I'm not sure what's different these days with Lenny's on Cooper, but their quality of food and preparation has improved significantly!! I must admit up until about 6 months or so ago I always felt worried my sandwich would be sloppily done or worse. But in recent times it's been a great experience and I've enjoyed my sandwichs with much more confidence. I went to Lenny's on 12 S Cooper Street. I placed my order. There were people already waiting who had orderd. The guy behind the counter was the only one at the register & he was working so hard running around trying to get orders ready by himself. I felt bad for him as he really needed someone helping him as people kept coming in with orders. He stayed calm & got everything done pretty fast & efficiently. I forgot to add this store is in Memphis Tn. I just wanted to put a review, because that worker needs a raise & some praise. I didn't get his name, but this was around 5:00 on a Thursday April 4th. I'm so sorry to leave this kind of review! The local Midtown Lennys sub shop owner and management has decided to rely solely on the good name of Lenny's. I was rather hopeful that because of Covid that the Lenny's Sub Shop on Madison - midtown Memphis was having a bad day. Or a bad year? ! But after multiple visits - yes, I prefer to support local black owned business' , - they have not maintained the consistency of their menu items. They are sandwiches do not resemble the product available at any other locations and for that I am truly sorry . I want to go back! I want to support them but after many returns they just don't seem to care that location. The sandwich loaves are not properly proofed so they bake un-naturally smallish, the ingredients are minimal and the taste is just sub par to other locations. Great location! Poor execution. Look, I can't do this... I can't ask you to go to other locations because I want this place to thrive! So go to Lenny's subs on Madison but let them know you are not OK with a subpar product. If we have to get corporate management to step in and re-train, change management, or what ever it takes ... support your local restaurants and vendors! PLEASE~ read more

Seriously, how difficult is it to ensure that your doofus employees wear masks on their faces while preparing food in an open restaurant/food prep area? I haven't been here once in the past year that at least one employee didn't have their mask pulled down well below their nose. But today was the first time I walked in wearing a mask and was greeted by an employee wearing absolutely no face covering whatsoever. Not over their nose, not over their mouth, not even over their chin. Nothing. I went to Lenny's 8-26-19 and placed an order to go. When I got home I realized the sandwich was not made as requested. I called and was on hold for 15 minutes. I hung up. What a bunch of losers. I even asked about the two items that I wanted added to make sure they made the sandwich as requested. The guy assured me it was right. Well, it wasn't right and those nitwits left me on hold way too long. I'm going to go there tomorrow and deal with it. Lenny's gets a nostalgia vote from me. In high school there was a place across the street called "Hero's Submarine Sandwich Shop" on the corner of Addison and Western in Chicago. I recall the sandwiches were pretty lousy! The bread sat out on the counter all day, for who knows how many days?! By the time it was part of your sandwich you would almost break a tooth on the rock hard crust. But then the dressing was applied. There was something about that Italian dressing, if you let it sit long enough it would work its way through the bread, saturating it with rich flavor and more importantly softening the hardest material on the planet. That Italian dressing, Lenny's has it. Though Lenny's starts out with soft bread so there's no delay in lunch. The overall flavor of a Lenny's takes me back. I am new to Lenny's so have not gotten very far through the menu. Only an Italian sub and a cheese-steak in my resume to date. Both were very good. Being from Texas I am use to all of the chain sub places. My friends and I were in town for a film festival and wanted to pick something that is not BBQ. With this being close to the movie theater we came here. The choice of sandwiches is great and what I really like is they have different sizes unlike most places which only have two. Lenny's is a really mixed bag for me. The food is great -- these are the best subs I've ever had, hands down. My favorite is the deluxe club, with ham, roast beef, bacon, lots of veggies...yum. The generous portions of freshly sliced meat really makes a difference -- no Subway cold cuts sitting around all day. And the large subs are so big, my boyfriend and I can split one, which is handy. That being said...the service at this location is atrocious. It is typical Midtown, "I could care less" times a thousand. We recently came here on a Saturday night, about 7pm, the only customers in the whole place, and it must have taken us at least 15 minutes to get our sandwich. After someone took our order, I looked around and wondered if anyone was actually making the sandwich -- there was someone portioning out hot sauce, someone standing at the register, and someone in the back, but no one was actually making the one sandwich we had ordered. We eventually got our sandwich, and it was fantastic, but I would hesitate to recomend this place for lunch, as I can't imagine how long the wait must be when there's actually customers. read more

If I were to judge just on the food I would give it five stars in general. I have always liked Lenny's. I even have another review about it. But this review is about this specific location. And yes, I'm about to be petty. I used to work at a Lenny's so I know the menu (except for the new stuff). I hate when people that work at a specific establishment try and rush you to complete an order....which is exactly what this person did. I know you know the menu but you have to treat every person like they have been there for the first time (except if they are a regular) and learn to be patient. The person that helped me was making unnecessary comments and it really irritated me. Comments like "this gon delay your order" because I ordered one hot and one cold sandwich, as if not ordering the hot sandwich was going to get me out of there quicker. Or because maybe he was the only one in there at the time so he had to do everything (which I noticed, reading the other reviews, staffing has become a problem). So I said "Would you prefer me not to give more money?" As he is taking my order I think he could tell I was annoyed, which probably made him annoyed. My mom ordered a salad and she wanted to look at the toppings. As I was thinking of the toppings I wanted he says "I told you they are listed right here." I told him "I know what you have, I just don't know what I want on it!" Damn, give me a chance to think! Stop rushing me! Then as he is ringing me up he offers me no drink, no chips....no nothing. And when he finished he stood near the back door, still in plain sight, making a personal phone call. And to top it all off, the cook made the order wrong. I hope that employee sees this. He needs to learn how to have more customer service, stop rushing people, talk & act more professional. And to the owner, retrain those people. Sorry, I have been in customer service for over ten years (a supervisor for 5 of those years). I know what people expect and that was unacceptable. He was telling the other guy my order but he was wrong, so I asked him what he had and when I told him my correct order. He seemed like he didn't care and didn't change anything. This was the first Lenny's I tried when I moved to Memphis and it is still my standby. It was recently remodeled and looks much nicer than it did before. Most Memphians will want to avoid it at lunch, because the Midtown crowds loves to eat here and parking can be a hassle. But, if you were like me and had never been to Lenny's, then listen up. Its a great sandwich shop that slices the meat fresh right in front of you and there sandwich menu is simple and to the point. I typically go for the deluxe club combo. You can get your sandwich in all kinds of sizes and types of bread. They have kaiser rolls, which are nice if you want a smaller meal. I typically go for the 5 inch with chips or on a hungry day the 7.5. Their in-house brand of chips are fantastic. The baked BBQ and sour cream are my choices. They also make a good philly. But, if you are looking for something different try the chicken philly or buffalo philly. They are hot and made to order. But, Lenny's gets 5 stars from me, which is rare for a chain. It's for one simple reason: the hot pepper relish. This stuff is GREAT and so SPICY, which I love. I get is on every sandwich here and you should too. This is really what sets Lenny's apart from chains like Subway and Jimmy John's. It is the only reason why I really love this place, other than the fresh cuts and bread. The only downside to this place is when they are slammed. They can, and will, forget or screw up your order if you call in or order online. Out of my dozens of experiences, this only happened once and they were making TONS of catering orders. TLDR; Lenny's is fantastic simply because of the hot pepper relish. read more
