I really enjoyed our meal here. My co-worker was trying to find this restaurant he had eaten at a few years ago, I'm glad we stumbled across it and happens it was the place we were looking for. The Schnitzel selection was great and we both enjoyed the items we ordered. It seemed really popular with the locals, so we figured we were in the right place. I'm going to make this place a regular stop whenever I'm in town for work.

Grilled Pork Chop on mound of sauerkraut & mashed potatoes.

Have been here three times in the last few months. Have tried a variety of dishes & will go back again. First visit had the grilled pork chop with sauerkraut & mashed potatoes. Darn near ate every bite on the plate. Delicious. Second time had the baked potato with salad & turkey and mushrooms. Not very many mushrooms & I think a sauce would be good with it. Third visit again had the baked potato with salad but this time with the ribs. Probably my least favorite. Don't know what I was thinking as a former Texan ordering ribs in Germany. A little dry. Needed more smoke, spice & sauce. Next time I'm getting the jäger schnitzel. If you get a side order of spaetzle make sure it's the one with grilled onions & cheese.

Looking for a less crowded location, i found this quite little spot just a few blocks from Römerberg (Historical Market Square). From the moment I sat down the waiter was friendly and attentive. They had menu in English, which was helpful, although most places provide menus in multiple languages. The food came out quickly. The schnitzel was crunchy and the breading stayed on perfectly. It was an excellent portion size. I would recommend taking a short walk around the area and trying some of the wonderful resturants outside the tourist trap centers, you will not be disappointed.

Service was great (English friendly). Food was good. I would return to try something else. Ordered a traditional schnitzel with green sauce (herbs and sour cream). I've tries schnitzel in the USA before and was left wondering what's so great about schnitzel. After trying schnitzel here in Germany I now understand. Schnitzel in the USA does not compare. The potatoes weren't just bland potatoes either.

My favorite here is the ribs! It's gigantic - can feed 2 little asians (me being one) - and oh so finger-licking good! For dessert, we had the kaiserschmarrn in vanilla sauce and it was an explosion in my mouth! They used fresh vanilla in the sauce. Sooooo good! I don't like milk but I could probably drink gallons of this sauce. What delighted me most of all is their selection and price of scotch. Glenfiddich and good ol Johnnies go for only 2.5€ Macallan at 5€ and Lagavulin at 6€!!! I don't usually mix my drinks so I only had one kind, must go back to try the others (and have another plate of ribs)!

Great food at a decent price. Service was welcoming and quite quick except for one hold up. My husband had the pork medallions in green pepper sauce and I had the baked potato with lamb chops with side salad. My dish was huge and delicious. We sat outside on the cozy patio. Nice atmosphere and warm with propane heaters and blankets provided.

Everything was great. Nice workers and little bit dark inside, that makes good mood. Foods ate good especially we loved schnitzel with gorgonzola sause. It was too good to be true! Beers are also great. We enjoyed the time in there. But little bit loud so you need to talk louder. And if you visit there without reservation, for dinner, then you must be wait a while.

Small salad. A meal in itself

Service was great. Schweinhaxe was excellent. Great selection of beers went with a colleague. Definitely on my short list when in Frankfurt.

Nice ambience and staff all speak English and are good at suggesting dishes to try! Beware portions are large - even by American standards!! My partner and I got 2 apps and a main to share and could not finish. We got the hand cheese music(?), beef sausage salad and a mushroom schnitzel. The schnitzel was by far the star of the show (as we should have expected)! The cheese is famous so we had to try it but sheep's cheese is a bit too strong for me and it had a harder texture than I prefer. My partner liked it though so I'd recommend giving it a shot if you're adventurous!! We also got their homemade lemonade which was a fizzy raspberry lemonade. Pretty good as well but wish I had tried one of their ciders!

They're trying to stick to the monastery beer vibe but it doesn't hit the mark in that regard. The old place was cozy and old and felt authentic, this place is new, loud and generic. Probably won't be back, unfortunately. If you like well lit, upscale, generic restaurants try this one out. The food is good but the ambience is off.

It is run by a husband and wife team and despite the restaurant being super busy (full of locals), service was still speedy! You can tell a lot of local airline crew members eat here on their overnights because they have one full wall covered in airline stickers. That must mean it's GOOD. On to the food! I ordered a cup of their goulash soup and it was SO flavorful. For my entree I ordered the pork schnitzel that came with the yummiest sautéed potatoes and onions. I will absolutely be dreaming about this schnitzel for days to come. I loved the fresh lemon to squeeze on top and the green sauce that they serve on the side is amazing. It is almost like a tartar sauce with lots of herbs. My husband ordered their split pea soup and goulash dinner that came with boiled potatoes, both were also superb! We split a side of their red cabbage as well. A must!! This dinner alone was worth the 24 hour last minute stay in Frankfurt!! Yum!!! I love German food!

I took a bus there so I can't comment on the parking situation in the area. Ambiance (4/5): From the outside, Atschel looks like a homey, traditional restaurant. Which is exactly what I was looking for when it cam to my first dining experience in Germany. There's a charming inside area with wooden walls as well as a patio area in the back. I sat inside. Drinks (4/5): Frankfurt is known for apelwein or apple wine. So when in Rome...I had the apelwein spritz which adds soda and Aperol. I will say that straight up apelwein is not my jam. It's nice to try while you're in Frankfurt, but it's too bitter and vinegar-ey for me. With that being said, when you mix it in with Aperol and soda, it's pretty solid. And if you're in a group, you can get the apelwein served in large stone mugs which is pretty cool. Outside of that, they have a lot of beer, as you would expect, and pretty much everything else. Service (4.5/5): I was pleasantly surprised with how friendly and attentive the service was (which is typically not the norm in Europe). Our waitress checked on me, thanked me and said goodbye as I was leaving, and overall, did a great job. Food (4/5): Since this is a traditional German restaurant, I had to go with another Frankfurt specialty: Viener schitznel with green sauce. Schnitzel just means a thin cutlet (often pork) that is breaded. The green sauce is made from seven herbs and while it's a tad bit herb-ey for my taste, it was still interesting to try. The dish is served with fried potatoes. Filling and hearty as you would expect from a German meal. For my first meal in Germany, it was a great start to my trip.

Ordered Apfelwein which was not very good - but to be fair I'm sure there's different versions like every other type of wine. Ordered the green sauce dish - a staple of cold green sauce, eggs, potatoes. It was tasty but the eggs were ever so slightly overcooked (the grayish on the outside of the yolk) but the sauce was pretty dang good! Never checked in on me once to see how it was or if I wanted anything else. Finally I just decided to leave and even asked her for the rechnung twice! Never came, was so fed up I just left some cash on the table and walked out. I will not be back.
