Another excellent experience at Cal Dental with Dr. Sean Sunyoto. This time, I went in for a routine dental cleaning. The office has been taking extremely thoughtful COVID-19 precautions so I felt safe that I was in the best hands. In spite of all these precautions, the entire staff remains friendly and welcoming. Dr. Sunyoto has great chair side manner - he's friendly, personable, and thorough. Most importantly, he doesn't make you feel like he's dragging what's a rather uncomfortable, invasive, yet important part of dental care. I stumbled upon this group almost by accident. I was actually hunting down Dr. John Kim, who had done miracle work taking out my wisdom teeth a few years ago. I recently had some jaw pain and immediately looked up Dr. Kim's location (Cal Dental in LA) and was disappointed to discover he wasn't there anymore. But I was determined. A quick Google search told me he still practiced at Cal Dental Group in Pasadena, so I made a call. They told me he was only there certain days of the week but were kind enough to squeeze me in for a same-day appointment with Dr. Sean Sunyoto for my jaw pain. I was initially hesitant to be seen by anyone else, but they assured me I would be in good hands and said they would reach out to Dr. Kim to see if he could come by if needed. The moment I walked in the clinic and was greeted by everyone I was immediately put at ease. The front desk staff, technicians, assistants, and Dr. Sunyoto himself all were incredibly kind and patient with me, who initially was so adamant about only being seen by Dr. Kim. They actually told me Dr. Kim is in semi-retirement and I immediately felt shame for even trying to get him to drive all the way out to Pasadena. After comprehensive x-rays, Dr. Sunyoto assured me there wasn't any serious with my bone/jaw/teeth, but likely I was grinding/clenching my teeth a lot due to stress. It's one of those things where someone tells you something and you reflect and think and go, "Oh, yeah, I probably am really stressed from work/pandemic/state of our nation/world." While I was there, though, I was able to grill Dr. Sunyoto with all of my dental questions because, to be frank, I've been an awful nonexistent dental patient. He was super patient in answering all of my questions and is genuinely a really nice and fun human being. The timing seemed right and after some consultation I decided to finally start my Invisalign journey to fix a few of my stubborn crooked teeth! I had braces in high school but pretty much abandoned my retainer in my early 20s and some of my teeth started to devolve into their crooked ways. Dr. Sunyoto was super frank with me when I pressed him with questions about (cheaper) alternatives such as Candid, Smile Direct, etc. and after my first Invisalign fitting, I get what he's saying now. I think most people think, "Oh, my teeth are crooked, I just need to wear an aligner and I'll be fine!" but there is SO much more that goes on behind the scenes. Sometimes your teeth need to be shaved to make room for the teeth to straighten. If they straighten and there's not enough room, your teeth can purse out and end up looking worse than before with serious long-term consequences. This is why it's important to have an amazing dentist like Dr. Sunyoto to track your progress to make sure you have dazzling and straight teeth in the end. The day after my Invisalign fitting, Dr. Sunyoto texted me to see how I was doing. I was grateful for his check-in and I'm so glad he's always available to answer any questions via text (I hate talking on the phone haha). The clinic also sends out helpful appointment reminders via text. I also want to give a huge shout out to the lady who handles insurance because she never tries to rip you off but stays true to your plan. I work in healthcare so I know how to read through my Statement of Benefits (SOB) and claims, and she's never been off in any of my transactions thus far. It's a great time to straighten my teeth as we're all required to wear masks during COVID-19. I'm really excited to continue my Invisalign journey with Dr. Sunyoto and his team! read more

I've been extra stupid about my dental hygiene for the last 5 years and I came to Cal Dental with a gaping cavity/hole in my wisdom tooth. I was able to call to schedule an appointment and come in on the same day, then Dr. Sean was able to extract my tooth during that appointment. The process was insanely quick and completely painless. I was looking for a dental office, this is the first to pop up. I called and left a msg the day before for an appointment. I get a call next morning 8:30ish stating they are available for walk in. I made it to the location. It is nice and clean (thank goodness). The young man at the front desk was really nice. The two assistants were really cool, friendly as well very attentive. The doc threw me for a loop because he looks soooo young like someone from boyband. But he does his job well. I had a great experience with this clinic and with Dr. Kim again. I went to see Dr. Kim to the other clinic a week before I came this one. unfortunately he was no longer in that clinic. But I went there anyway just for cleaning. But they wanted to do X-ray as well and told me to fix some cavities right away which will cost over $5,000. (They told me they will give me a discount $3,200 during pandemic) "Discount during pandemic?". like a salesman giving a price to a customer instead of talking to a patient. I had very odd feeling about it. So I started to dig deeper to find Dr. Kim. then found him in Pasadena. It was more than one hour drive but it was worth it. As soon as I went into a little warm house like clinic, I felt relieved when I saws stuff and Dr. Kim's smiling faces. After he examined me carefully, he told me I don't have any cavities needed to be fixed right away. He saved me from being scammed and loosing my tooth. They took me in immediately and not just took x-rays and gave me pain medicine but treated my tooth immediately. They explained everything during the process and I knew exactly what to expect. I'm autistic, have mild tmj dysfunction and major sensory issues. Dr. Sean explained everything and put me as much at ease as any dentist ever has. I was intimidated by the x-ray machine (which swivels around your head while you bite down on a device) but it was quick and painless, which I can't say for past dental X-ray experiences with other providers. I hate mint so he used cherry flavored tooth cleaner. I will never love going to the dentist but I don't mind the idea of going to Dr. Sean again. Also, he used the hooked plaque removal tool but was the most gentle with it that anyone that's cleaned my teeth has ever been. I would recommend him to my family and friends. I called dr seans office foran emergency situation. The crown in my root canal was dislodged and the tooth left behind was not cleaned and taken out by my previous dentist. I was in pain bec it scratched my tongue and was infected to the extent i cannot even drink water. Even my throat was so painful. The office took me even if i arrived close to their closing time . My search for the perfect Dentist is off!! The staff was so friendly and made me feel relaxed and comfortable. Not once did I hear the dreaded, "you're bleeding because you don't floss". I am soooo happy I decided to come here! One of my wisdom teeth had been bothering me for a few months and it got to the point I thought it might be infected. Dr. Sunyoto was able to fit me in ASAP the next morning. He and his staff took excellent care of me throughout the whole process and took all the proper precautionary measures required during the COVID pandemic. After a disastrous experience getting two of my other wisdom teeth pulled at a dentist in NYC, I was extremely hesitant to get this one out but Dr. Sunyoto completely reassured me.
