Fantastic gelato. Lots of flavors and they are all equally delicious in their own right. Workers are super kind even when my Italian wasn't the best. 10/10 experience for first time getting gelato.

Stopped by for a gelato, and the ricotta with figs and caramel was intriguing! It was different and delicious, a bit heavy and rich but so memorable!

I stick to the script (choc & stash)

Delicious gelato in a dozen flavors. Young lady serving was very generous offering as many samples as we liked. Within walking distance to the Vatican this tiny establishment was packed with charm...colorful & clean. I decided on half pistachio half chocolate and per usual it was a winning combination. Lemongrass was worth splurging a few euros. Ciao, ~Christy

Sweet girl serving the ice cream! Very nice, especially bc we're tourists. The smallest size for ice cream were big portions, we couldn't even finish it! It's a good idea to share bc you get two flavors for only 2.50 euro!! They ask have wifi, which is always a plus when you're traveling.

We really liked this Gelateria. There are 2 locations which are very close to each other. The Pistachio gelato is awesome. I would recommend it to any pistachio ice cream or gelato fan.

Great place friendly staff with many awesome flavors. My wife got cookies n cream and pistachio gelato, not really into pistachio flavored anything but this stuff is delicious. It's very easy to share, the staff is very generous with the portions.

Three scoops: cheesecake, pistachio and one that I forgot. The cone was nicely crispy.

The best I had in Rome! We went there after a long and tired day in the Vatican Museum and were refreshed by the gelato in this nice shop. The ice cream had more textures (more creamy and crunchy) than the others we had in Rome, and it was the only one we had with crispy rather than soggy egg waffle cone. The pity was, we didn't have the chance to go there again! I would recommend the flavor of cheesecake and pistachio.

Two scoops for 3 euro. Right outside Vatican City. Very refreshing after exploring the area on a hot day. Would recommend any fruit flavor, we tried fragola (strawberry), lampone (raspberry), and mango (which is just mango) and all were delicious.

Best gelato I had in Rome. Hands down!!! Try the other ones and then try this one. The difference is clear. This alone is worth my entire visit. The pistachio is my favorite one.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

Tucked along the lively streets of Trastevere, this little spot delivers gelato with genuine craftsmanship and flavors that taste as authentic as the city around you. The first thing you notice is the freshness. Each flavor looks vibrant--not overly piled or artificially glossy--and you can tell everything is made with real ingredients. One spoonful confirms it: the gelato is creamy, smooth, and beautifully balanced. The fruit flavors burst with natural sweetness, especially the mango and strawberry, while the classics like pistachio, hazelnut, and chocolate showcase that rich, deep, true-to-ingredient taste that only well-made gelato can achieve. Their specialty flavors are equally impressive--unique without feeling gimmicky--and everything is served at the perfect temperature so the texture stays silky, not icy. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the cones have that fresh baked aroma that adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The staff is warm and welcoming, happy to offer suggestions, and patient even when you're debating between ten flavors that all look incredible. The atmosphere reflects Trastevere itself--relaxed, friendly, and full of character. Whether you're ending a meal, cooling off on a sunny Roman afternoon, or simply exploring one of the city's most spirited neighborhoods, GELATERIA alla SCALA is a sweet stop worth seeking out. A delicious reminder that some of Rome's best moments come in a cup--or a cone.

If you don't know what real gelato should look like check my photos. First it shouldn't be piled high into mountains. Secondly the colors should be natural. The banana and pistachio gelato in my photos are perfect representations. On to the tasting! My tour included one cone and I got two scoops of pistachio and licorice. We said our goodbyes to the tour and the gelato was so good I wanted more. We ended up getting an affogato and a few more scoops in a bowl the second time. This was very close to where Julius Caesar was assassinated so we walked over and checked it out. When done I couldn't resist and had to go back a third time as I really wanted to try the orange gelato. The owner laughed as he couldn't believe we were back again. The orange was so good! There was bits of orange skin and it tasted really fresh. When I'm back in Rome I will visit my new friend here at the Gelateria!
