The hall is glamorous with high ceilings and large windows. There is a bar area too. You can set the room up as you please. All the events I have been to here have food stations lining both sides of the hall. The staff here are wonderful and courteous. Service with a smile and very helpful should you have any questions. She met with me several times, allowed me to do multiple walk-throughs, try out different ceneterpieces, etc. and was on-site with us the whole night - even the day after Thanksgiving! The space is lovely - dark wood, elegant furnishings and fixtures. Two beautiful rolling bars that were enormously helpful. Tables, chairs, bar stools all included. The view from the patio is stunning. If you're doing an evening event, make sure it includes sunset! We couldn't have been happier!

You're only as strong as your weakest link…read more I've stayed in many hotels for both work and personal travel. The nice amenities, decent gym and friendly staff are what creates the environment for a pleasant experience. Two of these were met and the friendly staff, was mostly there. . .but one sour apple truly changed the course of our stay. Even my wife, who worked once upon a time in hospitality at Kiawah Resort, was started by the interactions from The Loutrel Hotel staff member. Long story short. The daily complimentary breakfast was served. I accidentally went to place the granola lid on the yogurt, my wife told me that was the wrong lid and I went to correct. From across the room the breakfast attendant yelled, "sir that doesn't go there." Startled, I immediately removed it and placed it accordingly. I laughed it off. Moments later I went to sit my breakfast down where my drink was located. Same attendant, "you're not even sitting at the right table with your wife." Again, my error, but don't call me out twice in one morning. It's a small lobby, so many staff members overheard the interaction. Nothing was done by other management. The next morning, I walked down to look at breakfast. I saw the same attendant and said, good morning. She looked at me but wasn't pleasant in her response. Unlike the rest of her colleagues at the restaurant who are polite and kind, the same customer service I expect and provide to my customers. Breakfast offered salmon with some type of eggs or shellfish. I can't eat shellfish, allergic. So, I went to grab a biscuit at a local coffee shop and a coffee. We came back to the hotel and sat our food down. The same rude attendant came over, nudged my wife in her back and said, "you can't have this here, cross contamination." So, I left. Allowed my wife to eat her yogurt in the area. Funny enough, my wife asked where the utensils were, because every table had them. Same attendant rudely, pointed to another table for her to get them. I should have just sat down and ate my food as I didn't see any signs for "no outside food." Either way, stay somewhere else. It's unfortunate that a hotel like this allows such rudeness from a staff member. I did report this to the manager, and online but was met with more passivity. Comped two nights of valet. Honestly, it wasn't enough. I would never stay here again and it ended the trip on such a sour note.

This experience was special and we will certainly be back in the future. We brought our sweet pet Buddy and stayed in the wine cellar room. The cellar actually proved to be ideal for sleeping on a hot day. We toured the other rooms in the mansion and they looked gorgeous!! You truly can't go wrong here. Any review stating otherwise gets a bit of a side eye from me.

The wine and cheese evening hour was so much fun as a lot of the guests were in the parlor just getting to know each other. The cheese plate was the perfect amount and very nice touch. The room was very clean. The bathroom was nice and updated and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Let me say however, the Inn still needs a ton of work and the work that has been done is sub par at best. Maybe I have high expectations as I have owned a century home & have stayed in several 100/150 year old homes that cost less per night yet were much better restored. This one gives you the feeling that it still is a major work in progress. We were in room 11. It is behind the reception desk. Upon closing and locking up the reception area in the evenings, the only way to access our room was by going outside to the back of the house and up the narrow staircase. That seemed a little odd but it was okay. I found it strange that the Keurig and water and such was in the basement area as well. I felt it should have probably been in the dining area or even hallway. The floor in our room was completely unfinished which was a concern as socks would get snagged on it. The breakfasts were okay but they never change the menu and it's not cooked on site but rather prepackaged and heated in the microwave or oven. BUT...The topper was the cold. We literally froze in our room the last night. So cold that when I stepped on the tile floor in the bathroom the bottoms of my feet hurt. There is a system in our room that I had set to heat & 74 yet it never warmed up. We checked out a day early as the portable heater in our room that was in there as well blew the breaker. The sweet young lady offered to check the breakers but at this point I think we were done trying. Again... we LOVED the staff and interaction with the other guests. I wish the owner the best as I know it can't be an easy or inexpensive property to own.

Once you enter you can feel all of the history in this building and it is a part of the experience of being there. I really like all of the portraits that are displayed throughout the building and all of the furniture and other furnishings. The building multiple levels and is big enough to host several hundred people for a larger gathering. I like the staircase and all of the wood floors in the venue too. This is a great place to celebrate and gather and be a part of the history of Charleston. I look forward to being able to come back here many times.
