I had my first time coming to get my hair cut here. I had Christine as my hairdresser. She was great! She listened to what I wanted and gave me a cute stylish cut. I also got a complimentary 2 minute facial. It was so nice and relaxing. I have never heard of any other salons that do that. It was so nice. This place is really a treat to come to. The place is really big. They have different floors depending on what your getting done. I definitely will be back again to get my hair cut again but I may have to come back sooner for a massage! read more

This is a beautiful salon but I can't even review what it's like to get a service here because the staff has made the new client process impossible. I lived in Chicago for nearly two decades and have been to high-end salons many times, none of them have been so self-interested and patronizing as the experience has been at Square Salon Centerville. First, I called several months ago to try to book with a senior stylist. I had just moved and was way behind on a haircut and color and needed something done ASAP. I was told I'd have to come in for a consultation first and that it might be months before I could get into get my hair done. I asked if it was possible to bypass this step, was told no. I told them I guess I'd have to go elsewhere and they didn't seem to care about losing the business. I still wanted to try so I called for a consultation when I had more time. To be honest, my hair color needs are pretty simple and I've only recently started dying my hair to cover grays. I brought a picture of my natural color (which is the closest thing to communicate what my ideal color would be.) Since the last color I had was darker, it was explained to me that it would be a huge process to go lighter again, so I was quoted a starting price of $450. The whole consultation process was such a frustration because as a person who isn't super experienced I don't even know what to ask for. Rather than being guided toward a reasonable process or something else that would work and look good, I felt the conversation steered heavily toward an expensive and (in my opinion) unnecessary process to achieve what I didn't know I was even asking for. The stylist was nice, so no issues there, but mentioned that she books really far out and rarely gets new clients. She mentioned that she wouldn't be upset if I picked a different stylist. I ended up making an appointment for a workday afternoon but now have to cancel because I'm not able to take the time off work due to a project. All in all, I'm not sure I've ever encountered a business that made me feel so undervalued as a customer. My fiancé, who has been completely flummoxed watching me try to make an appointment here, summed it up best: "I don't know why you want to go there, they clearly care more about themselves than they do about their customers." I'm done giving this place a shot because it turned something that is supposed to make you feel good into a burden and a frustration. read more

From day one when the bride and I went in just to ask questions, leading up until the wedding day this team was SO ACCOMMODATING! Salon One in Centerville completely messed my son's hair up. We have gone to this salon for years, his normal hairdresser is on vacation so we went with someone she recommended especially since he has really dense hair and it can be difficult to cut. The person that was supposed to cut his hair was late so they asked him if it was okay for this girl to cut his hair. This lady was a nightmare and new at the Salon. it was clear to my son she didn't know what she was doing because another hairdresser had to come up and help her, explaining that he had dense hair, where she went wrong and how to fix what she had done. It clearly was not fixed! He literally looks like he has a ducks tail in the back of his head. They charged him $40 for a horrible haircut, they never showed him the back of it with the mirror and I know why...This is absolutely unacceptable. When I called they actually had enough nerve to say well he said it was okay, not sorry about his hair being fkd up or for hiring people who do not know what they are doing, then offered to have him come back in...NO He will not come back in and have them mess his hair up even more. read more

I used to go to Square One to have my hair done, and knew they did nails. So I scheduled an appointment for 11:00 am for a pedicure. When I made the appointment I was told to wait in my car and I would receive a text when they were ready for me. I asked if I needed to let them know I was there since they couldn't physically see me & was told no. I arrived 10 minutes early and dutifully sat in my car. At 11:00 I turned to my texts and waited. And waited. 11:05, 11:08, 11:10, no text/call. Now I do appreciate how things have changed due to Covid. I am in the service field myself. But if you are going to be over 5 minutes late, you should notify the client. At 15 after, I called and, without asking my name, was told my tech was running behind. At 18 after I called again and was told they had called, probably while I was talking to them, and had left a message. But no text. The saving grace was that the nail technician was great. Worth the wait, kind of. I definitely will book with her again. The prices are terrific. However, it would still have been nice to have gotten a call to say they were running late. Since I was sitting in my car it felt as though I had been forgotten. read more

I had a great experience at Square One in Centerville. There is dedicated parking right behind the shop for clients. My hairstylist was Taylor and she was so great! She did a wonderful job of giving me the hair cut and style that I wanted and I felt like she took her time. She was so kind and fun to talk to. Each stylist has a different rate and times they work, so it is helpful to schedule to come in when convenient for you. Can't wait to come back again soon! read more

I saw Karessa for a cut and color. She did better than what I could've asked for and I'm obsessed with my new hairstyle! She's careful and won't stop until you're completely satisfied with your look, book with her !! From start to finish the salon is top notch in service. They know how to create an experience and it's definitely the small details & quality staff that makes you feel relaxed and pampered! I booked an appointment a month before my birthday/vacation to treat myself to something nice for my birthday. I told the receptionist "ombré & cut" but when I arrived the stylist told me "you were booked for color so I won't have time to do your cut." Kind of annoying but no big deal. I tell her in great detail exactly what I want. I show her several pictures. We seem to be on the same page. She tells me I'll need to be charged for 3 different colors. I'm confused but okay...this is my treat to myself, I'm willing to shell out the extra money to get what I want. She brings in an assistant to help her speed up the process. (Because I was booked incorrectly for color and not ombré) The student/assistant is applying color to the bottom half of my hair and the stylist I booked is applying color to the top. I later realize the student/assistant is only applying color and no ombré will be done to the bottom half of my head. Hours later while I'm processing she tells me the "good news"...her next client cancelled so she can cut my hair. I only realized later why knowing the cut the client wants prior to placing the color is pretty important. I told her "just a trim" but somehow it was easily 3-4 inches. There is so much more about this service that was a nightmare but honestly the pictures speak for themselves. I paid over $200 to make my hair look the worst it's ever been. I sent the salon pictures and asked for a refund. They told me I needed to come back to the salon so they could "learn what they did wrong". I told them that wasn't an option because I was leaving for vacation and frankly it's not my job to teach them...that's what they went to school for. Her dip manicure was even and the perfect thickness that it looks like they're my actual nails! If you're looking for dip, this should be your first and only stop. My daughter went in a normal blonde with brown roots and shinny hair. She came out a female Draco Malfoy, except her hair is much more damaged now than his. She saw Kelly at Centerville. She took a pic, which had several shades blended and came out looking like she had put a yellow/white wig on that was made of cotton balls. You could see breakage and her style that was done was not even able to be seen since it was all one very bright yellow/white. To say it was shocking is an understatement. That is not even the bad part. Mistakes happen. This was a big one and will take a very long time to recover from in terms of the damage, but it happens. We have all had a color go awry. What we all have not had, is when we go back to the salon to ask for a correction, to be told, after a consult, that it looked like what my daughter asked for and that some hair takes platinum color more harshly than others. When I questioned all of this, i was finally told they had products my daughter could use and she should avoid all heat on her hair for at least a month. While deep conditioning and that they could also deep condition it but it would take several months of treatments. Oh! or they could cut it short. Presumably to mitigate the impending breakage that was going to occur. When I asked if this would be comped, I was told it would be discounted. At the end of the entire thing, I was told a Manager and Owner would call me the following day. I canceled my upcoming appointment, and drove straight to Salon Dimitri where Abbie assisted us by suggesting the products she thought would help to lesson the damage and told me to text her the following day so she could see a pic and determine if she needed to do more in the salon. Suffice it to say, my family of four who have gone to Square One for years, will no longer be a customer. No apology, acknowledgement that something clearly went awry and very little compassion for my 18 year old daughter who has to live with this, without even being able to dry and style her hair for who knows how long. A bad color can be forgiven, bad customer service cannot. I would skip this salon and try Salon Dimitri. Ask for Abbie. You won't regret it. PS. No pic because no one should have a photo of this out there, but Draco is close. His is much healthier but the color and brittle look are similar. The color is almost exact when you look at the ones that are platinum/yellow without dimension. Not a good luck. Ever. read more

Not a great place to get a peaceful, relaxing massage. Unfortunately this place is right on a very busy intersection, and you can hear every car and truck drive by. Massage therapist was just ok. Didn't have strength to give a good, deep massage even though that is what I asked for. Very underwhelming experience, sadly. Likely will not be going back. read more

This is my emergency hair salon. Meaning, I have a regular salon I visit in Cincinnati and have a friend cut my hair but she is incredible and sometimes I can't wait to get on her book. In cases like that I go here. It's a great location in an old renovated house on main in Centerville. It's a full service salon with a spa upstairs. They even accommodate walk ins. I have had several different stylist here Nd all of them are very well trained and professional. I am never disappointed with my visits here. read more

I had a massage with Kay. She is fantastic - best massage I've ever gotten! She listened to me prior to starting, focused on my problem areas and applied healing and relaxation techniques. If I lived in Dayton I would be regularly visiting Kay. For now I'll see her when I'm in town. Salon itself looked nice. Staff was friendly. Spa area was nice. It's a beautiful salon, the only reason I am giving it three stars is because 1) It is very busy and noisy, not as relaxing an atmosphere as I prefer 2) The Stylists are generally working on another client while doing your hair, thus taking a bit longer than it should. I wanted to love you Square One and for a brief moment I really did! My hairdresser of many years at another salon hit a bad patch in her personal life, got distracted and unfocused, and after years of wonderful cuts, the last several could be summed up as a bad "The Rachel" cut. As someone who has learned her thick, wavy hair needs its long layers this was quite a bad hair time - and it took a LONG time and a lot of hair loss to reverse this look. I finally decided to go to Square One late last year to find a fix and new stylist. Jennifer did a fabulous job. Unfortunately, she then went on maternity leave and so I had to find another stylist in the interim. Tonight, the one I selected gave me..."The Rachel". I agreed to have 1/2 to 1" trimmed off my hair only to go home to style it in my normal curly fashion to realize I lost 2-3" from the top layer and now had a very thinned out bottom layer and very short, heavy top layer. I was specific that I keep my hair in long layers that are always curled. Stylists-when you have a new client always err on the side of caution and cut less not more. I can't glue my hair back on when you go rogue. read more

BUYER BEWARE Typical bait and switch. The salon is nice and the people are friendly, but make sure to ask about how much the person they assign you charges for a cut. I normally get men's haircuts at Square One for ~$25 (reasonable), but I recently went in and was charged a whopping $39+tip for a men's cut. The studio's explanation for the price hike was because the stylist was considered "elite". I just called and showed up for a men's cut - certainly did not ask for the most expensive men's cut in Ohio. I got no sympathy from the woman handling payments. Left feeling like I'd been shaken down. read more

Love, love, love the massages here! The only drawbacks are having to schedule 2 months in advance for an appointment (- 0.5 star) and the street NOISE (sirens, motorcycles, etc). that makes for less than a relaxing experience. My hair still looks great but I am going out to dinner at a nice place in Columbus tomorrow for a special occasion so yesterday, I made a last minute decision to get my hair trimmed. Lacey, the stylist I had last time does not work on Fridays so Serene had an opening. She started with a scalp massage which felt amazing and got I another one during the shampoo and conditioning.
