In short, the job started well but soon deteriorated into skimping on both material and labor. The end result was nothing (with the exception of the garage floor) was finished professionally. I was hopeful because they very promptly responded to my Yelp request and came out to assess the different repair items. Had asked for an estimate for driveway replacement, they responded that it was okay enough to seal it and that sealing would last at least 10 years before cracking - they would be able to combine this as well as all the other repair items (garage, chimney, patio) for $6500. I went with that offer knowing well that the amount typically balloons over the course of the job as contractors find issues that need immediate attention. Little did I know they would take advantage of "finding issues." On day one, during demolition, they told me the existing garage walls were plaster and that the bottom section, which was bowing, would need to be redone - they floated an additional $2800 for just that section. The next day, before anything was signed, they came back and said that fixing only the bottom section would leave the top part unsupported and it would eventually crack. They recommended replacing all the walls with drywall instead, along with resurfacing the concrete, replacing wooden beams if needed, and repainting. This became the second contract - $11,800, replacing the original $2800 proposal, with wording specifying drywall would be installed "where necessary." I paid this in full upon completion, before any of the issues below became apparent. At this price point, the baseline expectation was professional-grade work - not shortcuts, and not corners cut to save time. After they installed the drywall and painted, parts of the paint started cracking. They told me it was because those sections were actually still plaster, and they swore they "didn't know." To prove it, they knocked on the wall and showed me how you could hear the difference. This didn't add up. They had shown me the walls were all plaster on day one, during demolition. It doesn't make sense that only some sections would be plaster while the rest were properly replaced under the $11,800 contract. And if the plaster was that easy to identify by sound, they would have known well before they ever mudded and painted over it - not to mention that cutting into the wall would have exposed the mesh and plaster underneath. In short: they hadn't actually drywalled the full space as the $11,800 contract called for - and their proposed fix was to charge me another $6000 to do the work already covered by that contract. In hindsight, "where necessary" gave them room to decide unilaterally how much of the space actually needed it, without me being able to verify anything once it was painted over. As for the wooden beams included in that $11,800 scope: none were ever replaced, and I don't recall them purchasing any wood for that purpose. Obviously, I said no to paying another $6000 for work that I had already thought was done. Had them just fix the cracks (the paint and mud still cracked after) and just cut my losses. Other issues: - Driveway sealing: parts cracked within days; they resealed once, and cracks reappeared again weeks later - Driveway holes: poured crack filler instead of grinding and properly patching them - Mud/paint application: applied in a single thick layer instead of several thin coats, causing uneven drying and cracking (per an independent handyman's inspection) - Driveway sealing (technique): same issue - applied as one thick coat rather than the recommended thin, built-up layers - Garage wall painting: rushed and inconsistent - several areas have thin coverage or missing paint entirely - Flooring scope: "epoxy resin flooring" ended up being "paint with resin" instead - a downgrade from what was discussed, though the floor itself came out reasonably well - Chimney cracks: covered over rather than filled and repointed - Property respect: workers entered my house without asking to use my stepstool for painting. It was only later, when I came to check in, that they asked me for a ladder - which made their earlier decision to grab my stepstool without permission even stranger. Both stepstool and ladder were left covered in paint and concrete. They also broke both spigot sprinkler head attachments and left dried concrete on my brand new spigot itself. - Garage door: left with dried mud drips despite being asked directly to clean it up Looking back, the pattern is clear: thick single coats on walls and driveway, corners cut on the chimney, cleanup consistently skipped. Drywall alone for a garage this size should run under $1,000 - not $11,800. Their own quote to finish it was just $6,000. Total paid: $18,300. 2 stars, not 1. The only reason it's not lower is that the garage is technically better than before I started.

They got paint on our floors, on our furniture and linens, did not remove switch plates before painting, painted a room the wrong color, got wall paint all over trim. Very sloppy drywall repair and completely unsatisfactory trim woodwork. The company has several crews of workers, so you don't know who you will get. After much (argumentative) back and forth with the company, they did send someone to fix mistakes. Thankfully they sent someone different (Danny) who was honest and skillful. He spent 3 full days fixing the mistakes of the original crew.

As much of a perfectionist as I am, I assumed I'd still need to do some cleanup or additional sanding afterward, but there was literally nothing left to do. Quentin is also one of the nicest contractors I've ever hired. He was meticulous and genuinely cared about doing excellent work. The guys were experts on the ladders despite having a few high, tricky spots to get to. The worksite was clean after each day which I was grateful for as we have a toddler running around. The entire project took 10 days. While it moved fast, it didn't feel rushed and no corners were cut to finish quickly. They even paused the project for 2 days because of rain so that we didn't run the risk of streaky paint. The color that the prior owners picked while nice was a bit too dark for such a small room. They responded to my inquiry the same day and arranged a date and time to stop by and look at the room. Bryan and Andre arrived exactly on time and took a look at the room. Super friendly, patient, and willing to address any questions and concerns. As part of the renovation of the room, I was planning on replacing the carpet and asked him if I should do it before painting the room or after. He strongly suggested to replace the carpet first since the installers tend to scuff the baseboards terribly as they are ripping the old carpet out. I followed his advice and did the carpet first and sure enough the baseboards were in such bad shape after that had I painted I would have had to repaint them. I'm so thankful for that. On the day of the job, Bryan and Andre introduced me to Freddie who would be painting the room for me. Super friendly, professional, and honest. After grabbing the paint, he laid down tarp to cover the brand new carpet and got to work on the walls. It's amazing how quickly he was able to paint this room. During the end of day 1, Freddie called me over and informed me that the two coats of paint that the quoted me for the job would not be sufficient for cover the walls and they will need to grab another can of paint. I asked him how much extra would I need to pay on top of the quote and said nothing. They told me it would take two coats, it didn't, so it was on them to make it right. Freddie told me he already informed Bryan and he would stop by the paint store tomorrow to grab another can of paint on their dime. I wasn't expecting that at all but greatly appreciated it. In the early afternoon of the second day the room was done. I thanked Freddie and waited for the paint to dry before heading down to plan out moving furniture back in. It was then that I noticed that there were some areas in the room that we not completely covered. I reached out to Stephanie and she called back soon after and told me that Freddie would be stopping by again later the SAME day to take a look. True to their word, Freddie stopped by and took a look at the walls now that they were dry and he confirmed the coverage issues. He grabbed paint and did another pass on the walls which removed the old color. After Freddie departed I started to notice that that wall color is much much warmer that I expected. I tried various color temps on the lights to no effect. I took a look at the sample patch in the other room and confirmed that it looked very different and that maybe I might have made an expensive mistake with the paint choice for this room. On a whim I took a few pics and emailed Stephanie with my concerns. I figured at this point they'll I'm crazy and I didn't expect to hear back. After all, I chose the paint color, they painted the room perfectly, their task is done. An hour after I send the email I get a call, it was Bryan. He looked at the photos, and saw the same thing that I have seen, and he and Stephanie have been trying to figure out the root cause. It turned out that there was some miscommunication and an incorrect shade of white was used on the doors and trim causing white walls to become warmer than they should. He apologized and asked to send a couple of painters the following day with the correct paint to address. I already felt bad about Freddie having to come back so I told Bryan not to rush but he insisted. He knew I took the week off to clear out the room to get it painted, and he wanted to get the job done so I have the weekend to put everything back together so I can work on Monday. 7am the following morning Andre and another painter arrived with the correct paint and took a little over an hour to repaint the doors and trim. As soon as I stepped into the room the walls immediately cooled down. And the state of the brand-new carpet after they were done? Spotless. I love the room now. Snow like color make the room feel bigger and more comfortable. It's easily my favorite place in the house. If you're looking for painting service for your home and are within the service area don't bother looking anywhere else. It's not just the quality of their work (which is outstanding), it's their level of accountability. They will do everything to ensure that the job is done and that you are happy. They came back to my home at two separate occasions to complete one room and I didn't pay a penny more than what was initially quoted to me. I cannot recommend Powell enough and can't wait until I can get them to paint other areas of the home.
