A lot of people didn't know that you could actually take public transportation from the desert to the city, including myself. Found out that from Union Station, the connection hub with Amtrak will take you to Fullerton where you connect with the Surfliner Shuttle Bus which will take you all the way to Palm Springs with stops at Morongo, Downtown Palm Springs, the PSP Airport and lastly Palm Desert and Indian Wells. This main hub is the center to the city. Besides the Amtrak that departs and connects here, you have all the metro lines. Everything kind of ends here and connects to each other. Start here and you can get to Long Beach with the blue line, Santa Monica with the gold line, North Hollywood with the red, Pasadena also with the Gold and even LAX. Everything connects to each other and Union Station would probably be the main and sometimes the last stop. It's a nice station with some food stalls. The lobby waiting area is quite nice with the full train station vibe. Just outside, you have downtown LA to one side, Chinatown to the other and literally across the street, the fame Olvera Street. Train tracks are quite well organized. Schedule tends to be good with schedules showing on the boards that's scattered throughout the station. It's a nice station if you haven't been. A cool place to check out.

They have kiosks to buy tickets and they have customer service kiosks too. I purchased a World Cup special tap card. This place is worth visiting if you're not taking metro or Metro link. This location has both metro and Metro link. This location has a lot of security guards and employees helping people finding the right stations. It is very clean and well maintained. They have free Dodgers shuttles too. This location has plenty of parking spot too.

We were taking the train back to the airport and it was convenient. The only thing I found strange is that the elevators only take you down to the ground floor but not up. You have to take the escalator up. Also, the escalator was broken when we were there.

Luckily, the bus was staffed decently, as the 1st bus took about 20 mins to get to the station, which is I think their routine frequency, but was packed, so let a few passengers off and only accepted a few new passengers at this station, leaving many behind waiting for the next bus. Fortunately, the next bus came within 5-10 mins and was empty enough to appease the demand of most of the awaiting passengers. Mind you, this was nearly 2 hrs before gametime, so considered rather early, and I'm not sure how much better or worst it would be as it comes closer to gametime with what I speculate a higher demand for transit with massive amounts of passengers. The area itself is a bit of an urban jungle, so just be aware to be safe, just like in sports as they say "Defense often wins the game!" - - so, don't fool around with your cell phone to tempt others to rob you and snatch it; don't stare down strangers to inspire confrontation; keep your possessions close to you and closed (especially ladies with purses); and mind your own business. You will notice the ceilings with the old film reels, which is pretty neat. They are not real though, just decorative art. At a recent weekday visit, this station was a little bit on the emptier side, and I didn't see any transit ambassadors or anything. But, the station has many people walking through the station in the daytime. You will be walking up or down two floors of escalators, depending on the direction you are coming from. This station is a little dim on the upper levels, but it is bright on the train level. There are no down escalators to the train level though. Only stairs. There is an elevator, though I did not take it, but did see it there. General travel during the day, this station seems fine. It's the B Line (formerly the Red Line) that runs through here.

This is the Santa Monica line, we changed at 7th and Metro to get on it. It is above the ground, which is nice. The actual station is outdoors which is nice. Not the best views or layout, they could use more benches, more signs and more machines. But glad it's there. If you need to get to the area, it beats driving!

Metro Green Line…read more This line has changed from a straight shot to or from Redondo to Norwalk. Now you must hop off from the K LINE and exit the LAX drop off just to connect to the green line. It's frustrating but it must be done to get on the green line. Overall, this train is ok compared to the blue and red line. Warning, you will encounter all types of people that are crazy, deranged, violent, smelly, loud, strange, weird etc.. You name it. Overall, it's a solid line for commuting from Point A-B. It's safe pertaining to engineering and train conductors. The people inside determines your experience. Ride at your own risk. Once you are on the Green line, you can expect a 25 minute ride all the way to Norwalk. There is a point from Long Beach Blvd all the way to Lakewood where it has not stops and it is zooming right through. That would be a 5 mile consistent ride without interrupted stops. Overall the Green line is solid.

The Los Angeles Metro Expo/Crenshaw Station consists of two distinct parts, located very close to…read moreeach other to make it a transfer station. In effect, it connects the East-West Metro E Line (Expo) to the North-South Metro K Line (Pink), making it a very important station for people trying to get to the airport and sporting venues like Sofi Stadium and Kia Spectrum. The at-grade station servicing the E Line opened on 2012, and was a stop on Phase I connecting downtown LA to Culver City. The underground station being the current terminus of the K Line, opened in 2022. It is quite deep underground (maybe 120 feet), having to take stairs to get to an intermediate floor, and then a long escalator to get to ground level. The two lines do not share a common track, and because the original station is outside, one has to walk street level and possibly cross a busy street to be able to connect. That's what I ended up doing when trying to exit the underground coming from Inglewood, and trying to catch the East bound 'E' train to downtown Los Angeles. Not ideal. The long term goal of the K line is to continue north, connecting to the D line and ultimately the B line. Since both of those lines run underground, it makes sense that this station would be as well. And the connection to make a transfer should be a lot better than what it is in Crenshaw/Expo.

(The younger, like his uncle, is mildly obsessed with public transportation and even served on the SFMTA youth board or commission or whatever.) Both of them enjoy experiencing parts of L.A. in ways they never have before, so I'm the "local" tour guide and expert. I didn't plan our day very well a few years back, so we needed to end our excursion early. We were headed west on the E Line. I was trying to think of an interestingly different way to get back to where we had caught a different train earlier, but time was ticking, so our only real option was to get off the train at Expo/Western and turn around. This is a "far-side" station, meaning that each direction has its own platform and that those platforms are past the street (in this case, Western Avenue). So we off-boarded past Western, and wouldn't you know it?--an eastbound train was coming, but because of the far-side situation, we had to cross the street twice to get over to the eastbound platform. We ran, but we didn't make it in time. I proceeded to explain to my charges that Western used to be the western boundary of Los Angeles and that a few miles north of here, at the corner of Western Avenue and Wilshire Boulevard, there was an underground Metro station for the D Line, which we had briefly ridden earlier in the day. As we talked and I answered questions, I was surprised by how many people started to fill up the platform. Granted, we had to wait more than ten minutes, but it was not quite rush hour on a weekday; where were all these people going? Its platforms are pretty long, so there's plenty of room to spread out. It was surprisingly clean, and at least on the platform itself--it's a whole other story on the train--I didn't feel unsafe, either as an out-of-town tourist or as a seasoned public-transit rider.

The latest new station for Metro - Los Angeles, Aviation/Century Metro Station just opened to the…read morepublic on November 3rd. As the name implies, it is situated on a high elevated platform at the corner of Century Blvd and Aviation Blvd, right in the middle of the controlled chaos of LAX. Currently, it is the northbound terminus of both the K-Line and C-Line (though that will change once the LAX/Metro Transit Center Station opens later this year/early next year). The ultimate goal is to have the LAX automated people mover train up before the Olympics so travelers don't have to take the shuttle at all. Once all said and done, the vast majority of travelers would take either the K or more likely the C line up one more stop to connect to the people mover. On election day 2024 (November 5), all Metro rides were free to encourage LA County residents to vote, so my wife and I decided to check out this new station, starting from our place in Long Beach. We took our normal route, as if we were going to the airport for a flight, but continued on the C-Line until we couldn't go any further. That's this stop. There were a lot of Metro employees and contractors at the station, helping visitors and commuters. This is one of the few stations in the metro system that supports two different lines from the same platform, making it very important to know which train is arriving. The employees called out the train coming as it arrived, so we boarded the right train both times. However, the train's electronic signage indicating which train it is, doesn't always work. We've found that when there is only one line at a station, the trains do accurately reflect which line it is. But for this station, the train coming in did NOT have their signage on at all (indicating they would rather be noncommital than wrong). I've noticed this at other non-hub stations (like Pico), where they will have the signage at the front of the train turned off so you don't know which train is coming. And neither of these stations had clear signage (that we could see) at the platform indicating which train was coming next, when. It's not a hard problem to solve, and they have the right equipment to indicate it. We did have a nice conversation with a Metro employee, and he admitted that they were still working out the kinks (e.g. the brand new payment kiosks downstairs weren't working, and neither were the tablets that the employees had), along with the trains not accurately reflecting stops or lines). As we discovered, there really isn't much to do once we got down to street level. There are two large elevators on either side that were working (though sadly the one we took had already been 'marked'...the smell of human urine was in the air). There is a nearby bus stop where the LAX shuttle runs to the terminals, and a nearby Carls Jr's. Century Blvd is the main road that leads into the horseshoe that is LAX, and can be walked to from here if so inclined (1 - 2 miles). We ended up going back to the K line to take it to south terminus at Redondo Beach station.

You can connect with the Metro Blue (A) and Expo Line (E) lines on the upper platform or the Red (B) and Purple (D) on the lower platforms not to mention the Silver (J) line above ground. There are tap stands and gates at every entrance and exit, even between switch and when you tap between trains it simple "Transfers" and doesn't reduce your fare at all. I think I had three transfers from near Studio City to NoHo to this station to the Blue line the other day... Was kind of cool! Definitely enjoy going green and riding metro when I can. I did here a rumor that the new K (Pink) Line might extend over to here as well at some point which would be pretty great. It's often busy here and the Expo and Blue are constantly running. The Red and Purple lines don't run as frequently as the others and as the day goes on, but it's about a 10 minute wait usually until after 5 PM where things shift and by night maybe every 15 to 30 minutes. I believe eventually Metro and this station will get back to later hours again and eventually run all night. Great Metro staff and the most you'll see at any station other than Union station. You can catch trains and/or exit from through The Bloc shopping center or across the street on the corner of 7th & Flower St.

Public transportation in Los Angeles, California…read more.. We don't have subways in Hawaii. That's why mainland transportation system is fascinating to me. It's organized and efficient! We had to use the Metro because parking at Exposition Park was sold out per information on an email. Tim knew that the 7th Street Station in Downtown LA would get us to the concert. We parked around 6th and Flower in a metered street parking. It's free after 10pm. Uhg. It's better than parking in a paid lot. We got Tap Cards at a kiosk, entered the station, hopped on the Metro, and got to Exposition Park in no time! Note: it's not the cleanest nor the safest. We just walked quickly and maintained awareness of our surroundings.
