My family became members of SCC when I was 6. People can tease me all they want about my hoity-toity upbringing, but I can't deny that the country club played a huge part in my childhood. Tennis lessons, pool activities, Sunday brunches, 4th of July fireworks, wedding receptions, bar mitzvahs. All of it was great fun! Growing up, I always dreamed of having a house as grand as SCC's clubhouse. I am still in awe of its classic design to this day. The pool is bustling every summer with children activities and the tennis courts are well-maintained. I'm not a golfer but according to my parents, SCC is one of the top 3 courses in Toledo. The ballroom is home of Sunday brunch and private receptions, the mixed grill on the lower level is for casual dining, and the 19th Hole is bar/lounge reserved for golfers only. All in all, the grounds are beautiful (I'll upload pictures on my next visit), and the club remains as classy as it was 20 years ago. If you are in the market for a membership, SCC is the best club in the area.

I wouldn't say Stone Oak needs to be modern but the light fixtures seemed like they hadn't been touched in ages which seems a little odd for what is supposed to be a more upscale place. The mains we had to choose from ahead of time were chicken marsala, a vegetarian risotto or filet and sea bass. Well duh. The filet was fantastic, perfect medium rare with good char on the outside. The sea bass was melt in your mouth with a delicious beurre blanc. People who went marsala seemed sad upon viewing the combo but the vegetarian raved about hers. Dessert was a sundae bar. Just vanilla ice cream. Lots of fun toppings but more ice cream flavors would have made it epic. Coffee was served and was happy, especially after a few vodka and sodas with a splash of cran. The greens staff and crew are hard working and know how to maintain a challenging course. The dining room has a nice balance of elegance and homeless. I never had a bad meal there. Prices are reasonable. The tennis courts and swimming pool I can't comment on because I never used them The number one positive about the Barton Hills CC is the intrinsic location. Barton Hills is actually hilly. It's not a flaky developer's name. My only regret is that I can't afford to join, but I had many of the best times of my life there. Join if you can afford it. It's a gem.

Highland was a great track when it opened in 1925 but it has been enhanced as a golf facility since the LPGA came in 1989. What pro golf left was a first rate course and practice facilities. After the complete bunker and hole redesign 4 years ago the Ross/Hills inspired routing is playable and modern.
