    Gelato!!!!!

A must try if you're in Trastevere. This cute gelato shop has amazing gelatos and flavors. I loved the zabaione (egg wind cream) flavor. It was delicious. Service is prompt. Be patient as the line can be long but it moves fast. Make sure you visit if you're in Rome.

Very delicious gelato! A good selection of vegan options--I had the chocolate fendente (dark chocolate) and banana. Reasonably priced at 3 euro for a small. Offered a cookie topping too, but I could not partake!

Gelateria is first, easy to miss! But once you are there, generous portions, friendly service, and a wide array of gelato flavors make it well worth the stay! Ordered: the cookies and dark chocolate, with fresh whip (comes with a cute little waffle piece!). The reason why I gave it a 3, was because I didn't feel like the flavors were that rich tasting or strong.... it was very light, which is good, but wanted a creamier taste.

After visiting many ice cream shops In Rome I came across this gem in Travestere. Family tradition going back three generations producing high quality ice cream made with quality milk and real fruit. A must see in Rome.

Average gelato in Trastevere, there are much better artisanal gelato places around the neighborhood. Food/Drink: We got the lemon and mango flavors. The lemon was a bit too acidic for our taste but it was still refreshing after a hot day in Rome. Price: Same price as other gelatos around 2.50 euro for a small cup with 2 flavors. Atmosphere: Small shop near the central street right before crossing the bridge. There is some seating inside but no air conditioning which made it hotter inside than the breeze that was outside.

One of our favorite gelato places! We got the stracciatella, pistachio and biscotti. They were all amazing and flavorful. We got a huge portion for getting the smallest size and we will definitely be coming back!!

My favorite GELATO PLACE EVER! My review is going to be short and sweet. You would be a fool not to try when in Italy. I honestly tried to have gelato every night for 2 weeks and when I was in Rome I only came here. You won't regret it! https://youtu.be/nG_mROH5zZ8

The gelato was alright. Nothing super special about how it tasted. They have variety (things that are not very common), which was nice to see. I had blackberry and white peach and lavender. Wouldn't buy those again.

3.5€ for very generous portions. Preferred chocolate hazelnut over tiramisu
    Diana N.

Chocolate hazelnut was better than tiramisu, but I think we just love chocolate and nuts! Chocolate more pronounced than hazelnut flavor, and definitely sweeter than the tiramisu. 3.5€ for a 2 scoop chocolate nut cone with cookie and whipped cream on top. Accepts credit card. I gave all the gelato places a 4*, but this place gets a 5* because he really hooked us up with big scoops! They hadn't replenished the dark chocolate yet when we ordered, but we'll definitely try that next time.

This came highly recommended from social media prior to my Europe trip to Rome. I was SO excited to find out it was right on my way to and from the hotel. My husband and I tried it and were very impressed. It is a VERY small shop, so if there is a line don't be scared. They do a good job moving thru people. They have such a large variety to choose from, its hard!! I went with the dark chocolate (cioccolato fondente) by itself based on Yelp reviews. My husband went with the rose. They were both so wonderful!! The pricing on the cups run 3€, 4€, and 5€. I would highly recommend stopping if you're passing by (I know there are so many places to choose from)!

    Jenelle C.

OMG! Hands down the best gelato I've ever tasted!! I got the tiramisu and my niece got stratchatella (not sure of spelling). We both enjoyed what we got a plan to go back as much as we can until we need to leave lol. I like how it's not overly sweet like the ones in Canada which makes sense as it's an Italian dessert. I plan to try more flavours!

Best Gelato in Rome! Tasty, friendly, and memorable. There were so many flavors to choose from and all were so good. Especially the service being just as great as the gelato. The guy that helped us spoke English and was very nice to talk to. If you are a chocolate lover, their dark chocolate gelato is so silky smooth and rich and just amazing. (Similar to chocolate pudding) The gelato as pictured was crema which was so simple yet still so good. Also, from previous late night gelato runs there, you can't go wrong with the pistachio or limone. Definitely put Gelateria del Viale as a destination when in Roma!

Mild was stracciatella which is available in every gelateria in Italy. The version here is perfectly fine ... But it doesn't take much to make a good stracciatella. The exploding taste buds flavor was mango with chocolate bits. * * * You can finish this review yourself. There are some surprisingly whiny reviews from American Yelpers about this place. They complain because very good Italian gelato does not have the creamy texture of American artisanal ice cream. In Boston or Philadelphia, creaminess is fundamental. No rich texture and you have failed. Italian gelato is a pure taste proposition. Creamy or not creamy doesn't matter so long as your mouth explodes when you eat the stuff. Don't be an Ugly American and insist that Italian ice cream be just like the Haagen Dazs you get at home.

No signs, no crowd, just a tiny counter and a couple of flavors that look like they were made by someone's Italian grandma who's been perfecting the recipe since the Roman Empire fell. I went rogue with caramel and pistachio, and let me tell you, this was gelato that whispered, not screamed. Creamy, subtle, and suspiciously low on sugar, like it trusted you to taste actual ingredients instead of just corn syrup. The pistachio didn't taste like a candle, and the caramel didn't slap you with sweetness. It was chill. 10/10 would stumble upon again while pretending not to need Google Maps.

Originally a carpenter and ski instructor, Rohregger followed his partner to Rome to establish his eponymous gelateria. While the most adventurous flavors have gradually been toned down, Gunther still promises the freshest seasonal ingredients in every scoop. I visited the shop just across the Tiber from Trastevere. Bright lights and electronic dance music poured from the storefront into the evening alleyway. The interior feels clean and modern. The whitewashed walls are decorated with Gunther-specific branding. The gelato display cuts diagonally through the room. A large mirror and minimal barstool seating are pressed into the corner. Generally, the flavors were sophisticated but traditional (although the fragrant Mugo Pine was an ambitious option), and the gelato was extra creamy but not overly sweet. The Morogoro Extra Chocolate was the gelato incarnation of the darkest chocolate imaginable, while the Ricotta Stregata was a masterclass in creamy simplicity. The Cafe Espresso leaned heavily into the espresso with crunchy espresso beans mixed in, while the deeply flavorful Pistachio was in need of chopped bits. The complementary waffle chip and wafer straw were a nice bit of texture, if not forgettable. Service was friendly; servers scooped countless samples without batting an eye. A 4-scoop Grander will set you back $7 for a total volume slightly larger than the size of your fist. While the gelato is certainly worth waiting for over the countless nondescript Roman gelaterias, Gunther doesn't quite measure up to the best-of-the-best.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside.
