College park MMA is easily one of the best places you can pick to learn, whether you're just starting out, or experienced in the sport.

Recently, I was in the market for trying something new because Groupon adventures add interest to my life. This was one of them. 1st day of instruction went something like this: We show up, do some basic movements, pair up, practice, and somewhere in between we switch partners and I am paired with a 200lb wrestler. HAH! After getting shaken around a bit, still scared out of my mind and questioning my choices up to that point, I got a great workout, a load of information, and some very useful self-defense moves. Bless these guys for going easy on me because I do not have any sort of muscle definition. I bet if I come here often enough I can one day overtake them because BJJ is more so about skill than it is about strength. The instructor Josh was very patient with us. We came in with no experience and he was able to skillfully show us how to do BJJ even if it took a couple of times. Can't say this type of workout is for everyone since it's a full contact sport but, was very fun and an incredible workout. Would highly recommend this place to anyone, amateur or pro who wants to improve their skill because the skills you learn are definitely useful. Keep in mind this place is not aesthetically pleasing and not the cleanest because people keep sweating profusely but, it's still a great learning experience with awesome people who know their craft so, that's why I gave it 5 stars. Definitely, check out their site for schedules and such because there's more info on there. Give it a chance if you're up for the challenge!

My oldest daughter is a purple belt. She's in weekend and Monday night classes during the school year. The instructors are excellent - that's the distinction. They know the students. It's a cooperative and disciplined environment. When I observe a class, the students all seem like leaders irrespective of their belt colors. They look purposeful to me. With Kaizen, it's a never-ending season. And no one sits on the bench. I could go on about how this helps my parenting role, but every kid is unique. I've seen kids engage; I've seen them mature.

Whenever I tried to go to their website I felt I am signing up for a high level security job. The online registration system is far most the difficult for after school sign ups. I like to do my things online. It is much easier for me to pull my records. I had my kids in one week Kaizen camp. I was told they don't take checks by a gentlemen. I paid by phone with their office staff. I received a flyer and PTA ask me to write a check. I believe they are still old school with online registration. If they would consider upgrading I would return and refer other families.

My daughter started attending King Tiger Martial Arts when she was 5yrs old, she's now 8 and we have no plans to leave anytime soon! In addition to the necessary techniques and skills learned in the Tae Kwon Do program; students are taught the importance of being a responsible helpmate at home, the importance of focus when at school and how they can make a difference in their community. This program helped reinforce the same skills we teach at home and I have witnessed my daughter grow in areas of social responsibilities, confidence & respect. It doesn't just take a village; it takes the right village. Master Se is phenomenal! I don't think he ever has a bad day as he is always there with a smile! His positive demeanor shines not just with him but trickles down throughout his awesome team: Ms. Alene (sp?), Ms. Madge, Mr. Nathan, Mr. Mccaugh and a few others I'm forgetting. The entire staff is amazing. It's evident that not only do they like their jobs, they like each other and they absolutely love the kids.

We started going to keep in shape during Covid and partly for me to live out my dream of being a Kung Fu fighting Hero and we ended up falling in love with it and the teachers! Just recently the instructors incorporated a "Squid Game" theme for our class and it was soo much fun that we were almost ok with doing intense training because of all the fun we were having. That just shows, to me at least, that the teachers are knowledgeable on the current times/events and are committed to looking for new ways to keep us engaged. Did I mention how friendly and kind everyone from the owner to staff members are? They are patient with my boys, but also stern and I find that to be a great balance. I can't wait to see how much we all grow from these classes and experience. I recommend King Tiger Martial Arts to all! Even if you think you're old like me sign up lol!

So when my wife researched and found Dennis Brown Shaolin Wu-Shu Kung Fu Training Center a little over a year ago, I was thrilled! To say that the staff is awesome is an understatement. Our 10 year old son not only has learned so many valuable techniques to defend himself, but also has competed in international (US Capitol Classics China Open) and local (DC Youth Classics) tournaments. He's consistently getting straight A's in school and his confidence in himself is quite apparent. Grand Master Brown, Master Seto, Master Chisolm & Shifu Victoria are just a few of the leaders that our family are indebted to. We highly endorse and recommend this school !!!

The woman who assisted me at the desk was super nice and helpful. After warming up I joined up with the main group. For a Monday night I was shocked to see what was about 40 people in the room doing kickboxing warm ups. I struggled to keep up for the first few exercises, but the individual next to me encouraged me and showed me the combinations a little slower so I caught on quick. The instructor also came over to check on me to make sure I was okay since I looked a little lost. But by the end I was smiling and sweaty. There is no "take a break," it is a high intensity 45-minute cardio experience. I loved every second and will probably stay after my initial Groupon is up. Recommend you bring water if you do this class... and maybe a yoga mat as you do lay on the floor for some of the course and it can be a bit dirty from all the shoes on the mat. The kickboxing classes meet Monday nights, Wednesday nights and Saturday late morning.
