I trusted the stylus because she gave me a great haircut before, I went in to be colored copper brown from brown/black hair. The manager knew that double the dye wouldn't work to lift the color, but still allowed the Silas to do it so the top of my head was red the bottom was brown. I went into fix it. They bleached my entire head. and I looked like Ronald McDonald. It was nowhere near the color I wanted. Then they gave me an attitude and tried to turn it around on me not once but twice. I would avoid this like the plague and just pay extra upfront at the other salons versus trying to save money because what cost me was more than $200 in the end plus a bunch of stress and hair that I never even wanted this color. Alba is a salon stylist and is very good. The receptionist at the front desk has to do a better job. I was scheduled to arrive for my salon appointment at 9:30 am on a Saturday. I arrived at 9:23 - a little early. The receptionist told me Alba was not here yet, and did not know where she was, and she was scheduled to arrive at 9 am. I asked the receptionist if they knew that, why didn't they contact her customers? I drove all the way to the salon for an appointment that was made in advance. Now, I have no guarantee Alba was going to show up. The receptionist became very defensive and stated that I should be more sympathetic because Alba could be hurt somewhere. A 3rd person decided to chime in delivering messages of emotion. I wish Alba well. But, if there is an ounce of business acumen in this Salon, they should have apologized to me. This is about handling your business and customers appropriately so they feel welcome and WANT to come back. My statements had NOTHING to do with Alba, inasmuch as it had to do with the extremely poor customer service I received. They admitted that Alba DID text them earlier, but it was in Spanish, and none of them could read it. The demographics in Riverhead have a very heavy Spanish population ...this Salon couldn't find ANYBODY to interpret her email? Their business relies on customer service which was extremely poor that morning. When they asked if anyone spoke Spanish, a gentleman was sitting and read Alba's email. I originally came in for just a wash and trim ended up with a botched hair cut. I specifically said do not cut my front pieces (I had a middle part side bangs) that I wanted to grow it out one length... she ended up cutting so much from the front. Not even making it even, my left side was cut much more than the right. And theres also so many random super short pieces that dont even blend in with my hair. I didnt get it blow dried but i knew by the way she was scrunching up my hair she knew she messed up too. ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!!! Do not recommend at all! read more

Buyer beware!! This salon has hidden charges galore - like the 4% up-charge for using your credit card. With hair salons, some things are just a given - an expected part of the service. For example, when one has their hair done, one expects to have a dry head leaving the salon. But a $25 up charge for dry hair is extreme; especially considering that no product was used, no style was given, the hair was just, well, dried. I did NOT ask for a 'blow out' - I said I would prefer to leave with a dry head. At no time did the staff inform me that there would be an$25 up charge for this. Had I been notified - I would have walked out with wet hair. I don't understand why this is not an included part of the service. My daughter went to this salon to get her hair done for a wedding, as she was a bridesmaid (per bride's request). She received a sloppy, messy, and unflattering half updo. After she was done crying about her disappointment in the style, we were able to take it out, and her sister did a french braid that ended up looking great! You really owe her the $80 refund that you charged her. Weddings are already stressful, let alone being stressed out over her hair, and having to waste precious time having it redone. Really liked having a trustworthy place to do color. Instead of a touch up fee got charged a "first time" fee. When I asked the receptionist why she directed me to the colorist who stared at her and said, yes it was a touch up but you know we always charge a fist time fee. WHY? The hair washer got a lot of water down my back, and no one removed the color off my forehead and face. Went to sallys to get a number 4 color which is a medium ash brown then went to LEMON TREE for my appointment. However the lady who was going to do my hair told me that my hair was too dark so i should go back to sallys and exchange what i bought for a 5 and a 6 which is a lighter ash brown color... I specifically told them that I DO NOT WANT HIGH LIGHTS, that i want my whole hair colored. She said thats fine we'll just have to bleach it then deposit the color. Once i sat down i even asked her again if its really gonna come out like the color that i want. She even assured me that it will. However when it was done she did my hair entirely opposite of what i wanted. 1. SHE DID HIGHLIGHTS 2. ITS NOT THE COLOR THAT INWANT 3. MY WHOLE BACK WASNT COLORED. I called the next day to let them know however the receptionist wasnt even apologetic and was insisting that its my fault. read more

I was so pleased with the Lemon Tree at Riverhead. I ended up there rather by chance, as, although I am in the process of moving, I was desperate to get my hair done as soon as possible before starting a new job and could not wait to schedule an appointment somewhere. I was a little concerned when I walked in as it appeared somewhat run-down - I can't exactly put my finger on it, but it was not new and spiffy. I spoke with the helpful receptionist and he told me haircuts were $17 and that I should take it seat by the sinks in the back. After a little wait - there were 3 people ahead of me - I received a very nice and vigorous shampoo by the shampoo girl. I was then directed to a chair near the front and the stylist came to greet me. Again, I was a little concerned, as she cut my hair while sitting down. Not that I can't empathize, as I wouldn't want to stand all day, either. After cutting my hair, she asked me if I wanted it blow-dried, and I said yes (assuming correctly that this would be an additional cost). She gave me a nice blow out and trimmed it a little more. The total came to $22, and you certainly can't beat that! Moreover, I am extremely pleased with my hair cut - it looks great, and is exactly what I wanted. I went to one of those High-End Hamptons salons for a run of the mill balayage and Trim. They absolutely ruined my hair. Dakota at the Lemon tree was able to fit me in (in the middle of Prom week, no less) to fix me up and make me look and feel like myself again. She's an absolute color champion. She's the most talented hair dresser I've ever been to. I have a habit of going into the salon for cuts and saying "do whatever you think is best" and I ALWAYS leave more than satisfied. What's really impressive is that the cut looks great the day I walk out of the salon, but two weeks later it somehow looks even better. Jessica is also really incredible. One week ago, my wife made appointments for both of us at 11am at this Lemon Tree. When we arrived at 10:45, knowing we were early but they took my wife right away anyway. They asked me to wait 5 minutes outside as they had no sitting area inside due to COVID-19 restrictions. I waited outside, on a single metal chair in the blazing sun and heat. At 11:10am, I was soaking wet from the sweat and went to my truck. I texted my wife to tell them "Forget IT". They could have at least offered to allow me to stand inside in the AC or at the VERY least, offered me a bottle of water while I waited. That was the longest "5 minutes" I ever experienced. I was a walk in for a blow out and I didn't have to wait, which was nice. However, when I went to pay, the man at the desk said "30 dollars". What??? Christina did a nice job, but not $30 nice! I usually go to Lemon Tree in Patchogue and have gone to the one in Medford and only pay $15, so I didn't think I had to ask how much. (There are no prices posted) When I commented on the price, he said that some Lemon Trees only charge $8.99 for a hair cut. (so what). Lesson learned. I gave this place a second shot after a bad experience 6 months ago. If I had to rate that trip I would give it 1 star. I'm a friendly 20 year old girl and I can even look 15 or 16 to other people. I'm guessing this is what makes me seem like a pushover. Both times I went I only asked for a $7 trim. Plain and simple. Each time I explained to the hairdresser that I just wanted a quick trim - no wash, no dry. While I will say the hairdresser was more precise and didn't go scissor-happy on me this time she also pushed the blow dryer on me for a better sale. I said no three more times. By the second time I was saying no she was already blowing it on my hair. This turned my $7 sale into a $20 sale (excluding tip). When I asked the cashier why I was being charged $13 more than the sale price she said it was because of the blow drying. My hair was nowhere near dry because I had to physically stop the hairdresser - again - to let them know that no means no. Aside from the fact *that I said NO* I genuinely have always avoided blow drying my hair and it's not something I want to put it through. Maybe it's different at other Lemon Tree locations. I'm not sure. Never going to mine again though. It's fine if your employees want to increase their sales (I've been a part-time salesperson for three years myself) but when the customer says no, NO MEANS NO. :) read more

Cheri did highlights and a cut on me and it was terrible! She died my hair basically black then added white highlights. Nothing close I what I described which was light, sunny and natural. She wanted me to tell her where I wanted the exact placement of each highlight after she realized she messed up the base color big time. Never have I been asked that before. Had to go back for correction (I've never had to do this in my entire life) which was basically just adding more highlights. The entire time she tried to tell me how the situation was my fault. She was not really able to fix my hair since the issue was with the base color AND she ruined my tank top and cardigan by trying to strip some of the color out. Apparently she doesn't know how to wrap a drape around her clients either. Got two stars for at least attempting to fix my hair and the trim didn't totally screw up my hair. read more

I am giving Lemon Tree 5 stars mostly because I love the speedy service, walk in availability and flexible hours. It's hard for me to schedule hair appointments at salons that book months in advance due to my crazy hours at work. Both times I have been in I was lucky to work with Jessica. She is a great girl who's skills are magnificent! I get a full head of blonde highlights and she matched my highlights to my outgrown summer sun color perfectly. I went there a few years ago. I have naturally curly hair. It was quite long and very wavy. I asked for a trim and they cut it terribly short and did such a horrible job; there was very little wave to it. I wanted to cry. Went from below my shoulders to the bottom of my ears! Cut a foot off. Time had passed and I figured I would give them another chance. I now have short hair and went wanting a trim--and wanted it very short in the back. This place really needs Tabitha Coffey. We've been here twice and have had four different stylists. When you come in, the waiting area is a carpet-covered bench. The style books are dated. It is not unusual to see what appear to be customers sitting in chairs, chatting away....until they get up and start cutting hair. There are some who are working and some who are doing their own hair. My daughter got her hair colored there twice, I have gotten my hair colored once. They are very sloppy with the coloring. Be prepared to scrub coloring off your neck, ears, forehead, and out of your clothes. It sucks with brown. It really sucks with bright colors. The first time we went, I got a simple cut. Dakota listened to me and gave me a great haircut. My daughter liked her color and was okay with the cut. This time, my stylist was a little sloppy with the color, but cleaned me up alright. The cut was okay, but real poufy - "like a brown football helmet". My daughter tried a different color and it looked good while we were waiting. The end result was a tiny bit of color on the top of her head and not much of a cut. I kept asking my daughter if she was sure she didn't want a little more taken off or something else done with the color. She kept telling me she was fine. When we got home, she burst into tears. She hated the color and had argued with the stylist that she wanted more taken off. I called the salon back and told them that she was crying over the cut and that we would like to come back and have it corrected. The receptionist asked if we intended to come back the same day. I told him no, we had just spent 3 1/2 hours there and she was currently crying - not good right now. So we go back tomorrow to see if they can fix it. I'm tempted to go elsewhere, but want to give them a chance to fix the problem. The GOOD: It is a good location, the hours are good and they welcome walk ins. They keep the place clean. The pricing is reasonable. They do offer to fix anything you don't like. The staff is friendly. The BAD: Everybody could use more education. Please stock more colors for the stylists to offer - not just light, medium, and dark. Please not so sloppy with the color, it's a bitch to get out of clothes! When a client says that they want a couple of inches taken off, by all means double check, just don't say, "you don't want to do that". Yes they do or they wouldn't have said it. Update the style books. While it is nice that the girl is thorough in her sweeping up, I don't appreciate getting my feet slammed by the broom every time she goes by. Fully stock each station. I doesn't inspire confidence when stylists have to ransack various stations to do their job. Spend the money to update the decor and to keep the education current. read more

I went to the Lemon Tree located in Riverhead, NY around 1:30PM today(7/20/2017). I was kept waiting about 2 minutes before being greeted at the front counter because the 2 women behind the counter were chatting about something and I felt ignored. Finally one of the women asked what I wanted & I responded that I needed a haircut. She directed me to the 5th chair on the right and was greeted by the stylist. I asked her to cut my hair short but I still wanted the same style that I had. She preceded to wet down my hair and cut it short, as I asked. She finished cutting my hair within 5 minutes said she was finished. I left the chair with a wet hair - She did not blow dry it. I Paid $17.00. I went home & blow dried my hair and then I noticed that the hair cut was chopped & uneven. Even the side burns were unevenly cut. Worst haircut I EVER HAD. Yes they do a professional haircut. However, make sure you express exactly what you expect and want done. I went in and we agreed that I just needed a trim, also I mentioned that I wanted it longer on the sides. In fifteen minutes I got a 60+ year old typical haircut. Not a trim, not longer on the sides and the back cut so short it resembles a mans haircut and the rest is very, very short. My fault as I should have emphasized exactly what I wanted. I will go again ( probably in several months when this grows ou)t, but will be a little more assertive. read more

I very rarely write reviews, but since I was so happy with the way my hair turned out I felt I needed to give credit where it was due. My stylist was Dakota. I went in for a root touch up and a haircut. I brought a picture of the cut I wanted. She talked me into getting some highlights added to break up the root color (as they always do) and, even though it wound up costing about $30. more, it was well worth it! She picked out the perfect base color and the highlights turned out the perfect color. Also, she made sure she didn't overlap onto already damaged hair. I am EXTREMELY FUSSY about my hair and was shocked that It turned out so perfect! She is confident and experienced. I highly recommend Dakota! read more

I'm giving this place a 3 star. Despite the fact my 1st time visit here wasn't the best. I believe every place deserves a 2nd chance. I let a friend of mine whom worked in a salon do my hair. Long story short, she fried it to no return. I tried everything to save it. I called for a last minute appointment they took me within an hour. I was nervous to find out who would be working with my hair. I ended up with Dakota! She's young but she knows what she's doing. I would give her a 5 star. She did an amazing job! Saved my hair the best she could! Awesome cut. She gets 2 thumbs up from me! If you want your hair done from someone who loves what they do and it's not just a job for them...
