It's best not to go to this restaurant if you have an allergy. That makes you an unwanted guest for whom the chef no longer wants to cook. The waitress mixed up some of our order and got stroppy. The food was basically ok. But never order a rump steak with rosemary potatoes and lava salt. That was a DESASTER!!! Fries and burgers were good. The deep-fried schnitzel was also good. read more

I really enjoyed our meal here. My co-worker was trying to find this restaurant he had eaten at a few years ago, I'm glad we stumbled across it and happens it was the place we were looking for. The Schnitzel selection was great and we both enjoyed the items we ordered. It seemed really popular with the locals, so we figured we were in the right place. Have been here three times in the last few months. Have tried a variety of dishes & will go back again. First visit had the grilled pork chop with sauerkraut & mashed potatoes. Darn near ate every bite on the plate. Delicious. Second time had the baked potato with salad & turkey and mushrooms. Not very many mushrooms & I think a sauce would be good with it. Third visit again had the baked potato with salad but this time with the ribs. Probably my least favorite. Don't know what I was thinking as a former Texan ordering ribs in Germany. A little dry. Needed more smoke, spice & sauce. Next time I'm getting the jäger schnitzel. If you get a side order of spaetzle make sure it's the one with grilled onions & cheese. read more

Looking for a less crowded location, i found this quite little spot just a few blocks from Römerberg (Historical Market Square). From the moment I sat down the waiter was friendly and attentive. They had menu in English, which was helpful, although most places provide menus in multiple languages. The food came out quickly. The schnitzel was crunchy and the breading stayed on perfectly. It was an excellent portion size. I would recommend taking a short walk around the area and trying some of the wonderful resturants outside the tourist trap centers, you will not be disappointed. read more

As a US business person traveling for work of course you want to enjoy some of the local cuisine- this was a perfect venue. A very extensive array of German favorites - wurst, schnitzel kase spetzle and biers! It gets very busy as it's in a central Zeil shopping area - can get loud - but it's not ever a problem- the service is outstanding and always helpful. My favorite here is the ribs! It's gigantic - can feed 2 little asians (me being one) - and oh so finger-licking good! For dessert, we had the kaiserschmarrn in vanilla sauce and it was an explosion in my mouth! They used fresh vanilla in the sauce. Sooooo good! I don't like milk but I could probably drink gallons of this sauce. What delighted me most of all is their selection and price of scotch. Glenfiddich and good ol Johnnies go for only 2.5€ Macallan at 5€ and Lagavulin at 6€!!! I don't usually mix my drinks so I only had one kind, must go back to try the others (and have another plate of ribs)! read more

Great food at a decent price. Service was welcoming and quite quick except for one hold up. My husband had the pork medallions in green pepper sauce and I had the baked potato with lamb chops with side salad. My dish was huge and delicious. We sat outside on the cozy patio. One disappointment: there are dishes on the German menu that aren't on the English menu (besides the specials of the day). After having gone there, I can't say that I was impressed by anything. Most of the fare was German--executed in a way that was just O-KAY. The portions were gigantic so I suppose that's a strong point but with unremarkable food, is that all that important...? In the end, I felt like I could get this German fare basically anywhere and at a slightly better prices. I stopped in here with a group of friends while we were traveling through Europe, and we loved this place! Their sausage platter was delicious! The schnitzel plates were also delicious. We had a few local beers and some spiced wine, all great! The servers were kind, and the bartender was a master of his craft! But they've got a great location smack dab in the middle of the city and that's why anyone goes there. Or perhaps there are still people who just don't know what decent food is. I have been to Leib & Seele many times, but have never experienced their food as I have been on day drinking missions each time there. The places is always rather crowded so I figured their food would be a hit. I never really knew what they sold, to be honest, but I figured it would be tasty fare given the amount of people always sitting inside and outside (weather permitting). I went there on a day where I had a major hangover and was craving schnitzel and heavy German food. I heard they had German food and I had a coupon for it. I crave German food maybe like 3 times a year, and all of those times are when I am hungover and need something to soak up the alcohol. This was one of those days. In addition, I am easily pleased when in one of these moods. I find German portions massive and the food heavy, and as long as it's fried and battered, I will leave content. What the heck, Leib & Seele??? I was super hungover and would have thought a Big Mac was prime rib and I managed to find your food repulsive. First of all, the coupon I had was 'buy one entree get another free'. The person I was with was in a schnitzel hangover mood as well. According to the coupon and the menu, we got our choice of sides to our schnitzel. I ordered fries and he ordered cheese spaetzle. The food comes out, and I got my schnitzel and fries and he got a massive plate of just cheese spaetzle. WTF?!? Who in 2015 eats a massive plate that weighs 15 lbs of cheese spaetzle???? Apparently the coupon meant the choices were schnitzel and fries OR just a plate of cheese spaetzle. Still- that is beside the point. WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND CAN EAT AN ENTIRE PLATE OF CHEESE SPAETZLE!??! And survive the artery blockage afterwards. Geez. Needless to say, he hardly touched it. He would have had a heartattack had he tackled this. My schnitzel was gross so I gave him a bit of it and he chewed with disgust. My fries were so overcooked that they tasted of greasy crunchiness. They were packed but the staff there recognized how famished and exhausted we were and offered us a seat at the table. While we were enjoying some great beer, they made a table available for us. My only gripe is that the restaurant is always busy and it's often hard to get a table as everyone hangs out there for a while as the place is so great. I've eaten here several times because it is convenient to my hotel and provides consistent food. The quality of the food is decent and service is ok. However, after the last 2 times, I'm probably not going to eat here any more. The service staff started asking me to add a "tip" to the check. This is highly unusual and I do not see them asking their German customers the same question. This is obviously targeting non-German customers in the hopes that they are not aware of the customs of service in Germany. I said "no" both times and the staff got annoyed that I refused to add a "tip" as the service wasn't all that great to begin with. read more

English menus are also available ( the weekly specials are written only in German, though). I had Eisbein with Sauerkraut and potato puree which was one of the weekly special dishes. The Eisbein was juicy and meaty, the sauerkraut was OK and the puree was very delicious and creamy. I am not in the position to judge how authentic it was because i rarely eat Eisbeins, but I like this restaurant because the atmopshere was great and the waiters were super friendly! read more
