The owner is so friendly, he even explained the dishes of the day in English for us. It should be noted that they change their menu everyday, and it consists of mostly vegetarian and vegan options. It's locally sourced ingredients, and the chef creates the dishes based on the season's vegetables. There's also various local organic cheeses you can buy. We had several types of dishes: the artichoke and carrot lasagne, the herb and spinach balls, the spinach quiche, and freshly squeezed juices with different vegetables and fruits. Tastevere's owners bring the food in fresh daily from their farm. They are very proud of the fact that all of the food is organic and home-grown. Their meat and cheese plate with mortadella, prosciutto, and pecorino cheeses with various types of honey was the highlight. I will definitely come back for an aperitivo or light meal here. The gentleman working the till noticed that I was pregnant and exhausted, and he slipped a packet of candied ginger into my shopping bag. I was surprised that a man would notice my pregnancy, surprised that he would feel sympathetic, surprised that he would know ginger helps with nausea, and surprised that he would offer such a gift. It was a generous and welcoming gesture of a kind you are far more likely to encounter in a small town than in frenetic, anonymous, and often anaesthetized Rome. The produce at La Capra Rampante is fresh, high quality, and in season. For a small store, it has a fairly large selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. A back room contains natural and organic shampoos and other hygiene and cleaning supplies. The organic dairy products are in the back of the store. There is a fairly large selection of cereals and biscuits, honey and jams, wine, fruit juices and teas. If you are staying in an apartment with a kitchen, check the refrigerated shelves that provide salads and fresh pasta. You will walk through the produce section as you enter the store, and this will be the last section you pass through on your way to the till. I appreciate such a layout because the first transit of the produce section allows me to collect the most important items on my list, and passing through on my way out means that any impulse purchases consist of fresh fruit. La Capra Rampant is the kind of grocery store that will support your resolution to eat healthier snacks and more fresh produce - it is well worth a visit.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.
