The good: beautiful office, very professional appearance of office and staff, Lisa (front desk) is wonderful -- very courteous and helpful, many toys for children to play with, lots of praise from staff to help children feel comfortable The bad: It seems some of the staff don't really know how to talk to different age levels of children. Kelsey talked to my 2.5 yr old like he was a much older child and used big words that he probably didn't have a clue what she was talking about. Just give a brief description about what you're going to do and then do it -- no need to talk talk talk about it because very young children only have so much time that they can sit still and cooperate. After that, you will get nothing done when they've had enough. Dr. Mauney is OK -- not stellar but not particularly unkind either but he really doesn't talk much. He acts a bit too macho to be dealing with children and just lets his hygienists take care of all the niceties. We also saw a regular dentist before this specialist appointment because he said my child had 8 possible cavities. Dr. Mauney is saying he only has 3 and he's basing it solely on x-rays, which didn't even really go so smoothly so I'm afraid they're not going to be fixing all of my child's teeth on our next appointment. It makes me want to get another opinion as I don't trust theirs. The ugly: During x-rays, Kelsey, our hygienist, was nice enough at first. Several times though, she made my 2.5 yr old gag. She let up, removed the bite plates and gave him a moment to recover. Finally, after 10 minutes of not being able to get it the way she needed it done, she put it back in his mouth, he gagged again, she only pushed it even further into his mouth. You could just see the fear in his eyes after he'd been calm. I had to say to her twice, "Take that out of his mouth" before she did it. He was just sobbing by that point and begging to go home. They still wanted to go ahead and try and fill 3 of his teeth at this same visit. Why can they not seem to understand that young children only have so much time they can hold it together before they just can't anymore? I don't mind breaking up the appointments into more just to make sure my child has good experiences. I do not need a child who is pushed to his breaking point and afraid of dentists. read more

Whenever I walk in, everyone is so welcoming and helpful. This place is spotless, and the interior/natural lighting is on point, which makes it more comfortable for my sensitive eyes (if that's something you worry about). Everything and everyone was professional. Dr.Clifton has the kindest warming presence, and Dr. Mauney leads his employees with a demeanor of grace and generosity while executing his job with the utmost precision. I'm glad of the work I had done with Dr. Hershey, but I wish I got my braces here instead. This place has such a pleasant atmosphere! read more

these folks are money-grubbing and mean. The woman doing (unnecessary) x-rays on my daughter was bossy and irritated despite the fact that my daughter is 4 years old, super compliant and trying her hardest to follow instructions. I stopped the process, got my daughter, paid and left and the whole place got even nastier and up in arms - instead of trying to understand how they'd failed. Our experience with Dr. Mauney has always been excellent and this weekend it was taken to another level! Our three year old son fell and knocked his front tooth loose. Dr. Mauney met us at the office 15 minutes later, off hours. Eri joined him to assist and she was incredible as well. They were able to make our son (and us!) feel more at ease and extract the loose tooth as comfortably as possible. I was concerned his follow up visit would lead to a lot of anxiety. Thanks to their welcoming, friendly, comfortable and fun environment he said he had "fun" coming back to see Dr. Mauney and Eri for his follow up. Absolutely AMAZING!!!!! Dr. Clifton makes dreams come true. I am 48 years of age and have always been unhappy with my smile and teeth. Both my kids (20 and 15) have had Dr. Mauney as their dentist since they were 3 years of age. Both have had braces and both have always been happy with the way they were taken care of. Since Dr. Clifton was also seeing adults, I decided it was time I took care of my teeth. Not only did she explain each step of the process, she did it will such an accommodating manner. My two children think it's fun to come to their dentist office. First of all, the front desk staff are very efficient and helpful. We didn't wait at all and they have never ran behind schedule. If you happen to wait a little, you can enjoy coffee and wifi while the kids play in the playhouse or read children's books. Then the hygienist always smiles and makes my kids feel at ease. My son anticipates playing with the wall games in the inner office. My daughter likes how they explain the process to her. Lastly, the green postcard at the end gives us helpful reminders on where to focus the daily tooth brushing. My kids also get positive reinforcement with the small prizes at the end of the appointment. I highly recommend Clifton and Mauney Dentistry. read more

I've been a patient at Clifton & Mauney's for almost 16 years of my life. Never have a met a more welcoming and assistive staff in any workplace. All the dental hygienists and orthodontists are all friendly, highly professional, and all want to help you get to where you want to your desired result with your/your child's teeth. I don't usually write online reviews but feel compelled to write this, after reading two fairly negative reviews of this pediatric dental practice. Our two children have received dental and orthodontic care at this practice for many years. Our 25 year old saw Drs. Clifton and Mauney from the age of 8 until college. Our 18 year old started at age 2 or 3 and is still a patient. Each has had regular, routine dental care as well as braces. Each saw Dr. Clifton sometimes and Dr. Mauney sometimes. Through the years we have probably met every hygienist/assistant and of course the front desk staff. To a person, they have all been friendly, professional, warm, and caring. The physical space is open, bright, and cheerful. The dental outcomes have been wonderful with no complications. I do not feel that the dentists suggested unnecessary procedures and they did refer when needed (e.g., extraction of wisdom teeth). For us, there are two bottom lines: (1) our kids have healthy teeth and gums, and (2) our kids have no fear of dentists. I have recommended this practice to many friends and will continue to do so. read more
