I'm going to try to be as fair as I can with this review, but I am not happy. I had some business in Carlsbad, NM, the next town south of here. Carlsbad has become an oil town that is booming so it's nearly impossible to get a hotel room. I found this hotel which seemed reasonable and booked 2 nights. Plans were changing rapidly so when I checked in I immediately told the young lady at the desk that I probably would be staying only one night. No problem she tells me just cancel with the third party provider, Expedia, before check in the following day. I did as instructed, but the manager "Sammie", refused to honor the cancellation even though I followed the hotels instruct. So now I do a little research on this hotel. Turns out it used to be a Holiday Inn Express, but when Holiday Inn wanted them to renovate and upgrade, they said NO, and gave up the Holiday Inn franchise. Turns out they are in financial trouble so I guess any revenue they get in, they'll do anything to keep it, even lie. From what I saw and heard, this hotel won't be around very much longer. On the one night I did stay there were only about five cars in the parking lot, including mine. Look, aside from the need to renovate and upgrade, it's not horrible, you almost feel like you're in an old Holiday Inn. BTW, they still use the old HIE code for wifi access. There breakfast is minimal at best, less than what Holiday inn used to give. On the day we did stay we chose to go to a local restaurant for breakfast. So a lie and bad customer relations got them an extra one night of money. If Sammie can sleep at night then so be it. When I go back I will not be staying there, no way, and I will let everyone one I meet there no about their dishonest practices. read more

Two story hotel without an elevator. Should tell you on booking. Of course, I should have asked for a first floor room. Staying a week with lots to carry upstairs. Add to the misery, no plug for the sink and they don't have any extra. One ice machine for the whole building and it doesn't have any ice. For $5 more a night I could have stayed at the Best Western across the street. Let's see what a horrible breakfast looks like tomorrow. It gets better. No plug for the bathtub so no bath last night. At least the shower worked. I called and asked if they had an exercise room and a pool. The answer was yes. Well, the pool is closed, the exercise room had a treadmill that worked by the weight machine, TV, and clock were out. For breakfast the juice machine was out and they dissent offer bottle juice. I would change motels but I don't have the time to make the transfer. read more

Front desk folks were friendly and helpful. For that it gets an extra star. Other than that the walls are super thin, way worse than other hotels. I could hear my neighbors phone vibrating next door! The water pressure was really low. The room was clean, but the beds weren't that comfortable. On the amenities side, free hot continental breakfast, but the eggs were wet, which always grosses me out. There is wifi, but the signal was so weak in my room that I couldn't use it. There are free wager and dryer and a gym, open 24 hours, but I didn't use either of them so can't comment. There's no way this place should be $140 a night, but then again, no hotel in Artesia should be over $100 a night. read more

First off it is an older hotel, so it does have some wear/tear. However none of that impacted the overall stayablity of the hotel. The outside was clean and maintained. The inside of the lobby was clean also. The lady at the front desk was friendly and helpful. She got me a room with a balcony so I could enjoy my pipe and ready a book in the evening. The room was clean and everything worked. I found the bed to be a little on the hard side, but that's just me. The Wi-Fi was weak and was unable to get a consistent signal. They do have a breakfast but as I had to get on the road I did not try it out. read more

This has got to be the worst hotel in Artesia and the surrounding area. 1-We arrived about 45 minutes before check in. The lady at the front desk was looking down and shuffling through papers. She rudely asked "May I help you?" We answered "We are here to check in. Her reply "Check in is at 3:00" and continued looking down at the paperwork. Never looking up or saying anything else. 2-We needed to print something using the printer they have available for guest. It was not working. We asked if they could print it using the printer in the back their reply "No, we are working on payroll and won't be able to print it till tomorrow." 3-HBO and other channels were not working. Asked the front desk if they could check in to it. There reply, "You have to call the cable company, it's a problem with them not us." 4-The room was ok. Old stained pillows. Really thin walls, I was able to make out every word our neighbors were saying. Beat up furniture. I seriously don't know how this place has remained open. I will be calling hotels.com to let them know about our experience. read more

The outside is not maintained well. Cigarette butts everywhere, beer bottles and beer cans in the bushes. The trash can outside was over flowing. We stayed two nights and it was not emptied. The air conditioner in the room worked really well. The beds were ok, very low to the ground. They could do a better job on the upkeep overall. Felt safe here. read more

Hotel room was clean and comfortable. Room had a flat screen television with about 40+ cable channels. Sink water pressure was slightly lower than expected but the shower pressure was good. Miss Sammie and Britney Crystal Mary and the rest of the staff were great! They treated us like kings and queens and my little Chihuahua Tuddy like a little princess very very clean hotel I would recommend this hotel to anyone in Artesia. Do not stay here. We started out checking in and going to our room, we went in the bathroom to use the facilities, opened the toilette and there was fecal matter on the toilet and urine in the bowl, next we went to use the swimming pool and it was half full with dirty water in it, we spoke with the lady at the front desk and she said it had been like that for 2 weeks?! Mind you this was in the middle of summer and we booked the room so that my 9 year old could swim, next we found a half dead cockroach on the floor, next we tried to stock the fridge with our drinks only to find out the refrigerator did not work and had the lady change out the refrigerator with my help, at this point we were pretty well fed up, next we went to the front desk again and voiced our disappointment in the hotel and the amenities, the manager said she would give us $60 back on $120 for the night, we said that wasn't acceptable and the lady gave us another $20, all in all we did not want the money we wanted a sanitary safe place to stay, at night about 10 men would gather at the front entrance and drink beer and talk loudly, Artesia is a refinery town and this ended up being a working mans hotel but advertised as a vacation get away, spend the extra money and stay in Carlsbad if you can. read more

Clean, quiet, reasonably priced with a friendly staff. What more can I say? We've had several substandard motels in New Mexico, but this one is just fine. And, the check in staff member recommended a great little local restaurant. read more

This hotel was clean, they have a warm and friendly staff and a great breakfast. Our room was clean and stocked with plenty of towels. We have an issue with a broken coffee pot in our room, and it was quickly replaced. Artesia is a small town with most of the income coming from the local oil refineries. This was a great hotel for my family and I felt safe. The staff was awesome with local information about the tourist sights. I thought the breakfast would be muffins and cereal. However they served biscuits and gravy, eggs, sausage and bacon. We are heading back to Artesia soon and have already booked our next stay. read more

I originally booked 3 rooms. A month later, I called back to cancel 2 of the rooms. Two months after that, I missed my reservation (my fault) and called to speak to someone regarding the charge. They refused to refund any amount. I know it's policy but every now and then, it's smart to bend the rules to keep customers happy. Plus it seems very unlikely that the hotel would be so full that they would miss out on another reservation because they held mine. It's Artesia! read more

We stayed here a few years ago when it was a Holiday Inn, and it has gone downhill since then. The room we had was huge; however, the sleeper sofa was DIRTY and the mattress was horrible. The bathroom smelled of mold and the walls needed repairs. The hotel is quiet but I am not sure that is due to the rooms or that there were not many people staying at the hotel. My husband said the manager was not the friendliest and recommended a restaurant that was going out of business for us to eat dinner. The breakfast did not look appetizing to us; however, there were people eating it (probably a personal preference). Chaos Cafe was a much better option for us and for dinner La Fonda's was great! With other hotels opening up within this area, Legacy Inn needs to make repairs in order to keep up with the competition. I think the room rate is a little high for the current state of the hotel, but the room was big. When we make our next trip back, we will probably stay at one of the newer hotels unless Legacy Inn makes some improvements. read more

Only can rate it a 1 because that is as low as they go. The beds are horrible. They are both old and hard, one looks like a U. one of the phones don't work. There are no blankets on the bed, only a sheet. Asked for a additional blanket and got a throw. The hot water was warm at best. Neither of the security locks work. For $129 a night I expect a lot better. This used to be a Holiday Inn Express, I can see now why they do not wish to be associated with it. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Nice hotel. Lower rates than local competitors, complimentary breakfast, free wifi, cable in the room, and right off the main road. Had to stay the night in Artesia due to being rained in, and this hotel worked out better than we could have hoped. Friendly staff and great breakfast! :) read more
