There is a nice, clean restroom building as well as pavilions for rental and a pond for fishing. Semi-recently a disc golf course was added, which I'm not a fan of because they cut down a decent amount of the front part of woods and it takes away from the experience in nature. But, I suppose it's a good way to bring more people to the park. The hiking trails can be a bit rooty, rocky and muddy in parts, so best to pay attention to your footing. I don't mind it because it makes the hike more challenging. There are up and down hills as well as a suspension bridge. The trails are marked with different colors. I also like that it's not easy to get lost here since I have a pretty bad sense of direction. Also, I've seen birds, deer, chipmunks, squirrels and snakes here. Whether you want to have a picnic by the pond, get a good hike in or both, Royalton Ravine is a nice setting for it!

The Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is a cool little spot. The staff are super…read morenice. Inside the center you can hear wildlife sounds and learn what to look for. The standout for me was this amazing topographic map where you move the sand and it updates the contour lines live. I wish I had that when learning maps. They also run a bunch of events... I've done a luminary walk and an owl prowl, plus there are eagle nest outings and birding stuff. The gift shop is small but nice. Overall, if you're looking for a good nature outing, this(and the other sites they manage are great. Swallow Hollow is my favorite trail, but the whole area is awesome.

There's many shelters available to rent that are spread throughout this expansive park. In that way, it reminds me of Akron Falls State Park. So many playgrounds, too. We visited a couple, but I think there were several more. Originally I planned to take my boys to play in the creek at Charles E Burchfield Nature Center, but I noticed pictures of people playing in a creek here, too, and I'm glad we came. We did have a hard time finding a clear path to the water where we first noticed people, but there's a stone staircase leading down near shelter 21 and the playground with the dinosaur slide. So many tadpoles. Later we found another place to access the creek from a nature trail. As another review mentions, the trail is narrow, but only at the beginning. It widens later on. There's a fun little bridge the boys liked crossing, and a great spot for a picnic near the creek. You'd have to bring your own folding table but it's a relatively flat area in a grove of trees. If you like the trails and creek at Charles E. Burchfield, but you need to rent a shelter, this park is perfect.

But let me emphasize the "wilderness" part of the trail name; it's not as well maintained as some hiking trails you'll find in WNY. From the start, it was clear this was a hidden secret of the area. With no parking lots at the trailhead, parking was limited to a small cleared area alongside the road. This space was only large enough for about three vehicles. Getting into the woods, the ground was uneven and rocky, and any trail markings became lost or confusing. Trails were overgrown with tall foliage, and poison ivy and poison oak encroaching and often crossing the trails. This said, however, the well-constructed benches, the bridges, and numerous signs about the local wildlife did demonstrate that this trail had at one point been lovingly built. Be prepared. Wear appropriate footwear. Mind where you step. And keep an eye on the brook so you know which trails to follow. It is not a difficult hike, but it is more rough than was expected. Mostly due to the need for maintenance on a few of the supposedly marked trails.

After having some ice cream, we went for a quick walk throughout the park. This park really is great. It is a little small but that also makes it so nice. No need for maps or worries of getting lost, it's perfect for a nice walk. My son loves looking for all the wildlife especially if there are any ducks or fish. Luckily for him, there are plenty of ducks around here. Another nice thing about this park is that it is very scenic for photography. There were a few different groups there doing what looked like senior pictures or photos before an event. Whether you're looking for a nice walk, scenic backdrop or just a quiet place to sit on a bench and think, this park has it all.

I am amazed at how restful and beautifully maintained it is. The flowers were welcoming, the small waterfall enchanting, the trails curious and winding, and the wildlife amusing. I felt more relaxed and grounded after my visit than I have in a long time. The only negative was that someone was smoking weed on a park bench and the odor instantly turned me off. I'm sure smoking is not allowed, but I was chagrined that in this little section of The Garden of Eden someone would assume to make the place smell like a stoner's living room.
