience. Overall, it is definitely a restaurant worth checking the drive, the food is all made from scratch. read more

Definitely surprised at how great this place was. I got peached ice tea and it was actually homemade with fresh squeezed peach. The classic benny was light and fresh. The sauce was mostly foamy and a very small hint of lemon... not much flavor but surprisingly good. The english muffin was fluffy and homemade. The only downside were the homefries were waayyy too salty and over seasoned, but cooked tender. The breakfast burrito was HUGE and my partner couldn't even finished it and he loved it. Toasted Bread was freshly baked and toasted perfect. The hot sauce tasted like a sun-dried tomato sauce, it was delicious, but definitely not hot at all (and Im a baby when it comes to spice). Everything was so good! The service, the food, the drinks & the ambience. Love the rustic look. We sat on the porch & even the floor design was beautiful. Had the fall margarita which tasted wonderful!! I had the ricotta flatbread & would definitely get that again! Also tried the lemon blueberry brioche French toast. Couldn't believe the size of the serving. Both meals looked amazing! The guy at the next table asked what the French toast was. He was like what is that?? Very impressed. We also got 2 chocolate chip chai cookies to go. Definitely should have gotten a few more of those!! We're had three experiences here which have left me a little perplexed. Starting off to say: none of the criticism here is for front of house. The waitstaff are friendly and very fun, they get top marks from me. All my comments here come down to the food. The first time we went was with guests staying from out of town, and it was stellar! It was a weekend so a little busy, but I never felt like we waited long. Everything is handmade, delicious and full of flavor. I got a wrap with chorizo, and it was quite nice (not very spicy but oh well, the hot sauce was good). The chorizo looked homemade, but it was recognizable - red, a little spicy and with all those flavor notes you'd expect. I say this because the following times were not the case. The next time, we got takeout with two breakfast sandwiches with chorizo. Got them home, opened them up - and it's very clearly regular sausage. Brown-grey, tastes herby, no spice at all. We were disappointed, but figured it was just in error. No big deal. The rest of the food is good - biscuits, homefries whatever. It's maybe not as great as I would hope for how much it costs but it's good! Third time we figure we'd go in house in case there is a mistake. Order, get sandwiches and - it's the same brown meat! Talking to the waitress, she assures us that is the chorizo, but goes back to ask just in case. Comes back to confirm that's it. ...okay. I don't know if the prep-cook or cooks have changed or what, but that's definitely not what we ate the first time, because if it was I'm not sure we would have bothered to come back (not because it was bad mind you, just because it was "okay" and it's a bit of a drive from where we are). People rave about the baked goods and they are very good on that front, but I'm hesitant to make a drive all the way out there when certain aspects seem a little more hit-or-miss. read more

My husband, four kids, and I have been going to this Location since we built our house 24 years ago. It was amazing when it was Countey Mischief with Gail running it and it is a great place today as well. Karen is very personable and when she is in the kitchen cooking you can tell there's a little extra love going into the food. My husband went yesterday with a few of our kids and he insisted we needed to go again today. The chicken and brioche French toast is one of our favorites. Sara is our favorite waitress. She's wonderful. It's so nice to have somewhere to go so close to home. If you haven't been, you need to visit! They are also hiring a new chef if anyone is interested! read more

The homemade English muffin alone was worth the trip from Leominster! The home fries were cooked perfectly and the hash is real corned beef not the stuff from the can. The coffee was better than average for a restaurant (I drink it black so I know!) The raspberry linzer cookie was ok, I wouldn't get it again but I ate the whole thing. Overall the atmosphere is very relaxed and was perfect for a slow breakfast and lingering afterward in conversation. I would def return and try other baked goods next time. read more

I had the garden salad with delicata squash and maple vinaigrette dressing that was excellent with an order of fries. My fries were cold and were immediately replaced with fresh hot ones. I also had unsweetened iced tea. The down side, (this is important) the salad was $2.50 or $2.75, the iced tea (with out free refills ) was $3.00 and it was served in a wine glass that amounted to 3 sips !! remember, no free refills. We didn't have dessert, but they all looked delicious ! Please serve iced tea in a large water glass for $3.00, and for $3.00 there should be free refills, also for soda.. read more

Quality ingredients! The ingredients were from local places and you can tell everything is homemade or locally sourced. We had breakfast even though it was lunch time. They serve both all day. #win. I ordered the classic Benedict and he ordered the poutine bowl. My eggs were not poached and were instead undercooked, sunnyside eggs. I only like the yolk; so, I separated the whites (snot) and ate the homemade English muffins and awesome sliced smoked ham (not store deli meat-it was delicious) with the yolk I could salvage. The homefries looked so good but lacked seasonings (garlic maybe would help). It was salty though and the hollandaise was more like a gravy, but still pretty good- better than some others out there. His bowl he couldn't finish it because it was salt on salt on salt. He loves salt so much he normally adds it to everything. But there was no reprieve. He said he wouldn't order it again. (Cheddar crumbles, fries, sausage gravy with an egg). The menu is fun and we will definitely be back because we had a hard time deciding. The drinks selection is also great. Arnold Palmers, fresh blueberry lemonade are what we chose. It would have been a five except those few little things. The service was great. The experience was fun. My meatball sandwich was so lacking. Two and a half small meatballs cut in half on the entire sandwich. 3/4 of the sandwich was bread and cheese. I wish to comment on KRO's on the Common for their catering of private events. On June 1, 2024 I attended a wedding in Phillipstown at a private residence. The catering was absolutely spectacular. The entire event was out in the back yard under a huge tent. The catering personnel were all dressed in black uniforms and worked silently efficiently and unobtrusively to assure that everyone had everything they needed and whisked away any empty plates or cups etc. They had a wide selection of delicious appetizers and beverages which everybody raved about while awaiting the main course. The main course consisted of barbecued chicken, Beef Brisket, and Pulled Pork along with many side dishes such as Mac and cheese, Caesar Salad, Potato salad, Pasta Verde and more followed by various scrumptious deserts including fresh fruits, Home Made cookies and Cupcakes. I have been to many catered events in the past and this was the very best. I give KRO's Catering services my highest recommendation. read more

WOW! Went here for breakfast for the first time today and --no kidding--- had the best breakfast of my life. (And I'm O L D. LOL!) I got the salmon benedict made with FRESH salmon and no binders. The hollandaise was homemade. The English muffins were homemade, too. The owner/chef understates her virtues, IMO. I ordered my eggs over-easy. Dark yellow, barely congealed yolk, but not runny. A PITA order, but there was only pleasant confirmation. Not an eye roll in sight. ;) No restaurant has ever gotten it right, until today. Perfection. The fruit cup was fresh, delicious and RIPE, The melon was soft, juicy, and aromatic as if I'd been eating it fresh off the vine, not the usual hard, tasteless melons one often experiences in February. The woman I suspected to be the owner, was, in fact. Karen. She was bussing tables, seating customers and still stopped to chat when we raved. Our server, Sam, was delightful and attentive.
