In order to replace the valve, the water had to be shut off at the street. The first attempt to exercise the outside valve failed - it just wouldn't turn - probably hadn't been exercised in 50 years! On his next attempt, he was able to close the valve so the work could begin in the basement. Sylvester was very thorough and very considerate of my tenants. He minimized the amount of time that the water in the building was unavailable by putting together all of the pieces of piping, tees, couplings, etc. ahead of time. When it it was all sweated together and ready for installation, he than turned off the main and completed the job in short order - maybe less than 30 minutes of downtime. I'm very happy with Sylvester's work as always!
