We had a wonderful visit here today. Lauralee was a great guide & shared her beautiful space & animals with our group. We had plenty of time & interactions with the goats, cats, pigs, guinea pigs, chickens, roosters & guinea pigs. She helped us to know them as individuals where we saw their little & big personalities. For instance, Matthew, the Turkey, is super cuddly & likes hugs. Henry, the tuxedo cat, also likes to be carried. The property is lovely, a true paradise with blooming plants. She takes volunteers on some days each week, but the admission fee was well worth the time & the cause. This is a great spot for all ages to visit. We stopped at Paia on the way there & back too, so pick up a snack or some kitschy or artsy store time on the way. read more

The first word that comes to mind is magical. This is a place for rescued farm (mostly) animals who have been abused in another life. Here they will only know love, safety, and kindness. There are lots of farm animals in addition to Guinea pigs and cats. It seems the only life mission of the cats is to greet and love the visitors. There are several large tortoises and they love to be brushed! I had no idea they have so much feeling in their shells. They will even fall asleep during brushing! The animals are very cuddly, and even the turkey loves to be held. This visit may be the highlight of my year, and I am fortunate to have many highlights. Laurelee is a treasure. read more

This is one of my favorite places to visit when we come to the island. A somewhat remote farm sanctuary which rescues abused/abandoned animals of all sorts. They have tours to explore the beautiful scenic grounds, set on several acres with a beautiful view of the ocean. I learned it started off as a sanctuary for cats, (which there are many), but they then started accommodating several other animals which all seem to cohabitate peacefully together. We love Leilani's Farm Sanctuary! And not just because of the cute animals, gorgeous views, and peaceful vibe. But we love the work that's being done there to protect animals. My family and I booked a farm tour for 2/15/25 but came a couple hours early that day to volunteer. We were tasked to weed certain areas. There weren't hard expectations so even though we weeded as much as we could we also took advantage of cuddling a few cats and brushing the goats and donkey. The farm tour was a great way to finish up our morning. Our guide was very friendly and personable. You can tell she really loves the farm and believes in their mission. We decided to come back here on our most recent visit to Maui, this time with our kids in tow. We had a great time seeing the farm, getting to interact with the animals, and learn about everything. We felt that the price is a bit steep, and they are a little over-the-top and factually questionable with some of their information on non-vegan agricultural practices. This is hands down the best Farm Sanctuary I have visited so far. I always try to visit a different one when I travel if one is local to the area. I really enjoyed this location. The Leilani Farm Sanctuary is beautiful and the property is 8 acres of incredible land for all the wonderful animals to live on in harmony. The tour is very interactive. You can pet, hug, hold, feed and tour along with many of the free-roaming friendly rescue animals. Each one has their own name and their own backstory about how they ended up at the sanctuary. There are so many different animals ranging from guinea pigs to cows. This sanctuary is ran by volunteers who love what they do. This tour was the highlight of our entire trip to Maui!!! I had decided to stop eating meat when I turned 40 and visiting farm sanctuaries periodically is a wonderful and educational reminder to stay on the meatless path. Animals are our friends, not food. The animals all appeared happy and very well cared for. The mission of this program (to rescue neglected, abused, or factory farm animals and promote the notion of a vegan diet as being good for the body, planet, and animals) is great. The only reason I'm not rating my experience at the the farm higher is that the tour guide we had nearly ruined my experience. She roughly picked up the cats and thrust them at us saying "hold a cat". This made me uncomfortable as I'd rather approach a cat and let it sniff me, then pet it. I would never roughly pick up a cat I didn't know for fear of distressing it. During the tour, she ignored questions myself or my travel partner asked (such as what diet the animals ate or what made her decide to become vegan) or rudely told us now was not the time to ask questions. She rushed us through the experience. I felt I had no time to interact with the animals before being whisked away by her. She was also in credibly condescending. She spoke as if from a script in a very passive aggressive manner. She pretty much ruined the tour and experience for me. I'm a vegan and this was my first time visiting a farm sanctuary. I was excite, happy, and had a few inquiries. I was greeted with hostility and a rude brusque attitude. It was very disappointing. read more

We visited the farm in the middle of March. What a treat!! Our guide was wonderful. She took us all around the farm and provided a lot of information on the animals and their background. The animals are very well cared for here. You really feel at peace when visiting. We got to cuddle cats, chickens and helped feed the goats. My 7 year old nice absolutely loved it! Also, our tour group was small (10 of us total). They even let you stay afterward if you like. This place is worth the visit. We stayed in Lahaina but made a day out of it by visiting the Maui Pineapple farm first and then a stop by delicious food trucks by Costco on the way back. read more

It was so much fun!!!!! We got to see so many animals that included goats, chickens, ducks, a pig, rabbits, donkeys, cats, tortoises and guinea pigs (WHICH we got to feed papaya to). She asks for a $20 donation which I was more than happy to give. She let's us pet the animals and even hold them (the cats and chickens). Make sure you wear shoez!!!! We booked this visit on a whim for our last full day in Maui and I'm so glad we did. From the moment you walk up you are greeted by the cutest chickens and then ..the cats. I was in heaven (Eric and Sarah were my besties the entire time) We arrived a little early so we got to wander around and give all the cats treats and feed the deer. All of these animals are so very sweet and you can tell how happy they are to be there. Our tour was amazing and I loved hearing every animals story. This is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth. The land/ocean view is beautiful. The animals are friendly, the volunteers are passionate (it's 100% volunteer run!), and the owner Laurelee is an absolute kick! I have been to a few sanctuaries/rescues/shelters and often I feel sorry for the animals, wishing I could bring them all home. Not here, these animals have THE LIFE!! They live on 8 acres, truly a story-book farm with the most charming barns, houses, etc. The tour is not "typical tour-like", it is like going to a friends home & hanging out with a group of great people- petting, brushing & feeding all sorts of animals, most of the time cracking up as the animals do the darnedest things! I have taken a number of friends on the tour and everyone tells me it was the highlight of their trip. Get your hair combed by a goofy cat at the picnic table, take a seat w/ "lap hens & roosters", waddle w/ a duck, carry & kiss a giant turkey, feed carrots to guinea pigs, trot alongside the deer, snuggle bunnies, pet both wild and domestic pigs, love-up the cow, call out to the peacocks, goof off with the silly goats, and laugh as the friendly donkeys compete for your attention. A friend and I recently visited Maui and the Leilani Farm Sanctuary was one of our first activities/stopped we had planned for our stay. I had emailed back and forth with Laurelee, the founder of the sanctuary, to confirm our plans for a tour one Saturday. She was incredibly helpful and a delight to communicate with. The day of our tour, we drove to the sanctuary location in Haiku. The sanctuary is tucked away a bit, giving it a sense of calm and really allowing the animals to have the space they need to thrive. General tour groups are small...I think our was about 8 people? Laurelee provides the group with an overall experience with the animals throughout a walking tour of the sanctuary. During your time at, and tour of, the sanctuary, Laurelee introduces the animals - including chickens, ducks, donkeys, pigs, goats, cats, deer, tortoises, and rabbits. You learn the names and stories/background of each animal, really, and get to pet and bond with them...and even give some treats (though, admittedly, it was very entertaining watching my friend trying to feed a tortoise some grapes! The tortoise was pretty enthusiastic to get a snack and I think my friend wanted to ensure his fingers wouldn't be included.) You come to realize the amount of adoration and care that goes into the sanctuary, especially seeing how all the animals respond to Laurelee. As another reviewer has noted, there are some things to be considered when visiting the sanctuary. At 10am on a Saturday, when our tour was held, the mosquitoes are definitely out...so bug repellent is a really good idea. Also, dress appropriately. This is a farm and you're dealing with the elements. Boots, or at least shoes that you could get muddy or dirty (and which also have traction), are highly recommended. All in all, a really interesting and fun experience. I would absolutely recommend the Leilani Farm Sanctuary as somewhere of interest to someone visiting Maui. read more

HEAVEN ON EARTH. As an avid farm sanctuary enthusiast, it is very clear to me that farm sanctuaries are the happiest places on earth. Animals experience massive amounts of cruelty at human hands, and farm sanctuaries are places of respite, love, hope, and healing, where animals are free to be themselves and live out their natural lives. Learning about how farmed animals are treated is why I went vegan a couple years ago (this was one of the best decisions I've ever made). They are no different than the dogs and cats we share our homes with - they each have personalities and unique preferences. Hawaii is also a magical place, so a farm sanctuary on Hawaii is the perfect fit. My partner and I are both vegans and animal advocates and I knew this would be the perfect place to marry. I will upload some photos later, but it was just truly amazing. I highly recommend this as a place to elope/wed, or to have a date, take a friend, bring family, etc., to show others this amazing slice of paradise. Laurelee is an incredible, inspiring human who has devoted her life to creating a more compassionate world. I would put this as a must-visit on a trip to Maui, whether you go for a tour on the weekend or volunteer here. My friend and I loved it here!! Laurelee was amazing and is doing so many wonderful things for all the animals. A true kind hearted, loving and genuine human being. I wish I lived on Maui so I could volunteer and help her out regularly. We wore older clothes and used bug spray all over because of the previous reviews and I'm glad we did.. We happened upon this place on the way back from ziplining. If you're using your iphone to map your way here, I would suggest reading the overview first and then drive. Then instead of following the turn by turn horrible directions, look for the mailbox that says 260, then park, and then walk to the front. Iphone maps... You suck! Please fix your maps. Don't tell me to park and walk 2 miles. Thanks. Leilani Farms is owned by Laurelee who REALLY loves animals. She shelters and rescues all sorts of homeless animals you can possibly think of and has a passion and story for each one she keeps safe harbor. There was a black baby goat by the name of Ella Fritzgerald that I got to hold throughout the entire tour. I got to feed her rabbits, meet her two donkeys, meet and pet a pot belly big, see baby chickens and ducks, and even feed some of the tortoises. There was even a sweet doe following us around with a collar. Laurelee is great. She educates you about being Vegan and how animals are treated before they become your food. There were so many things that I just had no idea about! Very unique, fun, interactive and pleasant place to go. I LOVE animals, and after visiting Lauralee, I think one day I will do the same as she...I will have a farm of my own and rescue animals myself. BTW....Larurelee...if you're reading this...please say "hi" and bump heads with Sugar! (Sugar is a rescued cat who loves to bump heads with you and is SUPER friendly.) Pre-cautionary: I was literally eaten alive by mosquitos and my shoes got all muddy...so I would suggest dressing appropriately. Wear long pants and boots. Well worth the visit! What a wonderful experience!! I loved meeting Lauralee and seeing what a great place she created- a home for unwanted animals of all shapes and sizes. She restores your faith in humanity and it's a joy to tour her sanctuary and meet her residents. They love and trust her so, adorable to see her deer, goats, donkeys, cats follow her around. Pigs, Guinea pigs, geese, ducks, chickens, and rabbits to meet too. A great tour loved every moment. Bring shoes and clothes you don't mind getting a little dirty- though she has boots and ponchos if needed, sunscreen, hat. Some reviews said to bring bug spray (you can get in haiku at the market). We bought and when we toured- 4pm in a Wednesday there weren't any mosquitos out- so hit and miss. I had an 8 month old baby strapped to my husband and we all agreed it was a MUST on our vacation. TL;DR: This place is awesome, unique, and fun if you love animals. I came here with my wife and 2 kids, ages 3 and 5. We are animal lovers and have gone to a variety of zoos and animal encounters, but I've never really been to a place like this. If you love animals and always felt like zoos weren't quite interactive or educational enough, you will really like Leilani's. You know how petting zoos are typically pretty sad, with a bunch of cramped sheep and goats in a stinky pen? This is the opposite. The place is like a luxury, multi-acre, outdoor home for a surprising variety of animals - deer, cats, chickens, pigs, tortoises, goats, donkeys, and rabbits. The animals are not milked or eaten, they're more like wild-ish pets. Laurelee took us on a tour and told us the story of how the sanctuary came to be, and introduced us to each of the animals. Its sort of amazing how well each of the animals knows her and responds to her, and how much she understands about each individual. It's a little like Dr. Doolittle. You get to hang out with each animal and learn how they came to the sanctuary and what their lives are like. We spent just under 2 hours and it was very memorable and fun for both kids and adults. Laurelee took photos of us with the animals and emailed them to us afterward. Some Tips - You have to call or email ahead of time to set up the tour. It's not really a zoo that has general admission. It's a guided tour of a farm-like environment. - Spray with insect repellent before starting the tour. There are a lot of mosquitoes. - The suggested donation for a private tour was $125. It was well worth it, as it was much more interesting and unique than, say, a tourist trap train ride or submarine ride for the family. Also, it was cool to help support the animals and the work the animal sanctuary is doing. - The place is run by people passionate about animal rights, so at the end of the tour we got some literature from PETA. The kids got PETA coloring books. There was nothing pushy about it, though, and we thought it was fine even though our own views are not as strong as PETA's. read more

Spent an Amazing morning @ Leilani Farm Sanctuary in Haiku on Saturday. Laurelee was an amazing host who made us feel right at home upon our arrival. We experienced a little Ulalana raining mist but Laurelee had it all covered with galoshes, ponchos etc. If you want to get up close & personal with farm animals and even some Axis deer who love to be petted and follow you around, this is the place to visit. My husband and I did a tour of the farm that we booked on Airbnb, and it was one of my favorite things that we did on Maui. LauraLee (who owns the farm) is obviously very passionate about what she does, and is very knowledgeable. She knows all her animals by name (and seeing as there are I think 250ish animals there, maybe more, that's impressive). Going to Leilani Farm Sanctuary was my favorite thing we did while honeymooning in Maui. My husband and I were the only visitors that day, so we got an extra personal tour. Laurelee, the sanctuary founder, is an amazing woman. It's so obvious how much she loves these animals & how much they love her back. The tour is very hands on, not just looking at or trying to pet a rabbit from behind a fence. Laurelee walked us all around the property and introduced us to all the animals. There are cats, goats, pigs, donkeys, rabbits, geese, chickens, roosters and a deer. Some highlights of our visit were meeting Alex-the 3 week old goat, Berney-the "wild" boar and holding a sweet chicken named Pumpkin while she ate an apple right from my hand. Leilani is a place of magic and love. The farm is set on 8 stunning acres in one of the most beautiful spots on Maui. They have tours a few times a week and we can't recommend going enough. Each time we visit Maui we make sure to get to Leilani at least once - if not a couple times! It's that awesome. From kids to adults, everyone will have a blast interacting with and learning about the animals. Laurelee and her staff are so knowledgeable, kind, and helpful. They let you get up close and personal with all the animals. You can hug Matthew (turkey), brush Charlotte (pig), take a selfie with Veronica (deer) and the Lise goes on. With over 300 animals there is something for everyone. The tours last just under an hour. Leilani is also a non profit. So any extra donations go right to all the amazing animals.
