Bad experience. The doctor is ok. But the front desk was not patient and friendly enough. I have been here three times totally. The third time, I want to get a frame glass. So I went to there and want to see doctors to adjust my prescription. I called two times, none of people told me that I required full test since the prescription already exceed 6 months. Then I went to there, the front seat who seat on the front of the door seemed inpatient to explain everything. Why they don't tell me in advance by phone . This place (LensCrafters at Newport Mall, NJ) is an absolute mad house. We went there to get our eyes checked and the doctor upon review said my daughter's eyes were really bad and needed glasses; as our daughter had never complained of visions problems we thought of getting a 2nd opinion, who advised us that not only does she not need glasses, but she had vision better than 20-20 - please stay away from the eye doctor here as she is absolutely incapable! On the store front, the sales people are just that - sales people who will bend backwards until the sale has been completed and then disappear from the face of earth when follow-up questions come up or delays on your order occur. They really need to get a grip on their business model - currently the place is a little short of working as a scam place and a low-level sales organization! read more

Horrible Customer Service .Years back I had a good experience and when I happened to be in NewPort mall decided to drop in and check if they accept my insurance .One of customer service members came to reception after she saw me waiting and brushed me off as fast as she could .Did not bother to look at Insurance card that I was holding but asked me which one is it is .I started to give her full name but on hearing AARP she said we give 30% discount and there is no vision benefit .I said I am not talking about being AARP member it is an insurance issued by United Healthcare . Then She said do I have a prescription - I said no I have an appointment to get a new prescription next week and just checking if they accept my insurance then I will come with all details and select a frame .Got the illogical reply bring ' prescription and then we will see ' . Don't go to this place! This place is trying their best to rip you off. The manager is rude and incompetent. The staffs will lie in front of your face, just to make more money. I had the worst experience with them. I got glasses from them less than 2 months ago. With regular use, the paint on the frame starts to peel off, which to me is a defect of the frame. What kind of frame starts to wear out within 2 months? However, when I went back to the store, instead of admitting the frame's defect, the store manager told me that it is my problem. It is my body chemical that is incompatible with the frame. It is so ridiculous that based on what she says, seems like I need to test my compatibility with the frame before I buy it. They refuse to exchange the frame which is defective. They told me that I need to use my protection plan and pay $50 dollars copay to get a new one. They told me that I am "lucky" because I purchased that protection plan. Otherwise, I will need to pay for it myself. When I tried to choose a new frame under the protection plan, they told me that I can't pick anything higher than $199. Therefore I picked one frame that is around that price. But when the staff starts to put that into system, things start to fall apart. The system shows they need to refund some of the money to me. It turns out that my current frame has a retail price of $285. The $199 price was due to my insurance discount. The store manager then came over, and lied directly to my face that the insurance discount is not applicable in this situation. I can not pick anything higher than $199. They surely know how to make more profit! I typically don't leave negative comments on anything. This is the first store that really make me too sick to keep quiet. I won't go to this store any longer for anything. This is a store that tries their best to rip you off. I would advise anyone else to just avoid this store. It is a terrible terrible store with a manager who only cares how to steal more money from your pocket. read more

It's too bad you can't award -0- stars. I went in for a simple frame adjustment on the night of February 27th. The frame adjustment went fine -except for the addition of heavy scratches on both of the very expensive Zeiss progressive lenses in the frame :(. I should note that before I handed them to an LC associate, the year old pair was pristine - I'm very careful with eyeglasses, and there was not the tinest of scratches on either lens. What really burns me is that when I mentioned that I was there for a frame adjustment, the associate (saleswoman) 'joked' "I recommend you replace these"; and as she was cleaning them, she specifically mentioned her dislike for people coming in with eyeglasses they hadn't purchased there, and then complaining if they were damaged (!) I thought that was a bit pointed, so mentioned that these eyeglasses were not from Lenscrafters (which I think she already could tell, since LC doesn't carry Zeiss) - but that my backup pair and prescription sunglasses were. I don't want to believe that these were deliberately damaged, but I know what they were like before I entered the store; I know what they looked like after, when I returned home that evening and checked them, and it does seem just a bit too neat to be coincidence. Needless to say, my last visit to this or any other LensCrafters. Hope the 40 years of lost business was worth it. read more

because i'm a clumsy fuck, i broke my glasses YET AGAIN a few weeks ago. after struggling through workdays with tape holding the frames together, i finally broke down and went to get an eye exam and new glasses. The exam was standard, took about 15 minutes and my script had not changed so i was good to go. The salesperson, Patriza, was SO NICE and even found the frames i mentioned i had seen on the website -- even though they weren't supposed to be on sale until the next day! 2 hours start to finish -- walked out with my new glasses for a decent price. After a disastrous experience at Cohen's Fashion Optical in the Newport Mall, where the incompetent "doctor" essentially asked me to estimate my own contact lens prescription, I decided to give this LenCrafters a try. I had stopped by a week before my eye test to browse the frame selection and check on the prices of frames. After my eye exam, the price of the frame and lenses miraculously went up by hundreds of dollars. This really amounts to bait and switch- where they quote a low price if you just walk-in and browse and then hike up the price after you have had the eye exam and become their captive. The staff is only friendly when selling you the glasses...When I went to pick them up and had a problem with my lenses I was told you need to get used to them...2 weeks later after not being able to see.. I returned and said something was wrong...The staff became rude, walked away from me when I tried to explain what was wrong with them... They told me I didn't give the prescription enough time. After a half hour of being ignored they agreed to fix them...When I returned an hour lated to pick them up, the Ophthalmologist who is quite rude pointed at me and told a sales girl "just give her the glasses" . I then asked if the frame could be tightened and the Ophthalmologist responded "your going to have to wait" I absolutely know I was treated that rude because they had to reimburse me a couple of hundred dollars and she just wanted me out of the store so the new customers beinv Lied to didnt over hear my conversation. ......I spent over 913 dollars in the store I believe that should have bought me a moments of someone's time without them being so nasty....Never Again read more

I went into the LensCrafters in the Newport Mall to get myself a new pair of glasses. I spent a good amount of time trying out different frames, after all I was there to buy!! After shortlisting 4 frames, I asked one of the girls there to price them out. She wouldve spent a max of 4-5 minutes to price them. I found a price difference of close to 100 bucks between this lenscrafters and the one on Broad St in NYC. When I asked her why the prices were different, she had no answer. I said I'd rather just buy them there if Im getting the same glasses for a 100 bucks less. She was annoyed and the whole experience just left a bad taste never to return again..In this economy its all about treating your customers right..Lenscrafters Newport its about time you train your people in that direction!! read more

I read all the bad reviews. I was a lil worried. A friend told me her experience was totally good, and I really needed to get my eyes checked, so I took a chance. Nice space! comfy, open environment. Staff were so nice, personable, attentive. Not even a long day side-eye. I filled out my info online to make the appt. which they pulled up when I gave my name. They tended to me quickly. The Dr. was smiley, introduced himself, neat, clean and kinda hawt, (I'm juss sayin). The tests were performed by the other staff, and everything explained. I remembered not to get the retina test due to the red tape with my Horizon BCBS insurance, so I declined and didn't get a hardcore press. Doctor was one of those guys who you could tell enjoyed his job, and would answer any question silly or otherwise. He was very thorough with the exam, didn't rush through it, and let me know each step. Once he wrote out my prescription and put in the dilating drops, he let me know how much time I'd have to look at frames before everything went blurry. I wanted to hi-five him. But instead I asked him about aging eyesight. The frames side was nice. I was sent to a nice greek guy, (cuz his name tag was something I couldn't hardly pronounce) who asked me what I was looking to wear. I truly thought picking frames would be the hardest thing ever, but he brought me some really cool 'Me' frames! He got me! and then took photos of the choices on an iPad in case I forgot what I looked like in them. We worked through price details, insurance, measurements, coupons, and only then we realized we had he same birthday! oh Joy! Yes, we hi-fived! I paid, and wandered the mall for 90 minutes, came back to a "Welcome Back!" and picked up my glasses. I look gorge! Glad I went. Best experience ever since I'd been going to the eye doctor. I don't know if they truly were a crappy place a while back, and staff changed, or maybe I just had a unique experience, but I love the place, and I'll recommend to folks at my job who have my same insurance. read more

I went in to get my sunglasses adjusted cuz the frames didn't fit. No one greeted me or anything. Finally a younger intern? helped me. She was patient and offered to tighten my regular glasses too. She did a good job. Everyone else was so blase. Services are way overpriced. Don't tell me it's quality. Because it's not. My sunglasses and glasses are from LC. They are just average. Decent size and selection. I've bought numbered prescription glasses from there earlier. After my recent LASEK, I was going to purchase my first non-numbered sunglasses. Staff is great and professional. Following scenario was encountered with Mrs. Salati (I think I have her name right), who was a thorough professional throughout. Liked an Oakley frame. Decided to buy it. Was talking regarding some discount, etc. Was able to get some % off due to my insurance. Only then, when she was wiping the lenses, I realized I'm getting the display model. YUCK! I don't want that! It's been tried by people, got oil and hand stains all over it, just so unhygenic. I requested a different, fresh model. (After all, any other purchase you buy you get a new model - watch, computer, car. ) She mentioned they don't have any other models in the back of the store. Just the diplay model. Requested her to void the transaction. She did not have an attitude or turn unprofessional. Remained calm throughout and explained my transaction has been voided. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a nasty policy by Lens Crafters, if they just give the diplay model. I had a great experience with Dr. Bharj. She performed a thorough eye exam, including taking a retinal photo which I've only ever had one other doctor perform. In addition, about two months later, my insurance ended up refunding a portion of the exam but sent the money to her office with the check addressed to her instead of me. She made a point to call and transfer the money to me. Others might have kept it and I never would have known. I will definitely be going back to her for future eye examinations. read more

These people will rob you. LITERALLY ROB you! I went to lenscrafters to get an eye exam done in fall of 2016, they prescribed two glasses one for distance and other for computer use and robbed $500. Yes $500. One of the glasses they built had my prescription changed between left and right eye and I was wondering all through out these two years why do I feel uncomfortable when wearing my distance glasses. I never used them. I got to know this recently went to get my eye and glasses checked. They will prescribe you glasses even if you don't need it. One thing I did like is the quality of the frame is good. But with such unethical practices I would look for other options. read more

Very Inconsistent place. They make it so obvious that all they care about is sales, sales and sales. Every time I go in here I cringe because I know they hate you if you aren't purchasing something new. When you purchase new glasses they BEG you to get the insurance for $30.00 but when it comes time to use it, they despise you. They look at you like "ugh what a waste of time". I won't lie there are a few people who are very pleasant, but the there are some who just don't care. I hate giving bad reviews but this place deserves it. I went in a couple Saturdays ago with my Prada Frame and Ralph Lauren Sunglasses I purchased here last year, they both got damaged so I decided to go back since thankfully one of the rep last year convinced me to get the insurance. It was the worst feeling when I walked in and requested a change, the girl completely changed her attitude towards me.. since I wasn't a new client buying new lenses. The manager overheard me and told me they were really busy today to come back another time since they were backed up. I found that completely rude, I bet you if I were a brand new customer It would have been a whole new story. I bought two pairs of costly glasses and lenses a while back at your location in Newport Mall, Jersey City, New Jersey. The salesperson talked me into purchasing the "scratch resistant" coating to protect the lenses. After two years, the scratch-resistant coating on both lenses started to wear away and now I am left with permanent damage to both sets of lenses. When I brought the glasses back to the store and explained this issue, the employees told me, "Oh yeah, that tends to happen with the coating, that's why we don't offer it anymore. We can't do anything for you." Needless to say, I've never been back to that location nor any other LensCrafters location. Contacted corporate, and they said that they cannot help me now because my glasses are several years old now. Avoid LensCrafters, they are grossly overpriced for the products and services they provide (and do not provide). Other online eyeglass retailers offer much better deals and customer service. read more

Went for my annual eye exam, I had made the appointment months in advance. They did everything except eye dilation (which is probably the most important part of the exam). They said I'd have to make another appointment for the dilation but they charged me for it as part of my exam. Who does that?? When I asked why I couldn't just get the service done right there and then, they told me everything was booked up for the day. But, like I said, I made my appointment months in advance...so being "booked up" makes zero sense. Now I've been trying to get another appointment (huge inconvenience) for the dilation but they don't have any early morning weekday hours and claim to have no weekend dates available yet. Huh? They claimed to have put me on a list and will let me know when a weekend date opens up. I doubt they will. They charged me for a service I'll probably never receive. Ridiculous. read more

Its.been a month and I'm still waiting for my new set of glasses. I purchased glasses along with the additional insurance, my lenses somehow has a annoying scratch that affects my focus. I cashed in on my replacement pair through the insurance as i am entitled since I purchased the additional insurance coverage when I purchased my over $700 glasses. On July 28th, I took the time to stop in store, speak with a sales associate, pay the additional money that was due and my original date to pick my new pair of glasses was August 3rd, the day before my birthday, i felt all kinds of excited. The 3rd arrived i received a missed call informing me my glasses came in with a defect, new pair will be in August 12th, the 12 came i missed a call, i immediately thought my glasses were ready and mistakenly showed up at the store without checking the voicemail. Oh no, i was told they came in with the wrong prescription, now they gave no date but said i'd receive a text. I have never heard anything since, no phone call explaining, no type of encouragement, i feel Lens Crafters, Jersey City, NJ, Newport Mall location has ghosted me, and they're trying to rip me off. Terrible! I wish I could give this place zero stars; or maybe it's just the person I dealt with. I was "helped" by Ariana Almonte whom promised to give me everything under the sun for a great price. I thought, WOW this sale is amazing! Considering I requested the coating, thinning of lens, transition, etc. Once I picked up my new glasses, I visited a specialist who confirmed that I did not have even ONE of the many things Ariana promised to add onto my lenses. Turns out, she did not give me a good price or whatever sale was going on, I just paid exactly for what I got ... NOTHING! I prefer to pay double or triple the amount elsewhere, before coming here! NEVER AGAIN! She either needs to be retrained or moved from sales since she obviously has no idea what she's doing or is just a scam artist. read more
