A friend invited me to see MACBETH because her friend Emma was in the play. I had to say it was very interesting to say the least. I rally didn't understand the dialect but got the jest of the play. For some reason my review for this college got removed. I never said anything derogatory or nasty so I don't get it. Whatever though.... I'll just keep this short and sweet and sum up my previous review. When I went to this school back in the early 2000s, the education was good and the professors were professional and on point with everything. I can't speak for how anything is now however. I can say this however with certainty (as this has not changed even since I was there), and that is that the environment will make or break an experience. The environment has a big hip hop vibe to it, and most of the students here (even to this day) are Dominican. If this doesn't fit you, you might not like it here. So be advised. If you don't care, then you'll probably feel fine here. Other than that, there's not much to say about this place. read more

I'm very disappointed with Lehman College's admissions office. Their communication is extremely poor. I have been trying to reach them for weeks -- calling multiple times and sending several emails -- and I have yet to receive a response. It's frustrating and unprofessional, especially when students are trying to meet deadlines and need clarification on important application details. A college should support its applicants, not ignore them. I hope they seriously improve their responsiveness going forward. read more

I'm conflicted. On the one hand Lehman is responsible for the best job I ever had, a low level admin gig where they moved my office to the basement , office space style, to make room for the hottie our department head was chasing. Then my computer broke and they didn't bother to fix it for a year. A year of hot chocolate and reading the paper all day? Epic. Downside, they had me working 19 hours a week because if it went up to 20 I'd be eligible for health insurance and Lehman , like most employers, wants to be sure that you know that they don't care if you live or die. The admin carousel came to a halt regardless, penny pinching is not a strategy. A few years later, I came up to the Bronx again , Lehman got hip to startups and incubators and all that jazz and they grandly "accepted" me into one. That was a month ago and so far all I'm seeing are boomers and X'ers running out the string on the last gasp of academic administration work , hoping it doesn't all go belly up before they do. Work is of course a four letter word so their most recent faint to a facsimile of effort was sending me an excel sheet where names didn't match email addresses. I'll get to go on a treasure hunt! That was about 6 weeks ago and other than two newsy spam emails, including one for a business category completely unrelated to me, I think that's all she wrote. read more

Extremely unorganized for admissions. Advisement seems to be a joke as well since they seem to overlook everything to the point that you need to show them proof that they're wrong just for them to speak with you. I've never seen a college this unorganized. There's also barely any support. I literally was given the run around just to get ahold of someone to try and see an advisor. read more

What a beautiful campus! Located in the West Bronx somewhat close to the botanic garden and very conveniently close to the subway, this campus has a lot of offer, large campus with great arts all around it. The buildings have a very princetonesque touch to them, very medieval/renaissance looking and very well mantained. It is really a beautiful campus to belong to, sadly the area is out of reach for me, but if I loved in the neighborhood I would definetly try to get in here just cause of the beautiful campus. They also have some cool summer events inspired in the arts. I absolutely fell in love with the campus. The nursing program is really tough to get in so make sure that if you want to try for that give them a call and come over to talk with someone in the department. read more

Lehman College is notorious for hosting Multicultural concerts. And The Bronx with Willie Colón, just go hand in hand. A compilation of his old-school Salsa songs dating back 30+ years, were brought on stage; and made for a perfect and lively blend during the Holiday Season. Lehman has a $5 parking lot on Goulden Avenue. But brace yourself- you have to jump through hoops as there's a trek to get to the Concert Hall. First floor's (rather small) entrance/lobby, is crowded and doubles as, "waiting-for-your-entire-party-to-arrive" with vendors selling 'artesanías' (crafts)- adding to the evening's chaos. Head one flight up: hand your ticket to the 'Ticket Clerk', she then hands it to the usher, who then escorts you to your seat. We sat at the Center Mezzanine and still had an excellent view of Willie Colón and his band. Nothing extravagant, but design inside (and the lack of), reminds me of a cement room. At this point though, acoustics, played more of a major part in providing a clear and smooth sound, than decor. Besides, Lehman's Performance Arts Center, is a great escape for international and musical presentations. read more

A horrible school...absolutely no guidance or help from any of the administrative staff. The way things are run is completely archaic, departments do not communicate at all, most of the time you have to just show up in person and hope that after talking to 3 or 4 different people someone is able to help you with your issue. The nursing department is especially terrible, you only get emailed to get reprimanded, however your emails to them with questions or concerns get lost in the abyss. You will have to navigate everything on your own because this school does not support its students in the slightest. I love this school...for several reasons. 1-Location (decent are in BX and right by the 4 and D train) so if you live close by or even in SouthBX, this is good for you. 2-The campus itself from the outside looks like you are at a really nice school out of state or something. Looks really prestigious so it gives you the impression that you MIGHT get something out of going here...lol 3-Nice food that they have here in the Music Building. They have a pizzeria, a blimpies, chinese food and fajita area. And it is inexpensive 4-Convienient parking 5-And some very, VERY beautiful females that go to this school. One out of 3 things will happen if you are a guy going to this school, you will either end up falling for a girl that goes to this school, get somekind of hook-up going on or end up having a baby-mama out it cause the girls at this school look that good. The downfalls of this school is that the service in the financial aid/bursars office sucks. Very rude and somewhat disrespectful and pretty much do not want to help you if you have an issue getting your financial aid or at least figuring out a decent way to pay for classes without doing a deferment. Bad on that note Lehman, but other than that this school is a recommend. As far as getting something out of the classes. I really think that is up to the person who attends class and what you can get out of it. My professors here have been okay so far. read more

I had to attend professional workshops that were organized and administered by two fine professionals: Professor Kahn and Professor Sisselman-Borgia. These lovely ladies reminded me of how I want to treat persons on a daily basis in professional as well as social realms. My colleagues and I were very impressed if not moved by the human warmth that was juxtaposed by an impeccable grasp of the interplay between theory and societal repercussions. The topics they choose to tackle are formidable but one feels a sense of familiarity that only results when talented scholars have the ability to explain and break down that which is complex without sacrificing paradoxes, mutual exclusiveness and the relevance of transparent knowledge. I graduated in January with an MSED in TESOL. I loved my professors and advisors. Everyone in the department was amazing, really supportive. They provide vital assistance and advice with teacher exams, certification, and getting hired. I am only giving 4 stars because there were occasional issues with the registrar, bursar, and other offices that were sometimes disorganized, slow to correct their errors, and generally unhelpful. But in my experience, most schools are like that. read more

I am no stranger to public institutions of education. Binghamton University (let's face it, no amount of name changing will change the fact that it was, is, and always will be SUNY Binghamton!) was home to me for four sometimes annoying, but ultimately gratifying, years. Bureaucracy, yes, no ivy crawling up along our buildings, and lots of Long Island kids whose parents traded them a new Audi in exchange for going to a public university. Okay. Fine. I still came away reasonably smarter, and I can goodheartedly chuckle about having gone to a public university, which, for reasons formerly unbeknownst to me, people align with a shitty education. I found the reason people connect public higher education with shittiness at CUNY Lehman, where I earned my master's degree. I have been affiliated with five universities/colleges as student or employee, and Lehman has, by far, the most inane and incompetent administration and faculty I have encountered. The amount of problems and times I was fucked over by Lehman would shock you. One of my stars is for the cost, which is dirt cheap at $270/credit, and the other star is for the one good friend I made while at Lehman. The final kick in the ass was a letter from Lehman last week proclaiming that I could come pick up my diploma next month. Yes, PICK UP my diploma. They won't even mail it to me. I learned one valuable lesson at Lehman. You get what you pay for. Update: Lehman has fucked me over TWICE MORE since I wrote this (namely, since I graduated and supposedly escaped the hellhole). I have deducted a star. You have been warned. So for the money, Lehman is tolerable. Of course, $1500 a course is still ridiculous, a testament to elitism. I say tolerable because at some point it becomes apparent no assistance is really to be had. So you "must" advocate for yourself. Even when you do stick up for yourself, this doesn't guarantee that people will comply. And by comply, I mean show some level of professionalism that is greater than the level of their ego or laziness. A registering student shouldn't have to make frequent trips to the office to "check up" on the completion of matters, or to see what requirements weren't mentioned during the last visitation. The latter issue could be fixed by more than the supervisors being in the know. Then there is the fiasco of academic egos. Many professors suffer from small man's disease. This is the reason that the University harbors so many scholars and authors the general public doesn't give a crap about. The University community can give a major crap about itself. Love itself because no one else does. Like most Universities, the gown and town issues exist at Lehman as well. As an African-American, "nigger" is going to come up at some point in class before you graduate. This degree it was brought up in class by a professor who used the study of words to justify saying it in my presence. There is also something odd about walking into an English class that is shocked a African-American male is there, when the surrounding area is full of minorities. I did learn a good amount. Shout out to Professor Yood & Professor Koo. But the bruises and delays take the shine out of the accomplishment for me. I graduated with a 3.9, Suma Cum Laude. I couldn't muster enough care to skip work and attend the ceremony. I just wanted to put it behind me. A university should give you cause to celebrate all that hard work. read more

I HATE THIS PLACE. the worst decision of my life, honestly. The transfer process was a nightmare and they took so long to do so. I had to harass them until they gave me an appropriate time to handle everything. They wanted for me wait until JANUARY to register for the Spring semester...are they crazy! Dealing with the people there is so hard because they are so freaking lazy...so if you want to get anything done you really have to be pushy. The travel at first wasn't so bad and I think I've been a trooper with it considering that I live in Queens...the very end of it too. The 4 train is express and comes often so no complaints there. It's just hearing that there was a slasher on that train a few months ago scared me but yea. The class experiences have been okay. Nothing spectacular or inspiring. My classmates aren't exactly the friendliest of people and it was really hard to make friends. The professors are okay as well. I've only had a few good ones so far. I only went here because they had my major which is Food & Nutrition/Dietetics and is only offered in four schools within NYC. The classes and professors I had within my major are great but they offer only a limited amount of the required classes per semester. I think that is unfair and have been behind because the classes are filled up so fast. Overall this place is ghetto and pretty much a piece of crap school. Do your research because I sure as hell didn't. Visit the school before commiting to it. read more

Soooo After spending four of the most beautiful and painful years of my life here it is time to walk away :( I can say that I honestly made the right choice coming here four years ago and it makes me proud as an (omg I can officially say this lol) "Alumni" that judging by the other great reviews I am not the only one that feels this way. The one deducted star is for the one commonality in almost all of these reviews and that is the bureaucracy and the ADMINISTRATION!!! I mean the bureaucracy is unavoidable to a certain extent especially at a public institution, but the administration at Lehman is particularly horrid!!! I swear a visit to some of those offices (financial aid and bursar especially) can scare you off... but don't run because the professors make up for this. I had some amazing professors many of which also taught at schools like Columbia and NYU and taught at Lehman part time. The campus is beautiful, clean and grassy. Classes are really accessible with a good portion of classes being taught in the evenings, weekends and online. Its great I'm really going to miss this place... bye bye Lehman!!! read more

This is NOT a review for the quality of the college, but rather my impression of the campus when I visited. It's conveniently located right off the 2 of the 5 train, and the campus is quite large. Buildings are nice and when I went, the trees were in bloom. Overall, it was very pleasant. Now the reason I visited was because there is a little known fact that the Superman Portrait hanging inconspicuously in the main Library is the first depicting Superman standing in his iconic pose. This painting had also been lost and transferred a few time, and has quite an interesting history. If you want to visit, you have to call ahead and get your name on the security list so you can get in to see it. read more

Currently in my 2nd semester and going strong. It takes me half an hour to get there from my job. I take night classes. I don't feel that the education is really mediocre, I would call it "vanilla" on occasion. CUNY is cheap, yes. Typical urban college. A good game plan? Be here for a while, have a great GPA, and finish up elsewhere if finances allow. I'm a single working studying mom. Lehman fits the bill for a school that works around me. read more

I go here for their facilities--the great pool, pretty decent tennis court, weight room, computer hall. It's a great, inexpensive option in comparison to big name colleges though most students consider it as a "last resort" school. Came here to watch the Swan Lake performance and I must say it was insane here. There was no organization with the ticket line as well as the ticket pick up line. At one point campus police came in to make some order to the mayhem. It was nice that the director of events came out to apologize, not too many place would do that. Hopefully Lehman learned from this craziness for their future performances with 2,500 + people. read more

It's a mixed feeling for me. I graduated a while back it felt like a community collage to me when walking in. I didn't get an experience during class hours or with any students or professors. I simply was there for a weekend ballet show being led at the college. The students operated the ticket sales.. Will call.. Concession.. Seating helpers.. And anything else needed at a actual theatre show. The theatre was well arranged and designed for all people. Talk or short you was capable of seeing the stage.. Depending on your visual abilities! I went to Lehman to visit for this REEL JUSTICE media activism and community reconciliation Film Conference and was very pleased. It felt funny to be on the campus and I didn't go there but I blended right in. This school is very diverse and were doing Student government elections when I was there in April. They had representatives from the Malcolm X Grassroots movement, as well as documentarians and conscious rappers such as RodStarz of Rebel Diaz and M1 of Dead Prez. I got to interview some people for my online radio show I did sporadically (3 times) for Hunter College Radio. There were also screening and panel discussions that addressed the issues of violence in the black community and in Hip Hop. I networked and really connected with the good people here at Lehman. I may have only been here for two days during the conference, and am currently working myself back into school, but I can tell by the conference and the organization of the people in that room that this is a fine learning institution. read more

Admissions process was disorganized. Especially advisement. There is not enough support for students even while enrolled in classes. My professor lets students out early and comments that it's late, mean while myself and other students are still unclear on math assignments . While going to the math lab, the receptionist is unhelpful. I'm told to go into a room with tutors that are already booked with people. After waiting over a half hour I'm told each tutor covers a different math class. How would i have known that ?. Such a waste of time. I regret enrolling here. read more

So far my experience at Lehman College has been on a scale from 1 to 10. Ten being the highest I would rate this school at a 4 at best. Going to The Tap office has been the worst experience I've ever dealt with at any school. I was told that my art class is not a requirement for my degree in art how funny is that and therefore therefore I don't have enough credit for tap when I'm attending full time how stupid is that. One of the most horrible money hungry institutions. DO NOT enroll. Think twice. They do not help you, nor do they guide you. They hold your degree hostage until you pay more money. They don't tell you what you need until you seemingly have all your credits and then say by the way you have to retake these courses didn't anyone tell you?? BS No one knows what they're doing to guide students They make up rules along the way. Not worth the hassle. It doesn't deserve even one star. There is no organization and no guidance for students who are embarking their college career. They make it seem like they're there for you, but they aren't. Many students don't know where to go for help or guidance. I would think if someone is failing that would be the first sign of reaching out and making a difference, but it's not. I write this with the utmost sincerity. Do your research. There are other affordable ways to get a very good education. This institution is way too big and you will get lost in bureaucracy. Don't do it, I transferred my 1st semester. The "Old Gym" is infested with Lead and it's not the only building. The library has Little to no resources, textbooks that you'll need for courses the library probably won't even have a copy. The library on campus is extremely outdated and dusty. Nice campus... Too much traffic!!! Dizzy..... Big concert hall but no elevators. Sound check was right sound on point just waiting to see the show. What's good @ this spot is that its not to far from Yankee stadium.... Big red curtains n front surrounded. By elevated system.... The red carpet is a bit beat up and the bathroom is on the first floor only. We were upstairs and to get down was easy. But..... Once In the lobby we were a bunch of Packed sardines!!! Lehman is not a horrible school nor is it an excellent school -- it's kind of like purgatory for people with "situations". I will get into that further. Let's start with the superficial. The campus is nice. There is grass. There are trees and sometimes geese. The tallest building has 5 stories, maybe. Because it's in the Bronx, Lehman has the luxury of building outwards instead of upwards, so there is room to breathe even on orientation and commencement days. It feels like an actual "sleep-away" school and the facilities are slowly being upgraded from their 1960s glory. (Ha.) If you have classes in Carmen Hall on the Jerome Ave side of campus, be prepared for the 4-train to come roaring by every 5.5 minutes. (My English Requirement class taught me the 4-train is pretty on schedule.) Whether you don't have the grades to go to a better school, the money to go to a better school ((or both)), this is a decent place to eke out a stellar GPA with minimal effort, get a scholarship and transfer the hell out of there. At least, that is my plan... because I don't want to be a Social Worker or a Nurse. I hear those programs are good, though. There is a ton of bureaucracy -- you have to go to 3 different buildings just to get your ID validated, which then grants you access to the library. God forbid you want to use the library and don't have an ID (through no fault of your own). They guard the knowledge (and copy machines) with an iron LOUD MOUTHED fist. If you swim, the Olympic sized pool might be of use to you. I honestly don't know why it's there. Maybe just so we can boast about all of our SPACE? The cafeteria is nice. Ish. Bathrooms are always filthy ... except for the bathroom in the basement of Gillet Hall. Which is scary ... but clean. Probably because no one ever really goes in there. I am a product of the NYC Public School system so none of the bureaucratic nonsense really surprised me. Just prepare for everything to take twice as long as you think it should for no valid reason. I've had some pretty good Professors. Most of them were adjuncts. I had one tenured Professor and he was probably the most lenient and easy-going Professor there. *shrug* Hmmm I guess I'll go take a ticket to see someone in the Financial Aid Office now... read more

Pros: Nice campus and affordable tuition. The free metrocards and gift cards to grocery stores are nice, too. Oh, and the athletic facilities are very nice. Cons: Where do I start? First, don't expect to reach anyone on the phone, you have to waste your time going in person (with the exception of the bursar, where you will likely encounter the idiot staff member who will answer a million questions, but none relating to what you asked, before hanging up on you because she doesn't feel like talking anymore). Second, forget going to financial aid unless you have the entire day to devote to waiting. You have the pleasure of taking a number like you're at the deli counter of a supermarket (which is likely number 253 when they're only on number 60) and then spend the next (no joke!!) 6 - 8 hours waiting to be seen. When you do get to the counter, you talk to someone for about 15 seconds who will tell you 1 of 2 things: Fill out this form OR come back tomorrow/next week. Yep, you just waited 6 hours to have someone not answer your question. Welcome to Lehman! Third, financial aid is sssssslllllllllooooooowwwwwwwww in processing everything! Request a loan? That won't be processed for weeks. Even if it is, somewhere, someone, will not do their job and you'll end up in a world of frustration. Documents are passed from hand to hand to hand and, in true Lehman fashion, someone will screw up. I had a Sallie Mae loan requested in August of 2013, after several trips to financial aid and demanding to speak with SOMEONE on my last attempt, I was directed to the accounting department where a "ghost loan" with no name assigned to it was sitting untouched awaiting disbursement. Apparently (shocker!!), someone in financial aid screwed up and instead of having my money in October, I received it the 1st week of January. Fast forward to summer when I requested a loan from Wells Fargo May 30th...it's currently September 12th and I have yet to see the money. Fourth, stay on top of administration!!!! If you need something done, you HAVE to do it yourself. Why employ people to do a job for you, you may ask? Good question...I don't know. I guess they receive some sort of funding if they meet their quota for warm bodies...or so one would assume. Fifth, not too sure about the quality of their academics. I only had experience with the nursing department, but based on what I've heard, it's just...meh. This also may have to do with professors finding out students are interested in nursing and there is no one in that school that can tolerate the nursing department (nursing students included!). Sixth, there's a real lack of quiet places to study. This is common in schools with a lot of fine art and liberal art majors, though. Seventh, the food sucks and it's overpriced. You can buy some cheap pasta surprise for $5, but everything else is expensive. Want a salad? You're paying $6 for a giant thing if all you want is something small. Serious lack of healthy options other than some hit or miss bananas and apples. However, this is in the Bronx!!! read more

Horrible place so far. There's room for improving this review because it's still early but for now, here it is: I'm a queens gal transferring from a pretty safe area. The long ride into the Bronx everyday makes me miss queens and I hate queens (in a loving way of course). I got over the shock of seeing Yankee stadium very quickly and the depressing apartments just remind me about my depressing new choice of schooling. Already I want to rip my hair out. The staff have given me the runaround countless times and the transfer process was pretty confusing. Even at orientation there was a "scheduled" advisement meeting we had the option of signing up for supposedly! Yet no one did! Why? Because there was no notification about it anywhere! I don't understand why they would let a bunch of incompetent students run the transfer orientation. There was no order and no questions of mine got answered. I still have no email and my financial aid that's supposed to be pending is sitting somewhere in limbo. I didn't have such problems at cc so to go to a four year and experience such backwards management is pathetic. Shitty commute, shitty students, shitty cuny bureaucracy. Graduated from Lehman years ago with two B.A's under my belt and I loved this place...I've decided to return, as a enjoy the torturing of writing papers, mid terms and finals....:-) For me, admissions was breezy. Just do it...don't complain...just do it...school isn't meant to e easy....just do it...it's hard...you're not gonna always like it...some professors will be cool as hell...some professors, you may have to report...but at the end of the day...do what you came there for. Focus...set a goal and don't let anyone or anything break you...I once got soo upset over a math course...I was PISSED with the Math department( In hindsight, it wasn't them..it was me expecting the rules to be bent for lil ole me)...so I decided to drop out....one of my classmates told someone in career services (true story)...and this guy gave me the same speech I just made......and I'm so grateful for it...it took me a bit longer but I graduated...you can do it!!:-) read more

When I graduated bcc to transfer here it was a nightmare trying to get class. This is a nice campus. But I love the most is the underground walk through so if its raining you don't have to walk outside. Don't eat in the cafeteria that's mice central. The mice stay running around that place. It's a cool school overall but I only came here cause its an easy commute but I think I am going to transfer since I'm not eligible to get into the nursing program here. read more
