This is a come to Mecca place for me, my second home if I could. I usually have gone to their…read moreStanford Mall location and it was my first time here at RC--it bigger, bolder, better than I ever could've imagined. Wow wow and then some more Wow! The impeccably laid out fruits which taste as good, if not better, when I actually got them home! These are pristine fruits. What beckoned me here are the hard to come by Early Girl tomatoes, which are now in season--my favorite, so much better than the heralded heirlooms, though Sign's have those too. I wandered around here in a daze, a semi mesmerized hypnotic fugue and stupor, staggering around totally delighted with every single thing. Thy do seriously carry it all, e.g. cheeses, prepared foods and burritos, tamales, pizzas plus all the fresh fruits and veggies I could dream up. Did I mention their pies asnd cakes plus other baked goods? They also have tons of dried fruits. I turned there corner and there on ice was sitting smoked salmon and packaged fresh salmon. I. Mean. Did I mention their chocolate covered cherries, which are my favorite confection, not too sweet with a bit of bitterness. As we were checking out, the cashier told us that if we were there before 5:pm, we could actually taste some of the fruits we were buying! Whaaaaat? Sold. The store is beautifully laid out, so. Much more than a typical grocery shop. The prices are fair, and btw., they have organic stuff too! Can't wait to go back for my addiction: their summertime peach balsamic vinegar. I put it on my slides every single night. They house make bottles and bottles of different balsamic vinegars, e.g. I bought their cucumber sumo, honey ginger, and lychee--those for my husband who loves those flavor profiles. They also let you sample them before you buy, which is such a thoughtful touch because the worst feeling is when I buy something from a place and get it home, only to discover I hate it. Their customer service is fire. Love love love--this is what makes living here such a treat.

I first discovered The Market's catering when Palo Alto Players (the theatre company down the…read morestreet) started using them for opening night receptions. The desserts and savories stood out as more handcrafted and gourmet than other similar caterers in the area, and the theatre staff were extremely complimentary about their helpful team, interesting selection, and reasonable pricing. I learnt that The Market also donated items to one of the nonprofit's fundraisers, and their real and continued support of the community is a huge plus in my book. Since then, I've used The Market for catering 3 times. The first was a mini platter that owner Emel custom-created based on my preferences, and the quality and variety--even at a small platter size--were a surprise and delight. I appreciated her meticulous and hands-on work, and this first order made The Market my go-to caterer. The other 2 times were recent, for 60-80 person events, and I worked with Paola for both. Though the platters seem much less customisable now (maybe it was only possible with Emel), it was a smooth and easy process to select from their online catering menu, which sufficiently and accurately described each item. Paola responded within 24 hours to the online order form and provided the opportunity to review the proposal before taking credit card payment over the phone. She is wonderful to work with: everything was timely, efficient, and reliable. Of note: the grazing board (high quality and luxurious), the raspberry bars (my absolute favourite--I hope they never stop making these!), and the fresh fruit platter (indeed fresh and ripe, elevated with surprising/exotic fruits). I've been glad to continue recommending The Market's catering service to friends. Note: at the moment, delivery of catering orders is not available on Sundays.

We had a mediocre experience with The Market catering…read more We struggled to get in touch with them to place our initial order for a small event. We sent multiple messages and voicemails that went unreturned for several days. Just as we were getting ready to change plans and look for a different vendor, we heard back (they had been out on vacation). We decided to still give them a try. (Note: the owner response below suggests that they responded within 24 hours, but that doesn't match our experience - I think this misunderstanding is due to the fact that two of us coordinating the event had reached out to the Market . My initial inquiry submitted on their website went unanswered, and so a couple days later my colleague tried to call and left a voicemail. Eventually my colleague was able to connect with them to place an order. I actually never received any response by phone or email.) The food arrived on time, but the delivery team forgot part of our order. We tried calling both of numbers on the invoice associated with the Market, but they both went right to voicemail. We eventually got a hold of the delivery team and received our missing item halfway through our event. The portions we received were very small compared to the description. For example, "32 tea sandwiches" seems like 4-5 normal sandwiches sliced into 6ths - wild to pay $2.25 for each tiny sandwich slice. The quality of the ingredients seemed mediocre for the price (e.g. the bread seemed like basic bagged sandwich bread, sliced into uneven rectangles). The chicken skewers - the most expensive item we got - were surprisingly small. "Watermelon feta skewers bites" were about a third green olives (not listed in the description) which our guests found unappetizing - we would not have ordered this item if that ingredient had been disclosed. Salad was 99% plain mixed greens (the amount we received runs about $6.99 retail for organic mix at a specialty store). On the whole, most things seemed like we could have gotten similar-or-better quality items for a quarter of the price through Whole Foods. The plating for items was nothing special - again, supermarket take-away platters look about the same. It's really hard to justify the price we paid for the items we received. All in all, we found the service, food quality, and presentation to be unimpressive and overpriced, and the communication/delivery snafus made our event prep more stressful. Perhaps we caught them on an off day, but we were expecting more given the glowing Yelp reviews. Based on the experience we had, we'd recommend working with a different caterer.

Owned by a winner of a reality cooking competition, it makes sense why it is priced at a premium, and with that follows pleasantly attentive service, innovative dishes, and comfy seating. I found the food to be generally pleasant, and the only thing that is unpleasant is their proximity to the train station that interrupts conversation on an intervalized basis. Old Siam - I see the vision of this luxury take on an old fashioned, which is flavorally accurate. I think the garnish is a bit too simple beyond the block ice to properly convey that look. Roti Mataba - Intriguing dish as I've never seen roti used to encapsulate before, but its smart as it creates a flaky exterior that pairs incredibly well with the curry sauce. Pad See Ew - Large portion of a classic dish that is served on the lighter side but still tasty. I would clean up on the presentation though. Mango Sticky Rice - Beautiful arrangement of mango sticky rice that shows great knife skills of the mango. You can see the heart shape starting to form of the sticky rice as well, which is beautiful. I think it coild be even more advantageous to use rose to dye for a more warming color palette. Then I looked closer and realized they had just put the 50% off stickers on! Mega Mart has so many fresh sushi and Korean food options, which are my favorites, so of course I wasn't about to miss out. I ended up buying a lotttt: a pack of salmon nigiri, a mixed nigiri platter, a pack of uni & toro sushi, and a poke bowl. I also picked up some sundae (Korean blood sausage) because it's my partner's favorite. They also have a huge selection of bakery items and Korean rice cake desserts. I loaded my cart with so many things, but in the end I only bought a Dubai chewy cookie, it was only $5, which is such a steal! There was so much more I wanted to buy, but I knew I couldn't possibly eat it all, so I had to sadly leave the rest behind. And you know what? The sushi was so freshhhhh! Even though I bought it after 7 PM, the quality wasn't affected at all. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. Our family had such a filling and satisfying meal thanks to Mega Mart. I'll definitely be taking advantage of this deal many more times in the future!
