It's a barber shop. Sure enough, they are just like the old days where they will hot cream, shave with a straight razor blade and steam your face if that's your kind of thing? Maybe for a wedding, an anniversary dinner or just a hot date with tour significant other. The folks that work here are super nice and they will talk you ears off if you want a conversation like they are your bartender. If you're aren't so talkative, then just tell them. Bob is by far one of the worst barbers I've ever experienced in my life. I called in asking if they were taking walk ins at 3:30 they close at 6pm. They said sure come on in. I asked if they can do a low skin fade and a buzz cut on top. He said sure over the phone. I sit down in the chair and he proceeds to just buzz everything down to a 2. I asked him to do the low fade on the sides. He says sure I'll try. He just goes straight to a 0 and creates a huge line all around my head. Meanwhile the whole time he's shaking because he is so elderly he's just bouncing the buzzer off my dome, and cutting air half the time. After he destroyed my hair, he said alright how's that... I'm like Bob this is by far the worst haircut I've ever had we must have different definitions of what a fade is... I said look just take it all down make me bald. He buzzed it all around with no guard. I asked him if he was going to make me bald as in shaved bald. He said look man you're asking a lot, you didn't have an appointment, and I've given you two haircuts in a sit, you should've asked for this initially. I said Bob I asked for a low skin fade with a buzz on top. When you mess up someone's hair you think you ought to fix it and not argue about it. Over the top. I was incredibly impressed by the service and attention to detail within the barber shop. From the moment ai walked in, I was greeted with a smile and asked if I had an appointment and if not I would be connected with a barber as soon as one was available. I did in fact have an appointment with Garret who was a gentleman with attention to detail and strived to ensure I was pleased with my cut and shave. He took his time and asked questions in effort to gain a solid idea for my style and preferences. I would highly recommend. The shop itself is unique and unlike others I have frequented. Took my kids their for a quick cut before school started. The place just isn't that nice. There weren't any customers. My 8 year old got a crooked haircut. I had to request it to be fixed. It still is not quite right. Thank goodness he has great hair genes. My 3 year old got an okay haircut, but definitely below average and definitely not worth 17.98. Guys, you are charging little kids 17.98 for crooked haircuts and borderline sucky haircuts. My brother had a term for barbers like this....Balloon poppers. We won't be back. read more

I have had the great pleasure of getting my hair cut at Lennartz Olde Time Barber Shop for close to two years now and I can not speak highly enough of this establishment. Before coming to Lennartz, I routinely got my hair cut at chains like Great Clips, but I was never satisfied with the end result and began my search to find a real barbershop to get a "real" haircut in the Dayton area. It was then that I first started going to Lennartz and it's safe to say I have no plans of stopping. My barber's name is Marion King and he is the epitome of what it means to be a true professional and is an excellent barber. From the initial consultation upon my first visit, to him going out of his way to acquire products I request, to the level of perfection he strives for both himself and the haircuts he gives, you will NOT be disappointed. Every haircut I've had has been perfection, and this is coming from someone that takes their image seriously. I travel frequently for work and time and time again no matter where I am in the world, I receive many compliments regarding my hair and I attribute this to Marion's skill and knowledge. I highly suggest you go with Marion, although I know all the barbers here are true professionals. I highly recommend Lennartz to anyone that needs to look their best. Wes cut my hair and when I got home I noticed long tufts of hair had been left untouched, and the fade was terrible. When it was time to pay he tried to charge me the full $20 despite never giving me the whole package (shampoo, wet shave, massage etc.). All I received was a dry cut with clippers! When I challenged him he let me pay $15 instead. That evening I went to their other location (see my other review) and Marion rectified everything free of charge. This location charges $5 more than their northern counterpart, yet tries to screw you on what you actually receive. Give the whole package as advertised (the price/services list was even in front of me the whole time I was in the chair!) or drop your price. Skip this location and go see Marion - a proper barber who cares about his craft. read more

I'm a sucker for a coupon. A couple months ago when this place opened, I found a coupon for Lennartz Old Time Barber Shop on my front lawn. I think it was attached to my mailbox with a rubber band, but blew off on a windy day. I had to wait a couple of months to use this coupon, because I already had a couple of coupons for a less expensive cut at Great Clips. The Lennartz coupon offered a $19.98 haircut for $9.99. That sounded like a fair deal. Last week, I had an opportunity to try out Lennartz. I walked in around 7pm on a weeknight without an appointment. The place appeared empty. I was greeted by Rene, but was later led to believe that there was at least one more employee onsite. I didn't see anyone else, probably because each cutting station was a little "booth" or corral which appeared to be constructed from composite wood fence material like you'd find at Lowes or Home Depot. This made it look more like a department store fitting room than a barber shop. I sat in the waiting area surrounded by the corrals while Rene did something (prepared her station I assumed). About a minute later, she called to me. I had to locate her in the maze of corrals by the sound of her voice. I walked in to find the floor and the arms of her old barber chair wet. Rene was pleasant and made good conversation. After asking me what kind of cut I wanted (a #3 trim), she went to work. She appeared to know what she was doing. She took her time, but didn't dawdle. I got the impression that she was paying close attention to detail. The entire experience probably took about 15-20 minutes. Rene cut my hair with standard electric clippers, but after applying some shave cream or gel, she used a straight razor to trim my neck, around my ears, and at my temples. My temples??!?! No one has ever shaved this area on my head. I didn't even know it needed to be shaved. I've had my eyebrows trimmed, but never had my temples shaved. I don't have much hair to begin with, so I tend to want to keep what little I have. I've gotten haircuts at many different places from the chain cutters like Great Clips and Borics to traditional local barbers and even one who used a straight razor to trim my sideburns, This experience was very unique. When she was done cutting and trimming, Rene walked me over to the sink and had me put my head over it face first for a shampoo wash while water ran down my face. Fortunately, I was wearing an old sweatshirt and Rene was quick with the towel. Finally, when all was done, Rene gave me very brief neck massage with an older style hand massager. All in all it was an okay experience, but was it worth the $19.98 list price (plus tip)? Personally, I think you get better service at Big League Haircuts. Each station there has a TV. (I'm a big fan of watching TV while getting your hair cut even though I can't see much after I remove my glasses for the cut and I'm not really into watching sports.) Additionally, Big League is cheaper than $19.98, they wash your hair while reclined in a big sink made for washing hair, and they give you a much longer massage. The final decision of if I would return is what my family thought of my cut and how it looked to me in the mirror. Yes, I was given the opportunity to check my hair before leaving the shop, but it wasn't until I got home in front of my large bathroom mirror in good lighting, that I could see that the hair on the left side of my head was noticeably shorter that the hair on the right side. The shaved area at my temples made me look balder than I usually do. Furthermore, there were stray hairs that didn't match or were missed altogether. It was so noticeable that I grabbed a pair of scissors and fixed it myself. So, is this how they did it in the "olde days"? It seems to me that the olde time barbers depicted in movies and on TV had a large open room where all the barbers conversed with each other and patrons while the customers read the newspaper and/or conversed back. Also, I've never seen those shops giving a shampoo wash or massage. The bottom line for me? I will stick to Great Clips when I have a coupon and Big League when I do not. Sorry, Lennartz, I was really hoping that you would become a fixture in our upscale neighborhood shopping center, but I can't see that happening based upon my personal experience. read more

Walked in to fighting amongst owner/manager and two barbers. Should've been my first clue to turn around and walk out the door but I really needed a cut. Manager (I think his name was Bob) asked either of them if they had any time before their next appointments (as I was a walk in); they both said no but he turned to one of them, Wes, and said "Wes, you can take him." I didn't want to step on any toes so I suggested to Wes that I come back some other time but he said "No, we're good." Explained what I want and he asked a bunch of questions like "what do you do with the bangs" and "how do you wear it?" Questions that definitely should've clued him in more on what I wanted. The cut itself was incredibly jerky and very painful. I felt like I was being treated like an annoying piece of meat. To be quite honest it was akin to physical abuse. At the end, he showed me the cut and I asked a question about the top, which was shorter than I had intended. He got offended and said "you got exactly what you asked for" and turned away. I then proceeded to tell him that I wasn't trying to tick him off, just to figure out the mistake I made. I also mentioned that I had noticed they were fighting when I walked in and that I should have known better. At some point during this exchange, the manager (Bob again) walked in, looked at me and the barber (presumably, on alarm at the sounds of discontent) and walked out, never to be seen again. My barber warmed up a little bit and then admitted that if they hadn't been fighting when I had walked in, he probably would have caught on to what I really wanted during pre-cut counseling. To me, this is basically an admission of "I was pissed off at my boss so I took it out on the client." No apologies were made for the aggressive cutting. This was an altogether horrific experience. In my opinion, the manager is as much at fault as the barber. Will never go back and urge others to not make the same mistake of walking through the door. read more

I had the worst haircut of my life at this place the week of June 21,2016. My Barber was Les and my haircut was a total mess. I was not given any opportunity to review prior to him saying we are done. My hair was all greased down and although i knew it was bad, I did not realize how bad until it was washed. I had to go to a professional stylist to get it fixed. She concurred it was a horrible job and stated I was not the first to seek remedy from Lennartz at her shop. This place is a joke, spoke with the owner and he is an idiot. So much for wanting a good haircut for my upcoming Fairmont HS reunion. Beware and go elsewhere. Horrible! Less than 1 star. Tom was awful, messed my neck up terribly. Trimmed one side 2 inches higher than the other. I asked him to fix it twice. I had stray hairs all over and it looked like indentations in my head because it was so uneven. I had to go somewhere else to get it fixed. I didn't even bother getting a haircut when I read the prices. $29+ for a high and tight haircut. For someone that has to get a haircut every week I can't afford that. You would think that this place would at least be comparable to other places in the Dayton area. I've gotten my haircut and numerous places and not one place was over $20 for a high and tight.
