The impeccably laid out fruits which taste as good, if not better, when I actually got them home! These are pristine fruits. What beckoned me here are the hard to come by Early Girl tomatoes, which are now in season--my favorite, so much better than the heralded heirlooms, though Sign's have those too. I wandered around here in a daze, a semi mesmerized hypnotic fugue and stupor, staggering around totally delighted with every single thing. Thy do seriously carry it all, e.g. cheeses, prepared foods and burritos, tamales, pizzas plus all the fresh fruits and veggies I could dream up. Did I mention their pies asnd cakes plus other baked goods? They also have tons of dried fruits. I turned there corner and there on ice was sitting smoked salmon and packaged fresh salmon. I. Mean. Did I mention their chocolate covered cherries, which are my favorite confection, not too sweet with a bit of bitterness. As we were checking out, the cashier told us that if we were there before 5:pm, we could actually taste some of the fruits we were buying! Whaaaaat? Sold. The store is beautifully laid out, so. Much more than a typical grocery shop. The prices are fair, and btw., they have organic stuff too! Can't wait to go back for my addiction: their summertime peach balsamic vinegar. I put it on my slides every single night. They house make bottles and bottles of different balsamic vinegars, e.g. I bought their cucumber sumo, honey ginger, and lychee--those for my husband who loves those flavor profiles. They also let you sample them before you buy, which is such a thoughtful touch because the worst feeling is when I buy something from a place and get it home, only to discover I hate it. Their customer service is fire. Love love love--this is what makes living here such a treat.

Grocery Outlet is my treasure-hunt grocery store…read more About a decade ago, I used to go three or four times a week. These days, I am unfortunately down to one or two visits a month, but I still walk in with the same feeling: what completely random, wonderful thing am I going to find today? And oh, the things I have found. Fizzy Harmless Harvest. Remedy chocolate smoothies. Shaka Harry momos and kheema matar. Navitas goji berries. Imagine chicken bone broth for half the usual price. Really good sauces, nut butters, cheeses, and wines that make you wonder why you have been paying full price elsewhere. Of course, the trick with Grocery Outlet is that when you find something you love, you cannot calmly tell yourself you will come back next week. Next week it may be gone forever. So you buy three, feel slightly unhinged, and later congratulate yourself for having excellent judgment. It is unpredictable, ridiculously good value, and still one of my favorite places to grocery shop. Every visit feels like a scavenger hunt, except the prize is dinner.

It's a treasure hunt for food Once in a while you'll find a great value ice cream like pints for $3. Don't bother with the non dairy ones though, you might regret it. There is no admission to verify if you're an employee though so anyone can purchase items from the vendors. Held on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from June - October from 10 am - 2 pm Schedule for 2014: June 12 & 26 July 10 & 24 August 7 & 21 Sept 11 & 25 October 9 & 23 There aren't very many vendors here. There's a gentleman that sells pastries, another that sells nuts, another that sells honey, and another vendor that sells fruits. The county said that they'll be adding another vendor that would sell vegetables this year as well. I enjoy this farmers' market because I work in the Government Center so it's only steps away. Great way to get fresh produce to eat as a snack or for lunch. Cash only.

They have a huge variety of differently seasoned almonds and pistachios, both sweet and savory. The first week, I sampled 6 different kinds, with the older gentleman being very happy to let me try and talk about his favorites versus the most popular. I ended up buying the cinnamon honey almonds, the jalapeño cheddar almonds, and the chile lemon pistachios. I then made the mistake of letting family at the cinnamon honey ones and barely had a handful for myself. So I had to go back this week for more. The guy this week was also nice, and chatted with me comfortably, not pushy or awkward. He also rounded down on the price, being generous on the measurements. These are such a great work snack, I highly recommend getting some for your desk!

Excellent well marbled dry aged steaks with a matching price…read more I got a few big dry aged ribeyes and they were fantastic. I did dry brine them for a day before cooking, followed by a 2-zone charcoal grill (sear over the charcoal, bring up to temp away from the charcoal). The steak was fantastic - very tender, very juicy, and just a hint of the dry aged flavor. If you want the funkiness that a 60+ dry aged steak will bring this isn't it, but if you want something just a bit more complex than other steaks you'll definitely like this. $230 for 4 steaks isn't cheap, HOWEVER you'd never find this quality of dry aged steak in this quantity for that price at a steakhouse, and you won't find this quality at Costco or Whole Foods. The only comparable steaks I have had are from the premium online retailers, and I've tried many of them. Flannery Beef, Snake River Farms. DeBragga, Lobel's, Pat LaFrieda - all will sell you a very good steak. But: 1. It will cost more, given shipping 2. It will take longer 3. You're not supporting a local business So if it's Friday and you want a restaurant-or-better quality steak, Gambrel is the obvious choice. While I didn't purchase anything besides steak, I did notice they sell lots of high end Italian foods and charcuterie. It looked good and the prices matched the meat, maybe next time. Steak and pasta does make a good if indulgent meal. The overall vibe is of an old school butcher and specialty shop. Even if you've never been in one it's something you've seen on TV or a movie. The guy at the counter was also helpful with figuring out the portion I needed, fast at cutting, and trimmed the ribeyes beautifully. The only downside has to be the parking. Downtown Redwood City is just a disaster. I know they can't fix it but I seriously almost didn't come because the main thought in my head was "ugh am I going to be able to find a spot within walking distance?" Fortunately I was able to park right out front since it wasn't peak hours but that was just pure luck.

Walk boldly in, because it is, and make your family's night. Owner was a little gruff this day in person, and absolutely wonderful on the phone. No idea why.
