We tried several different places, but they just did not measure up to our old one (Tiger Den). Finally we discovered Tiger World Class Tae Kwon Do, in Ellicott City. I have been saying for years that we need something like this here! You will find the instructors, Master Shin and Master Chong are both experts in Tae Kwon Do, however most importantly are enthusiastic about the sport! They have a way of encouraging the kids to learn while strengthening their bodies and teaching respect. My son's behavior improved immediately after a few classes. He wants to do well for the Masters and he has developed an appreciation for the Korean teachings of respect. Most of all, he is excited to learn and has a goal to strive for black belt. The Masters get the kids to think about goals, which is what they need. My son even has the thought the he could compete one day, just like the Masters. I believe with excellent teachers like Master Shin and Master Chong it is possible! You will find the dojo is always clean and everything is new. They have state of the art equipment, and benches for the parents to sit and watch. The schedule is very accommodating. You can choose from a variety of classes from afternoon to late evening, and even Saturday classes. The class time is just under an hour, so not too long for busy schedules and it does not interfere with homework. You will find price to be comparable to others in the area, and they do accept payment plans. It is well worth the money, and it has been my experience that the class sizes are small enough that each child gets individual instruction and attention. Overall, this is a success for Ellicott City! This is exactly the type of Tae Kwon Do we needed. They have a website that gives more information of their backgrounds. I've practiced martial arts (Karate, Taekwondo, and Wushu) for about a total of 10 years, so i've been around several different schools and Masters and Sifus. Sifu Shannon Moore teaches traditional, practical, and sport aspects of Wing Chun. Very knowledgeable and experienced as one would know from just listening and conversing with him. Sifu Shannon Moore takes great pride in providing hands on training and development with his students as opposed to some other schools i have been to where the senior students primarily teach. You may ask... well what the heck is this Wing Chun mumbo jumbo. How is it any different from other martial art styles that also teach self-defense? Wing Chun is an amazing and beautiful kung fu style different from many of today's popular styles, such as Karate, Taekwondo, and Shaolin kung fu. While these styles may focus on blocking first and then attacking, Wing Chun teaches well-coordinated angular defense and simultaneous attack, operating on the center line, not drawing back (windup) before striking; instead striking from any position. This both increases the speed and eliminates the telegraphing of the strike. Using structure of the entire body to create power in a small space. This way, in the time it takes a student of another style to throw one or two punches, a Wing Chun student will throw at least nine. This system relies on biomechanics, not brute force and is a scientific yet theoretically based martial arts style focusing on close-range combat. Wing Chun is based on the concepts and principles of simplicity, economy of movement, and economy of energy. This art is a true internal and external system designed so you can learn the system in 3-5 years. It is a science in motion that is simple yet explosive. Bear in mind, i said learn the system in 3-5 years. Mastering is a whole other story. =) Anyone who is interested the martial arts, especially Wing Chun, should definitely come check it out. We found this place almost 4 years ago, after coming out of a kumon center across the street…read more Outside was hung with grand opening banners, so we decided to stop in and check it out. The Master (surprisingly) was young, but after one trial class, my 7 year old daughter was hooked. She loved how Master Andrew made classes fun, entertaining, and filled with laughter, but also included times for serious learning accordingly. He understands if the kids are having a difficult time with certain forms, but continues to encourage them which helps give them that push to continue, rather than to quit. This dojo is also run by the most family-oriented family, whom (from what I've seen) all remembers each students and their families names. They are constantly sanitizing and keeping the place clean. Yes, even before covid hit. 4 years later, my daughter who started out as a no belt, holds a second degree black belt. Thank you to Master Andrew and Master Yang for having superb positive teaching values for the children.

My son struggles with paying attention in school, but here he loves "focusing" and learning new techniques. It's the right balance of challenge and accomplishment. The facility is nice enough, there is enough room for all the kids to spread out. Class sizes are around 12-15, which is perfect. Belt progression is not guaranteed, and belt testing is serious. Master Andrew trains his students to be competitive and many do participate in state and national competitions, but we're only white belt, so a ways to go still. If you're looking for a family-friendly, flexible, fun and competitive environment, this is the place.

This is my second time using Groupon here. The Groupon will last you for 4 months for 30 days of kickboxing class including a pair of gloves. You can come any day you want, make sure check their website for their time schedule. The schedule are different than last year I was here. All of the instructors are really nice. You can practice at your pace. If you have kids or you want to do martial art, they have a very good program here as I can tell (I don't know how much does it cost but it seems fun).
