Welcome to East Hollywood-ish courtesy the LA Metro Redline station of Hollywood and Western... The hustle and bustle of the intersection down into this subway haven is constantly busy, but the station itself is pretty spacious and laid back for the most part. A lot of urban flare and mixes of cultures, cuisines, and characters nearby. The TAP terminals for either purchasing or reloading your TAP card are almost always fully functional and well-lit. The Metro workers are always on-site and close by unlike a few miscellaneous stops you might hit I feel like they are easy to flag down or spot if you have any questions or issues here. Like most of the LA Redline stations, there is quite a bit of art, decorum, and appeal to the eyes and here you get a slice of nostalgia above the platform level with the old train replicas coming out of the walls, some multicolored checkered tiles, helpful visual ads and some unique seating on the platform level. It's a station with history, but also relevance.

This station, one past USC and one before Staples Center, is a convenient stop for those who need…read moreit. There's no parking; it's a walk-up stop. It's an open stop (read: no barriers to ticketing or boarding) with an MTA monitor. It's inbetween a street next to the freeway and the soon-to-be USC housing complex (presently in construction). As a novice rider, one should know that they can take the Expo line north two stops to the 7th Street DLA hub to switch to any line or take it up one stop to Staples Center to switch to the Blue line.

The station is pretty much like all Metro stops. It can get kind of slow around this area since it's at the street level and has to cross intersections so factor in a bit of travel time if passing through here.

The Pacific Avenue stations is very similar to the 5th street stop just before with a long onsides platform as unlike other Metro Lines the A actually loops around after it's last stop at Downtown Long Beach station rather than reversing in the direction it came like the B (Red), E (Gold) Expo, D (Purple) or numerous others. The Pacific Avenue Station is extremely close to Ocean Blvd, The Pike Outlets, Beach, Shoreline and the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific where I had my high school prom ages ago. This station itself was built in late 1990 and has been remodeled and updated several times. Like many stations closer to the water and DTLB... there is no direct parking lot for riders after Wardlow Station and Pacific Coast Hwy Station. You can purchase a reload tap card metro fare at either end of the platform for Pacific Avenue and also connect with city busses for Long Beach as well as the Passport Shuttle Bus, AquaLink or AquaBus water taxis. You can take the train from this station all the way back to 7th & Metro Station or even as far as Azusa, APU and through San Gabriel Valley. Definitely recommend this as a great station being even more central if not just as much as the final station for the Metro A. "...Come on, it's the choo, choo!"

Northbound Blue Line Station, serving downtown Long Beach…read more This is the station that we take when wanting to go North on the Blue Line (to either LAX or DTLA). It is right across from the Burger King, and unlike other stations, there are a lot of empty storefronts in the area. There is no dedicated parking for commuters. It is the 2nd station going North, and such, is a nice place to enter the train to pretty much be assured a seat (it's a long ride to DTLA and preferable to seat vs standing). It gets a lot more crowded (standing room only sometimes) as the line continues to pick up passengers. The big news in June 2023, has been the merging of parts of the old Gold Line into the Blue Line. Now, Pasadena and Long Beach are connected directly and can be traveled without going through any connections (whereas before it was 2 transfers). This also means that Union Station is now served directly by the Blue Line (along with two stations that we enjoy visiting: Little Tokyo and Chinatown). Traveling today, it was a bit surreal to not be forced to get off on the 7th St/Metro Center. Instead we took it 3 more stops to the brand new Little Tokyo station. We could have continued to go directly to Union Station and beyond to Pasadena. It's crazy to think that you can go directly to Union Station from here, and then from there, take Amtrak to get to Chicago or beyond by rail. LA Metro continues to enhance the Light Rail/Subway system in LA County, and it's great that the line that serves Long Beach is an important part of that.

I took the expo line from downtown to Santa Monica on the last day of my trip. It was easy to…read moreunderstand and it took less than an hour to go from downtown to S.M. The station does pass by a couple of landmarks like Olympic stadium, shrine auditorium, and one of the collages. The scenery to and from is not bad either, I always like looking out the window and notice these things. I did see some homeless people on the train but that pretty normal in this town. I did not experience any overcrowdedness or anybody talking loudly on their phones. When I arrived at the last stop I noticed two metro police at the entrance so that felt good knowing they were visible and ready to help if needed. i did ask them for directions to the airport taking public transportation and they were helpful on that topic. The pier is literally just down and street and you can see it from the station. There is a ramp available for those with wheelchairs, scooters or in my case suitcases haha. On the way to the pier, there are some restaurants including a McDonalds (it is super crowded due to the tourist getting food). There is a super pretty mural across the street from the station (look at my picture for info). Also pro tip; if you are needing to travel to LAX from this location, go to the mural and a little further down there is a bus stop. Wait there for a bus that says 'aviation LAX'. This bus will take you to the airport in about 40 minutes and only cost $1.70 without a tap card. Still cheaper than doing flyaway for $8 or a private shuttle that starts at $25. If you are thrifty like me choose the bus.

Downtown Santa Monica stop (end of line) drops you on Colorado Ave., near 3rd Street Promenade and very close to the Pier. That makes it worth while riding this line! The area is so pedestrian friendly so taking metro makes sense. You can do so much on foot, spend the day in the area (beach, restaurants, shops, movie theaters, pier) and don't have to worry about parking and the cost of it! The actual station is outdoor, nice, easy to spot and to manage. Very easy to figure it out! Cute station, well light, signs well displayed, clean and nice. And the train was waiting for us!

Unlike the station just before it... 5th Street…read moreStation is a single-sided platform heading South just before the final Long Beach/Metro A/Blue Line stop, Pacific Avenue... Where the train wraps a loop and circles back to 5th/6th street and up back again... I guess it makes it easier in the grand scheme of things for both the metro and the flow of traffic but is more inconvenient as you have to continue in the opposite direction of where you might be coming from in order to return. The great thing is you can exit at the main street light on the corner or the side light right next to Starbucks as well as return for boarding at either. Unlike some stops, there isn't a designated parking area for the metro that isn't paid or a business lot, but it's very clean and well-kept. It's a very central area station, which I'm grateful for, but that wait to board again and then circle through the rest of Long Beach before returning downtown really does take up some time. When reaching the final stop the train did continue without much of a break at all, but they generally might for a short period as conductors/operators are human and require breaks, trade-offs with their fellow metro workers, and lunch and restroom breaks. I have noticed a lot of lines getting better about this to keep the flow going and improving the Metro across the board from Long Beach, DTLA, and many other major lines/trains throughout LA County.

The Blue Line is full of terrible stations. I'm happy that Metro is in the process of expanding…read moremetro rail around the county but I hope they can simultaneously improve the lines and stations that already exist. I think this is important for the betterment of our communities and so we we don't embrace ourselves when the Olympics come to town. This station is dingy like a dive bar but less fun. It lacks aspects like monitors with ETAs, the time, and announcement. Features like this are available at most other stations that aren't along the Blue Line. Not a fan, will not be using it again.

Stopped here to arrive at my destination. Not in the greatest part of LA or the cleanest station…read more Predominated by the Hispanic and African-American race. Probably not the best place to be alone at night. In the daytime, it's not too bad since there is a lot of traffic. Many Mexican stores nearby and people selling food on the street. For me it's just a stop to get where I need to go.

This station literally takes the breath right out of your body…read more I say that because for some reason while going down/up the stairs/escalator a huge windstorm abruptly engulfs you, so be warned and hang on to your hats. This station is my favourite out of all of the stops in the new respected Gold Line. I love how you go down the long escalator to the lovely architecture and the empowering words of flight throughout the station. As for the Gold Line itself, words cannot describe how excited I am for the line to finally be completed and at full use. I speak for the entire community and say thank you for finally completing this never-ending project and in the end, it was 100% worth it and at $1.25 for a 1-way ticket, I see no reason why you shouldn't try it at least once.

This is the Metro Gold Line station in Boyle Heights. It's on the Southwest corner of 1st and Soto…read morestreet. There is a bike lane on 1st street, which makes this an easy station to bike to. There is one elevator, a stairway down, and an escalator. It's a clean underground station with a few benches and trash cans. It's nice on hot days to wait down here, but there have been some crimes later at night. Only downside to this station is that the escalators often go out, and the entryway where the stairs and escalator are create a wind tunnel effect. Outside is a large plaza, and often a woman selling fruit or ellotes, and some bus lines can be caught here. On Soto street is a nice little place for someone to pick up or drop off as well.

Pretty popular destination station in the city of Tarzana off Reseda Blvd, just a beat away from…read morethe city/neighborhood of Reseda, California with a couple of connecting services in all directions. Reseda Orange (G) Line Station has wide platforms and multiple kiosk for purchasing Metro Tap Cards for riding metro. It's near so cool local spots like Garden Wok (vegan/vegetarian Chinese food), LA Dance Sport Club and Petite's Place to name a few. You connect to the 240 - Northridge/Reseda/Devonshire, the LADOT Reseda/Northridge Dash (at Sherman Way), and 422 Commuter Express (at the on ramp for Reseda Blvd on the 101 FWY). The Metro G - Orange Line as well as Reseda Station is one of the few 24/7 routes for Metro Lines with more frequent service during the day every 5 to 15 minutes and less frequency after 7pm (every 15 to 30 minutes). So plan accordingly. Note: Reseda Station also has free parking on the east or west bound sides.

If you stick to yourself then you can easily get on the busway to the redline at North Hollywood. The station has lots of parking. It also has a place to buy a new metro card. It has maps and a sign telling you when the next bus will arrive. There is some seating as well. It's perfect for those local to the valley to use the public transportation. However, just remain vigilant around the other people who use this station.
