Since the pandemic it seems that the veterinary care I have received in Hawaii has been somewhat impersonal. I was surprised by Dr. Gulliver's highly personal and patient treatment style. I almost hesitate to post this because Dr. Gulliver and his team are already so busy! But they deserve a huge shout-out for the exceptional care they've given our senior doggie daughter (14+ years old). We were referred to Dr. Gulliver by a friend when we were searching for someone to evaluate a large lump on her front leg. By that point, I had lost confidence in our previous veterinary clinic. There were constantly different young veterinarians, and we could never see the same doctor consistently. I realized how much I value continuity of care, especially for a senior pet. From our very first visit, I knew in my gut that Dr. Gulliver was the real deal. He's incredibly experienced, knowledgeable, compassionate and an outstanding surgeon. He tested & diagnosed the large lump as cancerous and successfully removed it the following week. Knowing he regularly performs surgeries gave us great confidence that she was in skilled hands. She is cancer free today. Since then, Dr. Gulliver has been our dog's veterinarian. He's cared for her through UTIs and has been thorough about running tests to evaluate her kidneys and liver whenever something didn't seem right. A special thank you also goes to Jamie, the office manager. She keeps the office running smoothly, is incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely cares about every patient and their family. So for ongoing treatment they mixed up a number of medications: Antiboitic, anti-inflammatory. But Kitty is putting on weight. She still prefers to eat kibble. Her bad teeth hasn't stopped her from eating. I had to bring her home as I couldn't get the medication twice a day for a week. It's been getting better. I just can't believe that all the other vets prescribed her a neurological pain killers that made her loopy and didn't work. I'm glad I finally found a vet that can address the problem. read more

We had visited here last year for a check up for my cat everything seemed fine. The first time visiting it was quick and easy. However this time we arrived promptly 10mins before our scheduled appointment @1030am. We entered and was greeted by the lady at the desk. Upon walking in there was a very very unpleasant odor that resonated throughout the entire office! I thought at first it was just because one of the workers left the back door or something open but as we continued to wait...close to 30mins to be seen the smell did not go away! Office smell was very unclean/unpleasant and we waited kind of long. However, I did like the overall vibe of the Veterinarian he was very thorough in the check up and very explanatory! We got a vaccination for our cat and with the check up the total came out to be just over $100 pretty reasonable price for a yearly check up! read more

This has been a rough year. My dad passed away and soon after our family dog, Max was battling cancer with a big tumor in his mouth. Dr. Gulliver explained his Max's condition and was very informative. He had surgery at the end of December but the tumor grew back in less than 2 months! We were hoping the surgery would buy him more time. We were advised with options and decided if Max was willing to fight, we would do anything to ease his pain. He did one round of chemo but it was taking a toll on him. During the process Dr, Gulliver and staff were so supportive with making him feel comfortable. We finally had to make the hardest decision to let him go. We cried our hearts out but couldn't bear to see him suffer. Its been a couple of months and we miss Max dearly. Located across from Safeways in the Waimalu Plaza Shopping Center. The parking lot is shared by all the Storefronts in the Plaza. You might not find parking near the clinic when its busy but your sure to find parking in the lot. They have some great business hours being open even on Saturdays which is a rarity. Ive been here twice with my doberman both times because I was worried about my dogs health. The staff is very likeable and friendly. The doc impressed me fo real. He is knowledgable and does a great job at explaining what he is doing. Hes also personable too. I have met some vets that are just stone cold on the island. He answered all the questions I had and gave me some good insight that only a person with years of experience would have. Never once felt like they were trying to get more out of me. Doc is a chill guy for sure. Next time I go Im gonna write down a list of all the shit I want to ask him before I go. Hehe The pricing here is very affordable when compared to 3 other clinics I have been too. I usually make sure to get my dog at least Heartworm Preventatives. I asked about a more cheaper alternative which they had as well! Price shocked me cause other places charged me alot, Ive gotten a 2 month supply for the same price as 6 months at another clinic in the same area. They offer a wide variety of services but so far Ive only had regular exams for my dog. Most likely gonna be my go to Clinic in the future. Check up exam cost me $49. If your worried about your family pet and want a professional opinion and your moneys worth look no further. Also I could just tell he really loves animals by the way he treated my dog. Dr. Gulliver was very good with our cat (Rusty) calmed him down and was very caring and gentle with him. Took him in cause he vomited up some worms and wanted to make sure that they get all the worms out, he gave him a deworm pill, so easily, something that we would have a hard time with and he was fine. Unprofessional, he signed my dogs papers without having his license update, USDA called him to tell him he wasn't allowed to sign those papers and he never called me back. Thank to USDA in sacramento knew my issue and they contacted me personally and told me that my dogs cant travel because this doctor doesn't have the license and he did not update it during the weekend, he did not wanted to give the money back untill my husband went there and ask for it. I had to do all paperwork in starbucks because the lady in the front desk did not know how to do it. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE AT LEEWARD PET CLINIC I should preface my bad experience at Leeward Pet Clinic with Debbie only who works at the front desk and not the clinic as a whole because I am not a client there. We adopted a dog who previously went to Dr. Gulliver and needed to obtain his medical records as a request from the pet insurance company for enrollment. Being realistic about the situation, I completely understood that pet medical records are confidential but we were having some issues trying to get the records released from the previous owner. Trying to find a solution, I took the signed Bill of Sale down to Debbie showing that the dog was now legally ours but she said the records still need to be released by the previous owner and also said they would try to contact the owner as well. A week later, we were taking the dog to our vet so I called Leeward Pet Clinic to see if I could possibly get an idea of what vaccinations the dog already had so we would not over vaccinate. I talked to Jamie and she was really nice and very helpful and was able to pass on vaccinations and dates. Three weeks later, we finally got noticed that we could pick up the vet records for our insurance company. Upon my visit, Debbie was already perturb that I was there and seemed like she was trying to find things to do in order to keep me waiting (given the fact that there were no customers in the office). For some reason, she was already irate about the situation and starting telling (and then yelling at) me that they "COULD NOT GIVE OUT MEDICAL RECORDS WITHOUT THE OWNERS CONSENT!" Debbie further told me that I was ALWAYS a problem and that I was ALWAYS rude to her and Jaime (the girl who was nice and helpful to me). Debbie had the attitude that since I was not a client there and spending money; it was a waste of time trying to help me. Then she pulled out 4 pieces of paper with just shot dates and a few notes, threw it on the counter and told me it would be $8.00. I was baffled & frustrated by this point and asked her "really $8.00 for sticking 4 pieces of paper in a copier?" Based on principal, I told her I could just take pictures and send the digital copy to the insurance company. She continued yelling and told me I could not get the records and to "GET THE HELL OUT OF THE OFFICE - I AM NOT GOING TO HELP YOU". She started walking to the back (turned around) grab the vet records and threw them at me. Luckily I caught Dr. Gulliver as I was leaving the office and told him what had happened. It is unfortunate that one bad seed can ruin a reputation of a small vet clinic such as Leeward Pet Clinic. I would NEVER take our dogs or cats there - there is no accountability and if you get on Debbie's bad side your animal will be doomed. BTW: I went to our vet across the street VCA Family Animal Hospital to add the records to the file and the first thing they asked is "would you like a copy for your records". 180 difference in customer service and professionalism. read more

I have been a fan of Dr. Gulliver for years. He has treated three of my dogs. I have only two now. They are actually happy to be there and don't have that usual fear that I used to get with my other dogs. I remember when it came time to let go of our dog of 17 years.
