My friend and I went to Shake n Dog company, not expecting much. However, as soon as we walked into the store, we were astonished by its beauty and its coziness. After the amazing impression, we decided to take a look at the menu. Once I went to order, the sweetest cashier took my order. The food was served neatly, with such the same retro aesthetic as the restaurant. To be honest, the French fries were a little salty, but they were delicious nonetheless. Also, the lemonades turned out a bit sour, yet we loved them. The sandwiches, the hot dog, everything was tasty and flavorful. And don't let me talk about the coconut shake I had! I am a hot-dog lover! I've been to this spot maybe two years ago, and they have a nice variety of hot dogs, which I love. However, I was told they were closed after arriving just before closing (a minute). I've been to mom and pop shops all over the country as a U.S. Navy Sailor, and never have I not been served, even after entering an establishment after closing. The place is small but large, enough for 20-25. The walls are covered in local sports team memorabilia, as well as areas with pics of celebs eating hot dogs, the Three Stooges, and old license plates. Tables have an industrial vibe. The service was excellent with the gentleman who tended the register pointing us to hand held menus as the one on the screen had flipped. He also brought us our shakes and hot dogs to the table. The food was incredible. The hot dogs the have are served the way they are in other states. My wife had a Carolina Dog with spicy chili and cool Cole slaw. I had a Hawaiian with pulled pork bits and pineapple. We traded half and loved both. My wife got a chocolate lovers shake that included a good size piece of fudge. We found Shake N Dog last year on a trip to GWL. We were craving something sweet, and this came up on Yelp. Let me tell you - freakin go. The shakes are delicious and HUGE. The hot dogs are delicious and the fries are salty and perfect!! Indoors is insanely clean, the bathrooms are spotless - and plenty of room for large groups! Once you walk in, the menus are to your left. We looked at the menus and ordered. My group of five (2 adults, 3 children) ordered 2 orders of plain hot dogs and fries, 2 orders of a regular hamburgers and fries, a salad and 3 kid shakes and 2 regular shakes for a total is $95 dollars. We ended up at this location, because we are visiting Great Wolf Lodge which is 10 mins away. I called them previously and asked if the hot dogs were pork or beef and they advise 80/20 (something like that) - 80 percent pork/20 percent beef (which is why I ordered the salad (lol) It wasn't busy when we walked in. Only two tables were occupied. We sat down and waited for our order. Our orders came out and the kids were excited by the looks of the shakes. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I took a bite of the burger and thought it was a bit salty and one of the kids thought their fries were salty as well. The reason why 4 stars and not 5: When I received my Cobb salad, I waited for my dressing until I realized I wasn't getting it. I got up and asked for it. Half way into my salad, I realized "hey, I'm supposed to have avocado on this salad". I go up to counter again and asked if they ran out (maybe they forgot to mention). A male possibly the owner/manager, asked if the salad didn't have any and I answered no. He and the cashier were apologetic and less than a minute or two I had my avocados. We ended with a restroom visit and it was very clean, the overall establishment is very clean. read more

My girlfriend was out of town this Sunday so I got to try a new spot for lunch, and rather than go to somewhere I have never been to before, I decided that I would try Shake N Dog again. I make this distinction because I believe the ownership shifted since the last time I came here, and it seems like the quality has only gone up! I ordered two hotdogs to go, though the inside of the restaurant is clean and pleasant: vintage photographs, sports memorabilia, 80's hits playing, an abundance of stickers, and a video game cabinet. My food was packed up nicely, with nothing shifting around inside while I brought it home (which makes me believe this would be a great lunch break pickup). The dogs I got both came with a side of fries. I ordered the Michigan Red Hots (a spicy meat sauce, onion, and mustard), and a Seattle Dog (jalapeño, onion, cream cheese, sriracha). The hotdogs themselves are plump, and the bread is perfectly quilty and soft. I couldn't pick a favorite out of the two, but I can say that both excelled at what they were going for. The more traditional Michigan was salty and spicy in all the right ways, and the Seattle was approachably eclectic in its unique flavor (I definitely recommend trying it). While one may anticipate the fries at a hotdog spot being sort of an after thought, but the fries here are the closest thing to a McDonalds fry in the absolute best way. I wish I had tried the shakes to give a more full review but I can honestly say that this place definitely surpassed expectations and I highly recommend it for a lunch with your kids or if you're looking for something new in the area. read more

I visited Shake-N-Dog on a very rainy and chilly Tuesday during the lunch hour. There were two diners finishing up and another three people entered while I was there. I was greeted by a very pleasant but not overly enthusiastic employee. She patiently answered my questions about the dogs and the shakes. I ended up ordering the daily hot dog special, the sloppy joe dog ($4.75). I also got a "freak" mounds bar milkshake for $9. When my hot dog came to the table, I was genuinely surprised by what I saw. The bun was on its side allowing the toppings to fall out and the bun to dog ratio was off. The bun swallowed up the hot dog. The small streak of "sloppy joe" sauce was barely enough to justify the name. I've always thought that sloppy joe was comprised of ground meat, onions, seasoning, and a tomato based sauce so that's what I was expecting. The version at Shake-N-Dog was just manwich sauce according to the co-owner Shaun and a sprinkle of grated cheese on top. Needless to say, the hot dog was very underwhelming. Now, to the "freak" shake. Based on pics on yelp, I imagined a massive, amazing shake. While the shake was good, it wasn't worth $9. Basically there was chocolate ice cream, milk, chocolate syrup, coconut, and whipped cream. A small, but delicious, brownie topped it. I wish there had been more brownies and larger straws to get all the thick coconut up from the bottom. Perhaps putting a few pieces of the mounds candy bar on top would make this look more impressive...perhaps. Shake-n-Dog has a good concept but the execution needs work. They didn't deliver what was expected or what I paid for with either the sloppy joe dog or "freak shake". I got a simple regular-sized hot dog from the package and a chocolate shake blended with coconut flakes (see pics). I could've made both at home easily for much less and added the same bagged chips. Other specialty hot dog places that I've been to have wowed me...this place did not. read more
